Just returned from my first visit to Bamberg two weeks ago. LOVE IT! Rauchbier at the Schlenkerla is now in my top-5 beer experiences in Germany (I take people on beer tasting trips). Wunderschone Stadt!
The walk up to the Altenburg gives you a fantastic view of the town. It’s fairly straightforward, but can be strenuous. Take your time and enjoy the moment knowing that in addition to wonderful views from the top, one can purchase a life-sustaining beer. There is an excellent, albeit pricey restaurant at the castle. We used to take the walk down the backside of the hill into Wildensorg to have lunch. Post-Covid the restaurant is only open for dinner, but one can take a bus back into Bamberg.
I was born and raised in Bamberg until I married and moved to the USA . Bamberg is in my blood and will always be there . sorry I can not find anything bad about my hometown . Make a local friend and let them show you all the hidden beautiful things other than the historical part which is wonderful including all the legends . It is a very romantic city and I lived the romance with great formal balls , carnival "fasching" , the " famous bamberg symphony " teaching children about classical music , Walks along the river "regnitz " for miles to end up in the small town of "Bug" to stop for coffee , food , wine or beer .... walking the street at night with lighted hills around you , castle and churches and the sound of the river beside you . Stop for a great glass of "Franconian Wine " or a mug " Stein of famous Smoked Beer from the Schlenkerla " It is a city for romance and love ! I think I have "Heimweh " homesick .... Thank you for showing the Video !
I am an german author and was born in BAMBERG. I was wondering if you might want to know the real story about BAMBERG, because it was the world capital of witch burning in the 17th century. I promise: my book will change the way you see BAMBERG completely - more than a 1000 innocent people have been tortured and afterwards burned at the stake at the city center. I lived in Bamberg as an army brat way back in the mid 60s when the army base was there. It really needed a sprucing up back then. Went back in 92. Base was still there. Everything looked better. It looks like its about the same now as in 92. Now..as an adult, I appreciate Bamberg like never before. It is one of the best places in all of Germany and if I were to relocate back to Germany, I would definitely want to live in Bamberg.
Lived there 6 years in the military. The food is amazing!! Beer and bars are great. Everyone is frendly and most places speak English. It's amazing. This is truly one of the places in life that you say I could live here if I had to go some place else.
As someone living in Bamberg, this video makes me smile and a bit nostalgic, because Walter is discribing a Bamberg, which is more and more vanishing, due to an extreme increase in tourist numbers. Bamberg is beautiful, sometimes a bit to much - So you have to be aware that you have to share Walters beloved (and mainly consumed by tourist...) smoke beer, Klein Venedig, the Sandstraße and the "most beautiful city hall" with far over 7 Million other tourists per year. This in a quite small town of only about 76.000 citizens, mainly living outside of the old town, due to the fact, that almost every house there has been transformed in some sort of tourist accomodation within the last years. But it's by far not enough for the always increasing numbers of tourists ! So yes, accomodation within and outside the old town, even in the whole county of Bamberg is very scarse, and you have to do your reservations extremely early, especially if you plan a visit between Eeaster and October or around Christmas - the town will be completely packed with tourists, not only at weekends and by far not only by German tourists - in fact there's a remarkable increase of Chinese, Japanese, Eastern and Southern European and especially American tourists, within the last four or five years! And no, in the meanwhile a lot of locals get more and more annoyed by the sheer masses of tourists and start avoiding most touristic areas or getting in too much contact with tourists. So it's gone by fare more difficult to get in contact with locals, than 5 or 10 years ago... Fortunately Bamberg has a huge University, and therfore a lot of Students too - They are mostly not real locals, living and studing within the town only for a few years, but they've got a far more higher tolerance for tourist masses, than ordinary Bambergians do. So, there is still a chance to get in contact with some inhabitants of the town - And yes, it's always a nice and very welcome idea to spend one or two beers to your "hosts" - due to the tourist boom, prices and rents have increased a lot, so talking and drinking with tourists has become a quite costly "hobby" for most locals and especialy students...
