I really appreciate how your editing and filming skills have improved over the years. Feels like I’m watching a movie
Thank you! I’ve really enjoyed learning and growing those skills.
@@Aviation101 I wonder how many hours are you spending editing for one episode?
@@Aviation101 are you leaving aviation??thank you for the lessons and safety flearned from you,, all the very best going forward
@@healingvibrations7845 he's definitely not leaving aviation. Just pimping out his ride.
Take a look at Trent Palmers channel. If you love aviation you will love his channel
Josh, it's been awesome to watch you grow both as a filmmaker and as an aviator. Keep up the great work!
Cheers from AOPA's Air Safety Institute!
Thanks so much! My growth as an aviator is largely due to the content and efforts the ASI promotes and produces.
@@Aviation101 That's so great to hear! Stay tuned for more ASI content coming soon 🙂
I have to say that I agree. Everything is just top notch now with both!!
ASI giving props to a youtuber.
Love your channel @Air Safety Institute
Great vid man

The production value of your videos is absolutely second to none. In my opinion on all of RUclips. Every video of yours has given me the impression that you have a crew of at least 4 people with you, but usually just you! In flight your leverage of screen recordings really help. I work in broadcasting and I’m amazed at the quality of these. The audio is very good too.
I’ve watched your vids for years. Appreciate your presentation Style. And the insight you offer. One of my few regrets is not learning to fly. At 83 I’m not likely to. Your vids give me vicarious satisfaction!
youre never too old to fly
Ditto at 82! I'm building my sim now.
@@94668 Now that’s cool! I wouldn’t know where to start!
In 1960-62 I worked for a man who had a Cessna 180. He liked flying and we went somewhere almost everyday. So your chatter sounds very familiar to me. During that time we went from Lubbock, Texas to Dallas, El Paso, Wichita, Kansas, and all points in between. He loved to fly. The last few months I was with him he bought a Cessna 310. He laughed about driving a VW to save on gas and putting 300 gals in the 310. I like your site a lot. Keep up the good work.
This was a really fun flight to tag along at. I really appreciate your nerdy personality LMAO! Deciding what to eat on a long cross country should be a logical and thought-provoking process!
Jokes aside it seemed like you were in a great mood throughout this flight and it really showed in the video..made me happy :D
I’m glad to hear you enjoyed it! It was a fun day of flying.
Man been watching for, what, 5 years now??? This is awesome!!! To see 991 come this far has and will be great! J, your by the book, safe and a competent pilot. To see a short final done perfectly, with ATC appoval of being perfect was a tribute to your skill set!!! You are a leader for GA up in coming pilot's!!! Good on ya!!! 👍🏻👍🏻😎😎😎
I couldn’t help but think that all his chop-and-drop practice with confined landing in a seaplane had him imminently prepared for this “make it short” maneuver. Very comfortable and right over the numbers. 👌
Even Josh's in-flight meal planning is performed with precision down to the minute! :D
Man. I can't get enough of these videos Josh. Thanks...
SR 👋
7:57 - 8:10 is the best 13 seconds of content I've seen in years 😂
For real
Aghhh this is SO EXCITING! Congrats to you, Josh, and to 991 for seeing this new chapter begin as a revamped, modernized machine. It makes me happy to see folks putting the love and care into older machines, whether on the ground or in the sky, and the success that has made this possible for you is well-deserved.
Thanks for bringing us along, and for staying happy, healthy, and current, and most importantly staying proficient. Fly safe! 😃
Watching your videos is getting my excited about getting my license. Been a dream for the last 20 years. Finally coming to fruition in the next few years I hope! Finally time and money.
Watching from UK - everything seems geared up for general aviation in USA.
Josh, your passion for flying shines through. This was a super video to watch thanks.
Good to see Otto getting some air again, even if he is useless. Looking forward to seeing the upgrades!
It's kinda sad see the old gauges go... I like the old style cockpit panels... But we have to keep up with the times! Also, it will give a nice capability boost to this classic bird. Looking forward to see the upgrade process and the final result. Hugs from Brazil!
Not only have you mastered your recordings, but that sponsor was amazing!!! I just wanted to say I appreciate the calmness, the piano, the amazing background and chill mood, and how quickly you delivered that part. Thanks!
