Just got my very first progressive press the dillon rl1100 with the Mr bullet feeder & a couple of quick change heads setup for the Same as obxsolwind .45&.308 / 9mm.5.56. The two of you have been very inspiring to me thanks for your videos
thanks for the update haven't loaded in a year forgot how to change things out , you may have forgotten to put the other pin in on that primer thingy. Well made and informative video .
Thanks for this video. I’m changing over from .38SuperComp to 9mm and I have to change the shell plate on my Super1050 and had NO idea how to do that until I watched this video. :)
No Mr. Bullet Feeder? No Mark 7? You might as well go all the way. You have got everything else. I purchase a 1050 in July. I’ve never reloaded before, after watching yours and others videos, I jumped in with both feet. 1050,Mark7 and a Mr. Bulletfeeder. I will say it was the best money I spent hands down. I push out Ammo like I had been doing this for years thanks to your amazing videos. Keep up the great work.
I like the process, and being involved, keeps me tuned in to the machine. also there is a part of me, perhaps paranoid, that fears the auto feeder and motor will create more grief than ammo. I can see it has the potential to really go south in a hurry. would be sweet though. thanks man !
Im glad I ran across your new channel, I kept tossing the Idea of getting a 1050 or another 650. For some reason it was stuck in my head that change outs tool a lot longer. I'll be ordering a 1050 now, thanks!
No clue as to what you just did.( LOL ). Awesome to watch though.. I remember when you built the bench back in the Socal prepper days.. Thanks for sharing! HAPPY NEW YEAR to you and Yours
Your a man of many skills and talents. I could see how you'd want the known tools you need handy to make the change go along smoothly. Does that unit come with the common tools? It sure is a beauty. Here it is the new year John, you ready for it? :)
it does come with an allen wrench set and the wrench for the locking nuts for the dies... but there is nothing out of the ordinary about the sizes,,, thanks man, cheers and happy new years my friend !
Thanks for the mention brother, Great video! I do agree it is built like a tank, can't wait to change from 9mm to 223 and rail that shit! Thanks for the video!
Thanks for the terrific video. Any chance you can show it loading 5.56 all the way through? I heard you need to use two separate tool heads. One to deprime/swage/resize (Lube brass before putting into casefeeder?)... then retumble... and another toolhead to prime, charge, and seat bullets.
Another awesome/helpful video WTF So Cal. I just got my 1050, for 223, delivered on Thursday, and plan on reloading for 6.8 as well. Did you order your 6.8 dies and 6.8 micrometer from Dillon? If so, how long did it take for them to be delivered? Their website states that their 6.8 dies were on backorder. Thanks again for the great how to videos on the Dillon 1050, and hope to see some more of them. Happy New Year!
I did order the Dillon dies from Dillon but I got the Seater from amazon, Dillon doesnt have a "conversion kit" for the 1050 so I pieced it together from a 40cal shell plate and a 270 win expander and backer die...I did buy a conversion for the 650 though so just in case this doesnt work, I have a back up ... so Ill try getting the dies dialed in and make a video later today on that... and we will see if I failed. My dies came in 2 days after i ordered them. so I guess I bought the last one :-P
You know what I was wrong....they are all redding dies... i thought for some reason I got Dillon dies but I didnt... I guess because they were sold out then as well... I prefer them over all other sizing dies especially, they just run smoother.
@WTF SoCal. I have to admit...this rabbit hole is a fun and relaxing hobby for sure! LOL Funny..after your original response back to my question on the dies. I wondering what size shell plate you had used for the 6.8...your new video answered it. Ordered my 6.8 dies from Amazon and will look into getting the #2 locator buttons and the 40 cal plate from Dillon. I think the have the 6.8 case feeder as well. Thanks again WTF SoCal and Happy New Year! :)
How often do you use all 7 die stations on the 1050? Also why change the whole tool head with powder measure when you could just change the dies? Seems like a very expensive way to save some time. I ask because I am considering getting a progressive press and would like to make the most informed decision possible.
Got one. Hope you make some more 1050 videos. And FWIW the $1800 is just the beginning... :-) Wondering how you get a new machine with Redding dies? Or do you buy it with the Dillon dies and then go out and buy the Redding dies also? Thanks in advance.
I have a 650 can all my dies be used in the 1050 tool head?? I can assume you would recommend buying multiple tool heads at cost of $205 each, it'll be much easier to change out from one caliber to another. I have about 7 tool heads for the 650 and there only $35 each.
Since you have been more responsive then even the CS folks at Dillon this far in my knowledge quest, have another couple questions but they may sound stupid because I still am in the dark on this. If my goal is to keep it as simple as possible with regard to shortening the process of taking pieces of brass and creating ammo (pistol, 556, 300BO) how much am I helping that process with a progressive press that can swage (1050/1100) as a station vs a 750 that I think (?) I have to run a separate process for? I think I understand that when processing 556 brass, I have to resize and trim it but idk how or if its possible to streamline that process but I’d like to get the input of someone who would know. Also, is there a way to streamline the process of converting 556 brass to 300BO? As I’m looking at it, I’m wondering if it’s just easier to buy their brass precut but would I still have to size and trim that too? Soooo many questions before I can move forward and I seem to have runout of ways to get this info via videos and forums. If you have time to help, that would be wonderful. If not, no worries. Thanks.
