thanks Cindy, I appreciate it. mike
I very much enjoy the tunes and the tips, thanks for sharing.
Thanks Edward, mike
Amazing dry stone wall, the others too, with white shells and red bits of brick bringing a joyful note into the grey stone wall. Lime used to be the cementing ingredient for centuries before concrete was invented. It's a wonderful material.
I agree, thanks Mike
Background music? Getting fancy...great video!
Thanks, I woke up 2 oclock in the morning and plugged the guitar into Garage band and boom, another song. lol, thanks mike
@@MikeHaduck that sounds great man! glad the muses woke ya up to make it happen.
SUPER COOL - can't believe that gentleman is 78. Just great stuff.
hi richrudd, he was a very impressive person. you have to give him a lot of credit for sure, we all learn from guys like that, a great role model ,,,, thanks mike
Amazing work of art
Thanks Vincent, Mike
Super interesting. Great interview with Glen Speer. More!
Hi Joanne, I was lucky to get it for sure, thanks mike
Thanks Mike. I love all your videos abroad! It let's us see the beauty of places we may never get to go! I can't get over the fact they use cisterns for water! I'm very blessed to have a creek run Right beside my house! When I was in Nassau the locals couldn't believe I have fresh water on my land! We are very blessed in America!
Hi jacqueline, it is true, everybody lives in a way for sure, God bless America, mike
another fascinating educational video. absolutely stunning display of craftsmanship that is long lasting and gorgeous to look at.
Thanks Thor, it's good to look at what others do, mike
@@MikeHaduck true, and you always encourage that in all of your videos ... you also describe methods very well and point out how many climate areas use different materials. And you also share how you admire qualities of other methods
Mike you're the best!
Thanks, mike
Awesome video, I'm a stone mason in Alabama. Beautiful stone work. Watched your vids on how to lay block. Very educational. Thanks
Thanks Will, I appreciate it, Mike
Love this video. Thank you Mike!
thanks phu, I appreciate it. mike
Another great vid Mike I really enjoy them. The notched timber over the old doorway looks like and old ships timber to me.
Hi David, It could be, thanks mike
Very cool video, that stonework was beautiful, love the arched windows and towers used in old castles and cathedrals. Gonna move to the south and find masonry work since it's still practiced more commonly down there, and maybe one day (God willing) I'm gonna build myself a Victorian style brick, stone and concrete home. Thank you for your content, it's very difficult to find good masonry information specially here in America where it really is a dying trade. I'm on the west coast (Oregon) and honestly don't think I've seen any masonry job listings or brick homes at all. The only brick building left are the ones downtown built by the original settlers. Keep up the great work and content.
Thanks Sushi, yep it's true, it's a fast dying trade, I never met a rich mason, but it's good to know something of the trade, thanks Mike
Great video. My wife and I love St John. We got married there at Caneel Bay and had our reception in some of the old sugar mill ruins.
Thanks Christopher, that is a neat thing, mike
Very nice. Thank you for making this
Thanks Adrienne, I appreciate it, mike
what a treat to see that stonework, thankls for posting.
Mike, what a beautiful place. Thanks for sharing.
Hi PFont, thanks I appreciate it.. mike
Mike, that stone work is beautiful....I could look at that for days and do it again tomorrow....and it appears that many of the buildings are of masonry/stone construction!
The "dry stack".... very well fitted stone wall, that Mr. Speer and his co-worker built is very easy on the eyes, a superb job!
Thanks for showing some of the island's different style of stone work!
St. John looks like a place I need to visit , awesome countryside!
Thanks for the shared video.
....13
Hi 13, yep Glen Speer is mighty impressive person,,,and you are right about that dry looking stack, lots of time to do that, thanks again mike
Great vid as usual. Reggae Mike is a great touch. Cheers to skinny legs
thanks allthings,,, Yep,,something different, thanks mike
Outstanding view point on stone work.
thanks Richard, I was lucky to get to do an interview with Glen, and some good scenery. thanks mike
Good morning Mike, Hope all is well with you. Thanks so much for getting back with me! Here where I live in Tri cities near Bristol motor speedway I've only saw a few rock houses. We have the school house and a rock church and I see some old stone dairy's with the old farmhouse long gone here in Shady. If I was younger I'd use these millions of stone I have on my land to build me a small castle! That house in haven is beautiful but I bet its very cold! Ive stayed in a rock house in the winter time and it was the coldest house I've ever stayed in! I don't why it was. Have a blessed Day! Jac
Hi Jac, been throught that way on 81 going to Nashville and Florida, nice area, you got to give up stone houses and buy a sailboat, then call me, lol, mike
I don't know how I missed this video, you are a masterful mason, but this video displayed some cool journalism skills too. Awesome channel, you helped me tremendously.
Thanks DIYman, mike
Wow that’s awesome work. The local guys hold all the secrets. That was cool you interviewed that guy. This video makes me want to go build some stone walls. Thanks Mike!!!!
Vic
Hi Vic, yep the guy was inspiring for sure, thanks mike
Enjoy your videos. I do cement work on my 250 year old field stone basement in the Adirondacks of New York. Glad you and your family had a good time together.

