Very few can lay claim to the kind of legacy created by Annie Nightingale. Best known as the first female DJ on the BBC, she is also Radio 1’s longest serving broadcaster, and holds the world record for the longest ever running radio show.
Throughout her 50-year career, Annie has always specialised in championing underground music, staunchly supporting artists from classic rock and pop, through new wave, acid house, breakbeat, grime, trap and much more. Ever refusing to compromise her taste, she describes the personal value of her selections, saying: ‘if I couldn’t choose the music I played, I wouldn’t want to do it at all’.

Everybody, and l mean everybody, from all musical genres loved this woman. I remember hearing Band on the Run on her show with Alan Black and thinking McCartney is back ( I was wrong!) at 14. That show introduced me to so many obscure bands and never realised she was still going strong until i started listening to radio again a few years ago.
    A Legend. RIP

Can't believe this lady has passed away, LEGENDARY IS ONLY A CLIQUE, joined radio 1 in 1970 and remained the only female DJ for 12 YEARS!!!!!. Still broadcast lasting last year an absolute "ICON" AND TRAIL BLAZER who showed how broadcasting should be do and influenced and championed so many other MALE AND FEMALE DJ'S and her taste in music absolutely sublime and in my humble opinion... The LATE FEMALE TREND SETTER JUST LIKE THE LATE JOHN PEEL JOCK of the airwaves SIMPLE IRREPLACEABLE, RIP ANNIE NIGHTINGALE, I FOR ONE OWE YOU SO MUCH For YOUR SENSATIONAL AND SOMETIMES CONTROVERSIAL BUT ALWAYS SUBLIME AND COMPULSIVE LISTENING TO..... THANKS FOR YOUR MUSIC ,OPINIONS AND JUST FOR BEING YOU AND ONLY YOU 🙏. the airwaves just lost a genuine and truly heroic stylish and sophisticated broadcaster of EXQUISITE AND INCREDIBLE AND ASTONISHING TALENT.

The Stones had several of their tracks featured on an early eighties compilation box set _The Swinging Sixties_, sold through Reader's Digest.