it has been my experience that (assuming you have brass that is already trimmed to length) you will rarely need to trim it. maybe every 3 or 4 firings... but you also dont want to over resize it either.. the more you resize it, the longer the case gets... think of a rolling pin and pie crust kind of effect. IMO once fired LC brass doesnt need trimming... when you make 300 AAC you are trimming after the sizing so again, no need for more trimming.... the 1050 is great if you are dealing with a ton of military brass, but you only have to swage once... so that is your call... I bought the 1050 because it had that option and I would do it again. I think i answered them all for ya... OBXsolwind has some great reloading videos the 1050 and 650 as well... he is who I learned from when I got my presses...
Thanku again. I will check those out. Priced things out with RL 1100 and all the stuff I want/need for .40 SW and quick change to 9mm and I hit $3800! Ouch! Reconsidering everything now.
Great video ...one question do you miss the 650??....after watching your videos I wanna sell my 650 with all the bells and whistles and get a super 1050......that looks like a might fine drink there young man ...are you old enough to drink!!
love how technical you get , case shover , goop of grease , shove it in there , wack it...really high end terms . lol Love even more how you spend my money
I live in CA and am considering reloading. Do you know with all the crazy laws of getting brass, bullets , powder and primers will still be able to be purchased online? Bass pro is local to me but they are very expensive
I am not interested in reloading but I do dig the time and effort and detailed info you all do when you make the vids...I just don't have the patience for reloading I think but like Cmax states it is good therapy...That machine looks so nice and heavy duty and that is awesome in itself...
Thanks for the great vids. I am in the process of getting a 1050 for my bench, I know a guy that has been running a string of 1050 S for commercial reloading purposes and is selling a few of his units for $1000 each. He claims that they are fully refurbished and in excellent operating condition. From your time using your press, do you feel that getting one of these used ones would be a good buy?
During our adult “time out” here in quarantine (not to be disregarding of any who are sick, just self deprecating humor) I’m thinking more about the idea of becoming a reloader. Never done any of it. Currently I just buy bullets and make them go bang. I don’t need to do it for saving money although I did the math and it’s a worthy reason. I’m also not needing to produce huge quantities of ammo. I just think it would be something I would enjoy. I want to do this in a way that is as enjoyable as possible for me personally and minimizes the PITA (pain in the a$$) factor. I’m a believer in the buy once cry once concept. That all said, if I was thinking of doing 9mm, 40SW, 45ACP, 300 Blackout, 556/223, and possibly add 308 in the future, in your estimation, would a 1050 serve me well to minimize the PITA factor by being able to swage and possibly add other capabilities (cutting own 300 Blackout brass) down the road? OR is it biting off more than I can chew as an absolute newb and would I be smarter to do a less involved progressive press and use the KISS principle?
I started on a 650 and then bought the 1050s, totally do able... for starters i recommend people only put one case on the shell plate at a time. Im actually thinking about selling one of my 1050s just kuz i never use it, are yu local to orange county CA?
Looks like 2nd machine will be better option if somebody use 2 calibers a lot. In that case you need around $5K with all the extras. Even if you will reach to the deep pocket and spend this amount of money you are not done. You still have to buy primers, powders, bullets and sometimes empty brass, cleaning media etc. On the top of that you have to invest your time and sacrifice a lot of space in your house/garage/basement or barn. Don't understand me wrong. Todays reloading machines are great. I try to convince myself to buy at least one of them, but looks like you need almost 20,000 rounds to start see some savings. Let's say you are done with your brass and you need new one. You still have to spend like $0.25 per round or even more (depend of the caliber) so 20K rounds times 0.25 = $5000 only for ammo "parts" + Reloading machine/equipment, dame this "sport" is expensive (If you shoot competitions and you are making money I'm not talking to you) . Do I missing something?
I’d like to know how the primer runs . The bane of all presses. I’m betting that thing runs like a sewing machine. I’d like to have one but my HORNY DAY is all I can really afford and really it runs great. One or two quirks but nothing that makes me hate it. I have fixed for any problem I’ve run into. Personally I’m never in enough rush that my Hornaday can’t take care of. I can change out calibers much faster than this that’s for sure. The 1050 , She’s a beauty though. Anyone in GA METRO ATLANTA AREA . LAKE LANIER Lawrenceville area with one. I would love to just test one out or even feel what it’s like. Please PM if interested. Thanks Michael. I’m on outdoor trader also if you want to see my profile. I’m not some guy looking to case a house lol.
you are welcome to stop by and take a tour if you want (not really) im in southern CA. long trip just to see a press you could probably see somewhere in atalanta the primer station and mechanism is one of the most solid ever made. almost perfect, but nothing is... thanks for watching
Bought two 550’s and two 1050’s (over a long time) due to your videos
Just got my very first progressive press the dillon rl1100 with the Mr bullet feeder & a couple of quick change heads setup for the Same as obxsolwind .45&.308 / 9mm.5.56. The two of you have been very inspiring to me thanks for your videos

