Yeah man. When it comes to side-scrolling beat'em'ups i also prefer Streets of Rage 2/Bare Knuckle II. Everytime i want to play a game like that i always look at the likes of "Gekido: Urban Fighters", "Batman", "Final Fight", etc...........heck even the great ones like "Bucky O'Hare", "Battletoads" or "Splatterhouse" but then i look at Streets of Rage 2 and go ".................damn it. Lets play SoR2".
What was censored in SoR2? I know that SoR3 got simply butchered by Sega of America, but didn't know about anything being missing in SoR2. By the way, definitely one of my favorite 16-bit games too. A bit easy, but fun to replay for sure.
Mine is too. It's kinda surprising to me that it's not even on the list. Then again there is so much sweet games in the 16 bit era, kinda hard to squeeze em in all in top 10
@@Prizrak-hv6qk Basically for the North American version. Before ever watching this episode, I'd seen others where you guys mentioned Super Castlevania 4 and extolled is glories. I finally bought myself a copy in July and I've already played through it at least four times. What an awesome game. Thanks, Gamesack!
watching this now, explains the specific inclusions of both Castle of Illusion and Castlevania IV in the "game" version of the opening. So you've secretly told us your favorite 16 bit games of all time, a long time ago.
Happy 100th show first of all. Second, being a man in my late 30's, I feel honored that I've grown up during the golden age of gaming and you two always do a great job with your shows. Game Sack is my favorite channel for info and reviews without question. Being a fellow collector I've always find myself agreeing with your views and statements concerning classic games. I'm pro Genesis myself, but I have to agree with your top 10. I can always play Castlevania IV at the drop of a hat, it's simply amazing. As stated, as long as I have a working Genesis and SNES I'll be happy. :) please keep up the good work.
Really enjoyed this episode! That opening song remix portion was hilarious, and I'm glad you guys put a good personal touch on your lists. That's mainly what made this 'top 10' episode worth watching.
The video really shows the importance of a strong launch line-up as most of these games (SNES for sure) were released at the console's launch or in the launch window. Great job.
Big well done on this achievement guys, Game Sack is my favorite channel on RUclips. Having grown up in the same era, your fanboy observations always match my own not to mention the jovial banter. We need more misheard lyrics!
Congratulations on your 100th episode !! Im just 12 trying to learn about games and consoles from the past and you guys have been my best help choosing consoles and games for a collection iv started i cant thank you enough for being my favorite youtube channel.
Fantastic episode! Congratulations on your 100th video. With solid chemistry, a love of the medium, and enviable production values, Game Sack is one of the best video game shows on RUclips.
Love love love your videos! You guys are a little older than me but of the same generation and I can totally relate to stuff like Christmas presents, saving years of allowance and especially teaching your little daughter to play games from your childhood!
Props on including Gaires.. few games give you the feeling of constantly being on the verge of death like that one and the variety is superb.. I'm still waiting for a music remix of the underwater section. Someone get on that.
Love Super Shinobi, but for me Shadow Dancer is the true sequel to Shinobi in terms of level style, bonus stage, bosses and gameplay. I always viewed Super Shinobi as a break-off from the mainline series. Shadow Dancer is definitely in my top 5 for MegaDrive.
Awesome episode guys. I started watching Gamesack during your fifth episode and haven't missed it since. It's cool to see how your production value grew along with all the subscribers that you have now. The weekend I get payed is also the weekend you guys upload a new episode and for me that couldn't start my weekend off any better. Keep up the fantastic work fellas. I hope that you guys reach more than a million episodes and you know i'll be there to catch all of it. SEGA GENESIS FANBOY FOR LIFE!!! Party on Dave! Party on Joe!
24:05 Only an ex-projectionist would notice something like this, Joe. Ha. Sort of funny. This video is several months old, but I just wanted to say how much I really have come to enjoy you guys and your awkward style. It took me some getting used to, but Game Sack has become one of my all time favorites to unwind with at the end of the night. I grew up during the same era of Nintendo vs Sega as you two, so I really relate to your scripted little debates (even though you're both hilariously bad actors...all part of the charm). Keep up the amazing work, guys. I may not always agree with your choices in games, but I definitely enjoy listening to the goofy yet informative style you've adopted.
