Bohemian Rhapsody is the greatest song ever made. It has like 4 or 5 musical genres within the song. Awesome lyrics. They recorded so many layers of harmonies that the tape almost got ruined. And it was all written by Freddie Mercury himself. One person wrote this masterpiece. Not even one songwriter will get to the level of Freddie Mercury ever again.

Ok - I can see you are really fascinated, rightly, by Freddie’s voice. He is considered by most music historians to have the best male voice of our generation. I agree. Here are a few reasons why:
    He has a 4 octave range that goes from a F2 to a F6
    He has an “irregular” vibrato
His vibrato ranged from 5.4 hertz to 7.04 hertz
He was able to use subharmonics - where you use both vocal chords and “ventricular folds” in his throat - most people cannot access this part of the throat. Some monks are able to do it in their chanting.
    Just some fun facts!
Subbed. But - I expect more Queen! 😜😜😜

I was born in 1963 and grew up in the '70s, We were used to this type of music back then. Back then a lot of the rock bands all played their own instruments, used their own voices and used so many transitions within their music. This was something that we, as kids, back then, were used too hearing. Bohemian Raphhosody [ produced in 1975] even back then turned out to be a genuince ROCK/OPERA CLASSIC! Queen went on to produce many more classic tunes too to become one of the biggest rock bands in the world.

Definition: "A rhapsody in music is a one-movement work that is episodic yet integrated, free-flowing in structure, featuring a range of highly contrasted moods, colour, and tonality. An air of spontaneous inspiration and a sense of improvisation make it freer in form than a set of variations. "

Freddie did it! I've believe, for months as he wrote what we hear today, he looked for talent to give what this masterpiece of his needed. And it came along in Brian, Roger and John. All four of them had the talent, intelligence, stamina, love of music production and patience for Bohemian Rhapsody to become magnificently real. Thanks for this reaction . . . lengthy but richly informative.♥️

If you want to know more about how this song was made, there is a great documentary called 'Inside The Rhapsody' on You Tube. In it, Brian May (lead Guitar) and Roger Taylor (Drums) go through how it came about, how the video was made and then Brian walks you through how they laid down the tracks using the master recording.
I've got a couple of Queen songs for you, Death On Two Legs - A diss track aimed at their then manager Norman Sheffield for ripping the band off (they were skint and he was riding around in posh cars!) and my personal favourite, White Queen (live @ Hammersmith '75) a beautiful song with an amazing interlude where Brian and Freddie's Guitar and piano seem out of this world.

The thing is in the 70s experimentation was not only allowed (by record producers/labels, the specialist media, radio stations etc, and of course audiences), but actually encouraged. Creativity and imagination were expected, making up for any technical shortcomings. Musicians did what they could given the available resources. Then FM radio started and the 3 minute format gradually changed the way music was made.

Both Freddie and Brian had a classical background. They often use radical key or time signature changes in their songs. What is unique about Bohemian Rhapsody is that they made a video 6 years before MTV that didn't start until August, 1981. If you really want to go insane, listen to The Prophets song. I'm happy that you are on a journey of enlightenment. A word of advice. Listen to more Queen. @@hannyhawkins7804 First of all, for a successful band to cover another bands song is a compliment to the original band. To be recognized and complimented by Brian May for doing it? I can't express in words, but If I was alone when I read it, I'd probably cry. I don't know the proper words, but there is a respect within professional musicians circles, to look up to the bands and musicians who came before you, no matter how good you are. When Brian May accepted an award, (I'm not sure but I think it was a Brit music achievement award), he said, "I realize I'm standing here among royalty, so this means a lot".

Tom Crawford Well, it’s only a comment not a song cover but:
It’s a good feeling when someone acknowledges your comment with a like.
It’s a better feeling when they reply.
It’s even better when they check out something you’ve recommended.
But best of all is when they come back to the thread to talk about the shared experience.
      Thanks, Tom😁.
Yeah, I’ll bet Brendon is all kinds of proud now. Like getting a knighthood from Queen, 🤣
Brian seems to be a very generous soul.

They overlayed the tape so many times on this track that it became near-transparent with so many edits and overdubs. Queen were master engineers in the recording studio! Lead singer Freddie Mercury wrote this song from three separate songs he was working on over a period of years.