As a long time subsricber and former Bamberger (now living in Switzerland) I already love this video before watching it. Hearing you say that its your favourite german town makes you even more awesome!
My parents lived and married there, I never lived in this town, but we have visited it so often I knew where every picture you showed came from. This place is just so incredibly beautiful and romantic! My top suggestion if you decide to go to Bamberg: Go to the "Spezi" or "Wilde Rose" Keller, it's those beer gardens on top of the hills. Going there on a warm summer evening is just the most enjoyable thing there is!
Caution... the spezi has a great view over the city and the beer is good .... but somehow the food and the overall level of service seriously declined in the last years ... they recognized they life from tourists, not from repeat customers :-( Just eat somewhere else and then goto the spezi to enjoy the sunset
every time we went there the Service was good, we brought our own Food in a Picnic Basket and ordered the Beer and enjoyed the view and tranquility. Since I knew that most of the hillside is / was former Storage Cellars for the old Breweries , the Beer tasted even better- I am a former Beer Brewer from "Schlenkerla", one of the oldest Smoke Beer Breweries in Bamberg (1678)..
Although Bamberg, at one time, had more breweries per capita than any other other city, there is more to that town than Rauchbier and Biergardens. I did not see anybody mention the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, which has world-renowned quality. Also, during the summer you may enjoy outdoor serenades in the beautiful Rose Garden overlooking the city by night (I used to love attending those performances when I lived there). -- Another place to visit is the beautiful Schloss Weissenstein in Pommersfelden, a barocque jewel, a short car trip outside Bamberg. It, too, offers classical concerts as part of its music academy during the summer.

some more things to enjoy: 1. The best Schäuferla (traditional crust roast) for me is found at Mahr's Bräu. Their beer is amazing too and the pub is very cosy. 2. Visit Altenburg. Its a small castle two kilometers from the town hall. There is a tower you can climb which gives you a phenomenal view over the surroundings. 3. Walk near the river Riegnitz to the south and visit the Theresienhain and Luisenhain (park areas). They are located on the half-island of Bamberg. 4. If you fancy italian food, go to Salino. Ichi-San for sushi/japanese. 5. The Bambados has both a nice swimming area (suited for kids too) and a great sauna area (18+ by law). Points on sauna culture: no clothes (trunks, swim suits etc.) allowed. In the area you can walk around in your bathrobe or towel (can be rent). Inside the sauna you are expected to sit on you towel. Your skin should not touch the wood. If you do not feel comfortable sitting there naked, it is no problem to cover your private parts with a towel.
I lived there as a Army brat in 80-81. I don't remember a lot as I was still very young, but I do remember the Bamberg castle and Downtown Bamberg. My mom took a lot of pictures. It's kinda cool looking at Bamberg today and comparing the old pictures. I would love to go back as an adult. Thanks for sharing your videos.
The food even if from a food stand, shopping in Hertie Square and seeing the dancers come out of the huge clock when it's on the hour, the rose garden when it's in bloom. You could walk anywhere and find something amazing to see and have that feeling you're transported back in time. Lots of religious statues and the architecture of the old buildings are breathtaking! The accordion busses were also fun to ride! Have you visited Idar-Oberstein? I'll have to check your videos. I miss Germany!!, especially Bamberg!
Mostly German tourists? There are like millions of Asian and American tourists everywhere you go in the centre :D And I think there are tons of things to do in Bbg...theatres, symphony, serenades f.e. in Rose garden or Seehof Castle, many small museums, hiking tours, etc...But of course it's quite small and consequently there are less sights than f.e. in Munich...:) And for the Rauchbier-lovers: - If the weather is nice: Go to a supermarket, take a bottle to a place you like (f.e. the canal), drink it there, much more relaxed,... - If you're really so keen on visiting Schlenkerla, go there at f.e. 2 pm on Tuesday and not at 5 pm on Saturday - Try other brands of frankonian beer such as Huppendorfer, Mahr's, Fässla, Wagner, St.Erhard or Trunk (Vierzehnheiligen), to name but a few...
