  • Heroldsbach is a municipality in the district of Forchheim in Bavaria in Germany.
The history of all parts of Heroldsbach is closely linked to that of the former royal court in Forchheim, which was built around the year 750. In 1007, Heroldsbach was first mentioned in a document as "Herigoldesbach" (on the stream of the Herigoldes). The place belonged to the royal court and was donated by King Henry II together with 14 other settlements to the newly founded Diocese of Bamberg. From 1478 to 1849, the Barons of Löffelholz owned the Heroldsbach Castle, a former forester's lodge. With the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss of 1803, the place came to Bavaria. In 1923, the parish of Heroldsbach, which had existed from 1405 to 1610, was re-established. The municipality of Heroldsbach was enlarged on 1 April 1971 by the voluntary merger of the municipalities of Heroldsbach and Thurn. Oesdorf was added on 1 May 1971. A Marian apparition site with a chapel of grace in Thurn was inaugurated in 1998.
From the 18th to the late 20th century, Heroldsbach became known nationwide for its "Krenweiber" (horseradish women), who moved through Bavaria in old costume and with large hump baskets and sold spices and tea.
This video explores Schloss Thurn and the adjacent amusement park with its western town and nature park, the Marian apparition site, the Dorfplatz, the Church of St. Michael and the Heroldsbach war memorial.
