This performance shows jus how much Maynard puts his soul into his live performance he does, shit incredible he makes u feel like a suffering worthless lieing addict powerfull shit.
The reason why it's harder to hear the vocals, apart from it being live, is that Tool's philosophy is that the vocals are just another instrument in the band, like the guitar, bass and drums, so they deliberately have the vocals a bit lower than normal, so that every musician can shine. There are very few live performances of Tool recorded, and their music videos typically don't show the band members or relate to the meaning of the songs, so I would recommend that from here on out it would be best to react to lyric videos of Tool, as Maynards lyrics are really insightful, but you may miss a lot of them if you don't read the lyrics at the same time. I would recommend the lyric video for the song "Vicarious" by Tool.
I like the Studio Version idea, hear it just like we all did the first time. The Radio version or the MTV video version is how the majority of us heard it first and fell in love. Live is great but, different vibe usually. There are VERY few recordings of live performances that are as good as the studio edit. JS!
Tool is one of my favorite bands, very complex. Their videos has nothing with the songs but are works of art in themselves. They are worth a deep dive. Love the song and video Schism
11 more days and I finally see them live for my first time🖤This song makes me cry every single time. My husband is an alcoholic, for about 10 years now. It's a constant battle. We've been married almost 20 years so basically half of my marriage has been fighting alcoholism😪
Here is the set they have been playing. some shows they are swapping Culling Voices for The Patient Fear Inoculum Opiate (tour debut; extended version) The Pot Pushit (First time since 2014, album version) Pneuma The Grudge Right in Two (First time since 2011) Hooker With a Penis (First time since 2014) Descending Intermission Chocolate Chip Trip Eon Blue Apocalypse The Patient Invincible
Tool has 6 albums worth of great songs... "H", "Jimmy", "Push It", "3rd Eye" and "46 & 2" are some you can start with. Their music is incredible... some of their masterpieces are "Lateralus" and "Parabola" and anything off their new album.
Hitting notes like that with his shoulders rolled forward and hunched over that far is just incredible, there's not a lot of singers outside of classically trained opera singers that have the power to do that
Yes, they have a music video for this song, but be forewarned that all of Tool's music videos are very strange animated videos so if you're watching those for a first listen they might distract you from the music (especially the one for Schism; fantastic song, but super bizarre video). You won't find very many decent quality live videos of Tool and you've already seen the two best ones, this one and the Pneuma drum cam.
For Future reference. Aaannnnyyytime you listen to TOOL the lyrics are aa muuuuusssstttttttt. They are just as amazing if not better then the music itself. So deep. All of thier songs. Enjoy...
This was the original Tool back when they were just starting out in 1993... Paul D'amour (bass) was replaced in 1996 by bassist Justin Chancellor... the rest of Tool is still Maynard James Keenan (vocals), Adam Jones (guitar) & Danny Carey (drums) Maynard was always a weird character on stage... even today, he performs at the back of the stage, while most lead singers are front and center. He's stated that Tool's performances r more about the band interacting w/ each other, rather than the audiences in concerts... Most people never saw Tool on TV back in the day... they were on radio, and MTV would play their music videos, but they never showed their faces, except in concert. 'Sober' had a claymation video (the band members only appeared in a flash) back in 1993 , but Tool never appeared in any music videos after that... 'Prison sex' was the 2nd video from the 'Undertow' album.
This is awesome. Especially for fans. I really wish people would suggest the studio version for peoples first listen though. Same with Panteras Domination and most others. Its just so much clearer. So they can hear everything and a lot of times live has parts changed or is t complete.
I'd say it depends. first time hearing tool I actually prefer If they watch this instead of getting distracted or weirded out by their music videos it just has its own unique energy