I LOVE Bamberg. I’ve been there twice, the last time just this past December for the Christmas market. It snowed and it was beautiful. Love the Rauschbier!
Happy New Year to you & family! I visited Bamberg in September so was pleasantly surprised to see this video pop up. It's interesting to hear your views about this town as it's not especially well-known (compared to Rothenberg and Nuremberg). My visit was part of a touring holiday, so only a 4 - 5 hour excursion but a favourite as this is a walkable town (though cobbly on the way to Domberg) that, as you mentioned, isn't overly touristy. The views from the top of the town are lovely. I wandered into the Upper Parish/ Obere Pfarre for some quiet time and was surprised at the interior as it's rather plain on the outside.
Hey love your content! I’ve got two days I’m wanting to stay in Nuremberg (coming from Vienna we will stop in Regensburg, then on to one day in Rothenburg odt ). Nuremberg is for the castle, Nazi Museum, museums, sausages and beer. I was hoping to take a day trip to Bamberg and maybe Würzburg. Now I’m thinking I want to reverse it and stay in Bamberg and visit Nuremberg... I’m using your content for our 6 weeks through Europe in September. Can’t do it without you. I also LOVE you your learning German language video series. Thanks for sharing and letting your family share too. Everything you do is done with love and just wanted to say how much I appreciate it. Tschüss!
April Escamilla That sounds like an amazing trip you have planned! I would recommend a day (or two) in Würzburg - compact and modern, with several interesting sights.
One more recomandation for Bamberg: Go and visit a basketball game! Bamberg was german champion 9 times - and the athmosphere in the Arena is prettty awesome compared to others in Germany. Compared to some NBA games - people cheer much more and the entertainment does not only come out of the speakers.
I lived in Bamberg from 1979 to 1982 and was married at the Bamberg Town Hall in 1980. Hope to go beck for a visit in 2023. I KNOW that Bamberg has changed greatly in 40+ years, but still excited to go and relive some of my past!!
I'm here after seeing your New Year's video (2020). You mentioned Bamberg is your favorite city in Germany. I've been to dozens of places in Germany, but never went here. Thanks for giving me a new destination!

On a side-note: Most of the time you can see some of the central buildings of the arts and humanities of the Bamberg university in this video. The flat building right behind Marc is he seat of the department of geography (it was build as a slaughterhouse). The building to the left with the tree is the library for history, archaeology and geography (the TB5). And the big building to the right (the Hochzeitshaus) is the seat of the history department. There you literally learn and live inside of history. Most of the buildings of arts and humanities are located in the old town. Between classes you don't walk over the campus, you walk through this beautiful town with its breweries, cafes and annoyingly slow tourists. I miss it. Even those tourists.
Anytime someone asks me about the time I spent in Germany, they are sure to get an earful of great talk about Bamberg. I disagree about the language. Many young Germans speak English, they were taught at an early age and may not be quick to use it, but try a little harder, and you'll find yourself making new friends. I was in the Army there in the 80s. It was some of the most memorable times of my life.
How did that go? If you hear of any available apartments, please let me know. Hahahah sorry, really desperate after 3 weeks of actively hunting an apartment.
Went to Bamberg in late Nov. 2003 and loved the town. Christmas season over there is awesome and people over there were friendly. I wanted to back and live there because of my German ancestry but don't have the money.
My Favorite small city in the world. Such a relaxing old world vibe. I have been 4 times and going again in September. I miss drinking the "U" at Brauerei Spezial!! Another great video Mark. Keep up the top notch work!!
