The way we elect a leader is. . When you vote, you vote for your local electorate representative. NOT for a president (or as we call it "Prime Minister")
If a person wins their local seat or electorate, he goes into Parliament. He/she is probably representing one of the two main political parties that we have. (we have a 'left' (ish) party and a 'right'(ish) party as the two main parties, along with independants etc.)
The members of the parties elect a leader of their Party.
It's the Party leader that becomes the Prime Minister.
If the leader of the party (The Prime Minister) does something that the people or the Party think is bad enough, the members of his OWN Party can vote in a new Party leader. . Bingo! - literally within 1 hour we can have a new leader of the country (and this has happened a few times within the past 20 years or so). . . Admittedly, that person is still a member of the party in power and will tend to support and continue the policies of that party. . .
That NEW Party leader then becomes the Prime Minister. . . The voters of the country have no part in it.. .
As an example. . If the same system were used in the US, Trump would FIRST have to be elected the GOP representative for his local electorate.
Then, as a member of the GOP in the house of representatives - or as a senator. . he would have to remain the elected representative of his electorate for long enough until after he has enough experience and support from other GOP representatives - he MIGHT be elected the Party Leader of the GOP. . . If the GOP happen to be in opposition at the time, and the Democrats are in power, then Trump is merely the leader of the Opposition party.
If there is a full general election, Trump must win his local electorate (again) to remain in government. . AND - If the GOP wins enough seats, they become the Party in power and it is their Party leader who becomes president.
If the president doesn't behave - his own party can vote him out!!. . . No need for indictments. . no need for impeachments. . Just the party members get together. . fire him as their leader and vote in a new leader. . . . the new President!
