You are so right about how gay men are treated vs predators in black families. But I disagree about Aaliyah- Aaliyah should have been brought up. He groomed that girl from the age of 12, she is also a part of this story. Her mother is only mad and coming out against the doc because it shows how negligent they were as parents. If they were always with her as they claim- then how did they miss her getting married at 15 and only find out and annul the marriage two months later? It’s important to highlight that Aaliyah was blamed for the marriage and for being “fast” which almost ruined her life and career. It’s important to involve Aaliyah because people remember how they treated and thought about Aaliyah and it directly relates to how black girls are seen and why we are not protected- because black girls are not seen as children but as women who are responsible for their own abuse. That is exactly how Aaliyah was seen and treated and how these women’s stories were overlooked. So yes IMO Aaliyah should have been brought up. People using the idea that this is tarnishing her legacy need to ask themselves why exactly that is? Why would something that happened to this young black princess tarnish HER? She was abused, groomed, manipulated and SURVIVED. She became a star regardless if anything I admire her more. IJS.

The whole situation is disgusting. This man has been doing this predatory shit for YEARS, and being talented does NOT absolve him of the crimes. I'm so tired of his fans not being able to let him go because of bops. Should Aaliyah have been brought up? I'm torn cuz she isn't here to defend herself, BUT she IS apart of the story. There is a song from 1992 called "She's Got That Vibe", and in it he names off all these girls and then you hear "little cute Aaliyah's got it". You mean to tell me that's a coincidence? This was TWO years before Aaliyah's debut album which would've made her 12 or 13! Come TF on now! Folks will INVITE the predators to family gatherings for the VICTIM to have to endure, but oust gay members of their families. Then y'all will come up with empathy for him, but where is that same empathy for the young girls?

Justin M. That’s what i been saying! Regardless of Aaliyah’s legacy, u can’t talk about his predatory behavior without including what happened with Aaliyah 🤷🏾‍♀️. What we do in life will always follow us in death. Momma should have kept this same energy when that whole situation went down.

Justin M. EXACTLY! Age ain’t nothing but a number? I wanna go all the way?!? TF? You mean to tell me that y’all had no issue with your 15 year old daughter singing songs like that? And if u did and let her sing them anyway because R Kelly was the ‘it’ producer at the time says a lot about your integrity as a parent. What went down was wrong and u can’t be mad at it being brought up. As soon as y’all found out about it should have been the time for y’all to file charges and u didn’t 🤷🏾‍♀️ Aaliyah was blacklisted anyway. As a parent i would have made her rethink this whole career and sent her to school somewhere

Everything R. Kelly sings about is hidden in plain sight, his lyrics were about child molestation. In " I like The Crotch On You" he says, "only if you're old enough baby, 18 and over or 16 and under". Like wtf!!!!😔I'm disturbed because my mother told me about R. Kelly's nickname "Pied Piper". She said its not a coincidence that he named himself that! The Pied Piper of Hamelin is a German Legend about a piper who rids the town of rats by luring them away with his music. The people of that town promised to pay him but didn't so to get revenge he seduced and lured away about 130 children with his music. They disappeared and were never seen again. I will never listen to this man's music ever again. I'm sick!😟😒

Brittany Sanders OMG! When I was about 16, I went to an R Kelly concert ( this was after his annulment to Aaliyah) and he said that 18 and over, 16 and under. I KNEW I heard him right, my friends and I talked about it right after he said that. Finally confirmation that we didn’t hear it wrong. We knew he liked them young, didn’t know about any physical, emotional abuse until just recently. I don’t follow R Kelly at all, so some of this stuff that they discussed in the documentary was news to me.

I need to know how the hell these 14-17 year old girls were able to fly out to R. Kelly or live on his tour bus etc. When I was that age my mom didn't even allow me to go to the mall without an adult - the parents were so negligent. Now, on Aaliyah and her mom - she wasn't vigilant either. She didn't notice her 15 year old daughter was singing Age ain't nothing but a number? If we, the general public, noticed the weird dynamic between her daughter and R. Kelly how the hell did she miss it? R. Kelly, Sparkle, Draya Kelly, the parents and every single dude who ever recruited a child for him need to do time...like now.

      R. Lucas That is exactly what I’m stressing and saying. Now I understand every once and a while a young girl can sneak off after school, but to constantly be missing for hours come tf on man. Then on top of that these ones that were “back up singer” “back up dancers” , HOW TF WOULD A PARENT LET A 13-15 year old girl stay WITH A GROWN ASS MAN AND HIS ENTOURAGE FOR HOURS AND DAYS AT A A TIME. No these parents and naive undeveloped brained poor young girls were SEEKING FAME, MONEY, AND THE NUANCE of being SURROUNDED BY THAT “FAMOUS LIFESTYLE” and had no clue what they were getting themselves into. It's so much more complicated. If you haven't gone through it then there is no way you can understand. It happens more than you know. Here's my attempt to explain it. It becomes normal to them, and it starts to feel natural especially if someone has been abused for years, therefore you become numb and desensitized to the actions. You know they are wrong but there's something that was planted deep inside of you from a young age and its been fed over and over and over again for years. Now, pile that on top of not getting help (counseling etc.), people helping him perform these actions and help him get away it, people around him not telling him its wrong, etc. It's the same concept as living in the hood and knowing selling drugs is wrong and harmful to people but that is the way of life and no one sees it as a crime. We become desensitized to the fact that selling drugs is wrong. That's my attempt, I hope it helps lol! Oh and I am not in any way defending him. What he did was absolutely beyond words. I'm just the type of person that sees everything from all points of view and then I form my opinion accordingly.

