So sad to watch this now. Rest In Peace John Prine. You were a beautiful soul ❤️
When he said there would be another record...
I only came to listen to the wise words of our lord and savior, Jason Isbell.
I love Jason isbell but he loved John Prine & so do I.😭💔✌🤘😷
Love Brandi& Amanda too.Saw them debut @Nff.7/26/19.."Highwomen🎻🎸💕✌🤘
I’m old as dirt. I started listening to Prine when I was in my mid-twenties in 1971 when his first album was released and I’ve never stopped. To me he is in a class entirely his own, an absolute original. The others have made some great music but they ain’t John Prine.
I could have listened for at least 3 more hours. Thanks for this
John prine is so overlooked and undervalued, he is a legend, his songs transport you to another time and place, i love his songs and they have really helped me
He is one of the best. He helped me too!
One of my regrets in life is not seeing him perform live.
Lovely to find this , a roundtable of veritable talent hanging out with the sage , the guru , the king of ego transcendence .
RIP Mr Prine, your earthly talents and legacies are in good hands.
Because all these artists will forever keep him alive I do believe... there is hope with these 5 (and a few others out there) who adored him! Carry him on my friends...
@@hermajessd ain’t no hope needed when it comes to Isbell. If he didn’t release anything after Southeastern and Something More Than Free he’d still be a giant and a inspiration to many future singer/songwriters. Isbell’s legacy will be up there with all the other greats when he “goes” while the vast majority of those “country artists” making craploads of money in Nashville while playing pop music with a southern accent and computer produced beats will be forgotten about in a decade or less.
Love the fact that it’s a great group of friends taking. That story from Jason was a true tear jerker. What a inspiring teacher. I had the same story with my elementary school teacher as well. Thanks for the round table.📎
"John, who did you have to hide snoop dog from?" lol
Brandi Carlile AND Jason isbell /Amanda Shires around one table? AWESOME
And John Prine 💔😭
😷🎸🎻💕they loved him too..✌🤘
My mother in laws wedding song was John Prines song "in spite of ourselves" which is not just a catchy funny song, it's actually a great song imho because it's honest & the truth... which is often the key to a great song in this genre & why I i can't get enough of Jason Isbell, seems like he only knows how to write real, honest, relatable lyrics & music to match the mood. Can't wait to see him live
Before 2010 or so, I didn’t know Brandi Carlile existed. After following BCB around the country, I just learned THIS YEAR that Americana was a genre! Before them, I really only listened to classic rock and blues. I imagine I should check out the rest of these performers, but I seem to only accept 1 new band every 30 years or so! 🤣
If you hadn’t listened to Jason Isbell yet then you’re in for a ttrreeaatt! Southeastern is one of the greatest albums ever made. One of those rare albums there isn’t a single bad/decent/mediocre/ or just ok song on it. Every single song could be a hit. I’m sure you’ve listened to him by now and know what I mean.
Phenomenal group of musicians!
This group is the cream of the crop. A perfect cross-section of the greatist artists in this genre.
Should have had Tyler Childers, sturgill Simpson, and colter wall, but i love brandi c. and Amanda s.
This is like the Justice League of Music. But like if the Justice League didn't suck. So the Avengers of Music.
Truth!!!
🤣🤣🤣🤣
just discovered this video in 2021! 6 of my favorites!!!!!!!!
Love Mr Nix! Best damn music teacher a kid could have. We got to watch Hard Days Night and a bunch of other Beatles movies in class. Loved it.
I really enjoyed hearing some of my very favorite musicians talk about their music moments and memories. More next year!
The dream team right here! RIP John.
Jason and Amanda must’ve played the night before 😂😂 it amazes me how these gigging musicians will be able to get up early and do these interviews. Amazing stuff here
more of this please!!!
I could have binge watched this for a month.
This was so interesting. Great stuff, and RIP John Prine...
A lot of talent right here
What a great round table!!!
You've got my attention!
I enjoyed that a lot.
That's so awesome
Love This! Only thing to make this perfect, if Willy Vlautin was in the round table.
