Great playing captain!!! Loved that strat tone. Awesome little blind test. Great video. Cheers from California.
Huge fan of all videos and music and everything you guys do. Love that its just guitars so nothing steals from the products you are presenting but ever thought about having drums and bass maybe. Especially amp demos to demonstrate giggability (made that word up). Keep up the great work guys and Chappers keep on shredding!
They have a bass channel and a drum channel, or they did last time I felt perverted enough to look.
Having owned a BB for 10 years. Its my favorite OD Pedal, its got a tightness with a bit of crunch in the bottom end that can be slightly drive to heavily driven and always sounds good. One of those pedals I can stack and play metal or use slightly driven for bluesy rock stuff. I’d never get rid of that pedal.
The playing was on fire today from you guys!
This is exactly the video I needed!!!!!! Thank you!!! I've been wanting an A/B/C test of all these!
Great demo guys. I own the @pedal and use a voltage doubler to use it at 18 volts and it totally opens up the sound as it is also recommended by JHS.
One of the best tones I've heard in a while. The two amp combination is lush!
Who needs pedals when you’ve got that clean tone 😳
Great riffs from both Chappers and The Captain.
By tonight you will have 400k subscribers! Congratulations guys! Here’s to another 400k!!!!
500k now 🎈
Great playing as always. It did sound a bit like the Friedman amp wasn’t overly happy with this setup though. Sounded a bit like it was caving in on itself when the pedals were switched in.
Completely agree with your assessment, disagree with your conclusion. It was caving in and it sounded g l o r i o u s
Great playing from the Captain on the outro!
Agreed! The Cap'n has improved immeasurably over recent months.
Hey Wtf why did my comment making fun of the spam comment get removed instead of the spam comment?
12:00 I love that you did that ^^ It's easy to say you like something better because it's either new or what you're use to, but it's always good to have a reality check! :D
When comparing the two AT's it's worth noting that the components selected will most likely have a 10 or even 20% tolerance on their values so it's totally normal that two 'identical' pedals will sound subtly different. I'd be willing to bet that the circuit is exactly the same. Brian Wampler discusses this quite a bit on his channel
Some of the best tones this channel has ever had. Running a stereo rig just works.
Probs one of my favorite jams gents~! Good Stuff!
Congrats on 400k subs!
Own this.. Its killer. I use it on the clean of my 5150 III when I want more of that JCM sound. The boost is Andys TS if I'm not mistaken Josh mentioned it in one of his vids.
With all the problems in the World, its nice to escape..
Rob and the Capt thank you
Your video's make life more enjoyable !!
On The Pedal Show, Andy Timmons stated he uses the BB Preamp for the neck pickup and saves the @AT for the bridge.
Cap's playing in the outro is sublime 👌
I love my @. Great thing about it is you can get it to play nice with the bright cap in a blackface Fender playing around with the tone and air controls.
Please reenact the shoplifting incident. Great reason to get you all together to do some content - and I would really like to see you run after and catch 'Danish Pepe', that shifty guitar god! :) The law is about put an end to his pick-stealing shenanigans!
Awesome! That Friedman guitar sounds ace, in my opinion the second pedal is the best. On the 50watt setting.
"... some little Herbert...???" Apologies but that's not a term I've heard before. Glad you got your merch back! Keep 'em on the straight and narrow Cap'n!!
The Oxford English Dictionary has Herbert as 'An undistinguished or foolish man or youth.'
Thank you Sir.
I'd like all three......and that sick Freidman tele.......sweet tones!!!!
Go Captain on the outro - nice solo work!
Great pedals I love xotic it s a great pedal for me
chappers doing a fine impression of the great cornholio there.
I use the B.B. preamp to boost the @ pedal and it’s stellar!
Probably the best I’ve seen Rob play! FIYA! 🔥
Got some dirty R&B vibes in that last jam there. Solid playing from both! :D
Chapman ml3 pro traditional arriving today 👌
The BB is a great clean boost. Turn the drive all the way down, and volume to taste, eq to taste. It will give your cleans much more sparkle and depth, and really drive the dirt channel.
