Finally some recognition for Super Double Dragon! Best beat em up in my opinion, technical, methodical and a little slower than average. And fairly hard. Thank you!
It was the beat-up-up that most felt like an 80's martial arts flick to me. Even the occasional slowdown doesn't bother me that much when the presentation is that good. Thanks for watching!
Batman Returns (snes) is one of the very best and deserves to be on this list! And, where are "Rushing Beat", "Knights of the Round" or even "Alien Storm"?! 10)- Altered Beast 09)- Alien Storm 08)- Captain Commando 07)- Streets of Rage 2 06)- Rushing Beat (Rival Turf) 05)- Batman Returns 04)- Knights of the Round 03)- TMNT IV: Turtles in Time 02)- Golden Axe 01)- Final Fight
Not sure if it ever came out on console but Alien vs Predator was one of the absolute best beat-em-up games of that era, even besting Final Fight and Streets of Rage.
Some amazing Beat 'Em Ups of the 16 bit era were Japan exclusive Super Famicom games: Brawl Brothers, Gourmet Sentai Bara Yarou, Undercover Cops, Iron Commando, etc. Ninja Warriors looks and sounds better than most of the other 16 bit Beat 'Em Ups. And it's really fun too.
Golden axl is a great game and the dungeons and dragons arcade games are amazing games too. i still love playing streets of rage series and final fight series
Não gostei da ordem de lista, na minha opinião os melhores beat em Up 16 bits: 1. Streets of Rage 2 - Mega 2. Comix Zone - Mega 3. Paprium - Mega 4. TMNT Turles in Time - Snes 5. Xmen 2 Clone Wars - Mega 6. TMNT Hyperstone Heist - Mega 7. Golden Axe 2 - Mega 8. Streets of Rage 3 - Mega 9. Streets of Rage - Mega 10. Battletoads And Double Dragon - MD e Snes 11. Final Fight 3 - Snes 12. The Punisher - Mega 13. Golden Axe - Mega 14. Maximum Carnage - Mega/Snes 15. Marvel Super Heroes - Snes 16. Growl - Mega 17. Batman Returns - Snes 18. Captain Commando - Snes 19. Captain America and The Avengers - Mega 20. Mazin Saga - Mega Mega Drive - 15 games Snes - 7 games.
The original Streets of Rage is also excellent! I would add Alien Storm to the list too, instead of Power Rangers, which gets really tedious really fast. Power Rangers could have been a good game with more variety on enemies and moves.
I just watched this, and your top 10 fighting games. Really good videos man, absolute diamond in the rough. Especially considering they're both top 10 videos, and most countdown videos of any genre blow. Liked, and subbed.
I know there are tons of different views for the top 10 list, but I bet 90% agree that SOR2 is #1 and Turtles in Time is #2. Turtles was a near perfect arcade port, but Sega did manage to pull some magic to top it with their gem. Even nowadays, those two titles are hard to match in just sheer fun factor; outside the arcade (xmen arcade, simpsons arcade, etc).
You forgot to put SPIDER MAN: SEPARATION ANXIETY AND BARE KNUCKLE III & Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Hyper Stone Heist for the SEGA Genesis! THE BEST BEAT 'EM' UP OF THE 16-BIT GENERATION GAMING ERA!
Ahhhh, dude: Love the list, but Golden Axe II is far superior-and I don’t just say this b/c I purchased it at Toys ‘R’ Us for my 7th birthday. Really, though: GA One was great. But, just like Streets of Rage I v. Streets of Rage II, the sequel took all the greatest points and then improved upon all of it.
Some good looking titles in there that I've never played before. I would have added Batman Returns in there (toward the top), but it's your list; and a video done well. Subbed.
Haha yeah, Batman Returns is a great beat-em-up but I think I was just exposed to it a little too late. The Genesis version left a bad taste in my mouth so I missed the other console versions back then. Thanks for watching/subbing!
@@pablogutierrez7396 yeah i think it's better than turtles in time. i mean turtles in time is fun and all but your moveset is so limited, i never understood how so many people consider it the best.
Streets of Rage 2 my favourite fighting games of all time. Grown up with this and street fighter 2. Anyways this had an amazing soundtrack and the art style was great preferred it to the first game. Its a shame they don't make games like this no more.
F’ing fantastic call on #1!! It came bundled with my first ever owned system-my first Sega. And I used to literally wake up at like 5:45 AM before school just to play. I have likely played this game more than any other game ever. Amazing. Basically perfect-especially when you incorporate the music! I would argue that the Sega Avengers’ game should’ve made it. That was waaaay underrated.
