For all the people complaining about the speed of the engine's response; it's 5 1/2 miles from firehouse to the scene. For that distance, from the time the truck started to roll to time on scene with the route it took to the fire scene.. the truck averaged 44 miles per hour. Some say he was too fast, some say too slow. Can't please everyone I guess. This was in Virginia, where "Ashley's Law" requires all responding police, fire trucks and ambulances to use their lights, sirens and horns when crossing any intersection.. no matter the time of day or night. The state also exempts those emergency vehicles from certain traffic laws only if they displaying lights and have their sirens activated; such as speed limits or parking on a road in the opposite flow of traffic. Nice response on the fire, gentlemen.
Interesting, I hadn't heard of Ashley's Law. Learn something new every day! Where I'm from, code 3 response is defined as 15 mph over posted speed limits and slowing to 5 mph at intersections. I think the operator's driving was pretty darn good, except maybe if he expected that semi with a dry box in the very beginning of the video to stop for him, that wasn't going to happen, but I think he knew that.
If its a tanker i suspect that it has a hea9vy load or water and try to keep it from sloshing and causing it to pendulum as that will flip that truck from centrifugal force alone that would not help anyone
Some of these response footage vids are pretty cool... It gives the viewer an idea of just how large a fire district, especially one in a more rural area, actually can be, and just how long it takes to get to some of these emergency situations!
Man that's a long response time but that happens in rural locals. I'm a retired city ff so I can't get used to the long response times but I'm glad to see those who are there to protect their neighbors
perhaps maybe you should read the 16 fallen firefighter statements, please make sure you guys wear your seatbelts we all hear the beeping of the seat belt alarm in the video. as an officer myself, that is the first and foremost thing I make my guys do before we roll out in the rig.
I'm also a firefighter. If you took EVOC training which you should have you would know to run a CONSTANT siren while running lights never one without the other. Always wear your seat belt another thing that you should have learned in EVOC
1) I've read the comments herein. Better than 35% of them are from people who do not have a clue.2) Before I read the comment about the truck doing an avg. of 44 mph, I figured it based on my experiences at 45 mph, so good enough.3) The truck was driven at a safe manner and pace all the way through.4) Thank God - no MAYDAY calls.5) Comments about over use of the air horns? NOT! Been me it would have been more.6) re: comment about Hi-Lo siren with the friction siren. People, please, you have to understand that all people have different hearing ranges of sound output, whether it be a high tone they do not hear but a low tone they do and vice versa, etc. The use of both sirens at specific times and the use of the air horns for distance, is perfect.7) Job well done Firefighters. Be careful and pray for - NO MAYDAY'S EVER!!no matter whether you are Vol. or Paid. Take it from a retired trainer.
Yeah it's the Moreno tofu eater's That are pitching about the air horns they don't even understand old people can't hear the siren it's high pitched you gotta have a low tone stuttered tone or else well you know what's gonna happen so prius drivers tofu eaters that's what it's about OK You're gonna have to deal with some harsh things in life and the Grover's stutter tone is one of them (IT SAVES LIVES)
'Engine 3 is arriving on scene. Since its a working job we'll be passing command. We'll be in attack mode', I get it your all ramped up, first due to what is a good seated working fire, but you need to give a better size up than that, just make sure a picture is painted for the other crews coming in. And as everyone else has been saying...wear your seat belts. On a brighter note, great driving, and great use of air horns and Q!! Stay safe brothers!!
For those thinking he was responding too fast, the video changes perception. I've seen video of me driving and thought "whose that crazy SOB", only to find out it was me.
The idea is to arrive SAFELY! The way he drove was NOT safe. One of the MANY reasons I don't look at VFD's a being anything near professional. In some cases it seems the legal liability would fall on the VFD's and the driver in the case of a preventable accident.
Lights, siren, air horn...fully involved structure fire I don't think they're worried about waking anyone up. it could be the difference in life or death the sooner they get to the scene the sooner they get the fire out and to get there as fast and safe as possible you have to be seen and heard people can go back to sleep but if that truck hits anyone it would most likely kill them so I say be as loud and bright as possible...just my opinion not to mention who doesn't enjoy watching a firetruck fly down the road🚒😁
Plus in some states if they get into an accident and only have lights on but no siren, they technically aren't acting with due regard responding to an emergency and can be held liable
Damn, this video has fantastic audio. Gives me goose bumps!! I love the drivers style. Too bad it cuts out a little bit. Q sounds awesome with the blades cutting through the wind at speed.
I wish you would have shown the fight to extinguish the fires not just the race to the scene, I know their will be critics as they’re always are on RUclips but the knowledge you may pass on to new firefighters could be useful. Anyway thanks for the detailed info about the fire engine
If it's late at night and nobody's around, why blare the horn and Q-Siren? I don't understand. I can understand if going around a blind bend, approaching an intersection, or you see lights/vehicles ahead but why on earth would you disturb people sleeping for no reason?
Just curious, even though this didnt look like too busy of a street that your station is located on but this could have been because of the time of the night this event occured, but anyway, do you happen to have anything in the way of warning lights that are place on the street at different point on each side of the station so that when you leave on a call they will flash to warn motorists that the trucks are leaving the station???????
not usually, motorists should know once they hear the sirens and horn to slow down and let the fire/EMS go ahead of them. this also applies to intersections, if you are at an intersection at a red light you are required to move to the right. although so stations have switch's the push at the station to turn the light green if you live in the city.
+SemperFiScout79 If you are in route at speed on a call,,, night or day, lights on and siren in use. Period. If it was your place you'd want that and sleep be damned for the few minutes you are passing by. Plus, you never know who will be out and about.
THERE ARE VERY SPECIAL FIREFIGHTERS IN THIS WORLD; THEY ARE VERY SPECIAL DOING WHAT A HERO WOULD BE DOING AS THEY ARE; IT'S A CHALLENGE TO BE ONE OF THESE PEOPLE THAT WORK FOR OUR COMMUNITIES; EVEN IN OUR COUNTRY FOR LIFE-SAVING.💖
For all the dummies complaining that the response time was too long, its not the fire departments fault that the person chose to live so far away from the nearest fire station. Maybe the homeowner should have bought a $400 home firefighting pump and generator.
Emergency vehicles need to clear intersections, and curves on dark/blind country roads mean it's good to have audible warning from a distance that a fire engine is coming in hot and to pull the F over. The horn was great. I don't understand, as someone who grew up next to a fire station in the NYC metro area, how anyone could say anything about this video was excessive. An emergency vehicle means you give way, and they have the tools to warn you. Be ready.
I was curious to see them put it out but if people don't want to be filmed then I understand that. I understand about the armchair quarterback too. It's your video so you do it how you want to
+ladyluck3139 it could also been Private Property sometimes departments wont let you film fires for privacy of the home owners. because someone could track down where it was and have the guts to revisit the house but who knows.
There is NO Constitutional guarantee to privacy when you are in public. It's not what I say, it's what he Supreme Court has ruled. Whether your department likes it, or not, it's the law!
Everyone's talking about the siren and how good it is... i couldn't even hear it half the time... What with the video constantly being muted and all.. I had to check my headphones at least 13x to see if they were still working because the audio kept cutting out.
When you call 911 wouldnt you like to hear them coming to you? Or just be quiet wondering where they are. For people trapped the noise of a siren getting closer gives them hope.
Dusty223 Riddell in EVOC Training which ever firefighter is required to take you will learn that it don't matter what time it is or where a fireman is always run lights and sirens never run one without the other
Hi! I'm making a documentary on the California fires and was wondering if I could use part of this video in it, specifically the parts of the firetruck traveling down the road, approaching the fire. I couldn't find an available email to reach out to so if you're willing to give me permission, I'd be happy to talk! Thank you!
Actullay, some departments, like my brother's, is a blare and go. Meaning no matter what time, they have to have lights AND sirens going at all times. If they dont, they can get in trouble..
In EVOC training that is required by every firefighter to take, you learn you always run lights and sirens NEVER run one without the other don't matter where u are
If he wanted to wake the neighbors up he would constantly run the Q Siren, run the power call siren, and lay on the horn.(I know from experience I live next to a police and fire station)

