It is the big difference between being in your 20s and your 40s+, regarding validation. It is definitely a learning curve. Thats why aging is so great. You stop caring as much because, with time, you realize that validation is irrelevant. Good feedback can be as toxic as bad feedback. Because you rely on others to define who you are. And you need that in you 20s because you dont know yourself yet. The 20s are sooo hard. We have sooo much to figure out and learn and we are sooo impatient. We cant rush the process.
I was thinking the same as I watched this perspective. I remember being at times paralyzed by fear of what others thought of me. In my fifties, I have never felt so free in my own skin. Nathaniel, you are so wise beyond your 25 years!
I’m 41 and after being destroyed by ppl, I am finally free. I do not care anymore. This is the best feeling ever. I regret even thinking about other peoples opinions about me. I see how stupid and illogical it was.
So then.... Not having experiences would be a failure. There are always needs, goals, etc. And fulfilling or reaching them; regardless of how humble is still a success. We can be successful at running a business, raising a family, growing a flower, cooking a meal, being lazy, and being homeless. It's all the same process. Where we focus our energy, time, and skill, is where we succeed. Or... The entire opposite analogy and we fail. But that's the nuts and bolts of it.
"Be a fool. You will come out the other side knowing something new." I literally wrote this for myself just a few weeks ago. I've started a new job that often leaves me feeling silly and useless. It takes so much effort to even ask a question- I'm so terrified of being dumb. But that's the only way any of this will be worth it. Thank you for a stellar video
The point is that we can't just be applauded because we did something. He ( @nathanieldrew ) speaks in a way that his ideas automatically invite an informed audience to question those ideas - duality and dialectic. If we don't question, none of us grows (including him). He plans on having a "salon;" that can't exist without the back and forth of challenge. If he (or anyone) never hears (and entertains) opinions that differ he's just shouting into an echo chamber. I'm proud to be a part, in my small way, of his global salon; and I will always bring to the table what life has shown me. That intermingling is, as they say, fire.
This video. Is honestly. A piece of art. Please never stop making videos on such topics. The whole topic resonated with me. Even the comment section is so interesting to read because you get to know everyone's different interpretations.
I read Tarot and have a few decks. Everyday I pull one card for guidance. This morning I pulled the fool card. And now I see your video talking about the fool archetype. I just love when synchronicities like this happen.
was a synchronicity for me too! i've been reading + pulling tarot cards too and these days illustrating my own, starting with the Major Arcana and thus the Fool. last night was also reading a book that started with the actual profound symbolism of the fool. and clicked on Nathaniel's video today. it's so cool!!
Social media has given us access to instant validation from people we’ve never met, it can get addicting. I’m trying to switch my mindset to chase deeper community connections online rather than just validation from numbers.
Well said. Social media ruined social relationships even more. I feel socially inept because I'm so addicted to social media. I come off awkward now when I try socializing. And this makes me even more fearful of being rejected.
You are one of the few people on the whole web who touches my soul and my priorities in life, thank you for your content, we need more of the down to earth contents!
Needing people's validation has been an internal struggle for me. I realized that whether or not I get the validation I was looking for, I feel heavy on the inside. My happiness depended on how other people react. It is impossible for us to control others' judgements and reactions toward us. So, when I try to orchestrate getting approval from people, it feels draining. I have been reminding myself that people's opinions are not my responsibility, and I now put my focus on living my life the way I prefer, moment by moment.
00:40 THANK YOU. This is so rare for people in the media to actually admit. It's always "I went through this, but I´m over it now", which defeats the purpose of trying to level with someone and connect with your audience. Being vulnerable in the present moment is what makes a good role model in my opinion.
There is a saying, people in their 20-30"s care what people think, people in their 40's realize that it isn't important to care what people think, and people in their 50's and beyond realize that nobody really cared about them to begin with.
Validation is a tricky part of our life. Having none of it or depending too much on it can be damaging for our mental health. But, having some of it is needed for our mental survival. It is indeed a double edge sword.
"Life is an open world game. Make the most out of it. Explore the unknowns and Thrive my friend" I am putting this here as this is the reminder we need to not let ourselves sink into the compulsive thought patterns we usually do. More power to you. ❤💪
I think anytime we play a fool in our life, we are actually showing the most authentic version of ourselves. It's never easy, but we always seem to grow the most and become a fuller version of who we already are. Thank you for sharing and shining light!!
