It annoys he how they never clarified that in the movies. So much of the story is left out of the movies, especially the later ones, obviously because the books were bigger, but they could have cut so many other scenes and used those slots to insert far more important plot points.
@@asdfasdf5695 The first three movies are pretty much fine as-is, but starting from the fourth movie, they really could (should?) have split them into two movies each, in order to cover enough of what was happening in the books. I guess they felt they couldn't get away with it for marketing reasons. They turned 7 books into 8 movies, but there was more than enough story to turn the 7 books into at least 11 movies, if not even more. To some, that would have seemed like a "rip off", like it was just a grab for as much money as possible. But Harry Potter fans would have loved it!
@@asdfasdf5695 I get the feeling that the creators of the third movie estimated the viewers smart enough to figure that out by themselves. So they can have the satisfaction of cracking that mystery. You know, they laid out the clues of Lupin being very aware of how the map works etc. But it was something of a false assumption, people tend to get confused with that movie. :D
@@darure because of the rabid fanbase, I'm pretty sure they got away with so much laziness... Because everyone already know the source material so well... I can enjoy the movies now for what they are, but man I was angry every time I left the theaters for years LOL
When Harry gave Snape the 'Padfoot' (Sirius) message, Snape sent word to check Order HQ to make sure Sirius was safe. When he knew Sirius was okay, he discovered Harry went to the Forest with Umbridge. He spent ages looking for him, only to realize he had left for the Ministry. Thus, it was Snape who alerted the Order of the Phoenix to the Ministry to save them. There was also quite a heated conversation in the book between Dumbledore and Harry at the end. Dumbledore felt bad for being distant from Harry, and Harry got really angry and started trashing his office.
The movie failed to mention this for some reason, but it was Umbridge who sent the dementors after Harry.

I don’t think she did Bc the books didn’t specify either. The dementor attack was supposed to be the first sign that the dementors were abandoning their post in Azkaban to help Voldemort, hence the attack and the mass breakout.
@@darksole5593 No, Umbridge did confess to Harry that she did send the dementors after Harry to shut him up while she was interrogating him in her office. I think you need to go back and re-read the books to refresh your memory.
The movie doesn't communicate this properly about just how terrible Voldemort's last reign was is. Last time, *entire families* were dropping like flies. If you came home to see the Dark Mark above your house, the only answer is that everyone you love is dead. And because Voldemort had so many people under the Imperius Curse(mind control), nobody knew who to trust.
Molly Weasley's brothers were even killed, though they took out a gang of Death Eaters with them.
Children don't understand because they weren't alive at the time. But many of the adults simply don't want to relive that nightmare, and it's easy to pretend Harry is just some attention-seeking little crazy kid who's making up lies. That's why Dumble Dizzle said last film that the time is coming where people will have to "choose between what is easy, and what is right."
Dudley ends up respecting Harry after the opening bit. They fail to show it in the movies, but Dudley realizes Harry saved him and changed his attitude and feelings towards him a bit.
Arabella Figg is a squib that used to babysit Harry when he was young, to keep an eye on him for Dumbledore, but Harry never knew until the dementor incident. She's mentioned more in the book. The Dursleys would leave him with her when they went on fun vacations.
You will see that the movie actually made a lot of sense and the puzzle pieces you received will make a full picture later. It is one of the most important parts that sets the stage for everything that is about to happen.
The best film that came out since Prisoner of Azkaban. But I think it really only feels that good for people who had already read the book.