Love this video. The videography is amazing and those sunrise shots are out of this world. Cannot wait to watch the transformation of this beautiful plane. Thank you for sharing this with us Josh!
Good luck on all the upgrades! I’m sure you’re excited to fly 991 as soon as they complete her makeover. Thanks for filming the Daytona trip. Nice to hear the tower announce your 30kn overtake of landing traffic. Airplane is excited to get those new digs too!
Josh, you never cease to amaze me with your flying abilities! I am always impressed! Welcome to Daytona Beach! Looking forward to seeing the transformation of “991”! Sometime perhaps you will make it back through KAWG on your way back to Wisconsin. I have followed you for so long now and am always impressed with you and your family and your flying capabilities! Always my personal best for you, your Family, 80991 as well! Mark in KAWG Iowa.
Nice flight. You left Texas at 25 degrees F. By the time you published this and I am watching it is 78 degrees climbing to 100F here in North Texas,
Well edited and an excellent views. Shows why some of us love flying GA so much. Great views, new adventures, and on our own schedule (at least most of the time!)
DAMN, there IS another CFI out there with his shit together! I thought I was the last one. As a 50+ year pilot & instructor, and a retired controller, your initial contact to transition the Houston Class B told the whole story. AS A CONTROLLER, if, on your initial contact you sound like you're fifty-miles in front of the airplane, I would work my butt off to get you thru the airspace as painless as possible. If, on the other hand, if you sound over the radio like... you're so far behind the plane you'll never visit the impact crater, expect to hear, "Remain clear of Class B airspace and have a nice day." My last flying job, a CJ2+. After that, I said, "Enough. Life's been good, now I'll pass the torch." Keep up the good work, Mon Ami. Throughout our careers, we want to go higher, faster and farther. Then one day we realize what we REALLY WANT is to go low and slow, and navigate by looking out the windows. Enjoy the career.................
Pretty sure that you're already flying behind it but you're going to love this panel!
We did a clean sheet glass panel instal in C-FMVU; replaced and started fresh with everything. I absolutely love it.
Love your series Glen! If you ever make it to Florida I’d love to fly together.
Hey! We used to own C-FUVM! Cessna 172XP
Had a long day of packing today - it was nice to sit back and watch this episode. Excellent work, as always. Look forward to see how it turns out!
So excited for you Josh. Can’t wait to see the new panel and other improvements. After flying steam gauges my Sing 2’s all Garmin panel is a joy to fly with. Good Luck with the upgrade.
Could not be happier for you and your upcoming upgrades. Can’t wait for your video series of the process. Congrats!
It’s amazing to see how far this channel has become over the years and glad to see that 80991 is getting improvements.
Beautiful video, DEP to ARV. Great editing, masterful radioship, and mature filming all made my “ride-along” experience a real gas!
Thank you.
Congrats on the upgrade Josh! Looking forward to the process and then watching you fly the “new” plane. Take Care, Be Safe, Have Fun.
Yay! So glad you are getting a new panel! N80991 will be even more awesome! I await future videos with much anticipation! 👍👏🎉
Wow this is amazing! What an amazing overhaul! Can’t wait to see to finished product and see 991 become a new bird. I remember when you did the paint job years ago. Been a subscriber of yours since 2016, it’s really fun to see how the channel has grown over the years.
Thanks for bringing us along. Some flying videos can be dull, but you inject a nice bit of humor and keep the story moving forward. Way to go with the full Garmin upgrade!
That's the stuff! Nice one Josh, radio calls, charts, procedures. Great so see her get an amazing upgrade.
Absolutely unmatched cinematography. The extra effort you go through for some of those shots is so worth it.
I'm looking forward to seeing the teardown and then rebuild. Seeing behind the panels gives you a glimpse of the magic.
Being a Student PPL, just finished my 2nd xc solo, this was an awesome video watching every leg of the trip, the radio traffic and everything. Thank you!!! Awesome video. Can’t wait to see niner niner 1’s transformation.
Great video Josh, your radio discipline is very impressive (brevity and clarity) and, together with your flying skills, make your flights very enjoyable both to you and the viewers.