Hi Rocco, I wish I was there for the winters, mike
Fine historical, architectural, chemical perspective. Keep up the "preaching". Thanks.....again
Thanks again, Mike
Thanks for another great video Mike. Very interesting and informative. I also like your style--no lectures, just the facts. I hope my work is still standing after 200 years!
thanks Gord, I appreciate it. mike
I can definitely appreciate this video mike. Nice stone corners and edges . I like what used to be a windmill in beginning of vid. (How the stone cones up)
HI Philip, I agree, I also really like what Glen did over all those years, thanks mike
A man of many talents 😎
Thanks Joshua, mike
Wow...awesome video of the island and mason work. I loved your easy listening reggae mike also!! We've been there, and other islands , and went snorkeling, on a tall ship windjammer cruise back in 2005. Unfortunately Windjammer went out of business. But you brought back many wonderful memories. Thanks Mike!!
thanks tlims, I was on one of those also back in early 90s. I love the islands, thanks mike
Excellent video and fantastic stone walls there.
Coming from a tropical island, I would love to see more modern techniques for stone/block house construction.
thanks nieze, I keep it all in mind, I appreciate it. mike
Very cool Mike! Thanks for sharing.
thanks Nefer, I appreciate it. mike
That was a beautiful place Mike and as always educational. I have to say your brother had the right idea with the beverage and treasure hunt lol. No wonder I couldn't find any new videos you were on vacation .. Enjoy and stay safe and God bless you all myfriend.
Hi Mc Griggs, actually it was 4 months ago, just could not put it on during summer, I got to make some folks jealous, lol, thanks mike
Yah mon we be jammin'! I was just in Bermuda and saw a lot of old structures(and fish) similar to these.. Cool video and nice dr. pepper find at the end lol

Good interview, Mike. Mr Speer is a master. That stone work @ 08:13 is astounding.
hi Mrdead, he is a great role model and quite an impressive person for sure, thanks mike
Hi again Mike. I was wanting to know if you have any videos of stone work in Spain or Scotland? I have ancestry from both Spain and Scotland and also Germany and would love to see how those places laid stone and how they did the foundations. Thanks so much!
Hi Jac, lets go, I want to do conway castle in whales, England, first, was in spain and Germany but way before youtube, so I got to go back again, thanks mike
Is there really anything else to do, than to applaud Mr Haduck?
As always, yet another informative and good video.
Don't forget to wear suncreen, and by all means produce some more reggae music.
Best regards from your Norwegian fan.
Thanks Richard, I appreciate it. mike
Hi Mike that was awesome! Glad you got to enjoy yourself. As you know I intend to anchor my boat in one of those bays as well. I got it...Don't need to spend a lot...Buy a sailboat and come along!! SV DIJAN John (always welcome as crew!)
Hi John, nice to see you got another video out, let me know if we get some warm weather I shoot down for a day, If it was not for my Dad I would be heading south already, mike
I can't stop watching your videos. Thanks again. 1 question though, if steel is so bad for walls, why do they force us to use it?
Hi BJ, my guess is they write the code books in call where they have the earthquakes, and like most things they build it's only designed for 35 years more or less, thanks Mike
@@MikeHaduck Thanks for the logical response. I finally spoke to a movie star, or youtube star, it feels the same to me. Have a great day.
Hi Mike I am a member of old house dreams and this morning's email is a stone farm house I thought you might want to look at. Its beautiful! Its at 1788 York Haven Pa. Google it and let me know about what you think of it. It says its from circa 1700 wow! You must be surrounded by old stone houses!
Hi Jacqueling, I looked at that, lots of work to rehab those kind of houses lots of them along the Delaware river in PA and NJ. you should have a lot in TN, went to facebook but could not find you, I rarely go on facebook can't keep up with youtube. lol, thanks mike

