Great info Craig!! I bought these pipes because of you! On Saturday I put the same Sharkroads on my 22 Voyager. The baffles do come wrapped and there is an O2 sensor plug now. So to eliminate 90% of the decel popping I blocked the Pair Valve inlet inside the R/H air cleaner. The hole is at 11 o'clock in the housing. A guy from New Zealand told me about this.....Absolutely works great.
Bam, REALLY great info about the PAIR valve. Glad your happy with your Sharkroad mufflers. I just bought another Voyager so I'm back in the fold myself.
Funny you should say that Steve. When I was recording the vehicle obviously there is time between hearing the difference. After starting up the bike with the wrapped baffles I would have guessed it didnt sound any different. However, after doing the editing and video production I was able to hear a little difference. Sharkroad is working on a smaller diameter baffle that should quiet the bike even more and I may try it. I do some long days on the bike (sometimes upwards of 600 miles) and over the course of say 10 hours on the bike I might want it quieter.
Sharkroad mufflers also have many models that fit Yamaha cruisers as well. I installed them on my 07 Yamaha Royal Star tour deluxe. I bought megaphones and put them on last year. I've been very happy with the and when I did it I decided to leave the baffles in. They are plenty loud with the baffles. Quality is good.
I was waiting to get pipes until after I got the ecu tuned. But this vid convinced me that the popping isn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Bike sounds 100 percent better. Thanks for the info and the demo
Your welcome....I think you will be pleased with the product....Any issues let me know as I have Sharkroads ear and can freely communicate with their leadership....No, I dont work for them or get commission.
The only difference between the wrapped and raw baffle that I could notice was that it removes the beating on the side of an empty steel drum echo. The sound quality is tighter and doesn't ring as much while maintaining the deep throaty character. I think that the packing also diminished the extent of the deceleration popping as well. I like the sound of the single wrap it has a great tone and if you didn't know what the bike was it could easily be mistaken for a Twin-Cam under acceleration and a Freedom Twin when idling. For the price-point I do not think you could beat them; the true test will be how they hold up over the long-term. Thanks for sharing; keep the shiny side up and enjoy.
They sound great not a noticeable difference between the wrapped and not wrapped. Great video I am picking up a voyager if I change exhaust it will be Sharkroad.
They sound good. I would prefer a baffle because it gives some back pressure. Straight pipes u loose power. 2 into one produces the best power. But some like the dual pipe sound and looks.
I put Vance & Hines on my Kawasaki 1700. They were too loud! So I made a perforated baffle that blocks most of the tube in the middle. Put a 1/4 hole through center. Most of the exhaust has to go through muffler internals. Has a nice sound now.
Great video. I liked the wrapped baffle sound the most, it seemed to have a little deeper of a sound. I have a 2018 Vaquero 1700 with Cobra slip-ons and the sound was really good and after I had the ecu ivanized the sound of the exhaust changed to a little higher pitch sound, not bad, just different. P.S. Ivanizing your ecu is worth every penny. From what I have read in the comments you have being ivanized and I'm wondering, did you notice a sound difference and have you thought about doing a video to compare. I liked the comment on how people make it look so easy to do a youtube video, I did one for my bike and can see that I have to learn how to hold a camera, but I posted it anyways. Ride safe, enjoy.

Bike sounds awesome. My little brother is waiting for slip ons. Do you have a link to what you used? And was it easy to pull the baffles and wrap them?

Craig.. three questions.. do you still have the Shark Roads installed. are they baffled from the company now? Do you have the stock sound system and Can you hear your radio with the upgraded pipes
AZDD, I dont have the Vaquero any longer. About to pick up a BMW K1600GTL. I felt the best setup was the Sharkroads with the supplied baffles wrapped with fiberglass matting to sound the best coupled with the Ivan ECU flash. ANY aftermarket muffler will exhibit popping on deceleration due to the fresh air induction emission system. The Ivan tune resolves that and a host of other Kawasaki issues....I never listened to the on-board radio as I always use my Cardo Packtalk JBL headset when riding and listening to music. At speed and when on the gas I imagine the stock radio speakers in the fairing will be ineffective. Hope this helped.