Not to get too personal, but a child in my family was sexually abused, and the way the family acted was disgusting. It was very difficult to get this child help, but I'm proud to say we went to the authorities, went to a 12 week course for non-offending families to guide us on how to help the child and got him into therapy for 2.5 years. It's so hard to get the child help, and people can act disgusting an atrocious when protecting somebody. Nobody wants to believe that *their* family member could do something like that.
Sorry to vent. It's just so difficult when this happens. Adults have a duty to protect the children in their family. I don't understand how people can just ignore it.

That is so true about the black community and how they cast out gay people but hide and accept Predators. I know we all have that one Uncle that we couldn't be alone with. The one we were told not to give hugs too. The one that we heard stories about as a child but never truly understood what they were talking about. But just knew this was someone to stay away from. As I got older I heard the stories and understood the stories and my grandmother would protect her son who went to jail and had to register as a sex offender. And did nothing but ignored it or sweep allegations from within the family underneath the rug.

Now because women are speaking out again isn’t going to change his behavior and young girls not gonna stop because of this documentary. If you wanna save young women from this teach your daughters the signs of abusive behavior, teach them that men opinion of them don’t define them. Like that type of self -esteem starts at home. I’ve never wanted to or even thought about dating some old ass man regardless of his status I was still asking for dolls for Xmas at 13. Like no to avoid this shit parent your daughters, teach them that just because someone is nice to you and kind. That it’s not a perk🗣 that is not a PERK! And my young, naive ass thinking it’s ok and I’m the shit because of it. Not realizing that I was looking for love and acceptance in all the wrong places because I wasn’t getting it from home. If R.Kelly was molested as a child, why then would he do the same evil things to somebody else??? Like, don't you remember how you felt when it happened to you?????? Some mothers also can be toxic! I will feed my child and pay for their everyway till they're 30, before I let them be abused by some predator from the street! Who else are we as parents supposed to work for??? We start all the hard work-- for the well-being of our children. So, I don't know how I would sell my own teenage daughter in exchange for a few favours and easy come dollars.... No No No! Yikes to everyone that thinks that being molested for years as a child doesn't have anything to do with the way you behave as an adult and basically your whole life. It's not an excuse, never an excuse but it's unfair to say that the trauma he experienced as a child has nothing to do with his behavior now. Trauma affects you your whole life, without help you never get past it. The people in R. Kelly's life knew he had a problem. Demetrius Smith, his former manager, said that R. Kelly came to him early and told him he had a problem and begged him for help. Yet, he did nothing. Everyone fed his demons, covered up his transgressions and never got him help because they wanted to continue to get paid. They used him and now that the money train stopped they want to hang him out to dry. Hang him, because he needs to be held accountable for these horrible actions, but make a noose for yourself as well. The girl that stole the sex tape, sold it, then wanted it back, not because there was an underage girl on the tape, no. She wanted it back because she was on the tape having sex with an underage girl and she didn't want to go to jail. She didn't care that she was constantly sleeping with an underage girl, she didn't care until she realized her ass was gonna be on the line.

He was according to his brother a quiet boy to himself so it’s unfair to call him a bitch as a child. BUT the moment money and fame skyrocketed for him he felt power and knew what he possessed. Yes those men around him should’ve stopped it from happening. Everyone in his crew knew better it’s sickening what money will do it’ll make people turn the other way as long as they are getting a check.

This was hard to watch but it’s something we’ve been hearing about for YEARS. I’m 30 born in 1988 and I grew up on R. Kelly’s music because my mother is a HUGE fan of his. I love his music but I’ve been hearing about his pedophile ways since middle school. People really just swept the Aaliyah stuff under the rug when he MARRIED her. As far as them bringing Aaliyah up it’s not fair since she’s not here to tell her own story and no one in her family approves this. But obviously Lifetime doesn’t care because they made that bogus ass movie. I feel like what happened to these women is a result of our culture and how we put men on a pedestal especially men with influence, money, and power. The way society has trained us to view celebrities and men with money is part of the reason these young girls stayed in the situation. The Road Manager and Bodyguard are sick as well and to me it seems like since the checks are not coming for them they are ready to talk. The same goes for his brothers. Hopefully they are building a case against him. I wouldn’t be surprised if nothing happened. And I agree about the black community protects molesters and shames gay people. It’s ridiculous.

Right on target-so direct. You're exactly right about the "turning the blind eye" on this mess. Also, it's Status. It's a come up to turn the blind eye, in some respects. They want to feel they're better than others because of the "6 degrees of separation" factor, even if it means their daughter becomes the commodity in that transaction..

I agree that people cover up the molestation, But I don’t think we have More molestation in our community because of it.
But again, There’s a serious issue and it must be stopped.
    Peace

They don’t protect their kids, they protect their sons. I don’t see mothers going to bat for their daughters to the same degree.

I so agree with this whole video. These parents need to be checked to for exploiting their kids for a pay off. And these adults who put themselves in situations knowing better to chase an opportunity. And those people who enable those behaviors because their blinded by money..

This is all I’ve been saying this entire time. People should really not put their kids in comprising situations just for a pay off
