“The funniest people you could ever meet were in these places..” So true! I think a lot o the patter on the street started in these prisons. There was a wee guy I met in lowmoss nick called Rabbie “choo” Trainer. A wee completely harmless junky dude that was always in and out the nick but I swear man the guy was absolutely hilarious. The whole billet would sit at night when the lights first go out listening to him roasting people. He called it “Rabbies power hour”.😂 He was so fast with the come backs that you just couldn’t roast him back. He was too fast and too witty. I’m sure every one that’s done time met a guy just like This wee dude. These were the people that made prison bearable. I heard he died not long after I was in with him. RIP Rabbie and thanks for the laughs.

I used to work in a community addiction team . Local remand was Addiewell. My patients used to pray to get swnt to Barlinnie cause despite the failings the said it was a better place than Addiewell . Barlinnie is a quick jail. When i went to work in Barlinnie l loved it. Still muss the prisoners. You are right that almost every prisoner has the same story in theor background. I usedbto tell my friends that many, not all prisoners , are like mental health patients, societies forgotten people.

Done my last sentence in 2017, the routine of going to the work party and gym everyday sorted my head right out. And like you said it's a good laugh as well.

HMP Glasgow should be the end of that kind of system, trauma informed approach is starting to be noticed as the way forward. End of an era. Therapy compassion & change for generational offending , revolving door cycle of violence addiction poverty & all the other factors that create madness. More awareness towards AUTISM ADHD & ACES Massive % of Bar/L & all prison's are on the spectrum or live with similar challenges through trauma. Totally agree Kris about funding & stigma. Pre 2000’s Bar was hardcore. I went there from Greenock prison. What a shock to the system that was. Greenock nick smelled of clean laundry. Bar smelled o a lot of disgusting things aw mixed together. Sh1te, pish, sweat and fck knows what. And it was way beyond absolutely filthy. The cells were just like a hole. A wee oppressive af dookit wi inches thick patches o snotters, blood, shit and fck knows what caking the walls. No toilet or sinks in the cells. I had never imagined a place like that could ever exist. To say it was totally and completely fckd right up is an understatement of epic proportions. Kris I’m glad to hear your boys mum is going to get the help she needs.

I’ve always thought that they used to get a lot of ex squaddies taking the jobs at jails and I do wonder how many of them had ptsd or similar and thought this was as near to what rhyme had in the army they could get so no wonder some were violent but there’s no doubt there was ppl who just got a kick out of bullying because he had a uniform on
The old cons never took to the ‘new’ system within the jails. Little treats to keep the heads in place type thing and that the old cons looked down upon. Me - I was happy with a book 🤷🏻♂️

Was telling my daughter about you a few days ago on a walk around Troon, when you done an upload about the Pie Story from Glasgow Sheriff lol. Not been in Glasgow Sheriff since 1991 but still remember the pies lol. Cheers man.

But knocked it back I don't know what happened to all them. I've spoke to his daughter site she said they got left in an old house. Well pal could talk all day to you. Aye Kris big gunner we called him started as a pti instructor. The wee specky screw pike he was brand new. His brother worked in reception. Dirty dog. But aye gunner started when I was in 87 he was a rookie now a supervisor.

As a 15 year old I’d of been shitting myslef man, in fact as a 40 year old I would be 😂 I guess it does show how desensitised you were . You keep kind of telling your self all when you say things like “I thought I was going to learn how to be a top criminal” etc they were your true thoughts and tbh that’s the thoughts of lots so there’s nothing to tell yourself off about but I do I’d understand you now looking back at it are probably thinking how could I have thought that . Did anyone ever try and take you under there wing and introduce you to organised crime in your time in jail?
@COYBIG1967 Not as a young offender but did meet quite a number of guys involved in that kinda thing and got a few phone numbers to contact upon release but was semi sane by that time so didn't 😜😅 One person involved in heavy shit gave me his number in Shotts and I did call it when I got out and it was disconnected. I thought he musta changed it until one day I saw him in the paper charged with drug trafficking so I guess I dodged a bullet there.

My late prison officer granddad told me prison rehabilitates.

As a 15 year old I’d of been shitting myslef man, in fact as a 40 year old I would be 😂 I guess it does show how desensitised you were . @COYBIG1967 Not as a young offender but did meet quite a number of guys involved in that kinda thing and got a few phone numbers to contact upon release but was semi sane by that time so didn't 😜😅 One person involved in heavy shit gave me his number in Shotts and I did call it when I got out and it was disconnected. I thought he musta changed it until one day I saw him in the paper charged with drug trafficking so I guess I dodged a bullet there.
