I really hope people will read this: Its true! You cant be healthy and obese. BUT thats NOT whats Bodyshaming is! I am obese and i know thats not healthy and i dont need anyone to tell me that. And even tho i was never bullied or something, the fear of loving myself or loving a guy was so huge! I looked in the mirror and hated myself! Not only the way i looked, i hated everything about me because of that. And i think thats the main problem and thats why bodypositivty is so important. Every Human, fat, thin, small, tall etc. has the right to get loved or to love themself!

That's true! To take Miles' example, it's not necessarily about celebrating your unhealthy habits, but the fact that it's not because you were in rehab and in recovery that you cannot be loved - everyone deserves love and support

obesity is a risk factor, technically you can have a bmi of 30 and lead a long and healthy life. Some people smoke , doesn’t guarantee they’ll have COPD and lung cancer when they’re older but it is very probable that they will have at least one.

My GP said “Depression comes with obesity”. So true. I was obese for 50 years (& depressed without knowing it) now finally at a healthy weight, I am coming to terms with the depression - changing my psychological & emotional perspectives. That may take another 50 years 🤣

The health at every size movement originated from the concept that every person deserves comprehensive and respectful healthcare regardless of their size. It would have been better termed as worth at every size. I don’t know how it morphed into what it is today.

If you’re ever seen a medical school curriculum and how little it focuses on nutrition and how much it focuses on “healing” the body with pharmaceuticals…you’d probably stop consulting your doctor for nutrition advice unless they’re highly specialized in it. Also true what you said about obesity. You can be working toward a healthier lifestyle and still be obese on your journey and it hasn’t caught up BUT obesity and healthy can’t coexist. This was such a good video 😭

As far as "healing" and doctors, hospitals is concerned : In a German tV programme yesterday at 22.15 with the title "Wieviel Geld bringt ein Frühchen"( How much money does a preemie bring?) 45 Minutes long - brought series of examples of unnecessary 'treatments' are executed unto patients and preemies just to make bigger profits - as some branches of the hospital are not money - making. Health system in Germany - diseases are paid - n o t the successful c u r e !!!
Doctors are inmids this rotten, capitalist system and not free.
      A l l is about p r o f i t. A l l ! We are well - advised n o t to t r u s t the medical s y s t e m - as it just has MONEY on its mind.We are well - advised to take health care = p r e v e n t i o n = wellbeing into o u r hands. Means : N o t to follow like 🐑 🐑 🐑 🐑 🐑 🐑 🐑 🐑 🐑 🐑 🐑 🐑 🐑 🐑 🐑 🐑 🐑 🐑 🐑 🐑 🐑 🐑 🐑 🐑 to 😀😀😀😀😀😀 "health" advisers from pharmaceutical enterprises and the ministery influenced by them - which then influences/ advises d o c t o r s......
If we do not read in PubMed - which is a l s o a reflection of pharmaceutical 'influence'= bribery and "conclusions" often do NOT sum up the real outcome which was described some pages above - we can be cheated easily. Example : Honest studies about Vit.D3 ( at least 2000 I.U.daily all year, better 4000 - 5000) and influenced ones with 800 I.U. and the "result" 😀 😃🙂🙃 "vit.D3 plays n o role in immune system strengthening "

Thank you for this video. I’m a late 40’s middle age female who paid a vegan online influencer 6 years ago for ED recovery coaching. He had written an E-book and couldn’t stop boasting of how he recovered on his own. I had gone through my whole life seeing professionals, inpatient/ outpatient programs, one on one CBT but never could make any progress. I though I would try something different. I quickly realized within one session with this person that he did not know what he was talking about. Although he claimed to have suffered from an eating disorder for a few months, he was never actually diagnosed and yet still found himself qualified to give advice to people who seriously suffered for decades with this disorder. I was quite naive and this was the biggest waste of my $600 ever. He bought himself a drone with the money he made from me, that and lots of beer and cannabis.

a topic that needs to be more highly spoken about among obese individuals as well as thinner people who eat just as badly as an obese person. obese on the inside, thin on the outside. i have friends who are thin and eat some of the most unhealthy foods daily, and i’ll mention how i want to stay away from certain eating habits and they push this toxic positive mindset of “oh, eat whatever you want” when it just does not work that way, for anyone, really. i feel bad watching all of my thinner friends eat so badly and wonder why they’re so short on energy and have other issues within their bodies.

