      Live a few years of your life like most people wont, so that you can live many years of your later life.... like many people cant. During the work phase of life, you have to scrimp and save, to accumulate capital, to build a Retirement Investment Portfolio. Saving is postponing consumption. Most times, the convenience of a credit card allows you to spend money you dont have yet. Borrowing to spend on consumption is often a debt trap that we tend to inadvertently fall into. To make the right investments, you have to study a little bit about how to choose stocks for long term capital appreciation......

    Hi Yusof,
    Good talk. I will be retiring next week. Will follow your advise. 2nd life starting next week!

    • @YusufHashim
      @YusufHashim  2 месяца назад

      Hope you have passions and interests and friends who share those interests. Retirement can be a messy period of life, and upon retirement, you will go through 4 phases. It takes a bit of to and fro before reaching the fourth stage of retirement. Sadly some will not reach that stage.
      But that is another story for another time.

    Definitely most of us wants to live life the way he does it but we are limited by the lack of funds

    • @YusufHashim
      @YusufHashim  2 месяца назад

      During the work phase of life, dont just blindly work for your employer. Spend time and focus on building your Retirement Investment Portfolio (RIP) that can yield a Passive Income Flow (PIF) that will equal or at least reach 85% of your Last Drawn Salary (LDS). 100% is better. If you do NOT have a PIF of at least 85% of LDS, you really shouldn't retire, let alone thinking of travelling all over the world during Retirement. Building an Investment portfolio requires capital. Capital requires savings. Saving means postponing consumption during the work phase of your life. Can you save, say 25% or more of what you earn each month, and spend less that 75% of what you earn monthly? In order to live life during your retirement like most people CANT, you simply have to live several years of your working life, like most people WONT. Therein lies the answer to your lament of being limited by lack of funds. You simply have to consume less (ie postponing consumption) during the work phase of your life, in order to save, so that you will have capital to invest. For every RM100 that you earn, you need to have the will to save at least RM25 of each RM100 that you earn. Many people try to save 40% in order to retire early. But most people use credit cards and debt, to spend 120% of what they earn, and thereby go into debt.

    Yusuf, may i know when did you start to plan for your retirement life? And how did you achieve your financial freedom to go hand in hand with your dream..:) thank you..

      I'm a baby boomer. So our our early years were the difficult, early post-WW2 years, where life was tough, and saving for "a rainy day" was an overwhelming trait for many people. I started saving 10% of my salary from my fourth month's salary and later, saving even more. It wasn't painful at all. This is over and above the 10% for EPF and the company's contribution of 10%. So effectively, from almost the time I started working, at least 30% was diligently saved every month. To accumulate capital you have to save. Saving means postponing consumption. Once you have sufficient "seed" capital, from your saving, you will have to learn where and what to invest in, and how to "leverage" your seed capital. I guess I've been lucky in making a few "right" investments, leveraging capital with loans. You have to live many years of your working life like many people WONT, so that you can live many years of your later life like most people CANT. These days, with the availability of credit cards, most Gen X, Gen Y and Gen Zee people tend to spend more than they earn by using credit cards. I have never ever bought even a single cup of Highbucks coffee in my life, but most young people think nothing of having at least one cup of Highbucks coffee a day, which amazes me. Hope that helps.

    Thanks for a good TEDX talk.
    Btw what stock to buy now and hold?...you can talk in the hindsight abt AAPL/AMZN but finding it then and holding them ..
    See if you can give top 3 and we will buy now and hold for 30 yrs, Hopefully will be another AAPL/AMZN back in 90's when not many dare to buy and hold....i bought AMZN since 1997 when it was just picking as a hot stock made a bit on AMZN never hold long, how nice if I hold:)

    I am asking respectfully. Hoping to get other ppls views. So I heard what he had to say. My thoughts are ...So what? So what if you traversed all over the world seen everything, done everything. Does it make you better? Feel better? How different are you to the guy spending his whole life in a small shop in petaling street selling noodles. Both will end up in the grave. What's the difference? Your mind got to see all over the world and you "feel" you are better than the guy slogging in the office?
    What am I missing here....

    • @YusufHashim
      @YusufHashim  2 месяца назад +1

      Respectfully, I feel you are coming across like someone who might be missing something in this life. Yes we will all end up in the grave, but while you are still here, what do you really want in your finite life, and what are you doing to live the life that you want. If you love frying kuey teow the whole of your life, than live that life. I'm simply saying there's so many amazing things out there for you to se and to experience, that even TWO lifetimes will never be enough.

      Your point is interesting. It raises questions about the Purpose of Life.
      Religion and altruism offer different perspectives. Religion emphasizes faith and connecting with a higher power, while altruism focuses on helping others.
      Ultimately, the purpose of life is a personal journey... Find what brings you meaning and live a life aligned with your values...

    • @YusufHashim
      @YusufHashim  Месяц назад +1

      @@TuxOnTheBeach Here's a poem I wrote several weeks ago:
      𝙇𝙄𝙁𝙀, 𝙒𝙃𝙀𝙍𝙀 𝘼𝙍𝙀 𝙔𝙊𝙐 𝙏𝘼𝙆𝙄𝙉𝙂 𝙈𝙀
      Life, where are you taking me?
      To mountains high, or the deepest sea?
      Through sunlit fields, or shadowed glen,
      To face the trials, that test all men?
      With each new step, an unknown road,
      To bear the weight, of fate's abode.
      Through twists and turns, I'm led astray,
      To learn, to love, to hope, and to pray.
      Sometimes with gentle, guiding hand,
      Sometimes through storms, that fiercely stand.
      Yet, in my journey's ebb and flow,
      A strength within, begins to grow.
      Through trials faced, and battles won,
      I find my place, beneath the sun.
      Life, thou art an adventure grand,
      Leading me to understand.
      Yusuf Hashim

      I agree. Being close to the family gives more happiness to many. Being away from home and family often and long is not to my liking.
