  • Here is the completed Detroit Diesel 8V92 motor, transmission and radiator ready for installation into my restored 1979 Kenworth K100 Aerodyne. This video shows the motor being test run on the jig with a couple of bursts of Jake brake for good measure.

    Great job on restoring this stunning example of Kenworth history. Your structural improvements on the cab and attention to detail are strong. I look forward to a video of the truck running.

    Somewhere in my childhood souvenirs is a Silver 92 (shape and logo) key fob. The shop where my dad worked was a Detroit shop and those were the BIG THING in the local oil patch at the time (around 1980). The 6V and 8V-71 and -92s were very popular.

    Awesomeness Paul..!! this is a real credit to you mate.., a near perfect restoration of a Mighty Detroit..., just one thing missing though to get it from 99% correct to the magic 100% correct........... and thats the mandatory 'Black Oil Puddle' on the ground directly beneath it that they are renowned for.. hahahaha..... but seriously this project is totally brilliant and a fantastic tribute to one of the best Kenworth models ever built...!! well done my friend... Kind Regards, Carl.

    Great job on the engine. How hard was it to do the wiring harness? Do you have a wiring diagram for a 8V92? I'm restoring a 79 also but mine didn't have a harness.

    Paul, can I trade you trucks for a bit? Maybe you could recondition my '03 Intl Eagle with Detroit S-60 while I truck around with your ride for a while. I had an 80's flat top version of this truck but I prefer the V.I.T. Aerodynes like this one even more. Back when Mayflower existed, this was pretty much the fleet truck and there were hundreds all painted one color, Mayflower Green and they had beautiful diamond tuck gray interiors. I miss driving them.

    why such a high idle should you not run it at a lower idle for a bit to seat the rings and such ?

    • @sixmagpies
      @sixmagpies 9 лет назад +1

      It's a Detroit 2 stroke, and it's idling at about 800 or so rpm. That's why they're called 'Screaming Jimmys' or 'Yamahas'.

    great job on the restoration and improvements. Too bad you put a Detroit in it, really sad.....3406 CAT would have been perfect....I guess you like shifting.

      AndersonPrototypes. Or a 3408 mechanical air to air with strong jakes. Detroits are loud, leak, underpowered, annoying, & just flat out suck!!!

      Maybe that was what was in the truck to start with and he wanted to stay with the original configuration. Is it a restoration or a restormod?

      It's the engine in the truck he told us he wanted it original