I think, you wanted to say: I Miss drinking "a U" at Mahr's Brauerei! Sorry, but I'm born in Bamberg. At Spezial Brauerei you can drink Rauchbier. In my opinion, the Rauchbier of that brewery is the best one in Bamberg.
Happy new year! Sounds like a good mix of sightseeing and relaxation. Thanks for the housing tips, I'll need them soon, and I may have just booked on-the-fly. So good to know. Looking forward to your USA travels. It's about time you went to California!
Gonna move to Bamberg march first, as I'm starting the boot camp of the german federal police, so I'm gonna live on the US Army base you were talking about.
Love your channel! Greetings from Serbia 🇷🇸 1. I love that it’s not international touristy, I was actually searching for not-very-English speaking midieval towns (we have googke translateat our fingertips nowadays so all’s good!) and you summed it up beautifully when you mimicked foreign tourists 😂 and 2. The whole town’s a museum!!! I see no negatives to visit at all - just positives PLUS there are outdoor concerts and a symphony according to some commentsI 3. I am not a big meat eater BUT I will try pretty much anything authentic - which this town has! I wonder how it is during winter 🤔 and IF 1 stays a bit further from the historic town - is it walkeable and is there public transport?
I've visited Bamberg under your recommendation! Didn't stay for the night tough, I've slept in Wurtzburg and it was a really easy drive. Great Rauchbier, lovely town, one full day was enough to walk around everywhere. The big church uphill (can't remember if it was the cathedral) was closed for tourists. I've been in the exact sidewalk by the river you are now, lovely houses with porch by the water!
It was an Army Base Warner Barracks, In 1987 these units were there along with some others. 2/2 ACR, 6BN/10thFA, 1BN/75th FA, 1st Armor, 82nd Eng, 1/54th Infantry, 3 BN/1st Inf Div Artillery, and 4th Armor
I was stationed in Bamberg during the mid 80's . I am now disabled and seldom leave the house. One of the things I regret most in life is that I never got to go back to Bamberg or the surrounding cities and towns. It was such a great experience for me. Though I was just 19- 20 years old and didn't know how to truly appreciate where I was. I do know it was a different time in the 1980's and their were quite a lot of the local population who really did not like us . Or like that we were there anyway. But for the most part the local population was warm and treated us always as welcomed guests.
So I live in Bamberg and I think you haven't seen everything yet! :) We have a really great orchester and theatre here, especially the E.T.A. Hoffmann Theater! Also, have you ever been to the Hain or Erba? They are perfect for nature loving people. (2 parks, one next to Park and Ride and the other is an island on the river next to Gaustadt.) And if you're more interested in history and culture, you should look a bit around Bamberg. Like small Villages (Memmelsdorf, Lisberg, etc.) because there are many castles and other stuff around them. Enjoy your future stays here! :)
i left Bamberg couple of years ago. Livingin a franconian village near Bamberg is not so nice as living in the City. If you don't go to church and do as the villagers do or your wife ist from a others country You are an Outsider. Now we live in Cologne and we like the coloured and tolerant Life Here🤓 Germany ist great but beware the villagers 🤘 Greetings from RUclipsr to RUclipsr 😊 Great Work!!!! Dani and Marc
Is there a way you could do a video on the Kaserne (Warner Barracks) that was there? I'm sure many people who were stationed there would love to see how it looks now, no matter how desolate. Thanks...love your videos💗
Bamberg has been a garrison town since Kaiser Wilhelm. The U.S. Army had a base almost in the middle of town from after WWII till just a few years ago. With there having been a about a dozen U.S. Army bases around Franken up until the mid 2000s, Bambergers are pretty accustomed to Americans and English language speakers. So I wouldn't say they aren't set up for foreigners, more that visitors seem to fall in love with the region so much that they want to learn the area and language. And the locals want to teach you. I noticed an attitude shift when I left Bamberg for a base further west. Whereas "Franks" helped me learn German, in Kaiserslautern, many spoke english English almost out of rudeness. Many Rheinländers used English with me, I felt, so I would get my answer quickly and leave them alone.