I went to my doctor of whom I respected very much due to the fact, I knew him. But when I went to see him with high cholesterol and high blood pressure his only position was pills. I asked him about trying nutrition first, but he said it won't work you have family history, and you need to take pills for the rest of your life. I said no I'll try nutrition first went home and studied my arse off changed to a whole food plant-based diet; went back to see him just 1 month later and both Cholesterol and blood pressure were back in the normal range. He asked what i did and I told him, and he said nope must be a mistake with the tests and so he sent me back for more tests each time it came back a bit lower. (3 times he sent me back) He still refuses to except it even after 12 years on this diet, and it is still in the normal range. I am the only one in my family that doesn't suffer from high cholesterol, high blood pressure go figure. LOL my family doesn't believe me either, they all believe I secretly take pills...

As a doc's daughter (and someone who originally went to med school for surgery), it will be eternally infuriating how ppl go to their regular doc for nutrition. At least here in America, most docs have not taken more than a few nutrition classes. I actually took more in my undergrad than I did during med school. The first time I went to my current doc, when I told her I was vegan, she immediately wanted me to take a blood test to check various levels. After the results came in, she said she that I had the highest b12 levels she had ever seen. YEAH, like, it's because I educate myself.

Miles thank you so much for speaking so openly, honestly & being respectful of how important it is to be aware of ourselves & our health on every level! The only person who can make a big difference in our lives first is us. As long as we follow the basics & eat well know sometimes it’s ok to have a meal that may not be the healthiest but as long as we stay healthy though it’s all part of being human & being great with ourselves because; instead of outside validation we learn to love ourselves & we all need that to take care of our fitness, finding rest, finding what makes us happy & always having a goal to do the best we can. Then don’t give in to the negativity or pressure out there. Easier said than done I know but keep going we’ve all got this & I promise it’s beyond worth it to know we’re human & doing our best as long as we keep the perspective of making things simple & doing what we have to do for us, not what someone says. I love the message in your video on everything!!! We just need to work on ourselves daily/find peace with ourselves & I don’t want other’s to be depressed either keep going!! We’re all worth it to find our health & happiness outside of what the world’s saying & exactly! Some people’s comments on what you should do are toxic - don’t follow that advice follow what you know in your heart works for you! 🙏🏻💯💖💕

Hi Healthy Crazy Cool, I've been struggling with my weight and BED since I was in 5th grade (when I first started being bullied for being chubby).
Since then I've been very skinny and very very big. Right now I'm getting closer to my heaviest weight, and I know that I'm so close to having a heart attack or dying if I keep going this route.
I don't feel good. I love myself and try my hardest to work with what I have now. But I also know that something needs to change.
I've tried so many things, but my hardest thing is consistency. I can't stay on track for the life of me. I try my hardest to start things like at home workouts, keto, intermittent fasting, meal prep. But after a week or less, I end up being discouraged or just lose sight of why I'm doing this. I don't see big changes or some external stressor comes in to derail my progress because I can't focus on myself (or won't).
I'm only 5'1 and 200 pounds. I'm having issues with pain in my chest, lower belly fat, and I don't recognize my face in photos.
Any advice would be super appreciated. I know most of it will be obvious like "CICO " but I have to ask in hopes I'll read something that will light a fire under me.

I like to give myself as an example-the moment, the very moment I get toward the upper limit of the healthy weight range/overweight range, my blood pressure goes crazy and my cholesterol usually follows. This is true no matter my diet, exercise, etc. This correlates directly with my weight. It is impossible for me to be healthy at any size, I need to maintain my healthy weight. Been this way my whole life, but finally took control of the situation in my mid 20’s.

