I'm on my third FJ 40. A new 1973, a used 1968, and a new 1978. Still have the 1978. 62,000 miles. Cosmetic upgrades and mechanicals. Loved your build thread. beautiful machine.
All, literally all about this video is just AWESOME. And with this concluding sentence at 5:39 , the video couldn't have ended better. Love the reference to the father at the beginning (1:26) and to the kids at the end (5:39)
Your stories ring true. I restored a 1980 FJ In the garage from the ground up restoration I called it my “Hobby“ nowhere near the build that you created two thumbs up to you! I agree! Pass them on to the kids so they can enjoy!!
Watched the build video of this the other day. Good to see some action shots too. One of the best builds i’ve ever seen. You just nailed every aspect of this vehicle.
Beautifully executed project ,and looks fabulous well done mate !. Regards from an old Pommy b in Blighty, slowly sinking under the weight of the mosques !.
Nice job, Lawrence! I want to do a similar project, putting a J45 cabin/bed on a Hilux chassis and combine it with a BMW inline-6 Diesel. You are giving me hope that my idea is not 100% crazy! Keep up the good work and greetings from Brazil.
Brazil has the benefit of the Bandeirantes and the dual cab that we would love here in Australia and no your not crazy. You should see the 4 door 40 series wagon I'm building, thats crazy.
Yes Toyota made a dual cab in Brazil, but only about a 1000 were built in 2001, therefore extremely rare and too costly to be chopped up for projects. Also, these have an awfully long wheelbase, the proportions don´t seem right. I think it´s better to build a custom dual cab cabin, with a (short) pick-up bed. Very curious to see your 40 wagon, please share your sketches/pictures.
@@daviddelambert2752 I will have to find a crashed BMW X5 SUV (Diesel) and take it apart for the drivetrain and electronics. Only BMW diesel ever sold in my region is the B57... currently looking for such a car at auction. I think reliability is not an issue anymore on the newer engines. The tough part is getting the engine to work outside of its known environment.
@@felixspiess I made a facebook page for it as I got sick and tired of posting it in different places. facebook.com/4-Door-40-Series-Landcruiser-Project-580157205499474/
its not too bad. can get mounting kits for them now and that makes it a lot easier. if you are on facebook check out 80 chassis 40 owners page. all the info is there.
A Four eighty. Beautiful. Is that engine completely mechanical as you stated, not to difficult on the wiring side? I really want a 4.2 six for my poor old 2.4 Prado 70. I am the same, as in, I want simply reliability that I can fix myself. But I also want the best I can get.
yep. very little electrical things in a 1HD-FT. Only wire will be to the starter and another to the fuel solenoid to switch the thing off. Its like a good old 350 chev for wiring.
@@itsfromlawrence Thanks for getting back to me, that sounds like my kind of wiring ! My 2.4 is an EFi so the wires are all there. Once again beautiful engine. It comes from an era of Toyota which will be known as their finest hour

@@handyman7297 Yes, very good
Miss my 40 short wheel base. First car I ever owned, day I bought it at age 18, drove from Melbourne to Fraser island. Such good times.
What a pleasure watching and listening to a an Aussie doing this instead of all the 'good ol USA' bragging videos.

are you thinking the BMW M51? or is there a more reliable BMW Diesel