Oh my goodness Mark, I know that I had commmented on this video back in 2018 and i don't see it now. Hmmmmmm ! I have watched this very video at leat fout tiimes lol. Anyways, great job. HHHHmmm ROTH lol.
Seems like a very nice city. I haven't heard about it, only the name reminds me of my grandsmothers place (Ramberg in Norway). You got me at the first point with food. Looks like a very good breakfast. Anyway: Nice with videos from places I haven't heard about.
Thanks for sharing. How bad is it really on weekends, in late October? I will be in Berlin and then planning to spend time in Nuremberg and Bamburg, two days in each. Still unsure how to structure over the weekend.
the typical tourist Restaurants like Schlänkerla in the "Sandstrasse" are mostly overcrowded. Visit the Rotschild, Ahörnla, or Brasserie. There you have more fun :-) And the Beer is good to.
Art Of Warring Alabama has a lovely coast! And University of Alabama is one of the most beautiful college campuses in the US. However, next week when they play Georgia for the National Championship I won't have anything to say about Alabama. 😉 Go Dawgs, Beat Bama!
Having weisswurst is appr. as traditional in Bamberg as it is in - well, Paris, Rome, Moscow, on the moon? Weisswurst is a Munich thing, well, it might extend to southern bavaria, but at least outside of there it is absolutely uncommon. You'll find it in butcheries, since in G. you tend to find nearly everything that falls in the wurst category. But, ntl.: average consumption of weisswurst per person is probably higher in NYC than Bamberg (non-residents uncounted).
Rubbish! Weisswurst is JUST a bavarian thing. NOT a traditional FRANCONIAN thing. If Mr. Wolters gets in in Bamberg, then its set out for tourists, out of convenience. BUT the Nurnbergian or Franconian Bratwurst is more common .. and also, looks almost identical ..
you know.. it is like saying Pizza is ONLY eaten in Napoli... good things find their way to other places and NOW you can have Weisswurst in Munich, in Bamberg, in Suttgart and even in Berlin...and it is for sure easier to find a Weisswurst in Bamberg than to find one in New York, so get over it...

White sausage is a southern bavarian thing. Bamberg is in the north. There is no "Weisswurst" tradition in Bamberg. If you wanna get white sausage go somewhere else. Although you could get it in most places there.
Hey Mark!! I really do enjoy your videos. I'm headed to Bali, Indonesia in the next couple months and wanted to know if you had any tips and do's and dont's? Thank you for everything!
Eileen Rivery As an Indonesian, I can firmly say that Bali is overrated (for the locals at least). For beaches you better go to Raja Ampat (this place is bettter than the pictures, search up misool the main island), the Banda islands, etc. For culture go to Jogjakarta region (this place is epic), Tana Toraja, and MAAANNNNNYYYY other places. For nature go to Raja Ampat, Bantimurung Bulusaraung National park, Mount Bromo, Sukabumi, Papua and Kalimantan forests, etc. My point is, you better spend your time exploring other places, not Bali. Go to Raja Ampat it is otherworldly

My ex husband was in the Army and is part German. We lived in Germany from 1998-2001. I didn't want to come back stateside. 😔
Best years of my life 74 - 76 so blessed to have lived across from Gruner Markt. Feel bad about the crowds.

I personally think the new cocoon next to the train station is a better place for Sushi, but I agree with the other points

I cant stop binge watching your videos
Lord Jaraxxus I'm hoping they don't traumatize you :)
Wolters World nah, i love your Europe videos, you should visit Australia
me too. where do you wanna visit most??
Mostly German tourists? There are like millions of Asian and American tourists everywhere you go in the centre :D
And I think there are tons of things to do in Bbg...theatres, symphony, serenades f.e. in Rose garden or Seehof Castle, many small museums, hiking tours, etc...But of course it's quite small and consequently there are less sights than f.e. in Munich...:)
And for the Rauchbier-lovers:
- If the weather is nice: Go to a supermarket, take a bottle to a place you like (f.e. the canal), drink it there, much more relaxed,...
