This is a piece of TF2 history right here, my friend. Pretty much everyone, from old timers to new players, know about this video. Sadly the creator passed away not so long after uploading it, but the community loved his creations so much that they re-animated the whole thing almost ten years later.

This is actually made from Garry's Mod, not really a software definitive to filmmaking but Kitty sure as heck made it one.
Yep! And due to how the program works, a lot of the animation done in it (especially facial expressions) is effectively stop-motion animation with ragdolls.
Kitty wasn’t the only one, but he was one of the best.

Spycrabs were the result of an unintended glitch back in 2008 and are still present to this day. You do the spycrab by holding the disguise kit (while undisguised), crouching and looking up into the sky. You can move while doing this and its hilarious

A special game mode on tf2 called TF2Ware (like WarioWare) actual features something similar to Mario cart. Better yet, there’s some fun, official cart mini games for tf2 during the Halloween season.
You can almost do that with the Victory Lap taunt haha

There is also a tf2kart special game mode that was out around the time of the Love and War update. They had spells as items and it was more chaotic than Mario Kart. I don't know if those are still up today.
You have to learn the difference between SFM animation and GMOD animation. SFM often has specialized lighting and smooth animation, camera work is also common.
Gmod on the otherhand usually has: Distorted models (Faces going insane). ragdoll physics. choppy animation. and still cameras. Sometimes Gmod can be professionally done (see Stblackst) and sometimes SFM can be choppy or just insane, but as time goes on, you can tell the difference.
GMOD = Garry's Mod, for those who don't know.

You'll be pleased to know team fortress 2 does have a kart minigame, during halloween. Surprise! This video was made in gmod, not SFM. That's what people used in the old days. When you watch a bunch of both you will start to recognize the difference, they both have a distinct sort of character. Gmod videos tend to have pretty jerky animation because the creator has to pose ragdolls within the game. I assume its pretty time consuming. Nevertheless, for many of us, these videos are near and dear to our hearts and the odd style of animation is seen as pretty charming.
People still use Garry's Mod for animations.
@@Techhunter_Talon Yes. What I wanted to express was that source filmmaker had not been released at the time this video was made. In other words, gmod was still the tool of choice for these community animations, and just about any tf2 related animation you could find aside from those produced by valve themselves would've been made with it. SFM would be released later that year.

9:13 That was literally the only way to get characters to 'talk' when doing stop motion in Garry's Mod. You just go crazy with face flexes and call it a day... and it all had a certain charm that remains to this day.

The Heavy, Spy, and Pyro were also playable characters in Sonic Team Racing, a Mario Kart inspired game.
Actually, Heavy, Spy, And pyro were in Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed; not in TSR. TSR is exclusively sonic characters.

Well, I have some good news for you
So fun facts: 1. This is an actual and ancient custom map in TF2 literally called Mario Kart or mario_kart. It's an original design, and full of secrets. There were cars and kart props in it that would move in an already established looping path when people stood in them. 2. Despite that, there actually ARE karts in TF2, but for TF2, they are bumper karts. Come a month, you'll see plenty of this on a few maps. Using these established things in the game though, folks had actually gone above and beyond and made Mario Kart in TF2 using the bumper karts, even making and building Mario Kart stages up from scratch.

Spycrab is what happens when a spy, undisguised, crouches, pulls out his disguise kit, and looks up. Movements look ridiculous and distorted. Rather than fix the bug, they embraced it. Randomly taunting with the kit out will do a different animation, and spycrab is somewhat canonical. There’s even a plushie available of one for purchase, which also gets you an in game version of it too
Also the Zelda moon was only Majora’s Mask. Which is a very solid entry in the franchise. You have to repeat the same three days, but you start learning everyone’s schedules, details of their lives, how to progress the tale. And masks. Masks are your main permanent progression.

10:12 actually there is a taunt that, when activated, makes your character jump into the bumper car, that appears out of nowhere
A spy crab is a meme that popped up pretty early on TF2’s life. There was a visual glitch with the spy’s model if you crouched and looked up with your disguise kit equipped where it looked like he was making a crab pose. Many friendly players use it, but it can also be used to rub salt in the wound as a taunt.
Fun fact: this is a custom server you could play on tf2, it is probably the most iconic tf2 custom maps and it is ancient. It had so much to do and to explore. Practically everyday you'd find something new in that map. Plenty of veteren the players have great memories on this map
Man I miss kitty0706… Team Fabulous 2 was what really kick-started gmod animation, kitty0706’s videos (not just Team Fabulous 2) will always be loved by those who watched them back in their day and those who will watch them in the years to come…

something i recommend you to react “Mickey never came back” and the part 2 is “Mickey’s descent into madness” (yes, i going to say it again XD)
The credits song always makes me tear up in memories of when this came out, it solidified my love for the game.
The remade version with all the different animators coming together as a tribute to kitty goes to show what a strong bond this community actually has.
This is also the reason why the game is still live and actually now more well than ever 15 years after its release.

