Back in 1974 a automatic garage put a 161holden motor into my series2 Land Rover. Same garage was putting a Valiant 245 connected to a Dodge Phoenix automatic into a series 2 Land Rover . This set up was way ahead of its time .
I love this! I have an 80 I built with 5.7 Vortec. Now Im thinkin FJ45 four door, short bed, on 80 frame. Time to lobby for spousal approval for new project.
Wow such an awesome project, love the fact that you go into decent detail and explain everything! I think you deserve way more views, bet your channel will blow up soon. Keen to follow the rest of the build !
Awesome video dude you definitely get a👍 and subscribe. You definitely have some good skills and edited this video almost perfectly one of the best aussie vlogs i have seen. Cool build too can't wait to see it run.
@@DesignedandBuilt You really have really hit the spot with explanation and fotage and cut out the excess. I normally don't like Aussie Vlogs but your is really tops.
good video. Before you weld up the engine mounts fully, get an certified engineer to inspect so that you can be sure you will get the cert and roadworthy at the end.
Just be weary about the fact that you have been told the timing chain has been replaced. These do not often need to be replaced, it is an interference engine, so check the piston tops with a scope perhaps. Then the other question is has the fitter set up the cam timing correctly. I would try and speak with the guy that did the work if at all possible. An aftermarket option is replacing the gear pump gears with billet gears. They can shatter with manuals, with abusive driving. You seem like a nice guy, don't get dropped off.
Don't use a strong rattle gun when doing up flexplate/flywheel bolts, as you can spread the holes in the crankshaft and distort the outside of the crankshaft into a flower shape where the rear main seal runs.
I had a BA xr6 turbo, as soon as I started trying to get more power, I got valve float. Maybe they fixed it in the FG. But even I know with a Barra says, springs and head studs are a must
New Sub, lovin the project. Just a question, instead of raising the garage door, why not just take the top off when the time comes? Apparently it's pretty easy on the '45s...
Hey Tony, I should have explained that the garage is going to be it’s permanent home and would love to get it in and out easily ie drive in then drive out! But you raise a good point I hadn’t thought about that :)
@@DesignedandBuilt Ah haha, yes that could be a bit ridiculous, as would deflating and reinflating tires each time... how about air-ride suspension? Anyway can't wait for next vids
Love the vid I'm doing the exact same in my 80 so I can actually tow something heavy and get some better fuel economy than a 3fe 🤣🤣,did the PJ's adapter come with the hardware shown in your vid?
Love the videos. did you have many issues with the certification from the DOT? having a little trouble finding one in Brisbane. ywould you have a contact i could have a chat with? thanks for your time.
Awesome project mate, can you give some insight into the process of getting it engineered. How much thought did you have to put in before starting to ensure it will be able to certified?
Hi mate, my advice is to engage an engineer early in the build, treat them well and ask for advice/considerations before you start. I put a bit of thought into getting it certified and it’s not too bad.
Rude not to! Would be interested to see how it fit, you’ll see my driveshafts in a few episodes time. Might be worth looking into the ZF box from a territory, not sure if it is shorted but setup length could be an issue.

Haha love that, top tip!
Excellent info. Saved heaps of research time. Just started the same build. Thanks 👍
great documentation on the build. I can see many people using it for a reference.
Keep the videos coming. Really enjoying them so far and look forward to the rest of build.
Cheers!
More than keen to see this beast come together, awesome job👍
Can't wait for the shed skids!!!
Ha! Neither can I
Have a feeling this youtube will blow up with great content and explanation as he did great job mate
Thanks for the feedback mate! Appreciate it :)

Yes! Or maybe don’t ask and just do it?

Mate awesome work. Really enjoyed the two vids up so far. Thanks for the detail.
Bloody keen to see this build through, great job 👏
Nice work mate!
Just found this build and channel!! Great lot of info in there. Keen for the next episode
going to be awesome mate. wish I had the balls and the skills to do something like this
Not sure that I have the skill but willing to give it a crack and learn!
Awesome build
Hope I can check out your handiwork next year on Aus day, love your work. CB
Yep I've subbed!!!! I can't wait to see it done
Looking forward to the bush mechanics

yeah me too... liked watching it..
Cheers mate. Liking your channel. Just building your car with great info and footage. Keep at it, looks awesome
Cheers Carl!
Good work pal

Thanks for the tip Brent, useful info!

Thank you!

Cheers mate, really appreciate the advice. Maybe next time it’s out I’ll do it all!
Like to see this rig on Beer O Clock hill!
Nice one mate. Great build. Good tease of next episode at the end. Bit of elevator music in the background might go down alright.
Geez mate, production value might be too high for my computer to handle! I’ll look into it for you though.
Awesome videos loving them

Loving it, what do you think of landrover defenders?
I think they look cool and they’ll teach you to be a good mechanic!
Buy the upgraded steel tensioner arm and pulley if it hasn't got it already as it's one of the first things to go
Hey Tobias, cheers for that info. I have a long time before I drive this thing so I think I might just do that!
@@DesignedandBuilt no worries, had one go on a mates territory and got stuck changing it on the side of the road
Hello from the USA. What wiring harness you used running your cab? Thanks
None! Just made one!!
what cad program did you use ?
Are you going to do valve spring and head stud upgrades? Highly recommend you do
Was contemplating just oil pump gears and timing chain. Not pushing massive power. Thoughts?
I had a BA xr6 turbo, as soon as I started trying to get more power, I got valve float. Maybe they fixed it in the FG. But even I know with a Barra says, springs and head studs are a must

Hey Daniel, haha awesome! Yep it came with all the necessary bolts, you’ll need to get yourself the right tap and drill bit though!
Of course a Barra fits, I fitted a 460 and c6 into mine lol.Have you thought of a small body lift to give you more room to work with?
Ha! I am trying to keep it as low as possible for the garage!

No dramas in Victoria!
What’s yr thoughts on the 1uz? Did you consider this one? Nice 👍
Hi Mate, from what I hear they seem to be a reliable engine. I never considered it, always wanted a Barra!

Can you get that alternator up, going to cop a lot of water and dust down low
Yeah anything is possible! I think there are relocating kits. Maybe I’ll look into it.
@@DesignedandBuiltThe 79s and 200s have a lot of issues with that, keep the videos coming, loving them!
Yeah you’ve got me thinking now..... might just pull the trigger haha, would be the pits if the alternator broke in the middle of nowhere
i hope u havent cut the firewall. Could use body lift blocks instead!!!
Hey mate, I don’t want to put a body lift on, already struggling to fit it in the garage!
It’s the cruiser a 45
Whats the ZF6 out of? Cheers
A falcon mate!
Well shit , im doing this to a shorty 40 .

Barra has plenty of torque, just use the old 4 speed gearbox less cutting
Yep that’s a good point!
This could start a new fad.......
Not sure if the purist world is ready!
Nice work mate !
Cheers Richard, top name ;)
