Great. One thing to note, Evangelicals did not believe that they could bring about the second coming of Jesus, but rather they preached the imminent return of Jesus as an incentive for people to be spiritually prepared.

What seems to have been going on in these Camp Meetings would be a pseudo-apostolic situation of sorts; the preeching was akin to what the Lord's Apostles would do, but their faiths were far more rooted in feelings than in a grasp of reality as it turns out.
In the 1960 s come to Christ with fear was preached didn't hear about love but the hymns had love.

The essence was real encounters with a very real God that caused people to shake have trances go into ecstasies and visions.
Rational approach to religion is very good, emotional approaches to religion, on the other hand, open up one to the devil's influence; and that never ever ends well. And if you want to grasp history, you really do have to include religious teachings in history to grasp it correctly.
I feel like the big problem in American culture is the lack of education about religious figures and events. We literally don't use the original Gregorian calendar labels anymore because it's simply made by religious people and don't like the idea of the timeline being centered around the death of Christ.
@@jllemin4 Not so much that at all, but you're largely very spot on with the claim of pathetic education... that's one major reason why homeschooling is taking off.
I’m a believer, but I realize that these great awakenings created so many false denominations within Christianity that we see today :(. Christ and salvation is no longer shared as a free gift for all who believe in most churches.

Best thing Mr. Beecher did was that his daughter was a devoted Abolitionist; and that's saying something.
The essence was the Holy Spirit moved and changed the whole United States back to God those were fits induced by their own willpower that was the Holy Spirit moving so powerfully on the people they shook when entrances ecstasies and visions it was real encounters with a real God.

That came out of the Jesus movement of the late 60’s early 70’s .
On the general topic at hand: Calvinism isn't even biblical; the book of Revelation in the bible does state clearly that we are judged solely on what we do, and it is what we do or refuse to do that will determine if we can enter Heaven, not some decision on God's part; that's how the puritan beliefs weren't even biblical to begin with... and that's pretty darn strong criticism of their beliefs.
As for taking religious services seriously; I'm with them on that if nothing else, but not at all on their critical belief in predestination, for no form of predestination is biblically acceptable, as they all blatantly contradict the last book of the bible.
A tad to the side, but vital for grasping the topic? Absolutely yes!

Calvinists have never rejected the idea that people are suppose to do good works. That's called hyper-calvinism. Predestination doesn't remove human responsibility before God-Calvin stressed this (which was, likewise, stressed by Augustine, Paul, and Jesus), as well as most Calvinists since. Also, the intellectual/education requirements of, say, the Presbyterian Church (a Reformed, Calvinist institution), were only mandatory for being a preacher, not for conversion. Lastly, it's millennialism...like millennial (i.e my generation) and ism (i.e. western denotation for some classification/group whether real or otherwise).