- If you're really so keen on visiting Schlenkerla, go there at f.e. 2 pm on Tuesday and not at 5 pm on Saturday
- Try other brands of frankonian beer such as Huppendorfer, Mahr's, Fässla, Wagner, St.Erhard or Trunk (Vierzehnheiligen), to name but a few...
I visited bamberg with my wife in 2016 and loved it. It was our favorite place we visited on our 12 day trip to Germany.
I LOVE Bamberg. I’ve been there twice, the last time just this past December for the Christmas market. It snowed and it was beautiful. Love the Rauschbier!
Rauchbier wich means Smoke beer. But Rauschbier means Drunkbeer.... That fits too.... Lol
Went there on a Viking cruise. Loved it. One of the best stops.
I visited it for 3 hours while beeing in Würzburg, and I loved it.
Love Bamberg - I spent a weekend there last March, with the smoked beer! Great vid
+Neill Levine I got my travel buddy rauchbier for Christmas this year. Enough for him to share with me :) love it. And love bamberg
I'll get back to you late next month with my top and bottom 5's. watching this in prep for a short stay there as we bounce around Germany this summer.
Tschüss!
April Escamilla that sounds like an awesome trip. You will love all the towns. I'm glad our videos might be able to help on your preparations
April Escamilla That sounds like an amazing trip you have planned!
I would recommend a day (or two) in Würzburg - compact and modern, with several interesting sights.
+April Escamilla another good channel to learn German is "Learn German with Herr Antrim"
One more recomandation for Bamberg: Go and visit a basketball game! Bamberg was german champion 9 times - and the athmosphere in the Arena is prettty awesome compared to others in Germany.
Compared to some NBA games - people cheer much more and the entertainment does not only come out of the speakers.
stationed at Bamberg , 70 to 73 , what a beautiful city , the people are tops , the food and beer the best
We love the place too
Our favorite German town, too!
I tried that smoked beer. Oh man, its so good. It makes you want to eat it.
Home is where the heart is... I miss living there
Thanks for making travel videos, they are always inspiring.. I just left Prague and it was amazing!!
+Ayonnaz Glam great to hear. I wish I could have had some duck and a beer with you all in Prague:)
Everything! Lived there for 3 years! Didn't want to come back stateside!
I lived in Bamberg from 1979 to 1982 and was married at the Bamberg Town Hall in 1980. Hope to go beck for a visit in 2023. I KNOW that Bamberg has changed greatly in 40+ years, but still excited to go and relive some of my past!!
Love your videos. Over from Scotland and visited Bamberg today. Tasty pork knuckle and smoked beer!
I live here and i love it so much i am so thankful to life here.
Sorry for my false englisch👍🏻
Another great video! 😁
+Lucas Schaffer thank you Lucas
Beautiful town! I can see why you love it.
I'm here after seeing your New Year's video (2020). You mentioned Bamberg is your favorite city in Germany. I've been to dozens of places in Germany, but never went here. Thanks for giving me a new destination!
Thank you so much for the guide. My husband's great-grandfather was born in Bamberg and we're planning a trip there.
Hi Mark i always like your videos.. Fantastic once again.. i will visit bamberg soon myself
Read: THE FACTORY OF DEATH - on ITUNES - or get it here:
www.hexenbrenner-museum.com/en
man been looking through yr videos mark you been to Bamberg so many times....i must visit.
People never show more than this little bit of Bamberg, there is so much more than just downtown
Very beautiful place of Germany.
Can't wait to visit there this summer.
Happy New Years! I love your videos. Thank you!
Mark! I find it hard to believe you would hate anything about Bamberg!