@@The-Beyonder I would, but I think it's because I loved (or loved to hate) the Umbridge character so much, and Staunton nailed it. Also, I had read the book before the film came out, but I felt like the film covered the big points in the book without making it confusing for people who hadn't read the book. It's all personal preference, but I wouldn't budge on Prisoner of Azkaban.
Whenever Umbridge said “deep down you know you deserve to be punished” I always got abuser vibes. That is EXACTLY something an abuser would say. I feel like maybe JK Rowling based her character off someone who abused her in real life.
Even the actress who played Umbridge said that the scene made her upset and down.
This was not a filler movie. It makes a lot of sense in the narrative and is one of the most important ones in the franchise.
I felt the same way you did after my first veiwing of Order of the Phoenix, but now it's one of the films I rewatch the most. I basically see this film as the beginning of the second act of the series, serving as strong exposition by putting all the pieces in place for the endgame of the last two books (3 films). And how can you not love the introduction of Luna! Top character.
Fun random fact (from the books): Mrs. Figg is a "Squib." A squib is a person that is born from magical parents but doesn't/never develops (?) magical abilities. Another noteable squib is Mr. Filch (the school caretaker)
its explained much better in the book but voldemort heard part of the prophecy when harry was born and assumed that killing harry would get rid of the problem but what he didn’t hear is that going after harry actually just made him more dangerous, thats why he was after the prophecy this time, he was trying to find out what he had to do and wanted to do it right, but since he never heard it and harry did, this sets harry off on his new path of being the ‘chosen one’,, so it is kind of a filler but it is important in the overall narrative
Exactly. This is an important part of the story that isn't clarified in the movies. Voldy never fully understood why Harry survived as a baby. And even after he learned about his mother's blood protection, he still didn't fully understand its implications. Because he was incapable of understanding love.
And there's another whole story about why that is in the sixth book, that is also not covered in the movie.

The lady judge at 8:28 is Amelia Bones. Her niece, Susan Bones, was the person that the Sorting Hat was trying to sort when Harry saw Snape for the first time and his scar started to hurt cause Snape was sitting next to Professor Quirrell
A little bit of book knowledge here:
Lupine is a werewolf. So in school James Potter, Sirius, and Peter learned to transfigure themselves into animas so that they could be with Lupine during the full moon and not get attacked. Well, they also made the Marauder’s map (the one that Harry had in the Prisoner of Azkaban) so they could leave the castle unnoticed. Well that map had their nicknames on it:
Remus Lupin was Moony
James Potter was Prongs
Sirius Black was Padfoot
Peter Pettigrew was Wormtail
Must be cool to have advanced magic to make a marauder's map
Another tidbit of book knowledge.
Tom Riddle’s mother was in love with a muggle so much that she used a love potion to obtain his affections. Because that love was artificial, Tom Riddle was born without the ability to truly love anyone. That’s the down side of love potions.
Voldemort has the ability to love, this bit is a fan theory which was formed from the first bit you said about the love potion being used by Merope Gaunt, which was actually not fully a fact either because it was a theory set by Dumbledore. Rowling confirmed it to be true in an interview but a lot of people dont accept her words after the books. If you do accept her words after the books, which im guessing you do otherwise the love potion thing you said wouldnt be used factually, then youd also have to accept that Voldemort's ability to feel love wasnt limited by the love potion.
I love that it shows such depth to the characters in this movie. And the idea that Harry's dad wasn't some perfect kid, he was actually pretty cruel towards Snape was perfect character motivation for him in addition to other things
I would like to add that snape was just as cruel to the marauders as they were to him. I'm in no way trying to defend either side for bullying but I feel that the part where snape also is bad gets skipped over a lot.
28:35 In the book, both Remus and Sirius assured Harry that his father was no longer the bully that he once was. He matured and changed his ways, or he would never have become Head Boy and his mother would have never agreed to go out with him, let alone fall in love and marry him.
In the Beginning Dudley points at Harry when asked who did it to him because Muggles cant see Dementors! It was mentioned in the trial.
Harry's old neighbor and the grounds keeper, (Filch? I forget his name) are people born in a magical family but don't possess the power to wield magic. These people are often given a pet like a cat that possesses magic to help them out.
Harry actually did try to tell on Lucius in the book (skipped for some reason in the movie), but the Ministry claimed he was just naming people who'd been mentioned in old rumors.
In all fairness, that one makes sense. You can't just accuse someone without having a shred of proof. Anyone can say that someone was in XYZ location.
I feel like "Order" couldnt come before "Goblet" because then a lot of the continuity of this film wouldnt work as well. Voldemort had not been fully restored yet if you put this before The pervious film. Which means all the content of why Umbridge and the Ministry are upset at Hogwarts and Dumbledore wont work because they did everything they did being affraid that Voldemort had returned. Among much more that wouldnt fit. Just saying.
Absolutely. Order coming before Goblet would be ridiculous. Each book builds on the previous. It sounded like she just wanted the whole formation of the Order and DA scenes earlier but that would also make no sense because there is no reason to reform the Order or have the DA when there is no Voldemort for them to organize against.
As a book reader I forget how much only movie watchers don’t know legit huge wholes left their that are wrapped up fairly nicely on the books
Padfoot is code for Sirius. Remember, Messers Prongs, Padfoot, Mooney and Wormtail proudly present the Marauders Map.
The girl with pink hair is Draco’s Cousin Tonks. Tonks is half blood, having a muggleborn wizard for a father and pure blood witch for a mother which other aunt Andromeda. Andromeda is the good sister, since she married a muggle born.
The thing is, it had to be in this order. Because if Voldemort wouldn’t have returned in the fourth movie, Dumbledore wouldn’t have needed to reform the Order of the Phoenix.
And what we learned new in this movie are two things: (1) the reason why Voldemort attacked Harry and killed his parents in the first place (a prophecy that predicted his downfall), and (2)Voldemort and Harry share a connection (mind), which will be explained more later and is key to how it all unfolds :)

