- Personal minimums are a huge deal in aviation, and they are worth nothing if you don't force yourself to stick to them. We waited in the FBO for 3 HOURS for the ceilings to satisfy my personal minimums! Sometimes, patience proves its worth.

"just because you have the legal ability to go, doesn't mean you should".....Josh, for a young man your wisdom in these matters does not go unnoticed. After following Air Safety Institute's videos of weather related IMC fatal accidents, I hope you never change your approach to this. I can't help but feel that Dan's AQP program has helped immensely. I suspect there are literally 1000s of IFR rated pilots in GA that do not take this approach before launching and the results can be tragic. Keep up the good work. And yes all 235K heard Chelsea call you "babe". Not keeping this quiet any longer 👍😀
My dad was a veteran flight instructor and examiner. He always said "You're much better off down here wishing you were up there rather than up there wishing you were down here". He also said if you had any doubts then don't go. His advice and other mentors have kept me out of trouble so far.
Another great video thanks Josh.
11:35 Josh, I am a pubescent 16 year old but in my 30 hours of flying, I have never had a voice crack this bad on frequency.
Thank you. Made my morning.
@@DJ99777 I'm glad
yes
@Confidential Confidential gotta love RUclips and the trolls coming from "Confidential Confidential" - obviously you are the best pilot and judge of pilot performance in the world.
Great one, Ryan! The same happened at 18:11. LOL
I think a lot of ADM in GA flying means keeping your "ego" in check, especially when there's a social media presence involved. Just because you can doesn't mean you should, great video man!
that look she gave Josh at 18:48 hahaha
Hmmmm...maybe more than just a friend??
Hahahaha he cut whatever made her do that out of the vid lolol
Right, and also she says nice landing babe later on!
I noticed the same thing lol
I was just getting on comments to post that same thing. She’s into it
26:27 what are you not telling us Josh? 😏 Love the videos. Always enjoy them
"I try not to be stupid about it" Best GA slogan ever right there.
17:42 That smile a pilot gets on their face when a passenger compliments the landing....
Sounded like Daytona tower was having a pizza party in the background lol
It always sounds like that
@@brandonaviationhd straight partying
Controllers there at DAB roast students and pilots all day long. I’ve waited 45 minutes to get through to clearance and get taxi in a freaking 172. Frequently here”number 7 cleared to land” 🤣
was now looking through the comments for this
Recently saw Chelsea on Taking Off (Episode 127, 04/16/2021), speaking about the state of A&P industry. It was great to see her there too! Anyway, thank you for your continued efforts to elevate safety awareness in the GA community. You're a rock star.
I thought she looked familiar!
That's where I saw her. I couldn't figure that out,
“That’s a straight hell no for me” 😂😂😂
So cool to see you land in Daytona. I got my instrument there at ERAU working on my commercial now, great video!
24:22 “BUH-doop” 😂🤣😂
I love the whole opening and the changes in your format and presentation. Good work Josh!
I've been flying since 78, and you're one of the most meticulous pilots I've ever seen. Love these videos.
Just finished my IFR cert, thank you for being the best entertainment and learning along my aviation career. Best of wishes, keep up the good work!
I love your videos they get better every time. Thanks so much for making my day and so many others say so much better.
"Autopilot off" sound was insanely adorable. :)
Thanks soooo much Josh !! I just love your content, it keeps me fresh on a lot of things.
Love your advice about taking off in fog. More people need to hear that over and over again. Just because it can be done, doesn't mean it should be done. Always that chance for engine failure or some other need to return to an airport you may not be able to see. Hope to see you at ACCA Josh.
Thanks for sharing this Josh. I think a lot of us can learn from something like this, and it's brave to share things like this since you know people will think otherwise!
I have to say, doing this much XC/single pilot IFR without an autopilot is impressive. Love these videos dude!!
Chelsea is pretty. Outstanding video. I can't fly anymore and you guys really brighten up my days. Thank you so very much. Great aircraft to go just about anywhere you want. I love the 172 Skyhawks.
Love the highlight of wise decision making: "just because you could doesn't mean you should" :)! Thank you so much Josh, that could save a lot of lives!
You are an inspiration Josh
Another great day flying, Josh. Nice 👍 instrument work and ,as always, nice radio work. It looked like a beautiful day on top with smooth air and not a lot of wind to fight. Good 😌 job !
Definitely a really nice flight. Thanks for sharing this with us Josh. I look forward to the next one.
Nice flight Josh, glad you had good company for the trip. Waiting for the next one!