And I say this as someone who was woken up a few times as a kid by the engine and hook & ladder hitting their horn and siren at 3 am on the way out the door on more than one occasion. Our FF neighbors did try to keep it to a dull roar that late in my densely populated residential neighborhood, but sometimes it's unavoidable. It's too easy for some schmuck to pull out in front of them, their driveway, etc. They have a reason that they do things the way they do, even if it all seems silly on the outside of it.
Jan Maybach Fire Departments are required to run lights and sirens never run one without the other the department would get in big trouble to run lights without a siren and the crazy part is that's not even the right siren there supposed to run they are supposed to run Yelp

I could tell immediately by startup and idle that the engine was a series 60! Great engines they are.
This siren here is pure fk-ing music to the ears!
Ikr
tcntad87 no bro the fire alarms in school make a sick beat 😂🤣

CopeAndGrizz bruh 😂
You gotta love the american fire engines, so damn noisy! impossible to miss one of those around!
It would be even better if the constantly ran the Q Siren, the power call siren,And lay on the horn.(I know from experience)

Thank you for your service
0:47 That slight truck quiver... Damn do I love me some big trucks.
I guess nothing in Buchanan is right around the corner !! That was a cool ride along Thanks... Sorry for any loss. Good job to the BVFD.

God bless you firefighters and your families!
Thanks we do a lot

This fire must be at 2 in the morning cuz I don't see no reason why they need the freaking side when there's no vehicle since they left the station by
Excellent work and response ! Volunteer firefighters !