Eyy this is my hometown, there is absolutely nothing bad about it !!! Take it back 😋
Anytime someone asks me about the time I spent in Germany, they are sure to get an earful of great talk about Bamberg. I disagree about the language. Many young Germans speak English, they were taught at an early age and may not be quick to use it, but try a little harder, and you'll find yourself making new friends. I was in the Army there in the 80s. It was some of the most memorable times of my life.
I am moving to Bamberg in April.
How did that go? If you hear of any available apartments, please let me know. Hahahah sorry, really desperate after 3 weeks of actively hunting an apartment.
@@anonimato1987 how did that go?
No… I enjoy the “U” at Spezial more.
Greetings from Serbia 🇷🇸
Looks like a beautiful town!
My husband (military) and I lived in Bamberg from October 74 to February 76.
Mei Heimat! 👍
7/6 Mechanized Infantry
I was stationed in Bamberg during the mid 80's . I am now disabled and seldom leave the house. One of the things I regret most in life is that I never got to go back to Bamberg or the surrounding cities and towns. It was such a great experience for me.
Though I was just 19- 20 years old and didn't know how to truly appreciate where I was. I do know it was a different time in the 1980's and their were quite a lot of the local population who really did not like us . Or like that we were there anyway.
But for the most part the local population was warm and treated us always as welcomed guests.
Sorry to hear :/
Wish you the best
I too was stationed in Bamberg from 1984 - 1985. I was in the Garrison unit
Great video!!!!!
So I live in Bamberg and I think you haven't seen everything yet! :) We have a really great orchester and theatre here, especially the E.T.A. Hoffmann Theater! Also, have you ever been to the Hain or Erba? They are perfect for nature loving people. (2 parks, one next to Park and Ride and the other is an island on the river next to Gaustadt.)
And if you're more interested in history and culture, you should look a bit around Bamberg. Like small Villages (Memmelsdorf, Lisberg, etc.) because there are many castles and other stuff around them.
Enjoy your future stays here! :)
oh also Altenburg, of course.
i left Bamberg couple of years ago.
Livingin a franconian village near Bamberg is not so nice as living in the City. If you don't go to church and do as the villagers do or your wife ist from a others country You are an Outsider. Now we live in Cologne and we like the coloured and tolerant Life Here🤓 Germany ist great but beware the villagers 🤘
Greetings from RUclipsr to RUclipsr 😊 Great Work!!!! Dani and Marc
That French Champagne & shrimp impression was hilarious!
+Miss Shades Of Cool I do what I can ;)
You promote this much so I have to visit it.
Oooh looks good 🤩
Just went to Christmas market there a couple of weeks ago
Looy brother worked there
I miss my home---Bamberg
Is there a way you could do a video on the Kaserne (Warner Barracks) that was there? I'm sure many people who were stationed there would love to see how it looks now, no matter how desolate. Thanks...love your videos💗
There is a great RUclips vid of Warner barracks by drone after it closed. Was there in mid 80's
What I love about Bamberg, is I lived there as a child. What I hate about Bamberg is I don’t remember everything. Bucket list return for sure
Don’ t forget to visit towns like Kulmbach, Kronach(!), Coburg or Lauenstein (superb chocolate)
SOOOO GOOD, what u r telling! I´m a Bamberger and never wanna leave it. Your video is so good. Especially Hate #4 ...atmosphere...soooo true :O)
mark come to Erfurt! Its another nice medieval town
Bamberg is a world heritage Town.... And there for pretty famous. Even though we are so small
Happy New Year the Wolters! Wish you peace, happiness and prosperity.
+Radwin Askari thank You! A great 2018 to you!!
Thanks for sharing. How bad is it really on weekends, in late October? I will be in Berlin and then planning to spend time in Nuremberg and Bamburg, two days in each. Still unsure how to structure over the weekend.