I agree with this entire video and wish more people would have the guts to speak openly about such topics. Thank you for your honesty and authenticity!
In regards to the body positivity movement, I believe obesity is a physical and mental health issue. Unfortunately, the body positivity/fat acceptance movement focuses so much on the physical aspect but there’s little discussion about the root which stems from one’s mental health. Shame is often underlying for many people who are obese and the behaviors they engage in (like emotional eating) are maladaptive coping skills to suppress shame and other negative emotions. Further, the cycle of shame and those emotions thrive because individuals continue to feel bad about themselves and then cope the same way and literally feed the problem. Thus, the body positivity movement initially seemed promising because addressing shame is pivotal and can shift people into a headspace of liking themselves and eventually- genuinely beginning to care about their body in a health manner. I’ve heard many stories where people come into this movement, begin to feel better about themselves and ironically end up starting to care for their health. Unfortunately, the majority of the movement remains at a surface level and lacks dialogue about the mental health aspect. Instead, it’s a community full of people who have been unhappy about themselves/their bodies and aren’t mentally healthy but can post a cute “bo-po” picture and have others approval to make them feel better. Additionally, they stay in that community because they have felt ostracized or victimized in other spaces due to their appearance and finally found a place where they are accepted. People who are happy don’t knowingly treat their bodies horribly and subject themselves to proven health risks that worsen their quality of life or shorten their lifespan. The body positivity movement needs to move beyond cute outfits and feeling good about their ig posts. Like you said, if someone had a substance addiction and there was many people applauding their appearance despite knowing the person is immensely thin due to their addiction, that wouldn’t be acceptable. One can abuse any substance and food is a common one which is ignored. Without further dialogue surrounding mental health, the body positivity movement continues to figuratively and literally feed itself crap.
As a side note, I say this all as someone who fell into this movement and “drank the kool-aid”. I focused on the fact that I didn’t have health issues and believed you could be healthy at mostly any size. After beginning to work on my mental health, I became aware of my unhealthy food behaviors and how I coped with emotions through that. After being overweight since elementary school (I’m 25 now), I finally came out of denial and knew I’d be lying to myself about the reality of my health and weight. Further, I did have health issues but as someone who suffered childhood and domestic abuse and has a degree in Psychology, I explained my issues away as trauma manifesting in the body. Once I faced the truth, the ways I lied to myself to give into my food addiction started to unravel. I’m down 40 lbs (220 lbs currently) and continue to realize how deeply my mental health and weight are tied together. People say that losing weight and taking care of your body is mentally difficult but there’s reasons why it’s so difficult for some people. Such a journey is mentally exhausting because you’re not longer utilizing unhealthy coping skills and engaging in addictive behaviors. Addictions and similar issues like to mask themselves and camouflage as something else. In order to address a problem, there must first be acknowledgment that one exists. Then, in order to tackle it head on people need to approach their mental health differently and develop awareness and new coping skills. Sadly, the body positivity movement will continue to create a space for addictive behaviors to thrive until mental health is addressed. People can’t help themselves if they don’t see a problem and they can’t succeed in overcoming their issues without the proper tools.

She told me to read up on the portfolio approach to eating and I thought that was appropriate for my needs and the fact that I’m vegan….honestly, I went to a naturopath who told me to eat fish. Yes, everything you said is true. I also noticed that because apparently in western society overweight people get normalised, skinny people get attacked more including myself. People comment on pics and vids of celebrities "you are too skinny, get help" etc when it is obvious that the celebrity is not too skinny just healthy/fit. People tell skinny people they have eating disorders even if the BMI says they have a normal weight. It's insane. So basically fatshaming in our society is not ok but skinnyshaming is. Being overweight and obese is obviously not healthy, often this includes heavy consumption of animal products leading to chronic disease and heart attack/death like in my family. Most doctors have zero nutrition knowledge or even promote animal products for b12, iron and calcium because they don't know plant based sources. And rather than looking for the cause of these illnesses (food/lifestyle) they rather prescribe a ton of medication (big pharma says thanks) and offer/sell heart surgeries etc. I also noticed so many wannabe life coaches on Insta/TikTok, disgusting.

I saw a comment on one of my favourite yoga instructor's videos recently calling her irresponsible for NOT telling people to consult their doctor before exercise. I'm sorry?? Exercise, moving the body, is a key part of being a human is it not? Maybe that not being a norm for everyone is a big problem. Babies do yoga in the fucking womb. Kids naturally find ways to move. But adults want some sort of authority figure to daddy them and give permission? It's screwed up. Especially when that "authority" figure is misinformed about so so so much.

