That WASR is sexy AF. I like that the stock slopes down. Classic AK UF silhouette. I can’t justify spending $1000+ for an Arsenal. I’m sure they’re great guns but, I’d rather buy this WASR UF and 3000rnds of ammo.
El Terrible SoCal I’m with you on that one, they will all function the same, and you won’t have to worry about babying it, a great truck gun for sure!! And we all know , one can’t just have one ak, once you get the ak bug, you’ll have a collection lol
@@steel2234 the day of the $300 AK is far gone mein freund, also consider the current political climate. you can refinish a wasr with Rustoleum and bake it in the oven for $10, tough as nails 👊🏻
back when I got into the ak's back in 2000 these wasr-10's priced at around $249, and the SAR-1-3'S were $279, and I wasnt aware the wasr-10' featured the slant muzzle breaks due to wrong pictures used in shotgun news magazine where I discovered theseromanian rifles, so I went with the SAR-1 7.62x39mm version and had it for many years, and sold it regretably, because I moved to New York a mere 3 months prior to the Assault weapon bill that was passed prohibiting further sales of allsemi auto long guns. now I live in Georgia and have done some browsing at shops and shocked to discover these romanan rifles have skyrocketed up to $600. Gonna be a few months before I pick one up, I have to purchase a nice hand gun for home and carry first, then Im getting my first sport rifle(any nice AK variant availible) as soon aspossible before some crazy bill gets passed federally, and never selling it again.
Tha ks for this video. I've been waffling on what sort of underfolding stock to get due to the overwhelming amount of online opinions and having also only shouldered a straight, polish underfolder (but never fired). I've read that the swept down style is nice for looking down sights but since the mechanism only locks on one side it lacks rigidity for follow up shots. In any case I value your and Misha's perspectives a lot on AK matters and this video has helped. Thanks again!
I also have a wasr, firing pin broke after 700 rounds, and bolt carrier rivet fell out. Fixed everything and now I can't decide if I wanna fix the canted front sight. Over all I love it, it was my first akm. You can tell they are a good beginner rifle. Next will be a Zastava or wbp Jack, or a sweet parts kit build as long as it was professionally built...
I'm glad to have one....and will buy more later on. I love these rifles. Out of every single firearm that I have including my shot guns this is the only one to run any ammo I have ever put through it....i mean religious reliability.
One correction Misha pointed out to me... Currently NIB WASR-10s (not MSRP and emphasize NEW) have a base price of $700-$750 depending on model. Of course then you still have the furniture to consider. So, while we'd rather spend the extra $200 or $300 to get into the Arsenal range, still understand why someone with price as a paramount consideration would grab a WASR instead. Back when WASRs we're all $500-$600 and Arsenals $1100 or more, the cost jump to Arsenal was a much, much harder pill to swallow... - Jay
As a machinist, and one who understands metal wear and tear.... the WASR in a real world situation will most likely last and run longer than a "fit and finish" gun ... The initial mechanics are the exact same. The ONLY thing you are paying for in a milled receiver is the **IDEA** that it is "better" and extra weight. If they were better, I am willing to bet Klashinkov would have originally made it out of a solid piece. I understand the history of the AK, and understand it was more about what was readily available and price for materials. BUT if it were worth it, they would have made them milled and not stamped....
I got 4 of them for 379 each at good Mills Fleet Farm back in the early 2000's. I remember pissing off the dude behind the counter because i had to look at like 6 or so to find 4 decent ones with the triangle military trunion mark and straight sights. They all work great. One i made a full zhukov and the other 3 are janes.
I like the WASR and the Arsenal guns. But I don't think the arsenal is better enough to justify spending $300 extra for it. But that is just my opinion based on what I personally look for in a firearm. Finish doesn't mean much so long as it keeps the gun from rusting and the fit and finish of a WASR is still good. I would recommend the WASR over the Arsenal to a new AK owner for one simple reason. The availability of them is unpredictable. One Month you can find an SLR-107 on every website and then they seemingly fall of the face of the earth for a few months.
Love the videos fellas, I am myself a Cugir shill, but that's because I've ran my own to hell and back and was sick of all the myths and attitudes towards them
I bought the same firearm earlier this year for $700 it was brand new it was bought by a collector who never shot it and its so new I can't get the muzzle off lol its not really accurate the sights are a bit canted but its a beauty and is fine at 50-75 yards
Thank you for the very informative video on this version. The under folder has some very good advantages, my question is the stock in angled down 45 degrees, does that make it harder to see the sights? Unlike the Polish and the Yogo underfolder’s stocks which are straight
I have been going between this and the BFPU-UF Atlantic arms offers which is a original Romy military kit build using a 4150 barrel and a US receiver built by Atlantic MFG. There's not a lot of info out there on them but what is out there is very positive. Do you guy's have an experience with Atlantic MFG builds?
If any of you all had any issues installing a Magpul stock on your wasr, check out my video. Mine was a pain in the ass to install but I got it on there. I miss that gun.
I’m surprised that century would still import these, as they make their own stamped and milled? Since century been making their own I haven’t seen one Romanian AK until recently!
Heh...to me, 'pretty' and 'AK' just don't mix. :p For a while, WASRs were lacking in quality, even for a service grade AK. It was around '12 that things seemed to have gotten fixed. My '13 WASR is a dream; I couldn't be happier with it. I did put a Bonesteel/CNC sidefolder on it, and polysealed the 'balsa' handguards. I have a Romy 'dong' handguard, but keep going back to the straight handguard. I want a WARPAC-style polymer guard, as well.
I fail to see why an Arsenal AK is percieved as better. The pretty paint job that peels off when heated? Or is it the plastic furniture that's ugly as hell? (Sorry, plastic lovers). Sure, the wasr finish is utilitarian, but it sticks. The important parts; bolt, barrel, receiver are combloc quality in both, so what are you getting for the extra $400+
Dan Mac You aren't getting anything but a shitty paint job like you said. The only Arsenal I've ever considered are milled, just to have a milled. Other than that, both are foreign, chrome lined & hammer forged. Same shit but for less money. WASR all the way
I bought a Royal Tiger Imports 1972 Grade A matching parts, Romanian under folder. Can you please tell me the proper barrel to buy for it? There seem to be a lot of variants, and I do not want to waist money on trial and error. Thanks.

WHAT Arsenal? are we talking about a sam7? or are we talking about the 107 series of Arsenals? The 107's are nicknamed the "Bulgarian WASR" for a reason, as the 107 has had it's own share of problems, and really no better reliability or durability ... I sold my 107r because I got the WASR for $535 in 2017, and the SLR was 959 + shipping. Just not even REMOTELY worth the price difference
Under-folder and side-folder's were originally meant for Paratrooper's and often, they were fired from the hip. The comfort was in the durability and performance of the weapon to which they adjusted to and became proficient in it's use.
