In my never to be humble opinion, in most cases, So Hyang's cover of classic songs, makes the original sound like a demo tape.

I love watching you react to these videos because, having already watched them many times, I can predict your reactions. So glad you were introduced to Sohyang. Now I feel like someone has to introduce you to both Son Seungyeon and Ailee, among the many talented and amazing female Korean singers. For Sohyang, my favorite performances of hers are from her Masked Singer appearance. Fenomenal.
Yes, patience is a virtue Danielle! Sohyang has her trademarked way of doing arrangements (yes, she does the arrangements too!) and singing. Start on the soft side and then let them have it with _both barrels_ about the half-way mark! Literally, the vast majority of us think Sohyang is the best vocalist in the world right now, and for the last ten years or so, too.
Whitney Houston's former manager saw this performance on RUclips and showed it to Oprah. She then sent it to David Foster, who got in touch with Sohyang and arranged for her to do a concert with him in Vancouver, British Columbia. But that fell through the floor for reasons Sohyang hasn't elaborated on, (but perhaps due to her health problems), so they got together in Tokyo for eight concerts in late 2018. As you must know, David Foster was Whitney's producer for some of her songs, wrote "I Have Nothing" specifically for Whitney for the movie "The Body Guard," and puts Sohyang on the very top tier of vocalists singing today.
Sony Music US tried to get her to sign a contract with them in October 2020 but Sohyang turned them down. She doesn't want anything to do with the big time music business and the Hollywood lifestyle. She is a Christian who takes it seriously and is concerned the big time music business will corrupt her spiritually. So she still only sings for churches, charities and fund raisers for the needy and poor. She also does some film work, like the protagonist's vocals in the Korean version of Disney's "Moana" and sound tracks for TV dramas. She also records Gospel songs for her small South Korean label. So, I'll bet that is a surprise, eh? We think she might actually be an alien ... 😉👌🛸👩🚀

Wonderful reaction, Danielle! The vocal monster, So Hyang, strikes again! Purely electrifying! Now, you still have some really great live performances by her to check out. 'Everyone' is considered one of her greatest performances (she has said it was very challenging and is sung in both Korean and English). There is 'Lean On Me' and 'Arirang Alone' (the second sung in Korean), "You Lift Me Up' and a couple of different genres from the BeginAgain concerts 'Misty' (she kills it) and 'Day Day' where she raps in harmony with other very talented artists (Henry Lau and Lee Suhyun and one other gent that I have forgotten the name of). Also she sings the greatest version of 'Oh Holy Night' I have ever heard, from the Korean 'I Am Singer' show. The BeginAgain concerts are from after the pandemic hit and were put on to bring joy to Koreans in a tough time. I personally think this rendition of 'I Have Nothing' is the best I have ever heard, especially live. She was flawless. Thanks for your reaction!

Sohyang, the best singer, gives dreams, hopes, and emotions. A person whose live performance is better than an album.
Her song Dream was done during the same concert and is her original song, in Korean, and has some of the highest notes I've heard her sing.

Great reaction! Gonna just repeat what others have said, but “Lean On Me,” “Arirang Alone,” and “Everyone” are other So Hyang performances that would make for a good reaction video. I’d suggest you react to “Everyone” last as I feel it’s her magnum opus. Make sure to watch the subtitled versions of “Arirang Alone” and “Everyone” to better understand the context of those songs as they are primarily sung in Korean. Cheers!

I realized that RUclips never contain the true and real sound and wonderful voice so I was so surprised and moved.

I totally agree. I am a westerner and I must say she is my fav by far. But here in the USA it is not that often that the most talented are the most popular. It has always perplexed me. I mean Whitney was loved, but Haley Reinhart is not nearly as popular and she is soooo good, and Eva Cassidy was never even known until after her death. Anyway it is about promotion and money so often and not enough about how a singer moves her or his listeners. So Hyang moves mountains!

Some other great songs to consider are: all her songs on King of Masked singer, including Day day, Home, and a favorite of mine, Arirang Alone. You're enthusiasm is quite infectious and makes me smile with you
It's interesting you noticed the band. They were supplied by the venue, so were the BU singers. They are not her band. If you look closely, they are playing to sheet music and she even snaps her fingers at the tempo she wants. If you can believe this, she stood out there in jeans and got to run through her 2 songs once and not at this level. I have it in my private collection. There were about 8 acts that day. She is a superior Vocalist.

So Hyang is like Dimash. Just pick any of her performances at random, and you'll be blown away. But yeah, gotta agree with all the other commenters that "Everyone" is her best.
The entire range is one note higher than the original. That's great.

Sohyang's version is 1 key higher at the start, but 2 keys higher later. Then closing with a bunch of much higher notes and epic riffs&runs. Even David Foster was amazed and thrilled by Sohyang's live performance that he contacted her to invite her to tour with him. She eventually did 8 shows with him in 4 days at the Blue Note Jazz Club in Tokyo, Japan.

It’s an older one of hers, but I HIGHLY recommend you react to her performance of “You Raise Me Up”. It’s the first thing I ever saw from her and 100% brought me to tears (still does sometimes).