Thanks so much for this video! This exact day I'm watching it I had a therapy session about the way I see failure and how I end up being extremely hard on myself just for being afraid of others' opinions and criticisms. Please continue doing what you do, you are certainly helping thousands of people in their self-awareness journey...me included. Ps: this is the first comment on a RUclips video in ages, maybe that's me starting to be a fool!!
I have been feeling down lately with chasing my dreams. I finish my service in the Army and people judged me for getting out and chasing a dream :/ thank you. Nathaniel again for these great videos.
To be the fool deal with pain is needed. Deal with harm thrown at you. Not everyone will but some so so a great inner strength needs to be developed. That strength is the one that keeps you bigger than the haters. You allow yourself to be a fool when you can love yours self and know how to push yourself up no matter what happens around you.
This was a a massive help. All my girlfriends abandoned me and criticized me and put names on me in this last year of college. I do not know their reasons, but I have no hate for no one. And thanks this was a beautiful reminder. A big fan of u I am it's been years. You never fail to inspire and help my little world. Much love .
The production quality Nathaniel has in his videos take his story telling to a whole new level. Thank you for being the life coach/big brother we all need
You're fortunate to be figuring this out at a young age. Too many people spend their whole life worrying about what others think, when in reality most of them are thinking about themselves and not about you. Be who you are and follow your own path; the people who truly do care will respect you for it.
Seeking Validation sometimes comes from a deep sense of insecurity.. when we know our potential we no longer need acceptance or validation from others…❤
2:27 If someone ridicules you for being wrong, ask them why they ridicule, you think when I admit I am wrong this is something I feel negatively about? It is a development, the fact they see it as anything else tells a lot more about them and their fear of failure then it does mean, tell them to look within themselves - they're revealing their failures and their veiw on them - shame.
It's a perspective shift with age. First you care about your image, then you don't and later yet, you understand that nobody really cared, cause everybody is thinking about themselves most of the time.
I love how you always post a video of exactly what's been on my mind lately. Thanks for being you Nathaniel, you've been one of my greatest inspirations to put myself out there. Perhaps the "need for validation" is actually a good thing in moderation because it gives us the drive to keep putting ourselves out into the world, hence inspiring others around us to rise up into our highest potential. 🤔
This beautiful video reminds me of my favorite quote: "Often times, a person will think they know you by piecing together tiny facts and arranging those pieces into a puzzle that makes sense to them. If we don’t know ourselves very well, we’ll mistakenly believe them, and drift toward where they tell us to swim, only to drown in our own confusion. Here’s the truth: it’s important to take the necessary steps to find out who you are. Because you hold endless depths below the surface of a few facts and pieces and past decisions. You aren’t only the ripples others can see. You are made of oceans.” - Victoria Erickson
life would be so boring if everything went well with no hardships 😃 the tough part is LIVING through the failure in the moment but once you overcome it, you feel good and grateful for the journey
Not being dependent on validation is like a muscle that needs constant training. It’s funny you say you care a lot about validation but the evolution of your work is proof that you keep pushing through it. By fearlessly filming outside, sharing quotes, music, inner fears. Sometimes we have to look back to see how far we’ve come
I’ve spent many years worrying what others think of me, why they don’t like me & what I can do about it. Your last comment resonated so much because I realised I can’t change what someone thinks. I can however do as much as I can to minimise any contact with those individuals, ignore their put downs & finally do what’s right for me.😊
I felt inspired to comment a few days later again. I really love you, from one soul to another. You have a way with words that's uncanny to people in my immediate environment and this just feels so on the nose with who I've been throughout my life and the way you've strung this story together, perfectly depicts the kind of explanation I've only longed to communicate with those around me to nether understand my inherent nature. Again, thank you for being you! You inspire so many of us to get outside of our comfort zone! Thank you for that! ❤️
Everyone is spitting wisdom here and there!!! Ok!!! The misery goes on and on! The suffering goes on and on! Just try to reduce it often! Hypotheses won’t fix anything! And yea it’s just an exaggerated, ignorant hypotheses mostly!!!! All the talkings! Shit won’t stop! The inevitable and the uncontrolled (which is most of life) won’t stop to affect us………!!! Difficulties, complication, oppression, pain, enslaving!!! Most things do that hardly!!!
I'm in my 40s now and while I definitely still need validation it's lessemed drastically from my earlier years. "I used to walk into a room and wonder if they would like me. Now I walk into a room and wonder if I will like them."
Life is just a long journey of multiple existences where we collectively thrive to learn and expand. Without failure, you can’t grow. Everyone has to go through the whole cycle in order to advance, we all start as fools, some may still be stuck t at the start while others will start head on and embrace it. I was stuck for so many years, but at some point I decided not to be a voluntary prisoner of others.