First time i saw this video, great footage Mike, love the descriptions of the different style of walls, and the beautiful diving footage and even your brother with the metal detector haha, Did you use a Go pro?, thanks for another great video.
Thanks Ben, it was not a go pro, But the last time we went snorkeling it got lost in the sea weed so I’ve been using a cheap version but I got to get one thanks Mike
Well I'm single and ready to go myself! Problem for me is I would have to win the lottery if I played it! Ha ha. I'm gonna have to live my dreams through your videos or find me a rich husband! Lol I was born in York Pa but don't remember much. So I also like your local videos to. We just got three inches of snow today so having a lovely evening by the wood stove!
Hi Jac, I am single too, looking for a rich wife, I really had my hopes up, don;t worry, I am playing the lottery too. lol,,, your future x husband, mike
Wow looks great. Did you feel safe on the island?
Thanks PC, very safe I appreciate it, Mike

Do you remember the name of the resort you stayed at by chance ?
Hi Nicholas, my brothers neighbors rented a house, in the upper carolinas, they are there now, I think the roof blew off in the hurricaine, I am not sure thanks mike
What's the name of the hotel your at or how did you find that place ?

Hurricane ain't gonna move most of that stuff
Hi Lance, your right, but it dose a job on the new buildings, thanks mike
Great Job Mike!
thanks lanrover, I enjoy seeing what others do thanks mike
I love the videos! I'm only about an hour south of you and you have provided many great pointers! I'm in the IT field and have an older house with a stone foundation and enjoy working on it as time allows.
that is great lanrover, my next video is fixing up the inside of an old cellar, lots of folks ask about that, glad to see it is working out for you, thanks mike
In Britain a mason who uses cement with stone is not a mason. Interesting video though
Thanks Alex, in USA cement is a general term for everything, lots of controversy on that, mike
A Sail Boat? We wish! Lol I sent a friends request on Facebook and I'm waiting! Ha Ha! We had a black bear kill a neighbors pet donkey and its on you tube under Tom sharp! Its very disturbing and I'm afraid to go outside! You can see all the video's of bear here on my place on my Facebook page. Have a good day Bean Stalk!
Reggae mike 😎
Thanks L, I do like that music, thanks mike
OK Mike now that you have a pet name for me what am I to call you? Lol I know this is a building and information site ya have here but if I ever had a good looking man that can build like you he would never be an x husband! I found you on Facebook and me and my girlfriend swooned over you! Now we are the Mike Haduck groopies! I'm soooooo sorry I'm not rich! Ha ha
Irie, irie Mike.
Hi Mr Krasker, something different, thanks mike
Irie (I'-ree): Jamaican term meaning everything's all right.
never new that, thanks mike
Greetings Why not show some respect for the African slaves and their descendants who did and continue to do stone masonary all over the Caribbean
Hi Lyasus, right now I don't know any modern slaves ,but I know they are from all races I was held by a foreign army when I was in the service ,lucky for me It was a short time, I feel for all the downtrodden in the world, keep your prayers up and thank God everyday, there is always someone who has it worse, God bless Mike
@@MikeHaduck
Greetings Mike
I lived in St John USVI in thr 80's and worked with several St. Lucian stone masons there I learned a considerable amount of knowledge about their craft from them and the lore that was taught to them by their elders We built everything from the retaining wall around Hawks Nest beach to houses works for private citizens My intention was that not seeing in contribution of those masons work there in St John seemed sad to me Be safe and well and blessed One 💘 One ❤ Iyasus
Thanks, Mike
christ you get around ha
Hi Vermillion, yep I wish I had a vid camera years ago, thanks mike
man, great vid you even make good tunes, what are you the words most interesting man, even goddam banjo videos, whats next exploring the pyramids and pharo masonry
Hi Vermilion, I do have a video on the pyramids but that was before youtube, I would like to go back again maybe, but I think you are always put where God wants you and what happens happens, I guess, lol, thanks mike
