    Try dropping the air out of the tires it might give you the clearance you need to get it out of the garage or find some smaller tires with the same stud pattern. Might save you pulling your garage apart.

    Fellow engineer with the dream to build something similar.
    I loved the original plan list. I reckon continue to refer back to it to keep structure to the build.
    Continue to show wins and losses. Force yourself to keep a video a month. Have a game plan for the channel after the build.
    I think it'd be really cool if you built on your eng background through the build and document the build as an engineer, focusing on any custom design work etc that you do.
    Also I'd love to get more detail on what's involved to get the car engineered and approved, please document how you're doing that and what's involved.

      Hey James, cheers for the feedback. I'll try to do a video a month, and you're right, I need to think about after the build. I was thinking about doing some trips but it's not the same as car building.
      In regards to the custom design I definitely plan to document and focus on it, but annoyingly that won't start until the later episodes!

    Hi Richard, I only stumbled across your channel the other day, I hope you don't mind but just a few of my thoughts and idea after being a automotive and mechanical engineer all my working life, I'm 64 yrs old now so I know a thing or 2. First of all I'm really impressed with Barra's and the easy power they make and second putting one in a 40 a match made in heaven, my first thought was, get the engine running to make sure it's OK and as soon as you've done that, and your not going to like this bit, pull the engine back out, strip down the front timing cover a fit a NEW oil pump, I've watched A LOT of Barra build vid and the original oil pump is always mentioned as a fail point as it's just isn't up to the job, remembering your potentially going to put the truck on some pretty extreme angles, driving on LONG, HOT, corrugated roads so spend the money, do it once and do it RIGHT !! Also if your going to run high boost I'd do head studs, if not don't worry about it, and just one more thing, keep everything simple and as easy to fix as possible because when you break down WAY outback, you'll understand why, I traveled extensively through the outback and broken down for the strangest reason and keeping it simple and straight forward, WORKS. Seeya Rob

      Hey Rob, cheers for the feedback, really appreciate it. I think you’ve got a fair point and when I pull it down to paint the chassis I think I’m going to do it. Trying for a stock setup so I won’t bother with head studs for now!

    Id say your best way to beable to move the cruiser in and out would be to get cheap old low profile 16inch tyres on your wheels and that should take at least 2 or 3 inches out of the hight. I had the same issue but also had an archway so what did i do nocked the arch out and put a new lintle in and lowered the floor so now have 2.5m hight through my carport, wasnt cheap but now ill have no dramas at all.

    • @DesignedandBuilt
      @DesignedandBuilt  3 года назад

      2.5M sounds like the dream! If I get desperate I'll roll it out on the low profile tires, looking to park it in there permanently and don't want to let air down/put stockies on every time!

    You know, instead of hacking up your garage door you can always just let thr tyres down then pump them back up when its out.
    Unless you're wanting to take it in and out a lot.
    My old comp truck I had a bare set of rims that I used to bolt on (firstly because I didn't want it sitting on treps for months at a time but mostly because it didn't fit through the door)

      On that, I was harvesting in northern NSW and guys there had the sickest trays! Built in to thr headboard was a retractable air line and water line. It had a 45 litre water tank with pump and spray nozzle and some cool under tray storage with little doors. They were farm trays but honestly weren't that big and there's no reason it couldn't be made into a tourer tray.

    Is a hard one moving the roller door. You are very limited by the sheer size of the door when it is rolled up. You might be better off with a low profile sectional door. I had a cruiser 45 previously with 35’s and I had a taller than standard door and still only just fit it in.
    Love the series already. I am in planning stages of building a gq/45. With six litre ls based motor

    • @DesignedandBuilt
      @DesignedandBuilt  2 года назад

      Hey Dan, absolutely fair point. I don’t know that it would have worked on a patrol chassis to be honest. I think there is only 50mm difference in wheelbase. I think the Barra and ZF are the problem!
      I personally think the 80 series chassis is better with mechanical design. The rear coil towers and the front radius arms for example are better on an 80. I have also heard of a few people snapping patrol chassis.