I agree. I also suggest for first listen of a song, first, a video with just lyrics so you can focus on the music, second watch official video, lastly a live version. This is probably too much to ask of most people but I believe it's the best way to experience a new song
@@bLastarda I agree. Its his energy though and not the energy of the song itself. Really my main issue is bad quality on a first listen can turn a lot of people off of wanting to hear more. Ive seen too many hear horrible live Metallica videos and not care to dig any further. Thinking James always sounded like shit. Lol Actually just saw it happen with Sabbath today.
The main reason this performance is so important in the tool community is because of how well Maynard is able to get into the song and portray his character. Did you notice how insanely precise his notes and articulation was? Despite the 1990's audio quality this is damned impressive. Any singer would cringe at Maynard's posture throughout this song. It is not good singing posture the way he's slumped. My recommendation for this video is Passenger by Deftones. 😉
This performance was dope, but im with you on the barely hearing shit. Me and my boys used to clown back in the day and say that he was saying "Wuzzie Waz A Wizzle Wizzle" at the beginning. lol 😂 . We were just young and stoned tho.
The BEST concert to react to with Tool as far as live stuff is their New York performance in 2002 of the Lateralus album. The Grudge in particular at that concert sounds bananas. Better than the studio.
Crazy that he can still reach those high notes hunched over like that, it's insane. Even hitting those notes while sitting down with your back straight should be hard, much less rolling your shoulders forward and hunching over that far.
I will say this rock/metal live in concert is way better than rap. I listen to both from Bone Thugs to Metallica and been to both like and nothing compares to live rock, just the intense RAW energy and power!
3:34 yes, Maynard realized that also which is why all his shows now he's to the back side of the drums and amplifiers. The feedback from it made the vocals harder to hear.
With Maynard, you need a little background. He's heavy on performance art. Great though, and I'm a big fan of tool. There is a music video, in stop motion animation. Very interesting.
Hell yeah bro!!! Yall gotta check out judith by a perfect circle if yall havent already. Same singer, different band. Tool and a perfect circle are great!
This is the correct version to watch. The studio version sounds budget after hearing this one. But wanting to hear the lyrics isn’t a bad reason to put yourself through it. It’s still ok
Besides for just looking like a distorted mess , being hunched over like that gives a haunting vocal effect as he desperately forces last gasps of air out from collapsed lungs. Which is basically the opposite of how you are "supposed" to sing, but it totally works for him/this song.
I will say, as a life long fan of tool and as someone who has had the joy of sharing tool with many people in my life, this is a weird place to start someone off with tool. This is definitely in the bottom half of their discography and does not give a good example of what tool does as a band. There are about 15-20 other songs I would show someone from tool before showing this song.
Yall need to re-do this one because like you said you can barely hear what he saying I recommend the studio version but with lyrics so you guys can actually listen to it👍
Not meant in a bad way...I don't know your volume settings but maybe turn it up because it's your video and I'm hearing everything he's saying lol. Yeah it's live not studio. But you'll be better for seeing this one lol.
Yooo I would say until you get a little more into tool I would stick to a cpl more studio versions. Not hatin at all. For real! Live music and not knowing the song is a bitch to follow especially on ppls recordings. You get the feeling but not the full effect. Def easier listen once you know the song.
Yes, there is an official music video for it. This live performance is extraordinary. It helps to know the studio version, though.
Maybe, but then you need to know the song first.
The music video sucks and is distracting. Having the lyrics pulled up is always the correct way to go with TOOL.
This performance shows jus how much Maynard puts his soul into his live performance he does, shit incredible he makes u feel like a suffering worthless lieing addict powerfull shit.
Deen them a bunch of times. It's like an out of body experience lol. Even sober
There's no "love" button, but this is where it belongs!

