    I remember hearing stories from my nana from her childhood of the 1950s and 1960s my grandparents had Santa and showmans blow molds outside their house I remember seeing pictures of their blow molds and their Christmas tree!😊

    I love them for the nostalgia factor! They were in the yards when I was a kid. I remember my mom thought they were tacky in people's yards back then. I wish I had purchased a bunch back in the 80s when no one wanted them! I just want the Halloween ones!

      Haha that’s funny your mom thinks they’re tacky too 🤣 If only we could go back in time when things aren’t popular!

    I think the cliche mass-produced Halloween inflatable lawns ornaments are tacky. For a while, I saw no blow molds, so I was delighted to see them again.

    Blow molds were big in the 80's, I was a kid and loved when my mom would drive around during Christmas just to look at people's decorated yards

      What a wonderful story. I don’t know. It just makes me so happy imagining somebody so happy being driven around in the 80s by his or her mom and being excited to see all the Christmas blow molds. Sounds like she gave you a good upbringing.

    I grew up in the 70's and love blow molds. I remember in the 90's there being a resurgence of popularity and finding blowmolds at Walmart. Gosh I really wish I had all my blow mold trick or treat pumpkins from when I was a kid. But they got dented or the handle would break and we would get a new one. We thought they would be around forever.😊

    • @emilyretro
      @emilyretro  2 года назад

      Yeah I wonder if some of the “vintage” ones are from the 90s. I have a few blow molds that have barcode stickers on them so they aren’t super old. But regardless of when a blow mold is made they are super cute. Thanks for sharing ☺️

    What I really like about blow molds is that they are fairly easy to secure outside versus inflatables; especially in the Midwest winters. also, inflatables look like deflated globs in the yard until turned on where as blow molds always give off something to look at.

    • @emilyretro
      @emilyretro  2 года назад

      I completely agree with you! And the blow molds will last years and years but inflatables can’t last very long! And no one likes to see those blobs in there yard 🤣

    I love blowmolds. I have several of the table top Halloween blowmolds like the one behind you on your right side. They are all vintage. I also have a couple of larger jack-o-lantern ones, a large ghost and the large black cat on top of a jack-o-lantern which seems to be fairly common. This were all yard sales finds!

    • @emilyretro
      @emilyretro  2 года назад

      I wonder if we’re thinking of the same black cat because I want it SO bad and don’t own one. Those were some amazing yard sale finds 😄

    I do like the blow molds but not the ridiculous prices. Cracker Barrel and Walmart had some new ones at reasonable prices the past couple of years and I did add a few to my vintage ones. I found a fairly tall witch (vintage) just last year so will be displaying it this year. You do a great job! I find the inflatables tacky but figure I will want them one day.

    Thank you for this description of how blow molds are made. I never knew!! Great video! I have some new blow molds from Big Lots. No vintage ones yet, but I always keep an eye out 👀 Lately, I've also been very interested in vintage paper cutouts like the black cats you have behind you in the video. I have better luck finding those. Maybe you could do a video on vintage paper cutouts? 💛

    Great video Emily! I have just recently learned to appreciate blow molds after lucking into the very hard to find orange Halloween owl. I just love it! I also bought the church blow mold last Christmas and was so happy to decorate with it. I hope to someday be able to find the colorful Thanksgiving turkey at a decent price. Fingers crossed 🤞

  • @truStory10
    @truStory10 8 месяцев назад

    I think they were considered tacky was because people just plopped them down in the middle of their yard with no enhancing props or shrubbery. And they are not Victorian/Country/handcrafted, but gaudy mass produced. However, properly showcased, the kitschy quality is charming and the soft light they give off can be magical. I want a plain ghost or that little tabletop pumpkin with black cat. Things come around, isn't it great.