After having a retropie for about a year I've noticed that Konami gets over praising with their beat em ups. I've noticed most of them get really repetitive real quick due to the lacking move set. I still love those games like Turtles and Simpsons, but unless I'm playing 4 players its repetitive real fast. Capcom was the true champ of beat em ups. Almost all their beat em ups had awesome variety of move sets. For that reason is a big factor why Super Double Dragon (actually after playing the superior Japanese version Return of the Double Dragon that takes the spot) and Streets of Rage 2 are my favorite 16 bit beat em ups. Wish we would have gotten a port of Battletoads Arcade that is one of my all time favorite beat em ups and am still shocked how many people dont know about it. Great list man!
Cool! I rented Separation Anxiety back in the day and played it all the way through. Didn't like it as much as Maximum Carnage though. Probably because I never read/wasn't as invested in the comic arc that game was based on. But most likely it was the lack of Green Jelly. (CARNAGE RULES!) Thanks for watching!
+Haruokay Both games are great! Can u recomend beat'em ups for Génesis besides the ones listed here? I have all 3 Street of Rage, 3 Golden Axe and 3 MK from the Sega Genesis plug n play.
Sure man! Comix Zone is probably the biggest one for the Genesis that never made the Top 10. Captain America and The Avengers is a little rough but alot of fun. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Hyperstone Heist is great. (Especially if you loved Turtles in Time on the SNES.) Alien Storm is part shooter but still fun. OH! And Battletoads/Double Dragon. There are also separate games for both Battletoads AND Double Dragon that are worth checking out too. (Except maybe Double Dragon 3.) Those are a few that come to mind anyways. There's alot more.
+Haruokay, I not only played this game for both the SNES AND Sega Genesis, but I also owned the red SNES cartridge AND I also beat the game. Here is how you beat Muzzoid. Regardless of yourself using Spider-Man or Venom, what you do once you get to Muzzoid is that you press up to cling to the wall, you climb to he top of the screen, then you simply drop down and kick him in the head. If Muzzoid knocks you off of the wall, you simply jump up, and, if it is necessary, use your webbing to get to the top of the room, then you simply wash, rinse, and repeat. I will also point out that the second level is good for point farming if you can do it right, namely, if you can a. avoid Shriek's sonic lightning blasts and b. avoid Doppelganger kicking you. How you farm the points is that you simply go up and down on the level, then lure Doppelganger (who can also infinitely re-spawn in certain areas of the level), and then you can kick him in the head for 8,000 points for each kick.
Great beat em up list bro really awesome !!!! Yes I also agree Double dragon on the snes was amazing. Oh yea Maximum carnage my friend has that game and beat it. he loves that title on the snes. That probably his number 1 !
Thanks so much! I don't know if I was ever more hyped for a beat-em-up game to come out than I was for Maximum Carnage. (Was a big fan of the comic too!) Thanks for watching!
Looking at this makes me feel nostalgic and sad about those care free times i was young and had a great life playing these gems. *edit. I forgot I commented on this video 3 years ago. Weird coming across this video and my own comment 😅 Well see ya in 3 more years.
Cal Diesel Peace Keepers>Brawl Brothers. In Japan they were known as Rushing Beat 3 and Rushing Beat 2 respectively. IMO Rushing Beat 3 is better than FF3 and DD4.
The Streets of Rage series is the definitive beat 'em up experience, and not just for the 16-bit era either. The only other game to come close IMO is Guardian Heroes, but that is 32-bit.
Nice to see Splatterhouse on this list. ... and Maximum Carnage has that Black Sabbath Mob Rules cover song. :D I have always loved Golden Axe. By the way your channel is awesome and i am baffled at your low popularity I really expect that to change, cuz these videos are quality. I'm serious here I really enjoy your videos. 'Battletoads & Double Dragon' on SNES is one of my personal favorites.
Wow. Thank you so much, man! That really means alot! Not gonna lie, the biggest reason BT/DD didn't make it on was probably because I totally forgot about it when putting together this list. (Though I'm still a bigger fan of Super Double Dragon.) Had considered Battlemaniacs on the SNES, too. And yes, Maximum Carnage + Green Jelly = some of the most memorable music I've ever heard in a beat-em-up. Carnage Rules!
