Well this explains why the humans havent encountered an other intelligent life form when they conquered the space. The bethren moons have already killed everything else, and we are doomed to the same fate.
Hence the name "Dead Space" 😊 Thought that was so cool when we learned that. After the first dead space novel about the black marker that crashed on earth millions of years ago I had a theory that the marker was an alien bio weapon of sorts that got out of control and some how got sent to earth.
Trivia Dead space is also because a marker the area around it is dead space where necromorphs cannot reach. It was seen in DS2 before convergence starts and in dead space downfall
@@fumothfan9 damn you 5G tower. Can't believed that signal could disturb alien brain to. It's doesn't really make sense how all that meat not reduce to atom.
Actually arthropods never really suffered such a big loss due to extinctions, the only major losses were the trilobites and eurypterids (sea scorpions) but even then it took them several major extinction events before they died out. Crustaceans are some of the oldest aquatic arthropods and they are not only still around today but are among the most diverse animals.
I recall hearing that the part of the brain in charge of language is larger in Sperm Whales, meaning their language structure is potentially more complex than humans. Given that both Tau Volantians and Sperm Whales are ocean dwelling animals it actually makes sense they had to create a more simple language for other species to understand.
Strangely enough, the fate of Tau Volantis was probably one of the most saddest point in Dead Space (the first being Nicole is actually long dead). They seem to be a very much noble species, the kind that you would look up to, and damn near worship them for their beliefs. I believe that should they encounter humans, they would be very friendly to them, or at least accommodating. They do not seem to be overly afflicted by any base emotions, and are of pure heart, judging by the way they sacrificed themselves to stop the convergence. It is some solace I suppose that they died the way they wanted, and not dictated by the Marker. Side note, I think they did encountered humans in their prehistoric age. They just chose not to interfere, as humans are still seen as little more than primates and they do not wish to influence their growth, for good or for worse. Sorry for the long post
@@IHaveBeenDoingTaxFraud You are right, the marker causes dementia and madness in intelligent species, nothing does not say that they did not start killing each other like humans.
I was so excited when I got the notification that this was uploaded, and I am not disappointed. These are always great videos, and I think this may be your best episode yet. You are freaking great at these.
Hi Roanoke, I love your content. Your videos provide an in-depth look at sci-fi biology in a depth that I have never seen in other channels. Your level of scrutiny and tying design decisions to real-life biology is impressive. That being said, I would love a video going in depth into the alien creatures in the 2005 Steven Spielberg War of the Worlds. Keep up the good work! Thank you
Honestly, if the Tau Volantians have their reproductive organs in roughly the same place as humans, I think it's possible that the secondary arms might have been "graspers" like some insects use during mating. They probably/hopefully wouldn't use them in exactly the same way, since the idea of an intelligent species mating like that is more than a little disturbing, but they could still be there to ensure that things...uh, stayed lined up. If that's the case then, since they all have those secondary arms, it would make me think that the Tau Volantians were hermaphroditic.
@@monkey-bananas2890 they ran out of time once the convergence started and they had configured the machine for their purpose so only thing left was to activate it
Yeah audio and text logs and the video logs say the machine was made to kill the moon. But moon was smart so it probably started early. It did work but not 100%. In the end Issac kills the moon and refreezes the planet. But seems like the other moons were coming and the signal still reanimated other dead tissue in the area
Ive realized something. The freeze bomb was not a terraforming device. It was a weapon of war. Their version of a WMD, serving the purpose of a nuke (death wise) while not causing much harm to infrastructure or resources. A WMD that works by freezing would be a highly viable concept for an effective WMD on a nearly entirely deep aquatic planet. Search "brinicle" on youtube.
Imagine if the infection was recent and Issac found himself fighting thousands of necromorphs like those if not worse. The aliens in a way resemble the tormenter, having six limbs, pinchers at the mouth, and the front legs are practically the exact same design as the tormenter, but less armored.
Given their size dimorphism, I firmly believe that they faced necromorphs far worse than anything we’ve encountered or could imagine. The nexus was formed from just 1 corpse of what I assumed to be a mature Tau Volantian. Seeing as Necromorphs are able to fuse together to make a larger, more complex organism, their world must have been a hell made of blood, bones and screaming mountains. Maybe their weapons were energy based, but hell if that would have helped. They were space fairing, but I can imagine a massive hive mind-like creature snatching ships out of the stratosphere
Wait that one Tau volatinia looks like a stalker necromorph, and maybe that makes more sense considering they seem to communicate with each other more than just hive mind control, and their difference of hunting than regular human necromorphs
With the destruction of Visceral, there won't be anymore insight into how this species lived. I've always been curious about this planet. Thank you for your hard work on honoring the Dead Space universe!

But yes, people trashed the game way too fucking much. Let's see if the remake do well. ea might do a remaster 2 and 3 and finally dead space 4

My theory was always that it was the Tau Volantians that made them. Their exact origin would be nice to know. Been waiting for this one for awhile, more so than the Tormentor I'd asked about some time back, glad I saw that one too lol I love your videos
It was for the black marker on earth. Then you see that the Tau Volantians had OTHER markers too. So they came from other places probably one or more of the other brother moons

Someone should make a Dead Space game where you play as a Tau Volantian (edited to correct spelling) during the end of their race. It could start at the outbreak and go up til the big freeze.
You deserve a vacation Roanoke so you relax and enjoy yourself....also great video by the way dude! Doomguy in Dead Space would be so amazing. I mean sure, it's a horror game, but the concept of a one man army ripping necromorphs extra limb from extra limb makes me feel tingly. Well doomguy or the chief with their full arsenals would be the death of them You can regenerate your wounds and to be completely blown to pieces to die? That's great man! *snickers in gun* I love target practice
The secondary arms could be used to also hold onto mates. Some animals like frogs and snakes will fight while mating with a female, so possibly its to hold onto a female Talvalantian while mating.

Well this explains why the humans havent encountered an other intelligent life form when they conquered the space. The bethren moons have already killed everything else, and we are doomed to the same fate.
Hence the name "Dead Space" 😊
Thought that was so cool when we learned that. After the first dead space novel about the black marker that crashed on earth millions of years ago I had a theory that the marker was an alien bio weapon of sorts that got out of control and some how got sent to earth.
@@Crimsonlee2XX Yeah I think so too
Lol.
Trivia
Dead space is also because a marker the area around it is dead space where necromorphs cannot reach.
Well the horrifying aliens modified by a horrifying alien I knew there was a reason I love this game
You can't just judge them by one action they did, we don't even know if one of them was the only one that thought of doing it to stop the convergence.
Well thank you man! I am glad you enjoyed it that much! :)
Professor Roanoke the first xeno biologist
Hi Roanoke,
I love your content.

If the tau didn’t have space travel, I would assume they probably used “weather tech” rather than terraforming tech.
Friendly correction:
The volantians never meant to flash-freeze the planet - The machine was made to destroy the moon but something went wrong.
Didn't they run out of time or something?
Bionicle?
Also i believe we have that a version of the nukes called MOABs
I actually used a part of your video to help me write a paper on the Fermi Paradox for college
With the destruction of Visceral, there won't be anymore insight into how this species lived. I've always been curious about this planet. Thank you for your hard work on honoring the Dead Space universe!

It would be cool that the 4th game involves humans meeting them and trying to figure out how to fight back against the necromorphs.
And thus, ten years from now, Roanoke became the head Xenobiologist in the land, as he had the most prior experience. (Making videos about space aliens lol)