Oh by the way...using an FFIV track in the credits without including the game on the list? Cruel tease. Hard to see a list like this without the likes of Sonic, Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger or Super Metroid, but there are already a thousand lists online that include all those games, so kudos for being original.
Congratulations guys! You're the only RUclips channel I bother with on a regular basis. Just two guys talking about games and not being obnoxious - nothing could be better and I hope you stick around for a long time.
You said you two were going to have two more episodes. I hope that's not true because I love Game Sack. You and a few others (you, AVGN, CGR, Gamester81, etc) beat what most people consider "gaming" channels (pewdiepie, Toby games, etc). At least you two put time and effort into your videos. You two deserve 1,000,000 subscribers. But then that would ruin the small community that these channels have. Game Sack forever!
It's a fantastic game. I've beaten it lots of times but each time I play through it I grin ear to ear at it's jazzy yet moody music, colorful graphics, and responsive controls.
Get it, one of my favorites!! And who cares if it's easier than many of the other ones? That actually makes it in my book more of a joy to play. I get frustrated with some of the other ones many times!! Especially Castlevania Chronicles on PS1!!
The heck are you waiting for?! If you have a SNES, order the hell out of it. If you have a Wii, there's the shop channel. That game is too good for anyone to miss.
It took me while but I finally got into this show. IT'S GREAT! Nice production, silly yet honest writing, and really interesting content. Thanks a lot guys and keep them coming! I really like the playful fan-boy thing and the fake self-loathing. Thanks!
Truly great 100th ep of by far the best retro game show on youtube, or anywhere else for that matter! I love the way you mix it up with the subject of each episode. You never know what's coming up next. Awesome work dudes.
Holy epic intro Batman!! You guys have come a long way, not just in the number of videos but even how you produce them. Your editing always seems to be getting better, and the videos are starting to have a very distinct atmosphere to them. Keep up the great work guys. I'm looking forward to the next 100+ videos.
I've said it before and I'll say it again...can't get enough of this show! It's like comfort food, it make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. If I'm down I'll watch this show and I forget all my troubles for a bit. Thanks guys!
seriously wtf is going on here? I just came back to this video specifically JUST to watch the intro because I thought it was funny, I had no idea everyone was whining about it. Sometimes I hold my dog Bessie up in the air and I pretend to make her fly around the house singing "2 BESSIE POWER! 8 BESSIE POWER! 16 BESSIE POWER!" (true story)
6:19 Actually, Dave, there is only one boss in all of A Link to the Past where you have to use the weapon you find in the dungeon to defeat the boss--and that is the hookshot in the Swamp Palace. Sure, items like the hammer, the fire rod, and the bow and arrows work well against their respective bosses, but they aren't necessary. It wasn't until after this game where Zelda games started CONSTANTLY using that gimmick, and I think the games suffer for it. Not to channel Egoraptor from his Zelda Sequelitis, but it definitely ruins some of the mystery in the games when you KNOW that every boss you fight is going to be vulnerable to the item you just picked up.
Yeah I know what you are saying but the dungeon use the items in such clever ways it doesn’t bother me too much. The boss isn’t as important as it is in other games
Milestone episode! Congrats on 100 episodes guys. Considering the amount of content per episode, that is monumental. Really enjoyed the unique choices. Here's to many more episodes of Game Sack!
Awesome list, I won't argue with it. I'm glad to see Gaiares finally getting the recognition it deserves as the ultimate 16-bit shooter. I don't know why some people default to Thunder Force III in this respect, as I have played (and own!) both, and Gaiares simply outclasses TFIII on every level. I also agree on Castlevania 4 over Dracula X. They're both outstanding games, they both deserve a spot on this list, but Castlevania 4 is overall a superior game because along with the outstanding design and implementation it has the edge over Dracula X when it comes to atmosphere.
I own both Gaiares and TF3 as well and I have to agree, Gaiares is more challenging and is just plain better. TF3 is no slouch, though, and I have a great time with it as well. Don't forget Truxton!