Basically the baffle is a steel tube with perforations on it. to quiet or mellow the sound you can take a fiberglass matting material and wrap the baffle and it is quite effective in mellowing the sound.
Hey Craig, I am about to order a set from their website. My question is, when i messaged them they say that they wrap all their baffles now (sounded like they maybe did not before. Are these pipes something you do again if you had another Kawi? anything I should watch out for? do I need to order anything else? Any discoloring on your pipes (blue)? Did you end up get ivanized and if so, was that worth is as well? Thanks for the video, well done...
Chris, yes all the Kawasaki mufflers from sharkroad come wrapped now. I think your gonna really like the sound. Be mindful that regardless of the aftermarket slip on you purchase you will want to have the Ivan Tune done to your ECU. Not only does the Ivan tune resolve so many fueling issues, the cooling fans turn on sooner than stock to help keep the bike cooler and best of all the Kawasaki fresh air induction is disabled so no popping/backfiring on deceleration.
?? Do you know the difference between the slotted bad ass mirror (20c)and chiseled mirror (21) I’m wondering if is just the end tip or they sound different . Your comment is appreciated
Yes, at first I though yeah hide plate but then as the videos progressed it became obvious that I couldnt hide plate when doing my "ride-bys" so I finally said why bother? Thanks for your complements!
Brian, If you want to add Fiberglass Matting to your existing muffle baffles you wrap the baffle with the matting and you can secure to baffle with some metal HVAC tape or thin Bailing wire. if you buy Sharkroad quiet baffles they come ready to go with fiberglass and wire.
The wrapped sound was certainly better. The 1700s are way too quiet and 'tame' for my taste with the factory setup and tune. I have a VN2000 from 2006, just had it for a year and it has Cobras on it -and L O V E it. If I can get a 1700 to sound like the 2000, I will run to the dealer and get a 2023. :)
I had a 2006 VN2000 Limited and loved it.....One of the bikes I wish I never parted with. The VN1700's are nice too once you get the ECU Tuned by Ivan and go with slip-ons.
If you don't want to Ivanize your ECU, the next thing you can do is block off your pair valve. What's happening is fresh air is being introduced into the exhaust port to burn and unspent fuel. This is an emissions reduction approach many motorcycle companies employ. Gooogle "Marbelizing" your Kawasaki 1700 and you'll find many conversations on this.
@Craig Goldstein OK, thanks Craig. I'm set on buying the sharkroad pipes but it'll be a couple months before I can get the ECU flashed. Thanks for responding.
Randy, yes the decell popping will occur with any aftermarket muffler and YES the Ivan tune resolves this and fixes a host of other issues with the OEM tune.
It’s a sad and disappointing day for myself, I received my sharkroad exhausted for my vaquero expecting to get the same , As you show on RUclips video , but I got different tip end and the sound is much quitter then your , my exhausted is total different. Hi Andrew, I just looked at Kawasaki OEM part numbers to compare the Nomad exhaust PNs with Vaquero PNs....The exhausts are the same therefore the Sharkroad Vaquero/Voyager Mufflers will fit your Nomad as well. Visit sharkroad.com/products/kawasak-vaqueroi-mufflers and be sure to use Promo code SHARK10 for 10% off. These are slip-ons so ordinary hand tools will suffice and if you have basic mechanical skills shouldn't take more than an hour to install both sides.
I ordered some for my voyager. They haven’t shown as shipped yet, and multiple attempts to contact sharkroad have gone unanswered. Did I just flush $449 down the toilet?
James, I wont argue your point because I agree in that the stock exhaust does sound good however thousands of Vaquero/Voyager guys choose to switch out the mufflers for more sound and presence so everyone has a different interpretation of what sounds best.