Spent 3 years there from 1988-1991. Meet my wife there
the typical tourist Restaurants like Schlänkerla in the "Sandstrasse" are mostly overcrowded. Visit the Rotschild, Ahörnla, or Brasserie. There you have more fun :-) And the Beer is good to.
Fabface Spezial is much better than Schlenkerla. Less touristy also
Bbg is nice but we have a Littering-Problem. If you take a closer look.
Awesome can’t wait! Any advice on making restaurant reservations?
Open table app or just walk by or call. My mom calls like months in advance and they laugh but make the reservation for her
@@woltersworld a fun video tonight; hope our paths cross one of these days!
8:50 it's in Kachelofen restaurant just across the smoke beer hall!
AthenaCannon kochlofen is awesome
i don't know if you know this , you didn't mention it but Bamberg has a great Rose Garden (Rosengarten) that you can visit.
Супер аз съм баяр
Oh gosh - Sandkirwa and Apfelstrudel with vanilla sauce!
+Chris Weis I'll take two ;)
Sandkerwa

Alcohol poisioning guaranteed.
11Argetlam11 I didntveven male it through hate #3 ;)
Tried it, too and got 11. Guess it felt more because most times there've been many in short intervals. Sadly I didn't had bacon beer :(
11Argetlam11 interesting
11Argetlam11 Drunk in 3...2...1.... 😂
Can someone recommend a good travel guide that covers some of these little towns in the area around Nuremberg?
Have you ever traveled somewhere that you absolutely hated?
Nolan Fowler I'd like to know this. I bet he was in Alabama.. or Romania
Art Of Warring Alabama has a lovely coast! And University of Alabama is one of the most beautiful college campuses in the US. However, next week when they play Georgia for the National Championship I won't have anything to say about Alabama. 😉 Go Dawgs, Beat Bama!
Jocelyn Wolters I'm from Oklahoma so that hurts to hear lol
Nolan Fowler I'm sorry. That was the worst Best Game ever for me! What a fight both teams gave. Congrats on a helluva good season!
Art Of Warring why Romania?
BUT the Nurnbergian or Franconian Bratwurst is more common .. and also, looks almost identical ..
you know.. it is like saying Pizza is ONLY eaten in Napoli... good things find their way to other places and NOW you can have Weisswurst in Munich, in Bamberg, in Suttgart and even in Berlin...and it is for sure easier to find a Weisswurst in Bamberg than to find one in New York, so get over it...
...better order a 'Leberkäs' than a Weißwurst to get a regional experience...
better order what you like to eat...and don't give a damm to those german dickheads who know everything better than others..
Ulrich Lehnhardt you can eat what you want all day long, but dont believe e.g. pizza hawaii is a traditional italian food
It was not an Air Force Base. It was Warner Barracks, US Army. I lived on Lange Str. across from the Gruner Markt 1974 - 76 best time ever.
My mom was born here in 54 my pawpaw was a tank commander in WW2. I have cousins there. I want to go.via Alabama
Maybe you could visit next time in Bamberg the catacombs.
I am an german author and was born in BAMBERG.
I was wondering if you might want to know the real story about BAMBERG, because it was the world capital of witch burning in the 17th century.

White sausage is a southern bavarian thing. Bamberg is in the north. There is no "Weisswurst" tradition in Bamberg. If you wanna get white sausage go somewhere else. Although you could get it in most places there.
I live in Bamberg
Stationed in Bamberg Kaserne 83-85 1st Armoured Division
I love the fact Mark pronounces it "BOMBerg" when it wasn't bombed in WW2 XD Looks beautiful
He is using correct pronunciation
Hey Mark!! I really do enjoy your videos. I'm headed to Bali, Indonesia in the next couple months and wanted to know if you had any tips and do's and dont's? Thank you for everything!
+Eileen Rivery sadly I haven't been. My Wife may go later this year. But I don't know anything. Sorry :(
Eileen Rivery As an Indonesian, I can firmly say that Bali is overrated (for the locals at least).