I like all these folks but I stayed to watch Margo Price. I love her on that video with John Prine singing Back Porch.
"When was the first time you fell in love with music?" A real zinger!
I just woke up one day and said." I'm a rock star from here on out." All it took. Next question?
I was going to post these same sentiments! Right away it just took me out of it; sounded like something a sophomore writing for the school paper might ask.
@@ajr3746 how is the genesis of something so boring or basic?
Guess it depends on your narrative. I like the foundational history of how people got to where they are. Some pieces of the puzzle may not be as interesting, but they all add to the final picture.
No one is taking with John Prine, I 'll ask you questions John
This was so great. Should’ve lasted longer 👍🏼
Yes, the elder Prine listens patiently...oh man...
I wish I had more youtube accounts to give this video more thumbs up
''There are artists who'll wrest us up,
And place us into themselves; into their works.
These are the One's who'll continue to wrest us up...
Even beyond their appointed rests in peace.''
-William Gilpin 3821
I came here for John Prine stories. But didn't get any. The intviewerrrrrrrrrrr
Totally.
I absolutely love music of a very wide variety but i don't know a single person on this panel, it's amazing how much music is out there that you never get a chance to encounter. I always feel like I might JUUUUST be missing seeing an amazing busker if I had taken a different side street, or missing out on an amazing opening band if I get to a show late. What is the common thread that brings this particular panel together? Genre, etc?
Yo Daguy these are all country musicians/producers. They’re all currently based in Nashville I believe, and they’re all fantastic songwriters.
Brandi Carlile
Margo Price
Dave Cobb
Amanda shires
Jason Isbell
John Prine (a folk/country living legend)
L Mcg gracias, I'll check em out
Yo Daguy what’d you think?
How do not know John Prine????
Right before i started liking eating muff.
Thank you for this.
Brandi is such an activist... ha
Damn I want chicken wings and tequila now
Anyone else have a craving for ice cream?
never heard of any of these people except prine
No slouches here.
90% of the world might know one of these artists.
The rest know all of these musicians.
Could've used a little more Prine
"rountable"?
I really like all these people (esp Brandi and Jason), but to have John Prine sit there and basically be ignored is a shame. Rather than all the talk about themselves, they should have listened......and listened....and listened more to John. He could have shared so much, but everyone else was so into their stories.
Agreed...they ignored the gold mine sitting there and he was being the demure gentleman the whole session.
If it wasn't for John Prine, none of them would even be sitting in that room.
Nathan Byrd umm... Isbell introduced me to Prine. I’ve seen Isbell live 5 times. I listen to Isbell religiously. And even I will admit that John Prine can write circles around everyone at that table. He isn’t supposed to be a master musician. You know how else couldn’t sing? Bob Dylan. If you don’t think Angel From Montgomery, the Great Comprise, Sam Stone, and Paradise aren’t damn near lyrically flawless then you shouldn’t be listening to any of these guys. If Isbell or any of those people heard you, they would disagree strongly. At least, that’s my opinion
And I do agree. Isbell and Shires are good friends with Prine, even toured with him. Prine is Isbell’s icon when it comes to songwriters.
Ok, but it wasn't called Music Today Presents: Everyone shut the fuck up and listen to John Prine. It was a roundtable with five people and a host. Are they supposed to tell the host, "no, don't ask me questions, I only want to hear what John has to say?"
Where are the John Prine stories? It’s not like he doesn't have any...
I agree. I thought these young guys would defer to John particularly around influences. He's had twice the experience of writing, performing and recording.
What’s with Jason’s breathing? Can he not breath through his nose. He takes a deep breath about every 5 seconds.
damn ants
Is this a SNL skit?
Idk who the guy is kinda running this interview but he’s trying way too hard to “fit in” if you will. It’s uncomfortable
not enough john prine..
These are country saviors. Screw this "Americana title." Run Luke Bryan, Kane Brown, Aldean and all the other shitty artists out of Nashville.
Jason Isbell what a joke
😐
What?
Wow! The dude is brilliant!!
a tedious lefty despite his talents.
@@MidnightRambler Dude just about every (if not every) single person at that table leans left
