Nick van exel was hella underrated. Always appreciated his play
For real, once he had it going he didn't stop.
My Favorite player of all time. Most underrated guard.
You don’t hear people say that to offen
One of my favorite players of the 90s. Didn’t matter who was defending him; Jordan, Pippen, Payton..... one of the most confident players ever.
💯✅
Most players dribble the ball in front, don't protect it, over dribble and have a pattern. Nick was the opposite of other players. He dribbled with is back or shielded the defender with his body, never really picked up or stopped dribbling the ball. He was a stop and go jerky player that kept everyone off balance. Simply put, he was almost unstoppable to guard by anyone.
When he caught fire, there was very little anyone on planet Earth could do about it.
I remember how he saved Dallas against Portland, Dallas up 3-0 and almost lost that series, but Nick showed up big for them, he was no punk!!
One of my favorite players growing up! I remember him, Eddie Jones and Vlade Divac with the Lakers.
Then had Kobe & Shaq ....crazy how he didn’t win a title with them 2 plus Jones
I forgot all about him shooting 3foot behind the free throw line 😂😂😂
.....
.....
stephen curry of free throws.curry range in the charity stripe.
I forgot about that too but when did he start doing that? Almost positive he did not do that at Cincinnati for Huggy Bear. He would have lost his mind if Nic "The Quick" did some shit like that.
Steph Curry can't do that lol😂
Happy Birthday to Nickey Maxwell Van Exel.11-27-71.Wisconsin
Everybody talking about White Chocolate for being a flashy but this guy is a real deal too.
Nick was a farrr better player jwill just had more flash
akeem Brown facts bro J Will is overrated
Because JWill copied NVE style
Nick the Quick! I was so sad when he left the Lakers :(
Nick van exel was dude, I hope plays in the big 3 some day
Jay Lee he's a coach which means he's making more money.
@@andresmartinez8439 ok idk that but yes I'll take the 💰 tho
cant agree more, but maybe he is overweight now
The man was amazing on the court. I loved how he used to wear his jersey like a cape when he was on the bench
if 2k had him shooting free throws like that i would get it
King Demetrius FACTS!! Idk why they gave him Shawn Marion's free throw wtf...
Being a left handed PG growing up I tried to imitate alot of Van Exel’s play. He was my fave player back then. He was streaky as a shooter but he had a good all around game that he utilized very well. He was also very clutch and was a go to guy in close games. Miss watching him play he was so entertaining
He had an amazing ability to hit awkward shots when it mattered.
My mans right here one of the most underrated. Top 10 or even top 20 PG all time? Nah. But the dude had some legit great runs and games and was a valuable piece. I think even the new fans should brush up on Nick Van Exel.
I don't like that top 10-12 PG comment. How are you judging this by stats or skills? You do realize he was among top 10 in the 90's and top 3 in the early 2000 with Nuggets right??
He’s the reason why I wore knee high socks and flipped my shorts band inside out! Growing up in Denver he was my hero!
I love these types of performances
Imagine this dude plays in the modern NBA. He would definitely get them 💰💰💰
Van Exel is relaxed and you can tell he loves competimg with confidence when he shoots.
2:41 I whip it with the left, nick van exel
Dirk had 25, Nash had 31, but Nick had 40? damn, just finished watching Nash and Dirk's highlights of this game.
Great upload by HOH !!
My Mavs were lit that year!!!
Man Nick The Quick was very slept on he is a huge part of the reason that Dallas won this series might of been a more dangerous 6th man than he EVER was a starter
Mr Q Ceaz
He went bonkers as a sub for the mavs this is true but I saw him live as a Laker. He had all the same tools but he wasn't asked to be the Vinnie Johnson like spark plug off the bench. Rather he was asked to be the conductor of the offense. He was literally one of the best I ever saw. And he was just as clutch.
Watch his 360 3pt from almost half court and when he shut down the Boston garden in 95
Great upload. Young Cats don't know about him
Prime Hoops real talk
Prime Hoops same really great upload , with the Dallas 3 of Finley Nash and Dirk , Van Exel off the bench was huge for them .. I remember when he was on the LA Lakers during those early SHAQ Kobe years
Nick was a beast!
But I do
My favorite PG and nobody couldn't tell otherwise about NVE
Nick Van Exel looked like a superstar one day then a bench warmer the next.. so streaky..
Legit the most underrated pg in nba history.
Ye
Rod Strickland?
Nick@Nite!!!!
Underrated, one of my favorite all time Mavs
one of the best shooting forms
Im just here to see him shoot the free throws xD
NVE vs Bobby Jackson....two amazing 6th man talents
NVE is by far more talented
NVE had star power talent wise and an all-star
He had 40 of their 141 off the bench... I'd love to hear how he felt about coming off the bench for steve nash... i understand he got a lot of run (ESPECIALLY off the ball), but just curious about the mindset of a ball dominant guy (i.e. Melo) having to adjust. Nick "seemed" to thrive, while AI couldn't adapt. Is there an article or video of him discussing his time as a mav?
That would be a really deep dig to find all these years later, but I agree it would interesting hearing his perspective on that subject that seems to be a recurring theme in the league
dosgemelos
This is all I could find. Both sides seemed happy about the arrangement.

He talks about it on the latest episode of the Knuckleheads podcast
The only player I tell my kid about
Best post up player on Dallas 2003 season. Also Dallas has great 6th man who could also start from 2002 to like 2012. Van exel Jamison stackhouse terry
One of the best
maybe he has the best percentage ever in the foul line.he is amazing.
who else here from brick van exel off of Boldy James' project
Real one
Before Jason Terry there was Nick Van Exel
JT looked up to NVE. Hence JT jersey number and the headband
I dont even know this guy,pls update more this kind of stuff!