Hi, Again, great Video. Unfortunately I never played any Splatterhouse Game. But what I heard and saw.... it looks and I am sure they are awesome Games. Nice one Andre ;-)
That's right!. Some of the best beat 'em ups where Japan exclusives: Brawl Brothers, Iron Commando, Undercover Cops, Gourmet Sentai Bara Yarou. Those games are better than some in the list.
My list will be 1 per series 1. TMNT 4: Turtles in Time 2. King of Dragons 3. Streets of Rage 2 4. Maximum Carnage 5. Final Fight 3 6. Golden Axe 3 7. Knights of the Round Table 8. Batman Returns 9. Alien Storm 10. Splatterhouse 3 Honerable Mentions: Power Rangers SNES, Punisher, Splatterhouse 3, Sonic Blast Man 2, Mazin Saga, Legend, Captain Commando, Iron Commando
Incredible games!!!. Iron Commando, Undercover Cops, Gourmet Sentai Bara Yarou were awesome too. But all this games were Japan exclusives. Not everyone know about these games
My fave 16 bit scrolling beat em ups are Sor2, tmnt 4, final fight cd, super double dragon, golden axe, double dragon 1, batman returns on snes, final fight 3 and bare knuckle 3
I noticed you used the music from Growl for this episode. Good choice, I think I only play that game for it's music. Not the best Beat Em Up out there, but catchy tunes.
I was hoping you included Final Fight 3. I played it thanks to emulators a couple of years ago (I didn't even know it existed) and was surprised by how good it was. The first one is a classic but the third is simply the best.
i'd go turtles in time for #1. and put Ninja Warriors for snes in the top 3 somewhere. Batman Returns snes needs to be in here as well. good list though
The SNES port is incomplete. I preferer the Mega-CD port of that Final Fight, you can choise anyone of the original 3 characters and the soundtrack is pretty cool in CD quality, but the SNES port is still great and solid!!!
Great list, but Streets of Rage is a better overall game than SoR2. It added a ton of features: dash, roll, alternate routes, multiple endings, and special moves. IMO, Streets of Rage 3 (or Bare Knuckle 3, if you prefer the mega drive version) is the best beat 'em up of the bit era!
It's a great tune, isn't it? Growl almost made the listbased just on the fact it gave you a freaking rocket launcher, but it was ultimately cut. Thanks for watching!
Growl on Genesis has a fantastic soundtrack but the game itself is a lazy port, it looks like a Master System game and doesn't even have co-op? wtf?! Could have been such a good game but as it is it's just mediocre.
Streets of Rage 2 and Turtles In Time were my favorite as well. The Super Nintendo and Sega Mega Drive (Genesis) were such good consoles with great exclusives. The SNES had better RPG's and probably the best exclusives while the Genesis/Mega drive had better sports games and beat um ups.Mario Kart, Road Rash 2, Sonic 2 , Chrono Trigger, Gunstar Heroes, Super Metroid, Zelda so many good games. Personally i give a slight edge to the SNES but the Genesis did seem a bit cooler and marketed towards older teenagers and young adults.
SNES has a better library of Beat em ups than the MD. Road rash... Oh men i can't believe that this games is considerer one of the best MD games... But MD Is better... Action games and anymore... MD is better Pene
Hey Haruokay, are you familiar with the Japanese version of Super Double Dragon, called Return of Double Dragon in Japan? I think you would really enjoy that game, it has an option menu on the title screen that you can select, better gameplay mechanics from certain enemys as well as how certain weapons are used (knife and boomerang), better handling of the music, and a longer final stage to make it seem.... well, final. If you haven't played it, I recommend you do because I think you will have a lot of fun with it.
Eh…I gotta balk on that one champ. Nothing beats the Adam and Eve of beat ‘em ups final fight. Double dragon comes EXTREMELY CLOSE but final fight had too much of an impact on the game world. After it dropped, EVERY SINGLE BEAT EM UP GAME was a final fight clone or somehow impacted by final fight from tmnt all the way to die hard arcade which was 3d. To this day it still is the greatest game in its genre of all time. You can take MODERN GAMES like streets of rage 4 and river city girls and shredders revenge and final fight STILL competes with these amazing games. That’s a great game that’s way ahead of its time.
there is a charm with final fight 1 that will not be matched for me. I know the two sequels had improved graphics and other cool shit...but they were easy. the first one is actually more difficult for first timers
irregular mana You know, I have always thought Final Fight was the best in the entire series. I personally think that it had the best graphics especially when considering the Sega CD and arcade versions. The other Final Fights were only on consoles I thought.