Holy moly man. What an amazing episode. Looking forward to this series man. All the best and great content as always!! :) Wow I'm excited to see how the 991 looks after this overhaul!!
Josh, I want to say thanks for putting such a great content for us to enjoy. I just do not know what is the best thing about your videos clips, the way you describe or do things, or your filming style--it is awesome and educational. THANKS.
Love to watch stuff about Cessna 172. Soloed and did my cross country flights in 8269L back in 1973 when very few women were flying. Your videos bring back great memories. Thanks.!
Thanks for this video. I have always loved watching your channel. Can't wait for part 2
Great video, it looks like it was a really fun fight. That sunrise was spectacular. Gonna have to plan a long X-C like that once I have my instrument rating. Looking forward to part 2!
Your intro in this video is exactly why most of us even started in aviation. Excitement and romance!!!!! great video.
Nice video, great trip with the cherry on top being the landing in Daytona. 20 years ago I used to be a flight instructor in Daytona Beach, happiest years of my life.
the JET-A joke you cracked about 8:00 had me laughing pretty good
Looking forward to it! Congratulations, Josh, on the upgrades!
Hey I met you at sun n fun you probably don’t know me but you really inspired me to get into general aviation and I started my first flight lesson today! Your videos are so fun to watch and your skills with flying helped me look like I knew what I was doing in the plane! Keep up the good work and safe flying! 😁
Cool 😎🚬
It was a great treat for me to give a friend a plane ride,,,to have it come full circle back and have him give me a plane ride after earning his private pilot license.🧲🥰
Stick with it and train hard and you’ll have your license in no time! Best of luck friend.
@@vegasaviation2243 thanks 😊
I started my first flight lesson a few moths ago, I know im a bit late to this but Goodluck on ur process to PPL!

@@airplaneguyaidan7943 Good luck and safe flying to you!
Fun to tag along. Thanks for the video. Can't wait to see what she looks like all done up!
thought i'd never fly anymore, but seeing your videos (so well mounted) made me feel like being in my Flight sim ... you make me back in the pilot seat I missed
Cool, great footage. Love to see how all upgrades are coming together.
Love the videos!!! Keep it up!! Can’t wait to see the progress and end result!
Thanks for sharing Josh.
Looks like you’re going to have a really awesome panel, can’t wait to see the finished product.
A great looking Skyhawk is gonna look even better. Enjoyed watching your last upgrade with the G5’s and engine monitor, etc.
Love the channel!
Long time coming Josh! Congratulations!
Got a rush of excitement at the end. Can’t wait for part 2.
WOW, that thing is gonna be SWEEEEET!! Congrats, Josh! Can't wait to see the progress. Enjoyed the flight - thanks for sharing! 👍👍
Brilliant video, love the filming style, definitely feels like you're bringing us along for the ride, very relaxed. Subbed - can't wait to see how the refit turns out!
Watson 👋
Just went through a similar exercise on my Cherokee 180. New panel full of the JPI, avidyne and aspen, CNC cut panel with etched labeling, all new wiring, 100 amp alternator, all fuses replaced with circuit breakers, etc etc. Not a round dial left on the panel. LONG project but amazing to fly. You'll love the glass makeover!
Random 😏
I haven’t watched this channel in 2 years. Just started watching again. It seems like the video production has greatly improved! This channel makes me want to get my PPL!
8:08 “Otto Pilot……. Useless”.
That comment…… Priceless
😂😂😂
@@Aviation101
Sort of like going through the check list and checking off gear down on a 172.
@@gungadinn isn’t the idea of doing that so that the following day when you fly a retractable you’re in the habit of it?
@@DJ99777
Could be, however if you fly a complex aircraft there are numerous other check items.
Every aircraft I’ve flown had a laminated check list for that particular airframe.
IMO a checklist is airframe specific.
@@gungadinn probably, I’m just a simple GA piston guy but I use the same pre landing checklist for all the types I regularly fly they have a laminated checklist but I don’t use that after top of descent. I only fly C150, C172, PA28, P28R, PA31, P32R and BE58 regularly, nothing complex… only difference is undercarriage and air con aren’t required in some but I still say it…. Horses for courses I guess.
