    The biggest tip is making sure your pot is not too big.
    More space doesn’t mean a healthier plant, it means more issues with it. As always, keep practicing those skills.
    Your plant babies will be happy to get fresh soil.

      Please HELP! I need to know how to go from cuttings that have made roots in the water, to potted plants. I have monstera, pathos, and a couple mystery cuttings that have all developed roots in the water, but it feels wrong to put them in 3” nursery pots OR in bigger normal pots. What do I do?! Just stick one rooted vine in each pot? 😩🤷🏻‍♀️

      I have a plant that split in two one day from its own weight so now i have two plants. Now all the babies are coming out of one stalk but that one stalk is attached to a second stalk that is now growing anything. I am súper unsure how to repot this plant. I’m afraid of hurting her!

      Me too!! I feel like I’m killing them. It’s so so strange! I’m not a vegetarian or anything like this but when you have literally created “life” and it’s grown into something pretty just from a little seed I genuinely find it amazing.
      (Yeah I know I’m an absolute knuckle dragger but I’m good at other things: sadly I’m not good at growing things.
      Generally if I look at a plant it wil die 😅)
      Anyway I’ve managed to cultivate 2 plants and they looked great up til last week when we had a very sunny spell and they have almost doubled in size. I’m defo no expert but even I know they need fresh soil and a little more space.
      I’ve been told that if I don’t want my plants to be too big I don’t give them too large a pot. So I’m effectively stunting their growth. The thing I don’t understand about that though: how can they get to the “flowering” stage if im stunting their growth intentionally?
      I really just want to see them flower even if it’s just one time 😅
      Il be so so proud man.
      Also I’m in Scotland so if you think I’m growing anything exotic or “smokeable” think again it is not warm enough 😅 x

    • @primitiverobot
      @primitiverobot Год назад +6

      im not an expert, but to the best of my knowledge, most houseplants definitely do not need to be repotted every year!! it depends on the type of plant, how fast it grows, etc. but there is no need to repot that often unless there is a specific reason to do so (ie. if it becomes rootbound or has a problem with the roots or soil.) if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

    • @LulaMae21
      @LulaMae21 Год назад +7

      You can repot yearly but it may not be necessary. Many plants are OK with every 2 years. Some need more than once a year. If you find you're having to water more frequently, it may be in need of a repot. It does help to refresh the soil every couple of years, because the components break down over time.

      Depends on the plant. Some prop better in soil, some in water, some in sphagnum, some in perlite, etc. Different people also have different preferred media they use to prop plants. For example, trailing heartleaf philodendron or pothos, I always prop in water. Some plants just rot in water, though. I'd suggest doing a google or search RUclips for "propagate x plant," where x is the particular plant you're trying to prop. See what others have had success with and pick a method from those.

    As long as you give the plants a very chunky substrate that provides lots of oxygen pockets, it doesn’t matter how big the pot is. You could even water your plants daily if you wanted though I wouldn’t do it myself simply because it is inconvenient. Overwatering is a myth. Think logically… Plants in nature don’t get to decide when it rains, how long it rains, and how much it rains. They also grow out in the open earth with infinite space! It could rain for hours, days, or even weeks during the wet season in some parts of the world. How do those plants survive? The main part of the equation is the substrate. I currently have one pothos cutting in a 9” nursery pot with my own custom chunky substrate (you read that correctly - ONE cutting in a 9” pot). I’m currently training it to grow up a 7-foot cedar plank. I water it thoroughly each week regardless of the substrate feeling dry. I do this to flush the substrate of any stagnant water. This reintroduces fresh oxygen into the soil and also mimics what happens in this plant’s natural habitat. The plant is not only alive, but after 4 months, it has finally begun climbing up the plank.

    • @LulaMae21
      @LulaMae21 Год назад +1

      I think a lot of plant influencers let their plants go too dry and have root die off, and then when they water, they get root rot because they've lost so much root mass. People also leave plants too long in the thick, heavy soil from the shops which definitely doesn't let the roots breathe!

    My sister gave me hens & chicks last year. I waited until fall to transplant them into an appropriate pot so I could give her her pot back. And they ALL died! 😢 😭

    genuine question.. why would plant roots die if the pot is bigger? isn't that how it is in the nature?

    • @ss.rashmi

      well I guess in nature the water can drain away and that would prevent the rot. I think I get it

    Just curious can you pot pothos that you have been growing in water? I’ve been wanting to, but don’t understand how.

      Oh definitely! In my experience they grow more in soil

      she did a video about this a while ago! i referenced it a lot when transfering a pothos propagation to soil lol. as long as your cutting has a few inches of roots you're good to go, just plant it in the soil you'd normally grow a pothos in (i think i used a regular potting mix amended w/ some sand and perlite for drainage) and keep it evenly moist for a few weeks to ease the transition from water to a drier environment

    Are all of your plants double potted? Should i have drainage holes in every pot?

      Most of my plants are. If they’re not, they pot has drainage holes.