Add a little gain and volume to really drive a dirty channel.
Nice outro jam!
Cptn solo at the end was definitely the winner 👏🏻
Had the bb preamp.. pretty smooth high gain overdrive..
Some stella playing from the Captain on the outro. Nice and tasty.
Xotic makes a great product
Andy Timmons does not stack the two pedals, he uses the Bb preamp to boost the dirty channel of his Lonestar, and also to boost the clean channel for a light gain. But never together. Most of the time when he plays dirty he uses his AT pedal. For less gainy Marshall sounds he uses a Keely blues driver and his guitar volume knob. Cheers 🤓
he also has a Mesa 5 band eq that he uses for extra sustain as well. I literally just saw his pedal board two days ago and he's got a LOT of stuff on there:
JHS AT (original)
JHS The AT +
Keeley Blues driver
TS808 (old one, not the reissue)
BB Preamp AT (reissue version)
Mesa 5 band eq
and thats just the drive pedals.
The @ is a magic box... I love its tone!
Nice work guys. Can you please list the other gear you are using like guitar (Freidman?) amps, cabs ?
I just randomly checked for Miku while checking other stuff and JUST managed to time it when you could pre-order the last batch of Miku! I'm so happy I got one. No need to pay 600 euros on ebay...
I'd like to see your Suhr Eclipse pedal review. I didn't buy it yet, but it's sounds absolutely amazing on every youtube video, but somehow i'm still waiting to see your review, because i know it would be fun and honest :)
We all miss the capt and chappers tshirts 🚀🤘🏼
The BB preamp is superior in my opinion. However, you really need a Mesa Boogie Lonestar to get it to shine. 6L6 exclusive!
Lonestar clean channel boosted mostly is where he shines. Keeley blues driver always on I believe. But Andy uses melodic playing and far less notes to communicate the story, and adds tasty flourishes on top. The Freidman sounded bad to me. Fizzy. Very “not Timmons”. Both very good pedals though. Chappers you are a crazy talented picker. But too many notes for my simple brain. Love how you debunked the difference in the two JHS pedals Capt!
DenisMguitar A Lonestar has some serious tone juju all on it’s own; Pushing the clean channel on a Lonestar gets a great sound, but it’s very different than a Friedman, which, in this demo just doesn’t sound good.
It seems you have the two guitar amps panned at bit. I would notice the stereo field shifting a bit depending on the setting of the pedals. Nice pedals, btw.
Nice jam
Muito bom esses pedais bonito e elegante
How much does the lack of a Mid tone control matter compared to the newer Angry Charlie which has 3 band tone? Just debating between buying an Angry Charlie or an AT+ and the Mid control seems like something worth having.
19:49 best ever Leee soloing i've heard
Chappers on fayah in this video! 👌
Killer solo Cap'n
The BB sounds good to me and a lot more clear
Whitch one is better for clean tone ?
PLEASE try the pedals direct to an IR .... no AMP , im very curious about it ..... because as far as i now JHS AT and BB preamp both are amp based , so , they should work as an "amp" if connected directly to IR (maybe a virtual power amp too, as featured in Wall of sound from Two Notes)
was this recorded in stereo? sounded immense! Thought it was double tracked for a moment
Lee constantly proving a good solo is slow and heartfelt.
"can be" slow and heartfelt- "can be" being the pivotal term in that sentence. I've heard lots of fast, passionate solos that were just as good.
5:20 Sooo, two switchable resistors in series with the power rail? :P
Great video as usual, but what the fuck is that riff/lick at 3:42? I love it to pieces and want to know what its from, or if it is something Rob made up.
What fender amp was used at the outro with? That sound is awesome, I have a BB and would love to emulate that tone for sure.
It was the new Hot Rod Deluxe
Smitty Werbenjagermanjenson thanks man!
The difference between the two JHS pedals is most likely just the normal variance between two pedals. I used to build effects pedals, and in testing 100 of them back to back each one would sound slightly different from the next.
Xotic make the best boosters/drives on the planet if you're about reserving the tone of the guitar. I won;t go anywhere else.