"Autopilot... useless." Best thing I've heard on your channel 😂 I'm gonna use that next time I fly with one of my friends 😅
Amazed at your piloting skills, and videography skills.
Thanks Zach!
Freaking awesome! Love ECP, I learned outta there, and that Daytona approach controller was spot on! 👌
Each video of you flying is a masterclass, and a masterpiece!
You got vectors into the bravo bravo way to go good job Josh love you on your videos safe travels hope to meet you one day
I've always enjoyed watching your videos Josh... I think the first one I've watched is you as a spotty faced student pilot showing us how to do a pre-flight check. You've come a long long way. Keep up the good work and happy flying. :)
Oh and when I saw the thumbnail and the title I got the impression you were selling 80991 and getting a different plane. PHEW!
Absolutely on point. I am truly on the wait for this. Wow your aircraft will probably blow all of the subscribers away. Getter up!!
What a superb video. It was you channel that helped me get my PPL here in the UK. I learn something new every time. Thanks so much for posting.
What a great video and flight. Thanks so much for taking us with you on this journey. Sounds like you are doing some serious up grades to the sky hawk. Looking forward to seeig the up grades. our videos are just awesome you do a great job of editing!!
As I pilot who flies 172s in Canada there were 2 moments that really stood out at me in this video. 1 sub $4 gas. The other week I filled up away from the college and the gas was almost $10/gallon. 2 115kts at 6gph. I am lucky to see 105kts at 7gph in the 172 SP or N that power flow exhaust seems amazing. Great video.
This is a well edited and relaxing video to watch... you are doing a great work and I know it takes a loooot of hard work to get that kind of result. Congratulations
Fred 👋
RUclips recommendations at its finest. Ive always been fascinated by flying and aircraft. I like your videos, good job!

Great video Josh! Crazy busy airport for sure! Appreciate the effort and time that goes into the editing! All those external camera shots take time but well worth the effort! Blue skies!
Awesome! Can’t wait to see the finished product. Great video as always!
Beautifully made video! And what a fun adventure, thanks for sharing.
Loved following this flight and so Excited to see what your upgrades will Reveal!!
Hey Josh, thanks for the tip on the glasses. You and 80991 have come a long way. I recognize your sweatshirt from that West Coast trip with your instructor. Your documenting the panel upgrade is most helpful. Thanks for answering some of the commenters throughout their many responses rather than a few at the beginning. I know it’s alot of work but 274k subscribers is alot of work. Ten years of You Tube coming up! Congratulations!
Congrats! Getting better and better!
Say hello to Jake from Daytona Aicrafts, he’s the man!
You deserve more subs! The video felt so well put together and flowed very nicely. Great job!
Freaking awesome video. I am so happy for you getting all those incredible upgrades! You've earned it man.
Flyer 👋
just watched!!!!!!! can't wait to see how it turns out. keep up the amazing work.
These more flight technical videos are my favorite, and this was a nice mix. I have been watching since before “the interview” that changed the channel. I have a 1976 172M, close to your vintage on 991. I’m very interested to see the upgrades. See you at OSH.
Watching this as I am going to be up in the air myself in a couple hours! Love the content, Josh
Happy wet bucket
Fantastic video as always, Josh. We already can't wait for Part 2! 🍿
Wow congrads! I saw a lot of improvement on your plane! Going to be nice for sure!
Good content is more than just video footage of flying. Excellent work. You're getting pretty good at this! This is documentary quality.
Great video Josh as usual your editing is first class. Looking forward to the next video. Safe travels
Very cool! Can’t wait to watch the upgrade process. Who needs TV and the garbage shows when RUclips has content like this! Your videos whet my appetite to FLY!
Super excited to see the transformation! Keep up the great work.
KECP is a pretty busy airport. I used to fly the CR7 into there from DFW often, I cannot believe the operations they have setup for banner towing drop/pickups right parallel to the main runway. Would make our TCAS go crazy every time! Great video!
I love your cross country videos. Entertaining and very educational as well. And just WOW on the upgrades!
Well done tight video that has great production values and high quality photography...look forward to the rest of the series...