Willsen Junior
Here you go. This is against Jordan n the 90s Bulls. He torched them.

Still my favorite player
Even though Nick was obviously a really good starting point guard in his Laker days, to me, I believe his ideal role was executed here in Dallas, as a 6th man instant scoring force off the bench. He was the Lou Williams for this Dallas team during his stretch there. The case could be made that he was the 3rd most valuable player on this team behind Dirk and Nash and slightly ahead of Finley.
What about the Jet?
Imagine a lineup that features Nick Van Exel, Nash, Finley and Dirk in today's YMCA 3-ball NBA.
Very skill dribbler shooter & passing around great point god
NICKIE!!!
He couldn’t miss in this series man my kings really blew it tho
Nick the Quick was a monster
He was past his prime when he did this. 🔥 🔥 🔥
Iconic long socks~
Man missing those early 2000's mavs and kings. Both teams were stacked from 1 to 5. Too bad the league favored L.A at that time, rigging games in order for that fake show to win the title.
40 off the bench in the playoffs is crazy.
One if not the best at 3's Van Axel
Nick was an assassin. He was as clutch as anybody in the NBA at that time.
Van Exel = UNDERRATED
Look at 2:33 why was he so far from the freethrow line?
Elijah Blyden LMAO yeah dude. This mans like JR Smith, gotta make every shot tougher than it needs to be.
@@PM-qb6hj 😂😂
Van Exel said he shoots better from distance
curry range from the charity stripe.
Van exel says it's comfortable shooting a little back than some normal people.
My first favorite player nikthequick.
When ever Nash and Van Exel play together, I remember the Mavs were always in good hands
He's shooting from far
Nick was clutch
As a D lo fan, I saw a comment of someone comparing him to D lo. I would love if D lo could be similar to Van Excel and have success with a more disciplined role. Excel was more athletic and didn't get to see his best years, but still see the talent and skill with both players.
If D lo could be more aggressive and use his passing more, he could be a less athletic but shooting version of Van Excel. he probably has to be a sixth man in his career, but I would love if he continues to be a solid starting PG on some playoff teams and be a bit better than Van Excel.
Yeah I was a big fan of D’Lo and saw that same comparison...was hoping we got D’Lo back, he could’ve been great with AD & Bron bc Dlo is more of a 3rd opt guy. Sorta like Nick is even tho Nick was a great scorer
I didn't know Steve francis was left handed
Dallas got extremely lucky that Chris Webber went down in this series.
Kings stomped Dallas in the 2002 playoffs, and the 2004 playoffs with Webber.
This series went the full 7 games.....
meh
Webber never guarded a shooting guard in his entire life.
man... steve nash, nowi, van exel, finley, whatever happened? they could have won it all
SOLID CAREER
In this era, who is willing to shoot the FT away 2-3 feet from the line?
Seem originally comfortable for him
He’d shoot his free throws so far!
Nasty..
Theres no point guard who can palm the ball like van exel.
Weezer86 Rift Rajon Rondo
Very big hand
magic
Who’s here from listening to Boldy James- Brick Van Exel
I remember playing with this team on 2k n i would always pick dallas with finley as well n i think nash was there with vsn exel at some point
And dirk
If this Dallas team with Nash finley nick dirk was coach by d'antoni they probably average 130 to 140pts
if dirk didnt get injured in the next round against the spurs the mavs win the 03 title I believe ... does anyone else agree or disagree ... not discrediting duncans amazing run and win either.
Totally agree. And with Nick's flair for clutch and the dramatic, he might have won finals MVP.
nah this dallas was great but lack defense they where like the 05 phoenix
Nice🏀🏃♂️
Imagine him playing in today's NBA where you can't touch anyone
Dang
TIGHTEN UP THE TRACKSUITS TIGHT
Still scratch my head at his free throws 🤦🏾♂️
He says shooting farther out is comfortable for him as he said he likes to shoot more ranged.
He was wearing J Will out 👀
Brick Van Excel
Haha yeah right, jealous hater.
@@johnnegrete3944 it's a song John.
dallas in the 2000's built diffrent
I think Kyree plays like Nick the Quick!
When's the last time did the Kings make the playoffs? Just curious
2006
D'angelo Russell = Nick Van Exel
Under-rated
2019?
Y'all peep where he shoots his free throws? My nigga don't like it too easy
Why is his shooting form in 2k very different in here?
This man looks like d wad but play like kyrie (or better)
Wouldn’t even call it free throw when he shoot it at that range lmfao he was the sh*t tho even when he was with Kobe and Shaq, he did his sh*t.
Brick Van Exel
Nick van excel was for the mavs in 03 like Jason terry was for the mavs in 10
Jason Terry before Jason Terry (in Dallas)
His FT%?? He shoots 2 steps behind FT line
Better than Westbrick...
Van Exel showboating , shooting freethrows way behind the free throw line 4:06
He’s distant shooter it felt more comfortable for him he said
Everytime I met up with the plug felt like a set up lil cuz facin letters just told him keep his head up
Boldy James x Jay Versace
Webber tore his ACL game 2 and the rest was history. If that didn’t happen this game wouldn’t matter because we would have destroyed them 4-1 or 4-2, then we woulda took out the Lakers unless they cheated again like they did in 2002. The End.
shabazz360 happens man if dirk didn’t get injured in wcf woulda beat the spurs and nets that year
@@darktemplaroo2634 you remember !!!!! YES thank you I'm not nuts lol
I love when people use the word "we" when referring to their favorite team. Like they suited up.
Recorded this sht on a razor no cap