Spy crab is the term for whenever a player crouches down, looks up at the sky while equipping the sapper.
Spycrabs are subclasses of the Spy. A player can position themselves as a Spy to look like a crab, hence the name Spycrab. They are so popular that Valve added a Spycrab plushie into TF2

As a side note: Spy crabs are just spies holding their spytrons over their heads. It's an unwritten rule that you're not supposed to kill a spycrab since they can't attack like that.
This video was made in garry's mod, and such a long time ago that many modern tools made specifically to make animating in gmod much easier did not exist. Most of this was *probably* done simply using the default "physgun" tool to pose the characters for every frame of animation. A difficult and time consuming task which maybe no one at the time other than Kitty had truly mastered, let alone the fantastic editing that was also very ahead of the curve. He truly set the standard and has acted as inspiration to many for almost a decade.

You should react to a few of Corridor's stuff. A lot of their early and mid stuff had tactical "spoofs/concepts" you might enjoy, like the Splinter Cell: Merc v. Spies. Otherwise, this was such a trip down memory lane for me during high school. Who needed weed to kill brain cells when you could just watch Team Fabulous 2 every other week.
Its touching we all still goes back to Colin's great, memorable creations to this day. Not just the TF2 and Gmod Machinima communities, but possibly the entirety of the gaming community. We all miss him, but he has his youtuber friends, and many other gmod/sfm animators who were inspired by his works to continue the comedic entertainment he pioneered.
The Spycrab is based on an old bug for spy where if you hold the disguise kit out, look up, and crouch, spy will hold his arms out above his head. It began as a meme basically back in 2008, it's been a thing ever since, and Valve embraced it to the point of adding a rare chance for taunting with the kit to do a little spycrab dance

It’s a spy who realized that while holding the disguise kit if he were to crouch while looking up to everyone else it looks like the spy is a crab… and since they are stuck on the disguise kit menu they can’t attack so their technically a friendly but friendly spy’s aren’t common

Let me elaborate, sfm got created when valve was making the meet the team videos. It was only a tool available to valve, no one else. Then on june 27 of 2012 it got released into the public.

IIRC, TF2 was the origin of lootcrate/gatcha, and the trading of rare items was absolutely wild. Bills and buds were (almost) stable NFTs, and single items could go for $10k. I personally traded up from items to hats to games - full release games

this is animated in gmod, a sandbox source game that started as a mod for half life 2. while some things are easy to animate (physics stuff for example), it can also be quite a pain since the game wasnt made with animating in mind. other gmod animations by kitty0706 include the moments with heavy series, the elliot goes to scool series and a couple other one off videos. i especially remember the moments with heavy videos fondly from my childhood. also, if you havent played gmod before i highly recommend checking it out. it is imo the greatest sandbox game out there, with endless potential due to the workshop addons and the old source engine charm. it especially good to play with other people
as a note, I'm pretty sure this is way before Source Filmmaker was available to the public. This was all done in GMod.
Speaking of the K rations i read in a history book/magazine that at times, somdiers had to make their K ration last for several weeks which didn't exactly help with their opinion of it. Somewhere else in the same book/magazine, it said that at one point when a group of soldiers saw ome of the things, several of them threw up.

There IS actually a communiity made TF2 car mode, youd have to look inm the server browser to find an active server with it though. It uses the bumper cars from one of the Halloween maps.

Before there was SFM, there was Garry's Mod(Gmod). Gmod was an open source physics sandbox game that allowed various features of play, including filmmaking. Animating in Gmod required a steady hand and a lot of patience.
10:11 there may not be a tf2 cart, but 3 tf2 characters did appear in a sonic racers game. Spy, pyro and heavy appeared in "Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed" as "team fortress" yeah 3 characters in one playable character

Dude, they just re-released Mario 64 this year. And five years ago there was a huge meme about the Mario 64 "A Button Challenge" (beat the game without jumping). It isn't a lost classic, we're still playing it
When a Spy holds his cigarette case/disguise kit in his hands, crouches and looks straight up, the player model glitches out a bit, resulting in a rather silly sight. This was affectionately called "Spycrab" by players and it's often considered a "dick move" to kill players that are being Spycrabs because 9/10 times, they're not hurting anyone.
Valve never fixed this glitch and has in fact made a unique taunt for the disguise kit where the Spy crouches down and claps his hands like a crab's pincers.