We're social creatures and validation is normal, but appreciate you being honest and vulnerable. Shows that just because one "makes it" by conventional standards doesn't mean self doubt vanishes overnight
"The fool is unafraid to aim high. To face the unknown. To try new things AND THEREFORE THEY ARE DESERVING OF CHANGE." This lives rent free in my head.
Thé fact that 1.6 million people admire respect & follow you because you Mr . Drew are a gift to the world. If You ever disappoint anyone ever it’s ok you are human it can happen but I’m sure it will just help you grow more you are too wise for your age slow down my friend your journey is long no need to rush .. breathe relax and laugh more you need just to enjoy in the little things.the world can wait.we appreciate You !!!
There's something so beautiful and captivating about the way you share your content, it speak to the deepest parts of me, entertains me, teaches me..... I could watch u for hours and not get bored!
You're a beautiful person, Nathaniel. Burn bright! And may your light burn long, clean, and true. You bring me back to my first revelations as a youth. And for that, I truly thank you. 💖
Great video! The fool is an explorer or an adventurer. He or she is extremely curious and doesn’t care what others think. The fool is basically unstoppable.
so insightful message he gaves to us. There is only "I" fighting with our own life at the last so we should make right choices in time to stand out better in the battle🙌. People are obviously fool and you all are iff you run your life acc to the others judgements.
Ma'am, I have got two questions for you, and I will be more than glad if you could reach out to me with your answers. Do you think passion/interest is necessary in order to start something new, for example, If I want to be a photographer or say a data scientist, etc, adding to this fact that I am choosing such a career just to earn money because I left with no choice but to do anything to earn money, then do you think I will be successful? My second question is, do you think with hard work you can achieve something in your life if you are not good at studies( below average) Last question( sorry I mentioned 2 in the beginning- do you believe in the tarot cards? , Thank you, ma'am, 🙏🙏
Damn it Nathaniel. That poem at the end made me fucking cry! But thank you. I see a lot of myself in you, I relate deeply to so many of the topics you talk about, and honestly this video came at a perfect time for me. It gave me a lot to think about and I feel a bit more clarity. So thank you for being a "friend" on the internet that I can turn to from time to time. I hope someday I get to properly thank you in person :)
Thank you for this beautiful piece of work! This reminds me of the book "The Courage to Be Disliked" that interprets the theories of Alfred Adler, which I think resonate with your idea of 'FOOL'
Needing validation is what we learn as a child. Becoming a mature adult relieves us of that burden. As we are all ignorant about so many things all our lives, let me share two of my favorite quotes about fools with you. First from Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonald (The Doobie Brothers): “What a fool believes he sees, no wiseman has the power to reason away.” Second: “Only fools and dead men never change their minds. Fools won’t. Dead men can’t.” John Henry Patterson It’s fun watching you evolve in ways I did around your age. There is so much more exciting stuff to experience, both happy and painful that will come your way. Just try to remember, if you wake up in the morning, it’s a great day. Happy New Year
Nathan, as someone who is on a similar point in life as you are, your videos have always been illuminating and timely. I have also struggled with validation my whole life and only recently started realizing how unsustainable and unhealthy it can be. This video was a much needed and the timing couldn't have been more perfect. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and lessons about life! Keep up the good work!
You are wonderfully young. You will learn and gain experience addressing these challenges. You have the advantage of self awareness, which is essential to learning and living life well.
Coincidentally, this Fool's perspective of the Tarot has been on my mind for some time. What serendipity it was to find this video. Thank you, Nathaniel.
Stunning poem on The Courage to Be Disliked. You're a philosopher of our time. Thank you for sharing this and giving us the courage to be our foolish selves.
You're wise beyond your years. You always have a very interesting perspective. Everyone has the fool in them and the fool stays with us for the rest of our lives. I think that's a very good thing because that foolish energy is what makes life worth living.
"In many ways, somebody's conclusions say more about them than they do about you." Such an extraordinary quote, couldn't agree more! Although I'm young, one of the things I've realized in life is that everyone suffers from some degree of ethnocentrism, therefore making it impossible to be aproved by everyone. On the other hand, it is natural for us humans to try to be likeable to everyone. Life has changed a lot in these past years, we have to give us some time in order to process some things. For now, what I'm doing and would advise everyone to do is, as typical as it sounds, just try to be yourself, as doing that will attract people that genuinely like you and are compatible with you. Much love!