I'll never forget when I saw this and theaters and Fudge said he's back...the whole audience was like..."No... Really?!?!"
When Harry was Screaming after Sirius's Death, Daniel Radcliffe had lost a Family Member the either the same day or week they filmed that Scene, and his Screams were so heart-breaking on set they had to mute it for the movie, and you can even see Bellatrix's Face is actually a little sad in the scene as the Actress was also getting emotional over Daniel's Screams which was a little out of character but unavoidable, and I am sure they didn't want to do another take as it would have probably been harder for Daniel to redo that scene in a more Compelling way
Did he??? I didn't know that. I'd heard that Dan's screams were so realistic that they muted it, but I had no idea that was part of the situation.
In the book, Mrs Figg and Mundungus Fletcher were both watching over Harry to protect him. This meant it was Mundungus' fault that Harry nearly got expelled. If Mundungus didnt leave, Harry doing magic underage wouldnt be provable by the ministry because the ministry traces magic based on location so even if they theoretically knew it was Harry, Mundungus being there would mean he couldve casted it and they cant charge him due to lack of knowledge on who casted it. So, if Mundungus stayed, Harry wouldnt have been in all the trouble he got into with the ministry.
Of course, they could see if Mundungus can cast a patronus charm so someone would have to teach him prior to the trial in case it was requested to prove it was Harry due to Mundungus not being able to cast one.

love your bubbly enthusiasm so much! the dementors weren't portrayed as clearly in the azkaban movies, but essentially they are a physical creature, they dont attack always, often they are content to just float about and passively suck people's hope and misery etc- harry in the books was affected by them majorly, even if they were just passing by or near him- because of his fucked up life experiences. when a dementor does choose (or is ordered) to attack they use their slimy, rotted, scabby hands to clear a path to your mouth where they latch on with their mouth (apparently they are just a giant mouth under that hood) and suck the soul from you physically. I can see why they made artistic choices to change that, but it was surprising for people to see em be so physical in the later film.

Mrs. Figg is a neighbor of the Dursleys who is also a part of the Wizarding World, however she is a "squib", someone from a magical family who has no magic ability. Mr. Filch at Hogwarts is also one. The books go more into detail about her starting as early as the first book.
Among the wizards who come to get Harry with Mad-Eye Moody are aurors Kingsley Shacklebolt & Nymphadora Tonks (who hates Nympadora, just call her Tonks). They are the Advance Guard.
Delores Umbridge...If there is a character more hated than Voldemort in all of the Wizarding World, Umbridge is it! Everyone hates her. It is almost an art form to hate her properly! She is worse in the books, if you can believe that.
Hagrid was sent to "parley" with the Giants. To talk with them and convince them to join Dumbledore's side.
The placement of the film, and the book, is deliberate. One thing about Rowling's writing is that she (like Hermione) is very logical. The story itself is meant to keep us off balance. What will happen next? How much worse can things get? The war is gearing up, and in this moment...both sides are making ready. There is a LOT to go, and the world is nowhere near as screwed up as its gonna be yet!