Awesome long intro for #100! I actually just watched all 100 episodes over the past couple weeks, so it was funny seeing a lot of quick flashbacks of things I just recently saw. I love your sense of humor there, especially with the clips you show right when you're done talking about any given game. I catch those things and appreciate the clever thought that went into them. Keep up the great work on the show!
Happy 100th episode guys. I have been watching Game Sack Religiously with every new episode that comes along every second Sunday the minute I wake up Game Sack is the first video I watch. I really enjoyed this top 10 and would definitely agree on Super Castlevania 4 being the no 1 top spot for best 16 bit game. Here's to the next 100 episodes, I can't wait to see what you have in store for your 200th.
I don't usually bother to comment on big channels, but you guys are awesome. Loved the montage and remixed intro song. Now for the other 28 minutes....
Big Congrats on the 100th episode! As someone who's been watching from early on, I can definitely say that you guys have come a long way. Not only have your production values increased but more importantly, you clearly feel way more comfortable in front of the camera. I also really like how you embraced your awful acting skills, and your jokes have actually made me laugh quite a few times over the last couple of weeks. So I guess all I can say is, keep going the road you're going right now. I'll enjoy every minute of it. Thank you for the work you put into these things. A fan from Germany
I completely agree with your top 2! Castle of Illusion was my absolute favorite as a kid and Castlevania IV is the best! I still hope Konami is going to make another linear game similar to CIV at some point, as I don't care for the Metroidvania games at all.
Thank you for putting Revenge of Shinobi on this list! Not enough people give this game credit for being one of the best of all time, but it is absolutely deserving of that much praise. I don't know how Yuzo Koshiro was able to coax music out of this box that nobody else could. One of the best game soundtracks ever!
Funny how you praise music on the Gen but then you condescend the system as well, calling it an "inferior sound chip". The Gen chip had clear advantages over the Snes chip and the Snes had distinct advantages over the Gen, there isn't a clear winner. It isn't black and white like Snes fanboys will drive you to believe. There are things that each did better over the other. Same goes for their overall hardware capabilities as well.
I love Game Sack; catching up on a lot of the episodes I missed. It's one of my favourite channels on RUclips and has inspired me to buy a ton of games.
I thought I was the only crazy one who listened to the soundtrack from Super Castlevania IV. Some overall awesome picks for a top five for the 16 bit era.
Alien Soldier is my top 16 Bit game. It was developed by people that worked on Super Castlevania 4. They are TREASURE, of course. Alien Soldier has amazing AI enemy Bosses that, to this day, are un-paralleled.
I know I’m late as I’ve unfortunately just discovered game sack a few weeks ago and am now binging it nonstop, but Joe, wtf? No Greendog?!! Come on man!!
I really wanted to commend you guys on your videos as a newer subscriber. I've gone through and rewatched a very large chunk of your videos and even going back three years to your earliest stuff, they've always had some real quality.. I especially like how the videos seem to have gotten longer to the usually 30 minute long videos of today. These large videos really allow for lots of great games to be seen compared to other places with usually shorter videos. I'm definitely a permanent subscriber.
I remember being in Junior High and going to my friends house and seeing Revenge of Shinobi. I was BLOWN AWAY. the fact that you can listen to that music on headphones made the moment surreal. Nice list, but Super Metroid should have been there somewhere in the list. The level design, the music, presentation. It was just mind blowing. I can still hear that clean crystal clear voice telling me that the last metroid is in captivity, the galaxy is at peace. I was at ease.
I remember last year when I just got placed at a new job. I live in a small town so there aren't many costumers to deal with. So most of the time was spend't at the office with my computer watching Game Sack. I had just found out about the channel. Oh boy, that really made the time fly by. In fact, I'm sitting at work right now watching Game Sack. I love my job.
