- In the middle of crazy storms here in Southern California, Aliso turns glassy and goes off for a couple hours! Down the beach the ultra sketchy backless mud slab wave comes alive and Yadin Nicol, John "Beanz" Porzuczek and Blair Conklin give it a try. Probably not the greatest idea... This is raw footage of the afternoon's surf action and it's window of going off.

When I was lifeguarding at Aliso in the 70's there was a sewage treatment plant a short way up the canyon that used to dump raw waste into the creek during flood conditions. I'm hoping that they have improved that plant because back in the day big rains meant big stink!
Still a strong stink in the lot..
I worked for the South Coast water district in the 80,s.Every rain fall would overflow the holding tanks at that treatment plant=flowing into Aliso creek.
Why do you think they built it back there close to the ocean.?

Yeah I was surfing there with Dicky Carlson in about 1978 I got so sick had to go to south coast,it was bad
It was amazing that day almost every wave was makable actually yesterday I was surfing at salt creek, and I saw a seal, but amazing work keep up the good content love the videos.
Don't forget I'm watching all this from my armchair here in Florida and believe me it's a great glimpse of California's surf culture.

I worked at a sewage treatment plant and did water quality sampling for years and I can tell you for a fact that the health department blows these warnings out of proportion. Even on a dirty day the ocean is much cleaner than you think and the chances of you picking up an infection or getting sick are extremely low.
