Johnson Outboard BOGGING! 1989 40 hp

  • This is a bogging issue I'm having with a 1989 Johnson 40 that has been sitting a while. It will not run at maximum rpm which is causing the boat to run very slow. This is caused by a clogged high speed jet. This video shows you the clogged jet. I did not go into detail on how to remove these carburetors because this is a common motor and there are other videos out there on carburetor removal. These carburetors come off pretty easy anyway.     have you had any problem with this motor fowling the lower cylinder spark plug?

    your rpm rang on that motor is 4500-5500, 5000 being optimal. May want to look into changing prop pitch

      do you have any problem with your lower cylinder fowling spark plug? mine is dumping fuel in lower cylinder and carbs have been cleaned already.
