  • How many types of Christ are there and how pervasive are they? What New Testament teaching reveals about typology and foreshadowing of Christ is possibly the most neglected are of Bible study today. Which is sad, because it very much has to do with the foundational purpose of the Bible.

The first time I stumbled on this way of viewing scriptures, it opened my life to an adventure of studying God's Word. All the complexity of layers keep you coming back for more. I wish more pastors/teachers used the whole counsel of God's Word.

Excellent work Pastor Winger! I have been watching your videos day and night ever since I found your channel. You have art in the way you teach and present the Bible truths. I used to be a Jehovah's witness, and for a while I didn't have faith even to the point of not believing anymore, but I found your channel, and learned the real truth about the Bible. Jesus and Moses! Total correlation! The both grew up disguised from the people. They both narrowly avoided the sentence of death to all newborn boys. They both have to become saviors. The both carry out God's will and miracles. They both bring God's word to the people. There's more, I'm sure...but these are off the top of my head. Wow

Have you read Jesus' transfiguration story, and Moses talking to Yahweh on Sinai? The comparisons are awesome!
Matthew 17:2 (NASB) And He was transfigured before them; and His face shone like the sun, and His garments became as white as light.
Just a sample: both their faces shine!

I’m listening to this series each day as my Bible study and I’m sharing what I’m learning. I also wonder why I never learned these things before. It’s amazing to see how much deeper the Bible speaks, like how you mentioned Jesus said he will give us rest. I thought it was simply a rest for us when we were tired :/ I do feel a fire and hunger as I learn more about the Bible. Thank you for sharing.

This really opened up the scriptures for me when I was still new to Christianity, and it remains my favorite thing in the bible: to recognize Jesus everywhere that I read. It brings Him closer to me, it makes me know Him and love Him ever more. Thanks again for this series Mike. Praise the Lord.

I never realized how blessed I was to have been led to a Bible church the hour I first believed.
This was just part of the every day there. Always looking at those arrows that pointed to Christ. I’m so thankful for my church family and the grounding they gave me. Listening to you has made me picture them as fierce protectors of my newly found faith. (25 years ago)

I'm currently reading the OT with a friend and she has so many questions that I have been trying to find the right way to explain based solely on scripture, and your studies are beyond helpful. Loving this series! Some of my favorite Jesus Pictures in the OT involve Roundtrips that pattern after John 12:24 - like Moses from Mount Sinai or Jacob from his father going down to Laban the father of lies. There are always amazing flip the script moments that happen in the below parts of the roundtrips - as if it were showing a seed cycle with a great increase rising out back to where they started. Amazing - and yes, Isaiah 55:8-11 saw it all too.

I have heard so many christains say that the old testament is irrelevant bc we are under a new covenant. Based on that when I was a new Christian I hardly ever studied the old testament ( my basic knowledge was just from the popular bible stories told as a kid at vbs and Sunday school). But your series has been a God sent. All of the Bible is relevant for teaching today. I am so glad God is using this series as a tool to reclaim the power of His Word 👋 keep doing God's work 🙏

The literary aspect of the Bible shows that the Bible had one author, God. Even though the stories happened and are true, they did not have to be recorded in the Bible and told they way they are told except to tell the story of whom the Bible is about, which is Christ.

All of the books can be seen in one chapter revaluations. Everything that is already was and whatever will happen is based on something that's already been written. Scripure only increases in fortitude and meaning each story is litteral but also working toward a greater order of completion. Like a house the foundation affects the whole building process. Each story works something greater and greater it only adds to the words integrity. Great video. When people subtract from the words integrity or don't want you to read more or think or tie things together that's when I start to question objectives and teaching.

God orchestrates literal physical events that also display literary or symbolic meaning. This is mind-blowing. Jesus multiplying the bread, handing it to the disciples who then hand it out to the masses, is a literal physical event that took place on Earth. But the event also displays symbolic meaning, like a living parable. Jesus handing bread to the disciplies may signify God giving Jesus (the bread of life) first to the apostles, who then, through the power of the Holy Spirit, distributed the gospel of Christ to the masses of the world. The Holy Spirit did marvelous work through the apostles, who wrote much of the New Testament, and these writings still guide Christians to this day (because the Word of God never passes away!)

Hi Mike! Thank you for your message on O.T Types of Christ. The Old Testament Types and foreshadowings are wonderful illustrations of Christ! I just wanted to correct you on a point you made. You said that the story of Abraham sacrificing Isaac in Genesis 22 is not identified as a Type of Christ in The New Testament. Well the thing is that it actually is!
«By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises was offering up his only begotten son; it was he to whom it was said, “In Isaac your descendants shall be called.” He considered that God is able to raise people even from the dead, from which he also received him back AS A TYPE.» Hebr. 11:17-19
Just wanted to let you know.

I love your videos. They are really helping me through difficult questions I have. I have heard some people say that the gospel writers and Christians are taking Christ and adding him to certain passages in the old testament in order to make him look like he is all these things. How do I answer that? Obviously many people wont care how I answer regardless but they make it seem that even Christ was doing things to make himself seem he was the one talked about in old testament prophecy. I can't seem to win either way.