You know, when I first caught your HP reactions, I wasn't sure how you'd do as they progressed. You're extremely perky and upbeat and that's wonderful - don't get me wrong, but I was very curious to see how you'd end up processing things down the line as the story got darker and we began to experience serious losses on our side. I decided to sub during the last movie and a big reason is because yes you have an infectious positive attitude, but I really appreciate the way you bring a reverence to the tragic moments as well. Bellatrix Lestrange is Sirius’s cousin but she is sisters with Draco Malfoy’s mother and Nymphadora Tonk’s mother which makes Tonks and Draco cousins and so Tonks and Sirius are related to Draco Malfoy which in a way Draco is Harry’s like god cousin or something like that
the reason why the students at hogwarts don’t know about neville’s parents is because it happened around the same time as harry survival, voldemort’s downfall and sirius black going to prison, with all those huge stories in the headlines neville’s story was kinda slid under the rug, also Cho absolutely didn’t betray harry and the DA, even tho the director tried to make it seem like she was given veritaserum, that scenario takes away why harry and cho broke up because in the scenario they probably would’ve gotten back together once harry learned the truth
In the book, Cho didn't rat on Dumbledore army, it was her friend. Harry breaking up with her was because of other reason. In book 4, Cho was dating Cedric, so here she was always want to talk to Harry abput Cedric which Harry didn't want because his death was traumatizing. I guess Cho was using Harry abit for bouncing back from Cedric. They just weren't suitable for each other.
1:58 Ms. Figg - just like Mr. Filch, the Hogwarts caretaker - is a squib. Squibs are people born into magical families (with at least one magical parent), but without magical powers of their own. Like how Hermione is a Muggle-born - a witch born to non-magical parents, Muggles. Well, a squib is like the inverse of a Muggle-born witch. They're witch-born Muggles.
Actually, that‘s wrong. She does have magic in her bloodline. The „magic gen“ doesn‘t show in everyone, hence squibs can exist. But since squibs can‘t use magic, they are usually lost in the wizarding world, forced to live with muggles instead. Muggleborns usually are descendants from squibs, but their magic gene is active.
@@V1G4M1 I'm not sure it was said by Rowling at any point that she has magic in her bloodline. I agree that it would be logical, but I think it was never explained that way. If it is true, I would gladly know where to read it too :)

@@V1G4M1 thanks I went to read it and the references point a webchat with Rowling in 2007. I always thought it was something like this but never saw it was confirmed. I remember that Rowling explained that the cousin from Molly Weasley which is a squib mentioned in the book was supposed to have a daughter who would be a witch but she abandons the character, so it makes sense.
Turns out Trelawney's hasty prediction for Umbridge was accurate. Apparently, those centaurs had their way with her - every which way, nine ways from Sunday.
Although they were few and far between, every prediction Trelawny made came to pass.

Iirc that is the reason why Dumbledore didn't informed Snape about the horcruxes hunt.
The person who made the prophecy was overheard by someone who told Voldy about it, but they told him only the part of he who would vanquish the Dark Lord was being born at the end of July. So Voldy decided to kill Harry, but everything went wrong. So Voldy wants to know the full prophecy and since only the person about whom it's made can touch retrieve it, he made Harry get it for him, with the visions and dreams. Do you wonder why Dumbledore didn't want Trelawney sent outside the protection of Hogwarts?
And that person's parents had thrice fought Voldy.