Great info Craig!! I bought these pipes because of you! On Saturday I put the same Sharkroads on my 22 Voyager. The baffles do come wrapped and there is an O2 sensor plug now. I have a 2011 1700 Nomad. Just put them on in the Fall. Pops pretty badly upon deceleration. Help! (other than tuning?)
@@craiggoldstein2461 Thanks!
Hard to tell but are you feathering the throttle to keep the pipes from popping?
Not really trying one way or another......But the popping stopped after the Ivan ECU tune.
@Craig Goldstein OK, thanks Craig. I'm set on buying the sharkroad pipes but it'll be a couple months before I can get the ECU flashed. Thanks for responding.
@@jackal3911 If you get the pipes and dont want to Ivan right away, block off the Pair system with a marble or bolt and it'll stop the decel popping.
Ok. I'll give that a try. Thanks for your time. You've been a big help.
Craig, I'm having trouble getting the crossover pipe to seal properly in the left muffler. Did you have any issues or do you have any suggestions?
I bought these pipes for my 2015 Vaquero but the deceleration popping is driving me crazy. Did you get your ecm Ivanized and if so did it help. Thanks
Randy, yes the decell popping will occur with any aftermarket muffler and YES the Ivan tune resolves this and fixes a host of other issues with the OEM tune.
@@craiggoldstein2461 great thank you very much
It’s a sad and disappointing day for myself, I received my sharkroad exhausted for my vaquero expecting to get the same , As you show on RUclips video , but I got different tip end and the sound is much quitter then your , my exhausted is total different.
The company is going to replace the Tips anyway.
I think my exhausted has the baffles wrapped but the sounds is quite 😞
If you want more sound simply pull the baffles and remove the wrapping and re-install the baffle.
Just wondering why you are covering your plate when you can already see the number in another part of the video.
Al, Yes things were out of sequence when I collected footage and at some point I decided, why bother, people will capture my plate anyways.
@@craiggoldstein2461 ahh ok
@@craiggoldstein2461 covering plates doesn't matter. Running license plates is restricted at the state and federal level. Any PC running plates can be tracked and that's if someone has the access. Basically, covering plates is false security...lol
so does the baffle come wrapped or ya gotta do it yourself
They come wrapped on all the new Sharkroad mufflers. Been that way for almost the last year.
@@craiggoldstein2461 so then do they sell ya the bigger baffles then i would think if ya took the wrap off the stock baffles would be perfect
@@mikestowe6136 When you buy the Kawasaki Sharkroad mufflers you get the standard Baffle that comes fiberglass wrapped. If you want it louder remove baffle to remove wrap. If you want to quieter than standard they offer a "Quiet baffle" This quiet baffle is smaller in diameter and also comes wrapped. Hope this helps.
@@craiggoldstein2461 ok ya i didnt know which one was the one that came with it because you had 2 different size baffles in the video so my guess it comes with the larger diameter one thabks
@@mikestowe6136 Welcome!
What was the part number on your pipes?
I have a 2011 Nomad 1700. Was wondering what fits my ride also the part numbers if you have them? Or a link to their site would be awesome. So these are a simple slip on system is my understanding.. All help is appreciated..cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
@@craiggoldstein2461 Thank you for your help!! Much appreciated 👍
👍
I ordered some for my voyager. They haven’t shown as shipped yet, and multiple attempts to contact sharkroad have gone unanswered. Did I just flush $449 down the toilet?
No your good my friend. Sharkroad and much if China is on Holiday this week. Promise you will be ok.
No matting
Oh hell yeah....I can do these....sounds better thN the freedom pipes
Get 10% off while they last buddy! Promo Code: SHARK10 Not a bad deal for $405 to your door!
Stock sounds better.
James, I wont argue your point because I agree in that the stock exhaust does sound good however thousands of Vaquero/Voyager guys choose to switch out the mufflers for more sound and presence so everyone has a different interpretation of what sounds best.
Can not find phone number
Not sure if you know this but your tips are upside down.
All in the look your going for. Can be installed four different ways on Sharkroads.
SO NOT REALY A KAWAZAKI
Sounds GAF.
