I had a 1972 fj40 that i replaced the full rag top with an aftermarket half top...my rig looked like a pickup like this one...I had big Maxi Trac tires on it...I had it for 15 years and it wasn’t no pavement princess...it put thru some tough runs over the years...it never failed me...
Damn! That is phenomenal! I’ve been having very similar thoughts. FJ cab integrated into troopy tub, on a Coil sprung IFS 4 Runner chassis with a Supercharged Ecotec V6. I’ve made those choices just based on stuff i have lying around the farm. Just want something i can drive out to the bush block and carry some tools and the dirt bike in relative comfort. I’m not a huge fan of how most of the utes drive on bumpy roads (or the smooth ones).
thank you. its not hard, just a bit of time and the confidence in giving it a go. grinder and welder is all you need for your rusty 40 to become a non rusty 40.
Thank you for this informative video cuz I've been working on my own build. I have a question about the infill bracket for the rear chassis cut. Is it installed as shown in the photo or is it inserted between the cuts
This thing is awesome. I would love to restore a 40 series pick up after my son and I finish our 1977 FJ40 build. Maybe that will be my next one to document and make some videos about. I also really love the FJ55's as well!!
hey there, did the h151f bolt straight to the 1hdt, because i am looking at putting a 79 series gearbox on the back of my turboed 1hz and was wondering if it would bolt straight in. my understanding is the 1hdt is the same as the 1hz but turboed from factory.
more or less. you have to change the input shaft and also the support tube on the front of the gearbox housing. H150/151 and now 152 are all the same physically just different rations.(150 for non turbo engines usually, 152 for turbod and fzfe) Just wondering if the fzfe engine has a different bellhousing. Mine was from a 1hz and it all came together.
was about 20 months from the start to driving it on the road. could be done sooner if you don't change the body or have to fabricate things as much as I had to.
I got some 76mm x 3mm tube bent to the shape that I required, then cut the tube in half, then cut the top section in half again to give me a left and right hand side. I then made a frame from 25.4mm sq and filled in the gaps with sheet metal. Took a while for each side but happy with the result. One is not a bit banged in after catching it on a tree but still looks the same.
@@itsfromlawrence Thank you so much for the tip , great idea ! I hate the fiberglass flares on my 40 and would like to replace them with something more durable .

Hey Sporty 40 , where did you get the outer formed sheet metal you used to make the rear wheel fender flares ? I need those to make flares for my 40 !