The Ministry was in denial because they were so afraid of the idea of Voldemort being back that it was more convenient to think that Dumbledore was spreading lies in an attempt to gain power. Cho ratted on Harry because she was give a truth serum, but in the book, Cho's friend ratted them out (without the truth serum) because she was afraid of getting in trouble, and Harry and Cho had a falling out because Cho defended her friend for snitching. Padfoot was Sirius' nickname in school (just like Harry's father was Prongs, Lupin was Moony, and Pettigrew was Wormtail), Snape knew their nicknames. The reason Dumbledore was avoiding Harry was because he suspected Voldemort was trying to spy on him through Harry. Yes, Draco is aware of what his father does. The ghostly door that Sirius fell through is a doorway to the afterlife; it's used to execute the worst criminals who receive the death penalty. Once you fall through, you're dead and can't come back (Rowling herself admitted that she wept when she killed off Sirius). It's never stated in the movies, but Dumbledore is the one person Voldemort is afraid of. Also, this is very dark and messed up, but in mythology, centaurs are known for kidnapping and... um, sexually assaulting women, so when Umbridge was carried off... Well, it's never stated that this is what happened to Umbridge when the centaurs dragged her off, but if you know their mythology...
It wasn't properly explained in the movie (it is in the book), but the prophecy states that one must kill the other. Voldemort knew there was a prophecy about his downfall, and that it involved Harry. This is why he went after the Potters when harry was a baby and why they went into hiding. He wanted the prophecy because he thinks it will prevent his downfall in the future if he knows what to expect. This is why Wormtail betrayed the Potters to Voldemort. He found out that Voldemort was after them and hoped to win his favor.
An important detail that the movies leave out is that back when Snape was working for Voldemort, before he switched sides, he was the one who learned about the prophecy and told Voldemort about it, causing Voldemort to go after the Potters. This should have been revealed in the next movie, but they didn't include it for some reason.
Also, Snape only heard part of the prophecy, so he could not tell Voldemort the entire thing. Voldemort acted on the portion Snape had heard, but his attack on the Potters backfired. That is part of the reason Voldemort was so insistent on getting the prophecy in this movie - so he could learn the entire prophecy this time.
BTW The Reason Why Harry can See Thersals now when he witness his parents die as a year old toddler is because he was young he couldn't remember but with Cedric he was old enough to remember, which is why he can see them now and not the first 4 years.

36:14 Fun Fact: Daniel Radcliffe's (Harry's actor) Grandma passed away the morning the same day before shooting this scene. The muted scream was a genuine reaction to hearing the news. Dan was in soo much pain from losing his grandma, and he was soo emotional during that scene. He started crying for real, and he had to take a break before continuing to shoot. And it was also so painful for everyone to hear that scream. Everyone started to cry, but the actors who played Hermione and Bellatrix were crying the most. In the end, they decide to keep the scene but mute the audio due to how gut wretching the scream was

There is so much that this movie leaves out that is in the book, but the main point is the order is desperately trying to get alais and inform the world that he is back. Voldemort is trying to lay in the shadows and build up his army to what it once was. Hagrid was trying to recruit the giants with Madame Maxine. We discover that Voldemort and harry are linked somehow and that is why harry is able to see what happened to Mr. Weasley. It's basically preparing for war and what is to come

Actually, he prefers Umbridge to Dumbledore because he enjoys torturing young wizards, because he was born to magical parents but can't do magic. He is what is called a 'squib' . Miss. Figg is also a squib. That's why she could see denentors but didn't have a wand.

I think this is a good movie and I like seeing how much power and lack of power the Ministry has is cool to see. It really sets the tone for the rest of the films

Tom Riddle cursed any teacher who took up the position of the Dark Arts Teacher. The reason was, because the headmaster before Dumbledore told Tom he could have it after he got a little more experience. When he came back after a few years, Dumbledore was now the headmaster. After seeing the haggard state Riddle had become, the reason you’ll understand later, he refused Riddle the position. He most likely could see how evil he was becoming.
Any way, the curse on the Dark Arts Position was that no one would be able to keep the position for more than a year. That is why Snape was never given the position.
The real reason for Riddle wanting to teach at Hogwarts I think, was he was looking for the sword of Griffindor to complete his horcrux collection.