He gave me the same protocol he gave everyone else. He didn't ask my age or any other questions the would help treat me. Ofc being obese is not healthy, and who thinks otherwise simply don't understand what means being healthy BUT I've never seen in my life so much hate on glorifying other unhealthy habits as being obese. People drink alcohol every week until they pass out, smoke 20 cigs a day, don't eat nutricious and balanced meals and are, yes, glorified just by having a "beautiful" standard body. They go to the doctor, say "yes, I do smoke and drink regularly" and the doctor just says "well, stop". Simple as that.

Those "consult your doctor before ..." are so disingenuous and silly. I always laugh when someone says that because we all know it's a feeble way to cover their butt. So many doctors still believe diet is unrelated to heart disease, etc.

I love these kinds of videos & respectful discussions that follow. Good for you Miles!
Question about the 'you can't be obese & healthy' statement: what metrics are you using to determine 'obese'?
If it's BMI, do you think the outliers such as very muscular athletes who fall into that category are unhealthy? Or are you talking obese to mean high body fat %?
Also, yes, obesity undoubtedly raises the risk of chronic disease but let's say you are obese and haven't yet contracted any yet. Technically you're obese & healthy, currently.
EDIT: you've just made that point in the video :)
So now I understand your position, would you also say someone who drinks moderately can't be healthy?
Videos like this are refreshing & give me an opportunity to think, learn & grow. Thanks!

As someone who has changed their body composition for the better, I am happier now. More confidence. Good mood daily. More agile, quicker and lighter on my feet. Don't feel like a prisoner in my body.

I’ve struggled with weight most of my life, especially after having kids (like 50-70lbs overweight). I’m finally getting my shit together and started losing weight, but if I’m honest it’s really only for vanity and not health. I avoided going to a doctor for checkups for YEARS because I didn’t want to face reality. Imagine my shock when I did and my labs all came back perfect. My partner who has always been healthy weight and very athletic meanwhile is on meds for high cholesterol and recently diagnosed as pre diabetic. Genetics is the only explanation that makes any sense to me. He pretty much only has normal labs when following a vegan diet. That diet is also good for my weight so win win.

I’m overweight and I broke my ankle this year. I want to lose a few stone just so doing my sport is much easier and I want to be stronger. Im trying to get more active but my injury hurts and it’s hard mentally. I’m also autistic and find it hard to eat fruits and vegetables. Textures and tastes are always different and it takes a lot out of me. Do you have any advice for getting back to being active and ways i can eat more fruit and veg?

In my advice on my humble channel I tell people jumping into a vegan lifestyle to see their doctor while they transition. In the U.S most people's insurance requires them to see a general practitioner to get a referral for a nutritionist. Otherwise it is too expensive to pay out of pocket. Also, many times the general practitioner has to order the blood work, again, for insurance reasons.

I despise my body… I don’t think I’ve ever felt beautiful (I have body dysmorphia!). But I know I have it, and recognise that I have zero clue what I look like😂🤷‍♀️ I still try to treat my body with respect. I eat 80% vegan whole foods, work out / walk daily, spend time with friends, light candles, take warm showers, find time for sleep! I can’t wait for the day I see myself for how I really look!

100% agree with the obesity and health topic! Too many people are scared to speak the truth and are pressured into being inclusive - I don’t know why! It’s almost the same with the LGBTQ community and trans women being allowed to compete in women sport even though biologically they are men. If it’s a sport where biological men clearly have advantages due to muscle, hormones etc they shouldn’t be allowed to compete with biological women. And no one speaks up! Because they are scared they will offend the community(you made a video about this before).

Thanks for pointing out the fucked up online coaching Szene. I am Training to becoming a psychologist and therapist (it's all in all a 9 - 10 year training) and am astonished by the audacity of people with NO background in the mental health field doing coaching and retreats for "healing trauma" etc. But with all the respect... How is Jil any different? Her page reads "trauma integration".. Is the a mental health professional?