5:08 thanks for the toggle, Pete
Rob ate a big bowl of shreddies cereal before this video. !
James Cirilli I know! Some serious chops in this demo...
Somethings wrong with the sound, sounds horrible, is clipping and is compressed, especially the Friedman! 😱🎸
Yup. The base tone sounded pretty poor at the start of the chain. Clarity is poor, sounds thin at the same time of trying to push out low end and farting out and then clipping. Adding pedals made it worse.
Yaroslava Nedoskazova piss off mate. This is a guitar channel. Hype your token elsewhere (and run the risk of it being a security not a utility)
dimmank agreed. The AT is one of the best distortion pedals around. The AT plus sounds kind’ve the same to me. But here it sounds horrible. Just like the atomic amplifier that sounds pretty great in person. But has made a few bad appearances here. FYI to compare a high gain pedal to the B.B. which is very low gain overdrive? Strange comparisons, 2 different types of pedals.
Yes, I'm not usually "that guy" with supposedly golden ears who moans about toanz, but that freidman amp sounded like gash I thought. Normally this channel sounds much better. I know the pedals sound better than this in real life
I think Rob has that style that makes almost everything sound bad :D. nothing against him but i'm still to hear a good sound coming out of his fingers. sorry for my lousy english
I believe the correct term would be a toggle switch, since you are toggling between the different watt stages.
Which is better: Angry Charley or Friedman BE-OD?
When you notice the BB has Comic Sans font for in and out...
Ouch. Now it's ruined!
Oh no! The worst font ever
I was gonna comment, beat me to it
All xotic brand pedals do don’t they
Oh that Strat tone
The addition of the mid tone control has made the JHS pedal better in terms of getting tones that are very different and dialed in, fast. The JHS Angry Charlie/AT is the finest single sided drive pedal available... We have to leave Analogman off the board. Just too good and oddly available price and wait time included.
Angry Charlie circuit is based on the old Marshall Guv’nor pedal.
What is the lick from 3:41? Sounds mighty tasty
Been waiting for a mention of the infamous andertons thief incident, we need the footage!!
HAHA. watch the Andertons sheriff, police camera action style. Did Lee say you're nicked pmsl. Glad he caught him in all seriousness it's people like that, that ruin it for the rest of us
Yeah I saw screen shots of the infamous incident on Instagram. Thought we'd at least get some footage of the cap in action. ☺
a like for the cap on fire on the end jam
"Some little herbert" haven't heard that phrase for a long time
whats the scales guys? awesome
Anyone know what mode Rob's playing at 3:49?
The new one feels more dirty and I like the booster!
Chappers, you're on fire, did you meet "him" at the cross roads and make the pact
?
I like how the coffee cup blows up and disappears 🤔
He Switched to the Neck pick up on the new AT Pedal.. When he said the older one sounded clearer. Careful boys
more guitar blindfold challenges please
7:53 i dont know about but I heard T-Bag hahahaha
Chapper’s clean tone is ridiculous
I am 100% okay with more Andy Timmons gear videos.
there's definately some phase problems with the sound.Sounds ghastly! throughout most of the video.( just to add, i have an Angry Charlie V3 and its bloomin great.)
Good tones guys, good tones.:)
Run down a thief??? Awesome!... but this is Britain! We want heads on spikes Sir!
that tone at the start, damn
On average pots can be 10% - 20% different. That's likely the subtle difference you are hearing.
Even 2 of the same exact pedals have 20% less-more on pots travel in knob position, so settings aren't always exactly the same
Andy Timmons, aaaahhhhhh angels singing, and whatnot, and so on ...Josh Scott...yeah, not so much
Andy Timmons - A guitar Demi gog
I thought I was the only one who noticed that Captain called him a demagogue(a politician who seeks power by appealing to people's fears and prejudices) instead of a demigod(half-man half-god).
You should have used an Ibanez AT to do the demo...
ANDY TIMMONS HAS THE BEST TONE...
What's a tacko?
I believe Andy sets his BB up with very low gain to boost his amp.
I mean the guitar!
F*** it Rob, u can can hammer it out!! Killer!