Sinn0100 yeah, the snes port was a butchered one. The cabinet had one extra level and has Guy. Final Fight one was ported to the game boy advance with the extra level and with the ability to pick Guy, that's the best version
Yeah, pretty sure Final Fight and Streets of Rage 1 deserved to be #2 and #3. Not sure why they're missing from this list; imo they, along with SoR 2, are miles ahead of every other beat em up ever made.
Love your list guys. Also it would Super nice it some one please do a mega mix hombrew beat em for the Sega cd and use both hardwares fully to its best
Woah whoah whoah sir! Number 3, Super Double Dragon- at the end you say "if you dont own/cant find a DD arcade game, this is the one to get". I beg you pardon, but have you played Double Dragon Advance? Super is good, but Advance kills it.
In my opinion the best is Final Fight 3. Also, Batman Returns, Knights of the Round, and Pirates of the Dark Water, and Captain Commando. Streets of Rage was decent, but the gameplay feels better on the games I listed. I agree with Golden Axe.
Knights of the round for SNES is my favorite
Batman Returns (snes) is one of the very best and deserves to be on this list!
And, where are "Rushing Beat", "Knights of the Round" or even "Alien Storm"?!
10)- Altered Beast
09)- Alien Storm
08)- Captain Commando
07)- Streets of Rage 2
06)- Rushing Beat (Rival Turf)
05)- Batman Returns
04)- Knights of the Round
03)- TMNT IV: Turtles in Time
02)- Golden Axe
01)- Final Fight
Thank you for putting "Super Double Dragon" on the list. Man that was awesome game. I really wish it was on the SNES mini classic.
Not sure if it ever came out on console but Alien vs Predator was one of the absolute best beat-em-up games of that era, even besting Final Fight and Streets of Rage.
Inorite Yeah never released on consoles. I wish they would release it on PSN! Great game!
turtles in time and streets of rage 2 amazing beat em ups i love playing them
there's a tmnt/streets of rage 2 hack. the best of both worlds.
Cybertron gaming Facts!
Just checked in to make sure SOR2 was #1 as it should be. Well done. Absolutely love FF3 as well. Top notch.
I miss the good old beat em up days
primetronzero gaming me too
I can't do it. Nothing beats Turtles in Time. But alot of great 16bit beat em ups. Good video!!
Scuba I loved that game
Fuck yeah, Splatterhouse 3. Remember that game as very dark and sinister plus gory as hell for that time.
Battletoads & Double Dragon: The Ultimate Team
Sor2 is my number 1 game of all time, I love the music especially the "move any mountain" sounding Baseball level.
Golden axl is a great game and the dungeons and dragons arcade games are amazing games too. i still love playing streets of rage series and final fight series
Very cool video. I like the alternate picks that people aren't constantly talking about.

#1 is SNES TMNT IV: Turtles In Time!
#2 Is Genesis Streets of Rage 2!
The two best 16bit Beat-Em'-Ups!
#1 Bare Knuckle 2
#2 Streets of rage 2
The original Streets of Rage is also excellent! I would add Alien Storm to the list too, instead of Power Rangers, which gets really tedious really fast. Power Rangers could have been a good game with more variety on enemies and moves.
Janne Väätäinen
Power Rangers has nothing on Alien Storm. I remember really hating all of the Power Ranger games.
wha! no Batman Returns for Snes
yeah that's better than half the games on this list. the death and return of superman is pretty good too.
I just watched this, and your top 10 fighting games. Really good videos man, absolute diamond in the rough. Especially considering they're both top 10 videos, and most countdown videos of any genre blow. Liked, and subbed.

Cal Diesel Peace Keepers>Brawl Brothers. In Japan they were known as Rushing Beat 3 and Rushing Beat 2 respectively. IMO Rushing Beat 3 is better than FF3 and DD4.

I like the list. I definitely was a big fan of the golden axe series but my opinion, the best was golden axe 2.
True. I agree.
Comix Zone? That game was insanely hard (for me anyway) and really original!

I noticed you used the music from Growl for this episode. Good choice, I think I only play that game for it's music. Not the best Beat Em Up out there, but catchy tunes.
Double Dragon and final fight and streets of rage and xmen arcade game teenage mutant ninja turtles man the good old days :-)
King of Dragons should be in this list !!!If you hadn't played it,try it!!It's fantastic game!!
