Isuzu D-Max 2021 review: LS-U 4x4 off-road test

  • The Isuzu D-Max has always been a pretty solid ute in terms of reputation, reliability and value for money, but now that Isuzu has sorted out any issues from previous generations - overly firm ride, noisy engine, less-than-ideal off-road traction control and no diff-lock - are those changes enough to boost its appeal in a highly competitive ute market?

      @@sandman4life9119 yes youre right the ranger is much better to drive as i owned one before but it really depends on how we use our ute. Personally based on my experience the dmax may be slower and much more old school than the ranger but it never failed me bigtime. After thousands of kilometers the 4jj1 truck engine is still pulling like hell.theres a reason for that engine being underpowered; a b10 rating. Youre right though, the ranger is far more advance when it comes to features and technology but as of now i prefer a ute that gets me from point a to point b carrying heavy stuff for 10 years cause i cant afford to buy another ute.cheers mate! If i have the money for maintenance and the parts i would go for the ranger.

      That's easily fixed, buy the SX model and put the parts on yourself, take a look at what TJM already have on offer and let's just say they offer far more superior parts than oem and with full kit you will still be coming in under the cost of their top spec xterrain.

      @@jasonbunce7668 I wish that were true. I can’t see any additional off-road capabilities with that model. Have a look at what Ford US has done with the new Bronco (not the baby sports one). You can option it up like crazy. This makes life far better as everything is under the same warranty. No wasting parts - buy only what you want. And for Australia, this would mean you can have legal huge 35, 37 tyres, as they are standard equipment! Plus, life is good if you are leasing.

    • @jasonbunce7668
      @jasonbunce7668 3 года назад

      @@WhyWouldYouDrawThat for me I'm looking at getting the LS-U model as I will not buy an automatic 4x4.. nothing beats having the extra clutch control when doing serious offroading... and I plan on adding a 1-2inch lift, 33/10.5 tyres on 18" rims... and putting a full tray and custom canopy on it. Mods are possible on any car, and can turn most 4x4 into more serious versions.
      As far as the ranger goes, wont touch any model as they only come in auto..

    To be frank, i wish the industry media would stop asking for more road comfort and more tech in 4x4 vehicles. Its those things that become such a hassle once the vehicle is 5 + years old and its used remotely or off road a lot. If people want better road capability and comfort and more technology then buy an awd not a 4wd. Buy an suv not a ute.

    Ok so Toyota and Ford cost a lot more, Ford has zero customer service and the Ranger is too complex for there own mechanics to repair, they couldn’t even handle problems with Falcons, Toyota has a lot going for it with service and parts available all over the country but they have also been known to not look after customers with legitimate warranty issues and now there is the dpf issues and some say that the current fix isn’t good enough. I’d say that both the Hilux and Ranger have the edge off road but having the best off road capability is not essential in my opinion when all there are fairly close anyway. I think the reliability that I trust the DMAX will have like previous models is enough to trump the others even if I wasn’t cheaper.

      Totally agree with your informed comments Tim - would not touch a Ford or Holden with a barge pole - rubbish brands and crap service culture - I’ve owned six Subarus but they’re just too soft for what I want now for Aus touring hence Toyota Hilux but I can see the DMax has some good space to promote its much improved vehicle build and safety features that will give Ford and Toyota an ankle biting experience.

      What dpf issues are you talking about?? Are you just getting your info from anecdotal claims you get from forum?? Or maybe the dpf issues were the operators fault 99% because people weren't driving the vehicles how they should and to many women and grannies were driving Hilux's and to drop their kids off at school and to do the grocery shopping rather than using it as a workhorse as it was intended??... That sounds like more sense! I tell you what my Hilux is over 15 years old with over 350k on the clock and it still told like a clock!
      Will a ranger, Triton, or dmx stand the test of time like so many Toyota's have??

    Seems to be much better than current model. Hopefully its true. My experience using my vcross for 7 yrs along off road workplace. Trusted engine durability but the other part should be upgraded especially on its suspension (Vibration/bumping experience along the offroad at my workplace). Until now im replacing 3 times of shock absorber, 2 times of upper ball joint, and 1 time of steering rack 1 time lower ball joint and others.
    Handling on the road seems no issue at all except off road and hopefully they're upgraded then i'll wait to grab this new comming model.

But I still don’t believe it’s better than Toyota Hilux 2021 on most basic terms like Durability, money value, resale value, fuel economy, tough, toque, noise on the road, smoothness. But I can admit that it’s technology has increased further but Ute with tech rarely last long that’s why Ford ranger Wildtrack hasn’t reached ranks of Hilux yet has huge tech. Hilux man here
