29:01 Bruce blaming himself makes more sense than some post Death In the Family comics where the writers had him blame Jason for his own death saying he supposedly didn't listen to him and rushed in when actually Jason's biological mother sold him out to Joker to save herself.

3 funfacts about Jason's character and tenure as Robin from beginning middle and end.
    1. Jason's debut aligns with Killer Croc's who was the original killer of his parents iirc.
    2. Something that gets revisioned alot nowadays when Jason being robin is written nowadays is making him "the hyperviolent Robin". Precrisis and postcrisis this wasn't the case. Jason's most dubious moments as robin were outliers in his career. (A highlight of which is in the iconic Superman story The Man Who Has Everything. Definitely recommend reading. It has a great animated adaptation in the show Justice League Unlimited but Jason isn't present it.
    3. Pretty much every adaptation of Death of The Family skips over or changes the events that led Jason into the situation. The lead up being him searching for his biological mother when he realizes the woman he grew up with was his stepmother. The crowbar scene hits way harder with his mother standing in the background smoking as she reluctantly accepts she sold her son out so the Joker wouldn't ruin the new life she had. And it's all the sadder that Jason's last moments was working through the pain trying every possible way to still save his mom from getting the door open, to trying to defuse the bomb only to be too bad of a condition to disarm it and ultimately using his bidy as a shield to protect her only for her to live long enough to tell Bruce what a hero he was before dying too.

    • @Tuning3434
      @Tuning3434 6 месяцев назад

John did a good job, really making him very menacing. But Mark is such a high benchmark. His maniac cackling is of the charts and unlike this Joker, BTAS Joker would never allow himself to ever not be the center of attention. The chips-eating - murder-the-next-second is something this John Joker can do, but Mark's Joker would never be written in this situation in the first place: he would demand the attention, not be able to subdue himself to strike at an opportune moment like this Joker did.
I kinda like BTAS Joker more, because he's almost as much fighting himself as Batman, and that just adds to his deranged side, although I appreciate it would probably not work as well if comics.

Yeah Comics canon can be a little difficult to explain thanks to the many DC Reboots. I'm pretty sure most of the comics you've read take place within the Post Crisis era of DC, 1986 to 2011 by far their most well known and beloved universe, combining the Multiverse into a single Earth so that many of DC's characters could co-exist together within the same history. Here the Justice Society of America (Originally from Earth-2) was re-written into the history of this new Earth, forming during WW2 and later inspiring the future generation of Superhero's such as The Flash, Batman, Superman, etc. You would've seen this in Batman: Hush whenever Bruce visited Metropolis and saw Alan Scott's Green Lantern flying overhead a member of the Justice Society of America and one of DC's Golden Age characters.
DC then rebooted in 2011 giving birth to the New 52 a reality that did not feature The Justice Society of America or the Golden Age DC's hero's we know and love. Here Superman lost his parents when he was just 18 and grew up to become a more moody, emotional and according to some people a jackass Superman. Also depicted with a modernized suit that lacked the trunks, features more lines on the suit and a high collar. A more dark and moody universe that kind of had the same tone throughout, very much in the vein of the DCEU films, overly dark and brutal and lacked the charm of the Post Crisis stories like All-Star Superman. Grant Morrisons stuff was great though and brought some light to these characters.
DC then rebooted with Rebirth in 2015 moving closer to the classic depictions of it's characters, their origins etc. And recently brought back the Justice Society of America with alot of the Post Crisis stories like Superman: Secret Origin becoming canonical again. We've gotten to the point where "Everything" is canon according to DC. An ever changing universe, a metaverse.

When you manage to loop back around to comedies, you might consider throwing Harlem Nights on the list. It's a classic that's set during Prohibition and has a fairly all-star cast (Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy, Red Foxx, Della Reese, Arsenio Hall, etc).

I fall in love with Batman during my viewing of 2 show that play in my youth, the batman animated series and the Justice League. If you never had the chance I highly recommand. Also for a more modern take you have the show Young Justice that follow Robin (Dick Grayson) and others sidekick sent in mission by Batman, really great. Or if you want to continue in the animated movies I highly recommand Batman Year One.

This is a great one! You need to check out Mask of the Phantasm! As good as a lot of these movies are, that one is still the best in my opinion. Bruce Greenwood does a good Batman. My most favorite role he played was in a show called Nowhere Man. It only lasted one season, but it was great! Also, the guy voicing REd Hood, played Dean Winchester in the show Supernatural, and he also does the voice of Batman in The Long Halloween 2 part movie. Amazo was first introduced in the Justice League Animated series (in terms of on screen portrayal), which I would also recommend watching. There are very few DC Animated movies that aren't amazing. You should eventually watch them all. But Mask of the Phantasm is where it started, which takes place between season 1 and 2 of Batman The Animated series.

What I like about this movie is that it understands that Batman isn't a sane and well-adjusted person. A conclusion you'd think would be simple from just looking at him but a lot of fanboys seem shocked by it. That no-kill rule is a part of his psychosis, it keeps him from being able to make a necessary kill for the betterment of the world, because he knows if he does it once, he wouldn't be able to stop himself from doing it more often to those that might not deserve it. It's a hard line he keeps to, no matter how many more people are out in danger or die because he keeps to it. He knows he's not well enough mentally to make that call.

You're starting off with this as your first dip into animated Batman stuff? Wow, you're starting off strong with the good stuff! Also, after this they released an interactive DVD called "Death in the Family" which starts off as the same story, but you could choose from different options so that the story branches off into different possibilities. Also-also, the way Jason Todd came back in the comics was so convolutedly stupid that the way they brought him back here was a much more elegant, simpler solution.

    1. Dick Grayson
    2. Jason Todd
    3. Tim Drake
    4. Stephanie Brown
    5. Damian Wayne
People tend to ignore Stephanie because she had the shortest run, and DC editorial was also incredibly sexist towards her, but I would argue she has the most interesting run as Robin.

Yes, you picked two GREAT ones in “Under the Red Hood” and “Mask of the Phantasm,” for sure; and your reaction was lots of fun!
Could I suggest 3 others for you? Two animated, and one live action-but only about a half hour long on the live-action one:
    1. “Batman: Year One”; and
    2. “The Dark Knight Returns”
These are the two animated ones, adapted from two truly great graphic novels.
    And,
    3. “Batman: Dying Is Easy” by Bat In the Sun Productions; they’re not a big Hollywood studio, but a LOT of Hollywood talent is involved, including actors, as you’ll see. And Kevin Porter is The best live-action Batman ever for my money. WELL worth the watch!