Thanks again for another great video. I love your flying.
I'm no expert by any stretch, but watching your videos is really helping me understand aviation. I've found lately that many times when I learn of an accident etc, that as I take the info you've taught, and I do research on the data involved, I'm able to figure out what happened most of the time. When I read the conclusions, the estimations I had formed from the data of what likely happened are frequently correct. You bring a lot of great knowledge and wisdom to aviation. Thank you for this and your videos. 👍
Also just wanted to add... try not to let Chelsea go man. You'd both be winners on that one. I mean, she's calling you babe man. Wow...Run with it dude.
Your very professional in how you approach your flights. What a great example for new pilots.
I liked the intro. Good ADM is what makes a professional pilot. Thanks for sharing.
Been watching for years had a 6 year break in my flight training went on my first flight last Thursday in those six years ordered my Zulu 3’s today not letting anything stop me this time I’m hoping to be in for my check ride with in a month😇 wanted to thank you for keeping me sane during my forced hiatus. Always great videos
Honestly I love flying instruments, and when I’m not I enjoy these videos. Thanks for sharing! 😄
I'm a flight sim nut who can't get my ticket due to a long-term medical issue. I actually seek out bad weather, low mins, practice VOR (and even NDB) approaches by hand. Don't get me wrong: Not saying that is preferable in the real world. But, I often do enjoy the IFR experience.
Very, very nice. I appreciate your concern for safety.
Great vid. Just got my IR and haven't had any actual yet but this is a great example for its use!
Thanks for sharing these wonderful flying experiences with the rest of us.
I love your comment Josh, that you "might have skills to help you fly IFR" but you "aren't going to be stupid about it.". Just because you can fly in limited visibility with your IFR rating and excellent skills doesn't mean you should. And I think your explanation about this was very good for pilots to understand safety and common sense should be a major factor for determining your actions.
Those of us who are not pilots do this all the time when storms or fog come on the ground, deciding whether we can safely drive and navigate through the storm. Sometimes we see those who do not exercise this common sense end up a statistic.
It's great seeing you teaching by example as well as by explanation so you and Chelsea can enjoy your trip.
Nice flight Josh. Appreciate your decision making. Thank you for bringing us along.
Takeoffs are optional. Landings are mandatory.
Thanks for this video. Your videos are so professional.
Great video! Thanks!
An excellent video. Technical values and goals; clear, responsible strategy. Model risk policy and management.
Great flying and excellent decision making!
definitely clicked on this video because I got all my certificates at Riddle in DAB. gave me goosebumps to see you land there - oh the memories. Great Video!
Excellent video again Josh
Good ADM on the ground prior to departure, sir. Thanks for the demo and the explanation. Just because you can legally launch into the soup doesn’t mean you should. If you must execute an emergency turnaround in IMC you may be doubling your workload and stress to make a must-do landing at (or below!) minimums. 👍
Nice video. Thanks for creating them!
I love your aviation videos, they are funny like James Asquith's. He makes funny skits too, so underrated.
Hello from India Josh! Enjoy your videos. Keep em coming.
26:26 ooooo she called him "babe"
yeah did I miss something? their dating?
Caught that too 👀
Had a bit of a fist pump when I heard it. So proud 🥲
You could tell in his voice after that he seemed surprised too lol. Cracked a smile when I noticed it
“BABE” Confirmed.
that VR-54 C-130t on the ramp
i love the Hercules
That landing was an absolute greaser! Great video Josh!!
it’s interesting how particular you are about things. i’m not that way at all but everyone definitely has their style. i’m not a details guy just a big picture guy
Excellent stuff bro
Love the new intro!
Neat trick to go direct to the end of the runway as requested. I’ll use it someday!
Great flight! Great video!
Very well done!
Great flying!
Thanks for the ride along!
Awesome video so far! I had to cancel a training flight of mine a few hours ago because of some afternoon thunderstorms that popped up
Love the steamboat hat!!
Man i've never seen a greccer like that
Great work Aviation101
I'm a student pilot and I've been following you for a while thank you for your quality decision making it definitely shows good character and that showing off stuff is just plain stupid have a wonderful week
I loved watching your approach into Daytona! I hope to someday study Aeronautical Engineering at Embry-Riddle in Daytona Beach.
Best video opener... "that's a straight hell no for me." LOL!
