  • From The Stevie Richards Show episode 3 - What you DON'T know about chair shots in WWE
    Yes, that's right. at one point in WWF/WWE, if you protected yourself from a chair shot to the head, WWE would actually fine you. As evidenced by Stevie Richards' breakdown of how much he actually made from WWE for the majority of his career, protecting his head from a chair shot could have cost him two weeks' worth of money (after expenses).
    Aside from WWE fining wrestlers, due to the influence of ECW, taking unprotected chair shots was the "manly" thing to do, as well as giving yourself CTE to go along with the handshake and the hot dog you were paid that night. Thankfully, WWE in 2024 is a different place and chair shots to the head have been effectively banned for the better part of 15 years. Nowadays, chair shots to the back have been on the steady decline as well.

    In contrast to what was described here, Bill Watts would notoriously chastise anyone who did NOT put their hands up to try and block a chair shot. His observation was that it looks more realistic to try to block it because that is what your natural reaction would be.

    As far as chair spots, I think Taker and Maven had a point when Maven was on six feet under. Why do we not see the chair to the throat spot more. It is pretty safe because it is controlled by the talent taking the move but it looks devastating.

    From what I've heard about the Styles Clash, it's dangerous because, if you try and take it like a normal pile-driver style bump, it can do real damage!
    You have to do the opposite of what you do for other bumps like that, and it's completely fine.
    I believe i heard that from James Ellsworth on Jericho's podcast some years ago.

    • @Christoffski
      @Christoffski 3 месяца назад

      In a lot of bumps you are told to tuck your chin and never bend your head back. This is one of the few moves wrestlers are asked to go against what they are taught. Imagine you've took a few hard shots, bit of confusion.. I can see how it even caught Stevie out.

    • @ThePhysicalReaction

    Putting your arm or hand up is one of those things that needs to be done from time to time to make it look natural. If you took multiple shots with your head and never tried to block it wouldn't be natural...... but if you put your hand up for every single one of them it looks fake.

I cant even imagine 20 years of doing that . Wrestlers are some of toughest people on earth , and I don't mean winning street fights type of tough ( although many could do that too) just tough mentally and the ability to absorb punishment night in and night out . In Formula 1 there is some sort of drivers union. If something gets too dangerous, they address that, the issue will be solved, there is no race, when the drivers strike. That concept never really took off in the USA. But it is not like F1 is unpopular, because of the union ruining the business. It still is very profitable. You can even have a working health care system and good economy at the same time, because healthy workers are more productive,...
    It works in pretty much every developed nation, but in the USA, this is seen as communist pipedream, you'd rather have a dictatorship of wealth. The boss decides about workers rights, that is US democracy.

    Really in general I've never understood the various permutations of dropping a dude on your own knee. 1 Knee or even both vs Entire Body Weight is gonna hurt you way more then the other guy if its actually coming down. Nevermind the top rope counter version. Throwing a knee strike up at a guy is kind of a counter-force, but just eating the downward seems like it shold just pop a quad or something.

    On July 28, 1999, Tate was left alone with Eunick, his cousin, who was being babysat by Tate's mother, Kathleen Grossett-Tate. While the children were downstairs playing, Tate's mother called to them to be quiet. Roughly 45 minutes later, Tate came upstairs to tell his mother that Tiffany was not breathing. Her legs, feet, and neck all had serious bruises; an example of the amount of force used on her was similar to bruises from that of a speeding car. Her other injuries included a fractured skull, lacerated liver, fractured rib, and swollen brain. These injuries were characterized by the prosecution as "similar to those she would have sustained by falling from a three-story building."In sentencing Tate to life imprisonment, Judge Joel T. Lazarus of Broward County Circuit Court said that "The acts of Lionel Tate were not the playful acts of a child The acts of Lionel Tate were cold, callous and indescribably cruel." After the conviction, the prosecution openly joined Tate's plea for leniency in sentencing and even offered to help in his appeal. The trial judge criticized the prosecution for compromising the integrity of the adversarial system, and said that if the prosecution felt that life imprisonment was not warranted, they should not have charged him with murder in the first place.
    In January 2004, a state appeals court overturned his conviction on the basis that his mental competency had not been evaluated before trial. This opened the way for Tate to accept the same plea deal he originally turned down, and he was released on one year's house arrest and 10 years' probation.

    Thank you stevie for correcting james, and defending Hulk Hogan/the buisness. Come on james.... I think the Brits are too judgmental of Hulk Hogan and don't show enough respect for his accomplishments , regardless of how offended you mostly Caucasian people are offended by the n-word, if you look at his life and career objectively, he really meant no harm, and put a lot of positivity out into the world, that is still reverberating if Hulk Hogan didn't exist British people would just be watching a reboot of World of Sport!!! I still love you James, it's between you and Oliver who gets the most Pro leve,l sounding hosting job, also James I think you're the only podcaster I've seen that uses microphones from a real company. Well done

      That’s a legitimately ridiculous comment. The content they make is so COMPLETELY different why would you even compare them?
