Awesome mate! Not many of us young blokes into these at such a young age! You can do anything to these old rigs with a bit of time and a can do attitude!
Cheers mate! I was keen to use the tub, but decided for what I want it for, I'm better off building my own tube styleside/tray. That way I'm not wrecking a rare tub, and I can build it differently to better suit 4wding and camping.
Yeah definitely something I will look into later down the track. I don't really have the money atm. There's heap of 80s running stock diffs with LSs but I'll at least go to RCVs if not GU diffs when I get the money
Hi Tom Just came across your video I’m doing the same build and just got all my lazer cut brackets off billy looks like you’ve done the same 👍🏻 keen to see how you go because I’ll be doing the same 😂👍🏻
Looking forward to.following along Tom, I'll be doing doing very similar to my FJ45. One request though, could you sort you audio levels a bit better? Voice/talking needed bumping up and then music and engine noises were way too loud. This is important if people are watching late at night.... cheers, Andy
Yes definitely mate! Its my first real time editing, so don't really have any idea what I'm doing, but I'm gonna try get the video quality up as much as possible!
@@tomyoung5521 keep at it mate. I look back at my first videos and have listened to lots of feedback with respect to music and audio etc and I'd like to think I have improved over the years. Best of luck and I'm subscribed and following! Cheers, Andy
Great work ! You mentioned a cut down steering column, I myself just got a 40 and the column is just too high, how’d you go about shortening the column ?
Its just the actual shaft I shortened, not the outer column, so my steering wheel sits in the same place. I got the rag joint end machined off and a spline to suit a uni joint put on so I could connect it to the 80 series steering box.
Hey mate! A bit of personal preference, but a few main reasons. 1. The original location sits further forward from the front panel, meaning the winch would sit further forward, reducing the approach angle. 2. I'm a bit particular about it making it in proportion and like it rolled out of the factory on this chassis. Putting it upside down puts it at a much better height for your front panel to mount, keeping it looking nice factory and snug. Not an essential mod but makes for an overall neater, practical car and finish. Thanks
In the next couple weeks I'll post the second episode getting the engine and gearbox in, and building tube guards. Back in another lockdown here so can't get in to our factory to work on it atm so spacing them out a bit👍
Yeah I'm from Melbourne Australia. Without engineering I can only go 33s. Most engineers won't even engineer 35s but its possible. It also depends on the state. Some people have got 37s legal but its vey rare and tricky. Most engineers want a heap of swerve and brake testing as well as run 1 tones ect..
@@tomyoung5521 interesting for sure! Kinda sucks that you are limited on tire sizes there. Course we kinda are here in the US as well. But we can go up to 44’s possibly bigger now. We also have a lot of trucks, jeeps, Toyota’s, and access to a lot of big lift kits
@@zerofuckkksgiven8027 yeah its interesting the difference. We aren't really allowed more then a 2 inch lift here either. Also I think you have a lot more emissions control compared to us. And like my fj45 would be super rare and sort after in the US, whereas here its the most common 40 series, and everyone wants a swb haha..
@@tomyoung5521 yeah you’re right! I’ve seen a handful of 45’s here. Which I’m sure those people had them shipped over. We do have lots of FJ40’s though. But no pickups like you do. Jeep really dominates here and always has. Now the bronco is out to. Lots of stuff coming. But yeah factory wise emission stuff comes. Depends on what area you live to. If you life out in the country you don’t have to smog check it where you do if you live in the city.
I'm sitting at 7300 atm but that's including all the engine and marks adapters kit ect.. Hoping to be under 15K including engineering and on road costs, 37s, axles ect... Possibly a tad optimistic but time will tell. Will likely do a budget video for those interested!
Awesome job mate. I’ll watch your next one now👍
Hell yeah I love this 😀 gives me inspiration for my fj 60 I'm only 16 and it is cool to see someone else with the same passion

Good work….sad thing is I’ve thrown out better cabs than that that I thought were shit…good to see you saving one!
Good on you young Tom Young, I am looking forward to this build. Well done dad.
17? Legend! Well done mate. I’ll show this to my 10 year old and inspire him 👌 His name is Tom as well btw 🤘
Awesome work Tommo, looking forward to seeing the finished product getting dirty👌
Great work young fella 👍👍👍
Great work mate. Hope the tub can be modded to fit on the back.be one of a kind.

Looking good Motty both you and the car ;)
Great video Tom. Looking at doing the same conversion. Keep up the posts.
Should be getting gu Diffs. With an LS1 in it you’ll be running on luck to hold the front end together, especially in reverse.

@@tomyoung5521 where can i get the lazer cut brackets. Please share his info
ahhh. The memories
Probably wouldn't be building it if it wasn't for me drooling over your builds mate!
