    Just did an engine swap on a 2016 Hyundai Elantra, pulled the engine through the top. Was a pretty smooth swap out, but when I started the engine the water pump backing plate fell off the shaft. Now I have to put in a new water pump. It's been fun! Thanks for the video.

    So my 2013 Elantra had a knocking sound which started on a very cold day. My car has just over 103,000 km which is just out of warranty. I took it to the dealership and because I've done the proper maintainance and oil changes, they are going to replace the short block at pretty much no cost to me, I just have to pay $300 for the initial tear down. I don't really understand what the short block is, am I getting a new engine? am I getting partially a new engine? which part is the short block, the bottom or the top? am I getting new pistons, valves? Does my car go back to a 0 (cero) kilometer engine?
    I know, too many questions, I'm pretty ignorant, help me understand please!

    • @jakerobinsonkeevers

      Short block is just the bottom end. Long block refers to the actual engine block and heads.

They quoted the whole thing for $7,000.00, but I only have to pay $300 out of that, which is for the initial tear down to see if I did good maintinance, and determine if they'd cover it or not.

      So i picked mine up a week ago, at the Spruce Grove Hyundai dealership. Eventhough they covered the engine, they found a way to get my money. They pulled the engine up instead of dropping it (like you see in the video) and cracked my shift cables in the process. They denied damaging the cables and claimed they were broken from before (i swear they were not), and wanted me to pay over $1,000.00 to replace those (over $400 for parts and over $500 for labour). Whitout replacing the cables I can not change gears. I fought as much as I could, but the only thing I could do was to get them to cover half of it and I covered the other half, plus about $200 for the initial engine tear down. They got $711.00 from me. Im so mad! the car is running very good though, but I shouldn't have had to pay a cent for this, it was a warranty issue!! SO DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH SPRUCE GROVE HYUNDAI, THEY WILL FIND A WAY TO SCAM MONEY OUT OF YOU!!!

    Couple questions.
    1) where those vacuum hoses hanging from celling? I'm bay next to him?
    2) was that at your shop?
    3)when he sprayed break wash on top of engine won't that get inside engine?

      Those hoses are probably retractable and could go up and down when need be. The break cleaner was sprayed on the head and would be evaporated when he cleaned it off. He probably spayed more on certain spot where silicone gasket (RTV/Permetex) would be applied.

      A lot of people say take it out the top. Well, like a lot of shops these days they have built in boxes. Try getting a cherry picker in front of a car to bring it out of the top when you don’t have the room. I personally take all me engines out the bottom as well. It’s nice to have it on a platform and put the car up out of the way.

    He’s lying to you all. You can’t do those in 6 hours. Warranty pays around 12.9 hours, I do heavy line for Hyundai and have done those. It takes 5+ hours just to get a Long block running since you have to swap all the components onto the new assembly.

    • @TheSnapOnToolReview
      @TheSnapOnToolReview  4 года назад +1

      Warranty pays under 10 hours for this actually.

    • @jacobpockros
      @jacobpockros 4 года назад +2

      The Snap-On Tool Review Not targeting you but none of the techs here think you’re telling the truth. By all means post a real-time video of this being done in 6 hours and if anything someone can learn from it.

    • @TheSnapOnToolReview
      @TheSnapOnToolReview  4 года назад +1

      Jacob Pockros first off, this wasn’t my build, Vince in this video now works for us, and I’ve seen it personally done in 6 hours. When you know exactly what tools to use and you’ve done 10 of them already it becomes very easy to hit that number. I do long blocks in 5 hours all day. My record for a short block is just over 7, and I’ve only done a hand full of short blocks.

    • @jacobpockros
      @jacobpockros 4 года назад +2

      The Snap-On Tool Review Why don’t you just post the video without being sped it since it was recorded anyway?

    • @TheSnapOnToolReview
      @TheSnapOnToolReview  4 года назад +1

      Jacob Pockros I didn’t record the video. The person doing the short block did.