I've seen this episode for the first time now, as I don't watch them in chronological order. To answer your question: I like top 10 episodes. Keep up the good work, Joe (and Dave :-( )
I loved the list! I think maybe sticking some top ten's in every once in a while is a great way to shake things up...but I would hate to lose the normal format for the sake of just top ten lists. That being said, I would love to see Joe's top ten Master System games and Dave's top ten NES games. :)
You guys are effin' awesome! I always look forward to the next episode of game sack! Congrats on your hundredth, and here's to another 100. Keep rockin' the tube, gents!
One of the things I like about this channel is how you guys actually have a modicum of personal taste. Most lists like this would be like 1.Zelda 2.Super Metroid 3.Sonic 2 4.Chrono 5. etc and it's just boring as shit to see the same Hive Mind view expressed over and over. And whoever owns that SNES in the footage; man, that thing is pristine and gorgeous. Mine looks like I bought it from the pawn shop in Gremlins.
You can thank the hive mind perspective from fanboys like Watchmojo, James and Mike (AVGN) and other bias channels that discredit the Genesis as a whole. Both systems are timeless and incredible and any top 10 16 bit games list should have an almost even amount of games from both systems (and yes mine does). Thanks why I'm grateful for this channel, bringing diversity to the retro community. Also leadbones, "fun factor" cannot be objectively measured. That's the biggest problem with Snes vs Genesis comparison videos, we get so caught up over Lttp's and Super Metroid big "open worlds" and we use that in a manipulative attempt to "objectively" say the game is "better" than Alien Soldier or Shinobi 3 on the Genesis. When in reality, comparing games of different genres and saying one genre is better than another isn't fair and that's what *everyone* fucking does. It's bs. (I'm not saying you do this btw)
Best 16-Bit Games (1 per franchise) 5. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 4. Earthbound 3. Super Castlevania IV 2. TLoZ: A Link to the Past 1. Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island (Which is criminally undermentioned in Top 20/10/5 Lists)
Congratulations on the100th episode of the best show on youtube. I'd like to see on next episodes dave talking more about games for sega platafoms end joe talking about nintendo ones, maybe in a top ten 8-bit games. Anyway, just a sugestion, the show is awesome as it is
Intro still makes me smile 9 years later, Game Sack rules!
that's definitely their best intro ever.
100% agreed!
My favourite 16-bit game is without doubt is Bare Knuckle 2 (Streets of Rage 2) on the Genesis, I prefer the Japanese version because it isn't censored , the game has great graphics, excellent music and the replayablity is fantastic, even to this day I would call it the best fighting/beat em up game ever made!
Same here. SoR2 just has endless replay-ability to me. And it is a flawlessly executed Beat ‘em Up game. I rate it 10,000 out of 10.
Mine is too. It's kinda surprising to me that it's not even on the list. Then again there is so much sweet games in the 16 bit era, kinda hard to squeeze em in all in top 10
@@Prizrak-hv6qk Basically for the North American version. Wow people really hate the 3 minute intro. Relax guys it's their 100th episode! They're allowed to do a montage/recap of past shows. I enjoyed it.
Not sure why people are complaining anyway, I just skipped it !
Harperlarp nobody hated it. They wanted it to be longer.
@superkami guru not kidding, it's so well done!
100 likes for a 100th episode
Me too.
I watch gamesack for 5 hours a day! love it, keep it up you guys, learning so much about videogames from you guys
watching this now, explains the specific inclusions of both Castle of Illusion and Castlevania IV in the "game" version of the opening. So you've secretly told us your favorite 16 bit games of all time, a long time ago.
Good catch!
I thank you guys for your time and talents and passion.

Been rewatching game sack and i gotta say... being a fan for a few yrs now that 100 episode special intro is great! Wish wed see it again.
I loved that intro. I saved the mp3 and play it in my car or my phone all the time. Brian is a musical genius.
Its really good to see you guys hit 100 episodes, now unto 100 more!!!
Keep up the great work guys.
Congrats on 100 guys!! :D cant wait to see 100 more!
HappyConsoleGamer almost there!!
My two favorite channels cahooting with one another..awesome
My top two is Donkey Long Country and Streets of Rage 2, both games I can play through once a year and thoroughly enjoy the play through every time
Donkey Long country sounds like a Southern themed pornstar
Snes stuff like link to the past, super metriod were some of my favs from the era.