Have you ever ver had any popping sound on the release, meaning right after sizing. I think it’s the sizing or powder funnel but I can’t pinpoint it.
Man you're really making me want one of these now!
FirearmTutorials .com, Get one, you will never regret it. You will have to make time to shoot all of your new Ammo, because you will have plenty.

another thing i completely forgot about was the locator buttons.... Ill need to buy a Pack of #2's crap...
i did another video kinda based on what you asked me which lead to a trip down a rabbit hole...
@WTF SoCal. I have to admit...this rabbit hole is a fun and relaxing hobby for sure! LOL Funny..after your original response back to my question on the dies. you are right, it is a more expensive route, but its convenient, i set the dies up once.... not every time i load.

again, YOU ARE WELCOME
He has me researching the 1050 due to my LNL being such a PAIN and the swagger has me almost won over alone
I live in CA and am considering reloading. Do you know with all the crazy laws of getting brass, bullets , powder and primers will still be able to be purchased online? Bass pro is local to me but they are very expensive
i get most of components at gun shows, but online works too... thee are no "laws" prohibiting import of components yet..... YET
WTF SoCal ty bro!
nice video I feel like If I ever got one I could swap it out
Pretty interesting stuff as good info and vid....Good stuff....
interesting is a strech, but thanks for sticking with me !

it is very therapeutic indeed...
Pro Tip: use a q-tip to smear the goopy stuff. Your work mat will thank you! hahaha
I'm turning you into Moonbeam that shit has got to be illegal in Commiefornia, lol. Happy New Year dawg.
He knows.... I make ammo for all the cops in san fran and LA :-P Happy new years John, cheers buddy !

Thanks man!
If I only had the room, I would love to reload. Maybe in our next house lol
Well done!

Hell yea !!! Dillon, despite them not guaranteeing this unit for more than a year , they still will pretty much send you what ever you need, free...
very interesting
nice review
thanks man, all the best to ya brother in the new year , cheers my friend

Thanku for that reply and offering your inputs. Unfortunately I am not in CA. I live in MI.
Now I see why you guys just buy another machine instead of swapping those heads out...lol
Hehe I agree. I have the XL650 and changing the head is much easier than this. Just 2 pins to remove the head, no tools needed.
Is it illegal for me to own one of these?
Are you a felon?
And no.
Nice how to
thanks Don, cheers man, happy new year

the primer station and mechanism is one of the most solid ever made. almost perfect, but nothing is...
thanks for watching
Liked and sucked thanks for taking the time to make this video
$1800?? When I quoted one, I was at 3k.
thats just for one caliber.
@@WTFSoCal More on the idea of a dedicated press
I would buy another machine if I wanted a different caliber.
that looks like a pain in the ass, ill just buy a 1050 for each caliber i reload, once i hit the Megamillions lol
that will do too !
Nice machine, but way too much work to change out calibers.
And having to buy a new turret for every caliber....wow plus dies
Want everything but the separation of $1800 🤓
think of it as an investment !
Meh, I’ll keep my 650 with Bullet and case feeder.
