guitardailywor... This will show how I'm using Ableton to switch Performance Slots on the Kemper. Your DAW of choice will obviously be different if you don't have Ableton, but the general principles should be the same!
Here are the bullet points.
Put Performance on Kemper where you want it
CTRL Click in track field to add MIDI track
Rename: KEMPER 1 MIDI
Scroll output on Ch to MIDI driver (MIO)
If this doesn’t who up, go to View; In/Out and it will show
Choose Ch # (1)
CTRL Click bottom right to switch grid to 16th
See MIDI Prg & MIDI Bank on Kemper screen L side
Scroll out on Ableton to see grid
Double Click where you want to put Program Change
Click little down arrow in the clip section to see Sub and Pgm
Hold and drag Sub to Kemper Bank, and Prg to Kemper Pgm
Save AS
2 Additional notes.
1) You will only see the Prg/Bank info on the Kemper in the gray box to the Left of the Performance # if your remote is UNPLUGGED. Strange but true. You can plug back in after you get the info and the controller will work like it usually does again.
2) If you don't see the MIDI output on Ableton to the right of the track name, go under View and click In/Out and it will pop up!
These videos are super low quality very short videos made to help you get up and running on your Kemper Amp! Please excuse the terrible quality, but I hope you get something out of the content!
Thanks, I'm just a family of Kemper Profiler😃. Tried so many time to find out between Bank & Sub input in midi clip. Now very clear from your instruction👍👍👍
Useful and straightforward video thank you! To return the favour I can offer you some Ableton shortcuts:
- ctrl-click is the same as right click in Ableton
- command-shift-T (ctrl-shift-T in Windows) creates a new MIDI track
- Select an empty section of MIDI track and hit command-shift-M to generate a MIDI clip. It's an alternative to double clicking. Might be useful if you want to name the clip and make it the length of a song section eg 'Verse'
- click a parameter (eg. Subbank number/Program number), type a number, hit enter. Should save you a fiddly click-and-drag
Thanks Dan!
Thanks, thats very cool :)
Hi, thanks for this useful video! My situation is like this. Ableton-usb-behringerx32-midi(in/out)-kemper
I followed all you instructions, but still have problem to control kemper via ableton. Please help me if you can.
Thanks for this video. I've been automating my Kemper for live shows for a while, but I previously used a Cymatic LP-16. Now, I'm using Ableton and also using the mio midi interface, but I've noticed a lot of inconsistencies with the timing on my patch changes with this new setup.
Have you noticed any timing issues -- i.e. where it won't change your patch until substantially after the clip in Ableton? I definitely understand that you need to give the Kemper a little bit of space ahead of time, but mine will sometimes be perfectly on time and other times be super late. It's driving me crazy!
Any advice?
Sorry I'm so late in responding! So, for us, the switch typically takes about an 8th note. So I just bump it that far forward in Ableton. I'm not sure why yours is so lagging!
Hey Dan! Have you had any issues with this with Ableton 12? I followed this guide during 11, got it to work. Picked up the Mio and upgraded to 12 and I can't seem to get it to work anymore.
We are still using 11.3.3. Man, that stinks. That would wipe us out! Can you keep me posted on this and if you find a solution let me know?
@@danshieldsguitar Yeah most definitely ! I switched from MIO to Roland UM-ONE-MK2 and fixed this issue. Going to try a few other ideas with the MIO to get it hopefully working.
@@Sleeplesswpg Thanks man! Please keep me posted.
Feel like I'm doing everything right but having no luck. Can anyone explain to me the Kemper Midi setting and what they need to be? Im thinking i have something not right on the system midi settings on the Kemper itself. Also assuming we are using the midi in input correct?
Hmmm-it can be confusing. So It would be MIDI out of Ableton to MIDI in of Kemper. On Ableton Sub=Kemper Bank, and PGM=Program. Don't use bank on Ableton. Just Sub and Pgm. Hope that works!! You'll love it if you can get it working. Most sets I don't touch my board. Just play!
Hey Dan, thank you for the helpful video! Can you only view the midi prg/bank number on the performace screen when you have the mio plugged in? Mine currently has a black soace on the far left of the screen (haven't yet bought the mio) Cheers!
Yes-SUPER IMPORTANT QUESTION! IT took me a bit to figure this out. If you have your remote plugged in, you won't see the bank/program #. It's ONLY when you unplug the controller that you see it. It took me a lucky mistake to figure that out!
@@danshieldsguitar thanks a bunch for that! Cheers for the quick response and video 🤘
Me again! I've followed your video and have got my basic midi program changes for each song. For example midi bnk 1 Program 1 is my clean channel then Ableton switches it to Midi bnk1 Porgram 2 is a distortion setting. However, I can't seem to find a way to activate 'modules' within each program. I have previously enabled effect modules like boost and delays via my foot controller. Could you advice me on how to activate the extra modules within each midi program?
@@aquietmomentinmind Well, that IS a great question! That's my next venture because I do the same and have not figured that out yet! So, I'm still making those switches manually unfortunately. Perhaps someone else out there has this answer and can chime in here??? Jordan, if you figure this out let me know and I'll post a vid for Kemper users!
@@danshieldsguitar I’ll let you know dude! I’ve dropped he question in the Kemper community group
How can I setup the Kemper for listening to just midi CHannel 1 like you did?
Hey Robin-see if this helps. ruclips.net/video/Fjv2fSkIluU/видео.htmlsi=euqDhEEkq6ay8pmT