The only worthy Final Fight was the first one. FF2 and FF3 didn't have the same climax as FF1.
The SNES port is incomplete.
I preferer the Mega-CD port of that Final Fight, you can choise anyone of the original 3 characters and the soundtrack is pretty cool in CD quality, but the SNES port is still great and solid!!!
João Paulo I actually liked FF3 better than its predecessors.

Final fight 3 and streets of rage 2 in my opinion are two of the most legendary beat em ups

Spider-Man: Separation Anxiety
BARE KNUCKLE!!!!

Great video. I prefer final fight 2 over 3 but you are right about that. Where the hell us carlos??? Dude was badass and hadn't been seen since.
I think Final Fight Guy should have made it in there somewhere, but pretty solid list!
Gr8fulDead69 nahhhh Final fight was to much capcom...
I enjoy it. Not as much as I like Final Fight 3, but it's still fun.
I think, xmen for snes is more a action plataform game than a beat n'up. I think king of dragons could be in his place.
I got to play super double Dragon 4
but... but... but... Batman Returns to the SNES? That was a great game.
that Growl music at the beginning tho...
Growl is awesome
Amazing video thinks
What kind of setup are you using for capture? Doesnt look rgb
MD is better
Pene
I admire your list.
Man i wish they would port all of these for my switch
Great list guys
But ninjawarrriors should have a mention at least
DOUBLE DRAGON NEON is the one to own.
when u say the plateau. do you mean the pinnacle... like the top. just wondering... great content btw love all the vids
So what is the first beat-Em-Up shown in the first couple seconds of the video, it just doesn't look familiar.
Happy Final Fight 3 made the list.
I discovered that version just recently. After the western one made my childhood, it was mind blowing!
@@molotovmutt3365 Nice. How did like the music on the final stage?
I used to played MMPRTM in Game Gear
This list is respected not a miss. I'd and two crude dudes in there.
Definite version of streets of rage 2 is the 3d full remake on the 3ds. Awesome n worth owning for sure.
The Battletoads saga was a wonderful beat en up. It should be in the top 5. The best double dragon was the 2. Btw you forgot Altered Beasts....
Couldn't agree more with SOR2 being #1. Best beat em up of all time
Eh…I gotta balk on that one champ.
I know the two sequels had improved graphics and other cool shit...but they were easy. the first one is actually more difficult for first timers
irregular mana
You know, I have always thought Final Fight was the best in the entire series. I personally think that it had the best graphics especially when considering the Sega CD and arcade versions. The other Final Fights were only on consoles I thought.
Sinn0100 yeah, the snes port was a butchered one. The cabinet had one extra level and has Guy. Final Fight one was ported to the game boy advance with the extra level and with the ability to pick Guy, that's the best version
irregular mana
I had no idea the GBA had it with everything included. I own it on my Xbox 360/ Xbox One arcade perfect.
Yeah, pretty sure Final Fight and Streets of Rage 1 deserved to be #2 and #3. Not sure why they're missing from this list; imo they, along with SoR 2, are miles ahead of every other beat em up ever made.
Love your list guys. Also it would Super nice it some one please do a mega mix hombrew beat em for the Sega cd and use both hardwares fully to its best
i actually passed it when i was 13. and again when i was 19... the older i get the harder it gets
Woah whoah whoah sir! Number 3, Super Double Dragon- at the end you say "if you dont own/cant find a DD arcade game, this is the one to get". I beg you pardon, but have you played Double Dragon Advance? Super is good, but Advance kills it.
When the video started I told my girl thats SOR2 would be number 1!!
Predator vs aliens was a good one
No, The Death & Return Of Superman and Aliens vs Predator.
I vouch for Batman Returns as well, it should be in anyone's list. Honorable mention: Ninja Warriors (Again)jp
Damn no battle toad?
In my opinion the best is Final Fight 3. Also, Batman Returns, Knights of the Round, and Pirates of the Dark Water, and Captain Commando. Streets of Rage was decent, but the gameplay feels better on the games I listed. I agree with Golden Axe.
Streets of Rage 2 ,#1
for sure
Try night slashers if you are into arcade beat em ups. Just have to download the rom
You missed sega megadrive turtles the hyperstone heist!
Does Street Fighter 2 technically not count as a beat em up or would it be considered just a fighting game?
Kevin Mc Auley
Fighting game. ;)