Castlevania games no matter what always deserve a spot, quite a good list indeed fellas. Happy 100 and here's to 100 more \m/
Fantastic episode! Congratulations on your 100th video. With solid chemistry, a love of the medium, and enviable production values, Game Sack is one of the best video game shows on RUclips.
Super castlevania 4 is such a great game. The music is incredible. Simons theme is my ringtone at the moment.
Love love love your videos! You guys are a little older than me but of the same generation and I can totally relate to stuff like Christmas presents, saving years of allowance and especially teaching your little daughter to play games from your childhood!
happy 100 episodes dudes. loved the long intro. great list too. party on indeed.
Well done on 100 episodes guys. And I totally agree with your number one choice.
Really? Who puts SCIV above Rondo?
Props on including Gaires.. few games give you the feeling of constantly being on the verge of death like that one and the variety is superb.. I'm still waiting for a music remix of the underwater section. Someone get on that.
I'm very impressed that this show has been so consistently good from the start. Keep up the good work!

Congratulations guys! You're the only RUclips channel I bother with on a regular basis. Just two guys talking about games and not being obnoxious - nothing could be better and I hope you stick around for a long time.
Best intro ever! I’m mad at myself for selling my whole collection on eBay. I sold power blade 2 with manual for $650 two years ago.
I think the funniest scene in the last 100 episodes was when Joe drew himself and Dave in Art Alive on the Homebrew episode. Hilarious.
Congrats on 100 episodes and my god was that intro incredible.....not to mention fantastic list and very well done....Super Castlevania 4 for the win
i love how you're keeping the Gaiares box joke running. that guy's probably still playing Gaiares in a cardboard box somewhere.
Mad respect for putting Castle of Illusion so high. Best Megadrive title, agreed.
Truly great 100th ep of by far the best retro game show on youtube, or anywhere else for that matter! I love the way you mix it up with the subject of each episode. You never know what's coming up next. Awesome work dudes.
Congratulations! A great episode, and i just loved that you picked YOUR favorite games that you grew up with
Holy epic intro Batman!! You guys have come a long way, not just in the number of videos but even how you produce them. Actually, I have to thank you for showing us the games that are actually less known then the hits!
I've said it before and I'll say it again...can't get enough of this show! It's like comfort food, it make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. If I'm down I'll watch this show and I forget all my troubles for a bit. Thanks guys!

I just wanted to thank you guys. Love this channel
Congrats on 100eps. Would love top 10 lists of each era. So 8-bit, 32/64bit, 128bit, the gen before the current one (Ps3, 360 and Wii).
Congrats on 100

Happy 100th episode guys. I have been watching Game Sack Religiously with every new episode that comes along every second Sunday the minute I wake up Game Sack is the first video I watch.
I really enjoyed this top 10 and would definitely agree on Super Castlevania 4 being the no 1 top spot for best 16 bit game. Here's to the next 100 episodes, I can't wait to see what you have in store for your 200th.
guys I cant say enough on how I enjoy how you do your vids .. here's to another 100+ vids
I dig the montage guys. Congratulations!
I still go back and watch your old vids from time to time, love it guys :)
I completely agree with your top 2! Castle of Illusion was my absolute favorite as a kid and Castlevania IV is the best! I still hope Konami is going to make another linear game similar to CIV at some point, as I don't care for the Metroidvania games at all.
Rondo of Blood is 20 times better than super castlevania
earthbound is absolutely my favorite 16 bit game and just my favorite game of all time and super castlvania 4 isnt to far behind it
Of course it is. It's a cult classic after all.
Congratulations! on your 100th episode
You must not play many Genesis games otherwise you would know that there are some games with fantastic music despite the systems inferior sound chip.
Oh man I love Castlevania IV's OST. So many great tracks. I'm happy to see there are others, like you, who also love it.
Congrats on your 100th episode, guys!
I like your videos. A change from the usual style out there
Top 10 lists are great because they give people who aren't that well versed in gaming, such as myself, starting points. Good stuff y'all!