You young Nate are on your way to being A GROWN ASS MAN. I was once where you are and trusted myself enough to keep going and I love my life. Keep pushing baby you are well on your way.
It is the big difference between being in your 20s and your 40s+, regarding validation. It is definitely a learning curve. Thats why aging is so great. Very true!
From a 51 year old I agree 100%!
From a 52 year old, I absolutely agree! Ageing is liberating.
5:19 "Life actually doesn't just have to be about success and failure. It can simply be a serious of experiences to be had."
So then.... Not having experiences would be a failure. There are always needs, goals, etc. And fulfilling or reaching them; regardless of how humble is still a success.
We can be successful at running a business, raising a family, growing a flower, cooking a meal, being lazy, and being homeless. It's all the same process. so powerful
"Be a fool. You will come out the other side knowing something new." I literally wrote this for myself just a few weeks ago. I've started a new job that often leaves me feeling silly and useless. It takes so much effort to even ask a question- I'm so terrified of being dumb. But that's the only way any of this will be worth it. Thank you for a stellar video
ive been trying to build up the courage to apply at this job near me, and your comment gave me the peace of mind i needed. thank you stranger
"Be a fool. You will come out the other side knowing something new"
I think this will be my "sentence of the year" for 2023
Pure magic. Nathaniel, you are the wisest 25-year-old I've ever seen. Please, keep up your work.
- 48 year old fool
I echo that as a nearly 60 year old fool. Your insights are very important.
let's not exaggerate PS. and you're xx young, age is just a word :-)
You are terrify of ridicule and rejection and you have an youtube channel?
You are strong
“Do not harden your heart, your heart needs no protection!” Ahh loved it this so much! That poem was incredible so much wisdom inside it
I loved it, too. ',,, your heart needs no protection1'
Can we just admire how vulnerable he is being, infront of thousands of people.
I wish I had that courage!
You just validated him.
"The fool didn't know it was impossible, so he did it."
It has been my favourite quote ever since I came across it.
I just love when synchronicities like this happen.
was a synchronicity for me too! i've been reading + pulling tarot cards too and these days illustrating my own, starting with the Major Arcana and thus the Fool. last night was also reading a book that started with the actual profound symbolism of the fool. and clicked on Nathaniel's video today. it's so cool!!
seriously!! how could such a young have so much wisdom????
I'm crying watching this
Social media has given us access to instant validation from people we’ve never met, it can get addicting.
Took a listen to this while waking up this morning with a heavy heart, feeling like a failure. Grateful I'm not the only one!
00:40 THANK YOU. This is so rare for people in the media to actually admit. It's always "I went through this, but I´m over it now", which defeats the purpose of trying to level with someone and connect with your audience. Validation is a tricky part of our life. Having none of it or depending too much on it can be damaging for our mental health. But, having some of it is needed for our mental survival. It is indeed a double edge sword.
Well said👌
So true
"Life is an open world game. Make the most out of it. Explore the unknowns and Thrive my friend"
I am putting this here as this is the reminder we need to not let ourselves sink into the compulsive thought patterns we usually do.
More power to you. ❤💪
I think anytime we play a fool in our life, we are actually showing the most authentic version of ourselves. It's never easy, but we always seem to grow the most and become a fuller version of who we already are. Thank you for sharing and shining light!!
Nathaniel. In sobriety we learn the hard way that "What people think of us is NONE of our business !!"
The way you talk and articulate yourself to your audience is truly a gift. this is what you were put on this earth to do. thank you for sharing!!
Thanks so much for this video! This exact day I'm watching it I had a therapy session about the way I see failure and how I end up being extremely hard on myself just for being afraid of others' opinions and criticisms. I have been feeling down lately with chasing my dreams. I finish my service in the Army and people judged me for getting out and chasing a dream :/ thank you. Nathaniel again for these great videos.

I've never heard Tarot pronounced that way, with the emphasis on the first syllable. Interesting... ☘💪🏽👀👍🏽☘
Nathaniel, as a fellow human being struggling to find my way in this world, I really needed to hear this. Thank you. 🙏🏻
Dude. I've watched you for a long time. Your most recent videos are speaking to my soul. So appreciative to you and for your willingness to share.
I couldn’t agree more, Nathaniel’s hitting a new tier
Obsessed - I want you to have a podcast!