A good practice I've learned during my IFR training was to calculate whether you would see your runway at your lowest ceiling for a given runway glideslope/glidepath. Let's say your WX is OVC005 at 1000meters and your MNM is 200ft. For a 3° glide (which is equal to 300ft/NM), it would mean that even though you break out of the clouds above your MNM at 500ft, you still wouldn't see the runway until you're down at 162ft (which is below your MNM!). For the math:
At MNM 200ft, distance from threshold for a 3° glide = 1235m.
So, at 1000m, you're at 162ft.
If you plan and to the quick math you could consider to divert before even attempting an approach even though your MNMs looks fine and legal.
Hope this makes sence!
Nice one Josh!
Other than fueling my aviation interests and bettering my understanding as an instrument student, your videos really help me with decision making.
🤔 Notice the"lovebugs" on board!.. 19:59 😍🐞😄 👍
Can't stop laughing, "that's a straight, hell no for me."
I'm gonna solo while wearing one of your t shirts soon 💪💪💪
I also plan to go to night x-country to Daytona at night. Weather of North and Northeast of Florida at night has been so bad lately. So I'd have gone NW side. hopefully weather is going to be fine tomorrow.
I couldn’t even feel the touchdown on the camera! What a GREACER!
When I was doing my instrument training GA approaches were generally 500' minimums. I think it was my second IFR training flight that we entered IMC with a 500' ceiling. I like your personal minimums. It'll help keep you and yours out of the newspaper. :) I'll always regret not finishing my ticket. I was so close... I'll get back to it...
I liked the autopilot disconnect sound lol
Josh: "I want to use the RUclips channel to show what responsible ADM is like."
Also Josh: "100LL or Jet A... how fast do we want to go??"
Hahaha great video as always!!!
Cram, climb, clean, click, communicate. 5 c’s. I’ve not heard that one before. Thanks Josh. 🤟
Might the first "C" be crab? Not sure what cram might refer to.
Stephen Robinson Cram the power and carb heat forward.
Very nice!
Great vlog (as always) Josh. Nice use of your instrument rating and nice greaser into Daytona. Just interested, can you adjust your settings to see traffic speed on your EFB? The reason I ask, I’m using AvPlan EFB in Australia and we get traffic callsign, altitude differential and speed. Cheers, Andy
The fish hatchery is a waste water treatment plant , Taper Nose Brown Trout ;-) Great video Thanks!
I'm retaking my IRA written tomorrow, looking forward to being able to see what the inside of a cloud looks like. Also, based on my Google Maps sleuthing, I'm pretty sure those ponds at 19:40 are part of the Georgia Pacific Paper Mill in Perry, FL
that landing in daytona you know that was a super slick grease landing :)
I like the camera angle out the back window
Not being a pilot I appreciate your knowledge and your cautious approach to your flying. I am a great fan of Dan Gryder and his mission.
And I was wondering on your relationship with Chelsea until she solved the riddle by saying Bab 👶 safe travels.
Woah never been this early, love the videos!!!
My Dads favourite says was"Got time to spare? Go by Air! More time yet go by Jet!
AQUQU I love how the controller refused to even try haha
Destin!
Around here in Florida we sometimes call that hole in the clouds the "Moses approach" lol.
Question, Does the amount of recording equipment in your plane affect your Mag compass? great Video!
Perry 40j is were we had our last plane about 10 years ago 😎👍✅
Luthers red & white 1972 Cessna 150L appearing to be in front of your plane @ 18:30 🕡
That “PLANT” is a paper mill, pulp wood plant, it use to be Buckeye when we use to fly out of there
I think it’s Georgia Pacific now, it changes hands every 15 years or so and YES.. it Stinks 😷 19:48
awesome! I live about 1 mile from the daytona airport!
Nice hat! 👍
On mixture adjustment. Dont wind in hard . Just push in the last small amount of movement to full full rich . Why__ its easy to wind a small steel ball in a alloy groove past a safe wear point. depend on the Vernier though . Take out from Joshes. Check 24.26
Nice vid Josh! What's the device on the top right side of the dash? Looks like a wireless modem?
Hi Josh, question if taxiing from Atlantic to an “A” intersection takeoff on runway 11 rather than “C” intersection nd then have n extra 5000’+ or 9K to almost 10K of additional runway for takeoff if you had any engine troubles in the low IFR ceilings? My instructor and FAA checkride doesnt allow leaving runway behind us? Love your videos and places you fly to; thanks.
“Autopilot --- off”
Chelsea: bee boop
Me thinking, “I wish my autopilot looked that good”.
10:50 nice
12:15 good choice
Seeing ATP in the end of the video made me smile. The KDAB ATP is where I completed my flight training just last year. I have such great memories that I made at that school 🙂 Great video!