Nice video !! Greetings form Germany.
Do you trade fire patches in Germany I have a few from my dept. To trade with you if you want

Did they change the code 3 vcon into the Powercall one?
guy working the sirens likes to wake up neighborhoods
+SemperFiScout79 hahahaha, it was only around 7:30 in the the evening.
Doesn't matter what time. If it's a working fire, I don't care who I'm waking up lol

Amazing driving also loved the video
Was there any hydrants around or was all the water coming from the tanker? I know they would run through the tanker water quickly.
Looks like a rural area. What was your water supply?
Great response time for the distance they traveled. 6 and a half minutes.
Sound keeps cutting out
So, just where is Buchanan? FL, KY, TN, PA, OH, NJ, NY, MA.
Virginia
I live in FL we barely have any fire in FL
I live in FL we barely have any fire in FL
Or MI :)
that's one crazy fire

You're getting armchair quarterbacks just on the siren use, I shudder to think what they'd be saying about the attack if you'd posted it :P
For all the dummies complaining that the response time was too long, its not the fire departments fault that the person chose to live so far away from the nearest fire station. Maybe the homeowner should have bought a $400 home firefighting pump and generator.
Dang that truck on those roads makes the roads look skinny as crap! Especially on the video
My basset hound thoroughly enjoyed this video lmao. Her favorite part was the siren.
Nice and safe response.
Why does it mute at certain parts of this video?
Nix789 Nix789 to mute out address or medical information or swearing

I would be swearing but I know they are saving people lives and need to do that
who took the pictures
Why does the sound keep cutting out?
Could be something classified or just a shitty microphone
Trevor Short they are probably talking about HIPPA information such as a name or adress
Here's my WAG: Someone was CUSSSSSSING!!
That truck is fast! damn
I was curious to see them put it out but if people don't want to be filmed then I understand that. I understand about the armchair quarterback too. It's your video so you do it how you want to

nice

Long drive! But worth it! Great job !
Is this on the town of buchanan va. I live north up I-81 in Winchester va. I have driven past buchanan on way to tazewell. Good video.
Hi i love you and you inspired me to not be afraid of fires.i know to call 911 thought if i see on. Unless it is a camp fire

Love it 💙🔥🔥
Do EVOC drivers have GPS systems?
Strong work gentlemen
Thank God for volunteer firemen you guys rock!❤❤😂
they need more fire departments closer together

Are the pauses in audio a camera malfunction? Otherwise very nice!
+TIEFTR202 I would say that the address or some similar information was being transmitted. So they cut it out.
Makes sense!
More than likely its for privacy
@@CreedBrattonTheOffice well, u can hear them say the address in the beginning, when they are about to leave the station.
We're is this located at
Chris maggi west va
Who cares how much they used the sirens. All they probably could hear was working fire.
That thing was flyin'!
U get about how many calls a day
what state?
brucekulickfan probably Virginia
That's about as rural as where I now live..
Why does the sound keep going out ?
Probably censoring private information.
The federal siren is loud as hell !
Not 1 car to move over with all that siren. Just pumping the guys up unnecessarily
Actullay, some departments, like my brother's, is a blare and go. Meaning no matter what time, they have to have lights AND sirens going at all times. If they dont, they can get in trouble..
Boy that things rocking
Long drive, guess these guys decided to wake everybody up along the way on that empty road.
MuscleTrucker I've seen too many cars without lights on pull out in front of people, it's a risk I don't think these guys want to take.

what engine do fire trucks have?
Matrixmaster 22 I believe that truck has a Detroit series 60
Why does it say 2016 in the description but it says 2015 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
Trevor Short the date of 2015 is when the fire was. The 2016 date is when the video was published or uploaded to RUclips
is that dude in the back really texting around 4:45? Really....???
+zach071591 That would be me lol, I was reading the info on my Active 911.
i think in the middle when nobody is on the street you don't need your loud siren that's just disturbing

hello black ice at 4:50
Zero dark thirty. Country road
nice job
I legit put this thru RUclips converter, uploaded it to iTunes and listen to the sirens as a song
Are we there yet?
shamrock1961 xD
shamrock1961 haha true
Challenge for the viewers listen the music for 10 seconds on high volume
2:23 the truck driver didn't pull over
I'm gonna pass command.. we got work to do..
Fucking legend.. go get em brother
Buchanan is a nice little town that ended up on the wrong side of the Blue Ridge Parkway. LOL
No one uses deck guns anymore :(
+EskimoJoe492 I beg to differ
+EskimoJoe492 I know. That was perfect for a deck gun. can't tell from the stills if that's what they did. Plan on Deck gun first, then work back from there.
+JB91710 I agree it really was perfect for it. I was riding in the back so didn't have a say in it.
An 8 minute response time? That's totally unacceptable! You need another fire house in that section of town!
Six months later and no responses. Trolling fail.... Oops, I responded. :-()
On the 7th day God created firemen.
posted 7 days ago lmao