I like the poem in the final part. It’s beautiful and empowering. Also like the idea of “fool” by Jung, very vivid and useful concept to see failure
Wow man you deserve to have the brightest future for speaking to the souls of so many
The production quality Nathaniel has in his videos take his story telling to a whole new level. Thank you for being the life coach/big brother we all need
I agree! his content, topic, and production quality has vastly improved. I am thrilled witnessing his evolution
You're fortunate to be figuring this out at a young age. Too many people spend their whole life worrying about what others think, when in reality most of them are thinking about themselves and not about you. Be who you are and follow your own path; the people who truly do care will respect you for it.
As someone wise once said : “I’m not what I think I am, I’m not what you think I am. I am what I think you think I am.”
Endeavor to Send me a direct message here I'll coach you on somewhat Strategies📈..
I absolutely needed this. Thank you.

Seeking Validation sometimes comes from a deep sense of insecurity.. when we know our potential we no longer need acceptance or validation from others…❤
Just as you said it, now be the fool, who stops you,...he gives hope and energy of liberty

He’s a good soul. Bless him !
Beautiful Nathaniel! You Dare to be a Creator and a Maverick! Takes guts man, takes guts!! Critic's often are found sitting in the armchair!
So you were in the Netherlands . I recognized my old street and the river Vecht near Breukelen. Amazing choice for a powerfull message.
As a Tarot lover and Nathaniel enthusiast, I sooo enjoyed this. Studying the symbology of Tarot is a wild and interesting dive.
life would be so boring if everything went well with no hardships 😃 the tough part is LIVING through the failure in the moment but once you overcome it, you feel good and grateful for the journey

..but you will be free" That was beautiful Nathaniel
Wow! The poetic ending... that was so good. Thank you Nathan for all your curiosity, your pursuit of meaning & your quality content. Keep it up.
So great perspective - life doesn't actually have to be about success and failure rather it can be a series of experiences❤ thank you!
We're social creatures and validation is normal, but appreciate you being honest and vulnerable. Shows that just because one "makes it" by conventional standards doesn't mean self doubt vanishes overnight

This was layered, deep, and creative. One of your best.

Incredible quality and very thought provoking, thank you.
one of the most beautiful videos!! and so amazing and inspiring words at the end!!!
so insightful message he gaves to us.
My second question is, do you think with hard work you can achieve something in your life if you are not good at studies( below average)
Last question( sorry I mentioned 2 in the beginning- do you believe in the tarot cards?
, Thank you, ma'am, 🙏🙏
This is one of my favorite videos! Will definitely save for later
It is impossible not to care what other people think! We are a social species. We are wired to crave to be liked as our survival depends on it
Damn it Nathaniel.
The poem at the end is absolutely incredible. Please release this online somewhere so we can read it again and again!

First from Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonald (The Doobie Brothers):
“What a fool believes he sees, no wiseman has the power to reason away.”
Second:
“Only fools and dead men never change their minds. Fools won’t. Dead men can’t.” John Henry Patterson
It’s fun watching you evolve in ways I did around your age. There is so much more exciting stuff to experience, both happy and painful that will come your way.
Just try to remember, if you wake up in the morning, it’s a great day.
Happy New Year
“A few words on God” is your best video.
I jus had to say it.
blown away w each video you put out. beautiful words! i love the idea that we are all the fool
What a liberating nugget of wisdom. Much needed perspective. Thanks for that, Nathaniel. 🙏❤
Coincidentally, this Fool's perspective of the Tarot has been on my mind for some time. What serendipity it was to find this video.
Thank you, Nathaniel.
Thanks for this. I am struggling to stay here in this world, but you make a good argument for continuing.
Thank you for your closing words 🥺❤️
Stunning poem on The Courage to Be Disliked. You're a philosopher of our time. Thank you for sharing this and giving us the courage to be our foolish selves.
You're wise beyond your years. You always have a very interesting perspective. Everyone has the fool in them and the fool stays with us for the rest of our lives. I think that's a very good thing because that foolish energy is what makes life worth living.
I love that you are validating yourself, for that is the only validation required.
THIS. VIDEO.
I don’t know if this is just a “right place, right time” coincidence, but I haven’t loved a video like this in a long, long time.
“You can’t win against fools.” from the end of Princess Mononoke :) iykyk
Much love!
You made me cry! Thank you for the kind and true words at the end!
I get excited about life when I watch your videos
the last scene gave me chills, it's art, thank you
You young Nate are on your way to being A GROWN ASS MAN. I was once where you are and trusted myself enough to keep going and I love my life. Keep pushing baby you are well on your way.
Beautiful beautiful words at the end. Inspiring. Thank you, though you would not know it, for the impeccable timing.
I cannot be grateful enough to watch this video in a right moment… thank you for a masterpiece!