Well there’s plenty of them on RUclips. Get a SNES or genesis mini and make ur own mind up. U nigh prefer games they don’t even mention
Alien Soldier is my top 16 Bit game. It was developed by people that worked on Super Castlevania 4. They are TREASURE, of course. Alien Soldier has amazing AI enemy Bosses that, to this day, are un-paralleled.
If there were a top 10 youtubers list, you'd definitely be at the top...awesome video as usual
Congrats on one of the best shows on the internet. Make a DVD lol
They did better - BluRay!
Did anyone else see the villain (I don't know his name) from altered beast as Dave said that "Dracula is welcoming you to your doom"?
Haha, I didn't see him as much as I heard the voice in my head.
I know I’m late as I’ve unfortunately just discovered game sack a few weeks ago and am now binging it nonstop, but Joe, wtf? No Greendog?!! Come on man!!
Dude! How could you have missed this for all these years??!
The nostalgia meter went off the charts for this vid, well done guys!
You guys rock don't stop making vids
even the dog from call of duty, i lost it
I remember being in Junior High and going to my friends house and seeing Revenge of Shinobi.
(wipes tear) I've been with you guys since the beginning! Just under a different username, because you know...Google+. Oh, how they grow so fast.
I have to say considering how many people whine about it, that last skit about Super Metroid was spot on.
Haha This is my favorite channel on RUclips. You guys are awesome! :p
I can't believe people are complaining about the intro, it's incredible! So well edited. Here's to another 100 episodes :D
I've seen this episode for the first time now, as I don't watch them in chronological order. To answer your question: I like top 10 episodes. Keep up the good work, Joe (and Dave :-( )
watching this post Dave departure makes me sad :(
love that castle baron remix at the end, been watching since about episode 3 congrats on 100 episodes guys!
Game Sack, now with 100 Mega Power!
I loved the list! I think maybe sticking some top ten's in every once in a while is a great way to shake things up...but I would hate to lose the normal format for the sake of just top ten lists. That being said, I would love to see Joe's top ten Master System games and Dave's top ten NES games. :)
I caught the Altered Beast Joke, heheh.
lol, me too. "Welcome to your doom." haha
You guys are effin' awesome! I always look forward to the next episode of game sack! Congrats on your hundredth, and here's to another 100. Keep rockin' the tube, gents!
Great episode guys! Congrats on the 100th episode!
Gamesack it is the best video game show. Congratulations guys. But Super Metroid should had been on the list, ha, ha.
One of the things I like about this channel is how you guys actually have a modicum of personal taste. Most lists like this would be like
1.Zelda
2.Super Metroid
3.Sonic 2
4.Chrono
5. etc
and it's just boring as shit to see the same Hive Mind view expressed over and over.
And whoever owns that SNES in the footage; man, that thing is pristine and gorgeous. Mine looks like I bought it from the pawn shop in Gremlins.
Most lists are very similar because some games are objectively better than others, and most gamers are aware of that fact.
but thats every list man, before watching this i was expecting the same list, but they changed it up. Oh and Chrono Trigger is 1
You can thank the hive mind perspective from fanboys like Watchmojo, James and Mike (AVGN) and other bias channels that discredit the Genesis as a whole.
It's bs. (I'm not saying you do this btw)
mickey shocked me
mine would have
sonic 3
chrono
gunstar heroes
megaman x3
and #1 donkey kong country 2
Best 16-Bit Games (1 per franchise)
5. Sonic the Hedgehog 2
4. Earthbound
3. Super Castlevania IV
2. TLoZ: A Link to the Past
1. Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island (Which is criminally undermentioned in Top 20/10/5 Lists)
"(Which is criminally undermentioned in Top 20/10/5 Lists)"
lolno, it's always higher or lower tha mario world
I hardly see it
Congratulations on the100th episode of the best show on youtube.
I'd like to see on next episodes dave talking more about games for sega platafoms end joe talking about nintendo ones, maybe in a top ten 8-bit games.
Anyway, just a sugestion, the show is awesome as it is
Congrats on the 100th episode guys. Heres to 100 more