Mike, I think Hebrews not only opens up to us the door into typology, it gives to us the method the writer used to find Old Testament types. Hebrews is the only Epistle that informs us about Christ being our High Priest. Except for Hebrews we would not know this important Doctrine. The writer also tells us how he came to know this. He found in Psalm 110 a passage written by David: “You are a priest forever after the order(a type) of Melchizedek.” He then goes back to Genesis and shows us how he interprets this short story and comes out with one of the most important Doctrines about Jesus in the Bible. Jesus Christ who is both our King and High Priest.
Hebrews also tells us in chapter 9:9 that the Tabernacle and its priesthood (which he lays out for us in the first 8 verses) is a parable. Parables are full of types and antitypes. Notice also in this verse that the Tabernacle was given to this Church age in which we live through types.
You are doing a fantastic job keep it up.

If they did not get hungry, why were they complaining about it? I think the rock that followed them is good and substantiated. Their shoes didn't wear out just because God caused them not to and He was present, but is it a typology, I don't see it.

Jonah 2:5 describes something I never even noticed, the weeds wrapped and his head reminds me of a crown of thorns. And he’s somehow at the foot of the mountain…

Hi Mike, I just listened to seven of your teachings and I am very impressed at your teachings .But, I have a problem with lesion #7 when you mentioned the Catholic teaching of Good Friday and Easter Sunday as the death and resurrection of our lord Jesus. That period of time is not three days and three nights as the only sign that Jesus gave. Please reply for I love how the way you teach the scriptures.

Seeing as how everyone thinks they are right, let me share what I think the sign of Jonas is a type of. And that is the Sabbath. Or in it’s greater object to which it points, the Sabbatical millennium. Just bare with me. Man this is a deep nugget (and very valuable ) Jesus left here. The proof of it pointing to our time now (the seven thousandth year of the story ) is in the context of this part of Matthew 12. Referencing the day of judgement, the typological reference in verse 35 of what you have laid up in Heaven, the reference in vs 25 and 26 of the end or last days of Satan’s house, the reference in vs. 28 that the kingdom finally came to earth, the reference in vs 29 of the devil and his angels being bound for a thousand years, the reference in vs 33 of the two different trees (the tree of life yielding it’s fruit , and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil yielding it’s wages) . Finally understanding 2 Peter 3:8, here is the sign, Jesus didn’t spend three days and three nights in the grave, he only spent one full day in the grave. This was the Sabbath. But from that day until the end of all time on this present earth before it is made new, He spent three days and three nights in the hearts of men if a day is as a thousand years and a thousand years is as a day.
Pastor Mike is one of my favs. God bless him and his ministry 😇

    Cross reference that support this:
    Luke 24:27, 45
    Matthew 13:34-35 (Psalm 78:1-3)
    Matthew 13:10-11
I believe these are some scriptures that support finding Christ in the OT is another way of getting to know the Lord of Hosts, he is all thru the Scriptures.
    Check out Joshua chapter 4
    Mark 3:14 or Luke 6:13
    Matthew 3:9
    Joshua 4:14
Also is there something in that with name translation
Jesus- Yeshua- Joshua (Acts 7:45 NIV vs KJV
There is so much more to find in Christ, all Glory to the King of Kings Jesus Christ.
Thank you for such all informative lesson.

I'm trying to find a source for the stone that "was rejected" being cast aside and rolled down hill.

Wonderful, Wonderful, Wonderful. I have to do more thinking on that very last one though. Luke 4:24 section. At first thinking. I see the dispensational tendency to wide categorize. You could say that David was received by some gentiles, but some were advising others to be weary of Him so David had to act crazy. David never accepted them though because He went about raiding their cities. Joseph's brothers still failed to accept Joseph even after Jacob died they were still leery of his grace and lied to him about their father's final wishes. Moses was more rejected by Egypt than the Israelites, Hebrews tells us that he chose to suffer alongside them. Tattling on him may not be rejecting him but saving their own butts. These examples only prove that Israel had a pattern of rejecting their saviors. They continued to do so even after their deliverance. Elisha and Elijah were sent and received by these 2 examples of gentiles, but I think the emphasis of the Luke 4 section is to prove Israel's tendency to reject God. They still grumbled against Moses in the wilderness. We must remember that not all Israel is Israel, but those that believe are Abraham's children. They come from every tribe and nation including the Jews.

That’s great to hear! I used to always teach from the NKJV but my studies into Bible translations have lead me to seek a different version. I am using the ESV for this series on Jesus in the Old Testament but I may or may not stick with it after that. We have many good translations today but my process for picking a long term translation for teaching is going to take a while. But I will keep everyone informed.

Pastor. Why is it that you never give reference to any of the early church fathers whom you are learning this from? I have watched so many of your videos and never once have I heard you mention give credit to the blessed forefathers who have written for centuries about these topics which you now preach. You say “what else can I find if I read carefully and thoughtfully?” But then you also admit you are studying in preparation for your talks. Why don’t you share with your followers the blessed fathers of the Church? Maximus the Confessor, Ephraim the Syrian, Cyril of Jerusalem, Athanasius, Gregory Nazianzus, Macarius the Egyptian. Theophan the Recluse, John of Damascus. Please share more with your listeners your resources. Excellent videos.
