Nathan catches up with the legendary Alex Theakston from Source Distribution to discuss the lesser know features of the Arturia MiniBrute Monophonic Analogue Synthesizer. In this video we learn how to actually use the unit but also find out how some of the sounds interact with one another and how you can use the analog synth live.
Alex shows us the filters and wave shapes and how to manipulate them and provides a tutorial on how to hook up the DrumBrute for live use. We also get to see how well the distortion effect works when used alongside the synth and drum machine.
The monophonic Arturia MiniBrute synth is an extremely portable analog synthesizer designed for both the professional level synthesizer users as well as complete beginners. Loaded with the legendary Steiner-Parker multimode filter, a multi-wave Oscillator and Sub Oscillator, MiniBrute is ideal for those who want to be able to record huge bass lines, sweet leads and add an entirely new dimension to their sound.
Thanks to the fact the MiniBrute utilises a 100% analogue audio signal path as well as a VCO wave mixer, you get a vintage style sound with modern reliability and usability. The MiniBrute also includes coveted analogue innovations such as the Metalizer, Ultrasaw, and the Brute Factor Distortion, to ensure you’ve got a world of sounds at your fingertips!
MIDI, CV and USB connectivity ensure you can fit this lush synthesizer into your workflow quickly and easily.

I agree 100% - the Minibrute provides real insight to what synthesis is and i wish i'd purchased one before buying my other synths as i'd have had much better understanding of how to make proper use of them. That said, once you've tried the Minibrute the appeal of non-analogue synths rapidly diminishes - it really is that good.

is it possible to use this to create sounds from genres like synthwave, techno, progressive house, trance, deep house, big rooom?

@@onlytiesto1 It can play only one note at a time, so no chords. Aside from that, yeah you can create sounds to fit those genres

can you re-create a patch by listening to a 10 second clip of some notes from an intro?

Sure if you have a good ear. I have recreated the PAC Man sound as close as I can get it. Using the LFO as a second wave you can set it it as an out of tune source. You over lay the same crunching sound with a little out of tune.