@@joechurch7 awesome, thank you!! I want them to play Aenima so freaking bad though😥
hes mimicking the character from the original music video , such a powerfull voice owwwww !!!!
Yes they do have an official video for this song
Yeah with TOOL it's probably a good idea to pull up lyrics on the side to follow along with. Same with Rage Against the Machine. Songs are deep.
You can just ignore Rage Against the Machine: Until You Need Money and Sellout. 🤷
MAYNARD ROCKING THE PINK ONESIE! ✌
No one else could pull that off but him

Just a great example of Maynard’s voice here and what he can do at a live show.
I always love this performance and his voice here .

His voice. His voice. His voice!!! 💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛
Considering this was like 20 years ago, even the most obscure would somewhat familiar. It stands the test of time.

@@bLastarda I think either version would’ve weird people out! But great song nonetheless
This song is the entrance ticket to the rabbit hole known as Tool. Don't say you haven't been warned.
People can say what they want. The ONLY to tell how good a band really is is to listen to listen live performances. You can gauge their truth worth.
tool is my dads favorite band along with deftones
Tool- Anema or Schism both great tracks!
Their music videos don’t actually show the band.
Yes, Maynard
They sound just as good live as they do in the studio. Awesome band.
Danny's the🐐🐐🐐...👍👊😎
I know whoever Maynard made eye contact with that day was never the same after haha
Acting out the addiction. It's not just music, a performance
His performance is perfection!
You never want any idea what you’re getting into that the beauty of it
TOOL =🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐

Jambi is an incredible tool song
LYRICAL VIDEO!!!

The original video is freaky
Maynard always pulls you in!!!
Nice! Watching Maynard scream live is amazing as well.
Cool reaction

Their videos & music are so dope!!!
The lyrics are clear as hell
Good find. Crazy how he just leans in the whole time.
With Maynard, you need a little background. He's heavy on performance art. Great though, and I'm a big fan of tool. There is a music video, in stop motion animation. Very interesting.
They have a music video. That's about as good as it gets live.

I like this song low key
This is the correct version to watch. The studio version sounds budget after hearing this one. But wanting to hear the lyrics isn’t a bad reason to put yourself through it. It’s still ok
He wrote this about a band mate that relapsed multiple times and was a no show.
There's an iconic/disturbing music video for the studio version. it's worth reacting to on its own
lol this was shot in 1991, with that in mind the quality is actually above normal
Keep in mind the audio quality of almost 30 years ago when this took place.
Мэйнард взорвал мою башку и до сих пор в ней сидит) tool ну это пиздец, это мега
the music videos much watch
Just to put this in perspective, this is about 500K in the crowd.
He is high as f*ck on ecstasy!!! I remember somewhere he did a interview about this video!
This is VERY early TOOL. SO many better songs to start with.
No
@@ysinvangulik1004 no what dummy?
They have an official vid for SOBER...Look it up
"Waiting like a stalking butler"
it might be because you have a hoodie between your actual headphones. The lyrics and sound is as clear as night.
Gotta check out the guitar work in Descending
Their music videos are .....umm something else lol
Of course there’s a music video. It’s considered to be one of the best.
Tool army here !
Listen to more of Tools Aenima album
Why cant we drink for ever about addiction !
Always, always do lyrics for Tool.

Which is basically the opposite of how you are "supposed" to sing, but it totally works for him/this song.
Love girlfriends shirt !! Uncle Ted !
Please watch the video for Sober 🤪❤️
I know what you're saying! Because you asked that 5 times in the span of less than one minute.
If you look up angst in the dictionary, it has Maynard's picture!

I seen tool live in I think 91 with Manson it was Manson frist tour
Yall need to re-do this one because like you said you can barely hear what he saying I recommend the studio version but with lyrics so you guys can actually listen to it👍
Ahhh hahaha! Do they have a music video? Yeah,...yeah they do! Just drop a couple of hits of acid and tune in !!!
here is a link to Tool's Sober video..... ruclips.net/video/nspxAG12Cpc/видео.html
You get a like before this one even starts.
There is a music video but it doesn't have them in it (except for brief clips) it's all claymation.
Can you guys please react to TOOL intension / right in two. Just sit back and let the trip begin
You guys are about as exciting and insightful as a bologna sandwich.

the live video doesnt even compare to the original video you need to watch the original to get the feeling of the song....
Damn is she rocking a Ted Nugent shirt?
You have to have the lyrics to react to Tool.
Take the headphones off ur hoody and you'll hear it better.
you and Jay z look verrrry similar maybe it just me
