      Do you think that chisel is made of carbon steel? Home Depot and
      Lowe’s hardly carry anything but beveled chisels. Although I have a few small power tools, I prefer to learn hand made. I must learn how to sharpen my chisels and planes. Thankfully plenty of vids on RUclips.

      I wouldn't be so sure of that. A huge part of the preparation for joint making is getting prefectly accurate and identical stock. I have never seen this chap pick up a plane, and as this is filmed in a location with other woodworkers occasionally in the background, I would be amazed if the stock wasn't prepared using a planer thicknesser. Believe it or not, that's well over half the work involved in joint making.

  • @salimufari
    @salimufari Год назад +7

    The reason no one uses this joint at least as you've made it is because you have taken a fairly strong corner miter & made all the connecting parts about 1 cm thick. The spine on the corner brace & the remaining faces of the long angles are so thin they won't take much deflection before splitting.
    A more simple & stronger way to do this is a kurf cut on the miter's outside corner & add a 5 - 10 mm spline 90* to the corner miter. This glued in spline joint has been tested to be the strongest corner joint in most uses.

      Yeah, those are just for showing off, hoping for some youtube dollars. This joint is weak in multiple way: corner locking, beam and column weakness under load because too much material removed.