Bohemian Rhapsody is the only song to hit #1 on the charts in 3 different generations, 1976, 1992 (due to Wayne’s World), and 2018 (due to the movie of the same name). The song legendary.

Going off of what you said about looking back and comparing what was "cool" then versus now. I am a child of the '80s, my awkward teens were the '90s, and my 20s the '00s. I am witness to some of the weirdest trends in recent history. Because of this I do not judge too harshly the way things are today. In fact, there are times when I look back I think to myself "what the hell were we thinking". Then again there are times I look at the marvels of today and recognize that the innovations of yesterday directly influenced everyday life today. In my youth I never thought that I would carry a computer in my pocket or talk to and see someone on the other side of the planet in real time.

  • @barnabydodd8956

Musicians have been doing transitions in the middle of songs and changing speeds and loudness for hundreds of years. You hear it all the time with classical music like with Mozart, Beethoven, etc. It's been around forever. In fact, this song is called "Bohemian Rhapsody". Look up what the word "rhapsody" means in relation to music, and it will make perfect sense. Here is the wiki on the word "rhapsody": en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhapsody_(music)

@Rich and Kelsey this song is Freddie Mercury's Opus. It was his greatest masterpiece, and actually revealed the true Freddie. For instance when he sings Mama just killed a man, he was speaking of himself and his life. He was dating a woman, and then later found out he was bi-sexual and preferred men. So he killed himself to love whom he loved. And this song transitions 7 times throughout the entire song. Freddie could never be whom he really was, and if you listen closely the song expresses his pain, his desires, and loneilness. He felt trapped, and he could never come out as gay, it was unacceptable. The audience knew the real Freddie though, he later died from Aids. RIP Freddie! Thanks for sharing the video.

  • @wendyyslas1839
    @wendyyslas1839 5 лет назад

You're right about the song being about Freddie coming out as gay. When he says "just killed a man", he's talking about leaving his old self and becoming his true self. When he says " face the truth", he's talking about the world now seeing him as a gay man. But he didnt care what the world thought cuz he stayed true to himself. He acquired so much admiration for being true to himself. If we would all do that, we'd truly be happier people. He was one of a kind and the greatest performer with the greatest band and greatest songs. Queen will be heard and loved for another century and beyond. Miss all you guys. Watch Live Aid 1985. OMGosh, its the greatest. If you haven't seen the movie make sure you do. Awesome!!!!! Rami Malek rocked it. God bless y'all.

I think back to when I was younger and this was what I normally listened too and wasn't interested or open to listening to anything else. When I moved away from home I started listening to Public Enemy and Dre (I know from one extreme to the next) but, it made me listen to even more music and now I love Reggae, R&B you name it, I'm in! I know exactly what you mean when you say that "you were to immature to appreciate it" I was exactly like that and now am so appreciative of all genres of music. I really enjoy watching your videos! Keep it up.

During a fairly recent press conference, Roger Taylor (drummer) stated they don't use click tracks and Adam Lambert then said, "It's all live." At their concerts, what you hear is the real thing. No auto-tune, either.

Freddie M ercury created the entire thing. He presented it to the band & directed the production. Watch the Bohemian Rhapsody film , see how it happened. He was the lead singer, piano player, songwriter & genius. He was 29 when this came out , the biggest hit in history. It went to #1 3 times, most recently when the movie came out in 2018. The second time was after Freddie died in 1991. The first time , in 1975 it was # 1 on the English charts for 9 weeks.

Thank you! Queen never would have used auto tune nor would they ever lip-synch. They got so mad when they were on top of the pops and the BBC told them they had to lip-synch the seven seas of rye. Ohh boy!! They took it as an insult and even in the Bohemian Rhapsody movie, if you do ever see it, you see them raising Cain because they don’t want to lip-synch. Freddie Mercury said, “ you want me to lip-synch?” Like it was an insult to him and the band. Sadly those were the rules.

Freddy Mercury wrote this song. It was actually three different songs that he was working on that he decided to merge together. All four Queen members have written hit songs, they are all brilliant. You might have heard this song on Wayne's World. This is the only song that they need to have a recording for the middle operatic section at the live concert, the ballad and the rock portion are 100% live in concert. All of their other songs are 100% live. They sound amazing live, you should check out their live performances.
