I own a Leap v2 and have had it for almost 2 years and it's the best investment I ever made. I am sitting most of the day due to my work and I can't stress the difference it's made for my day to day life. When it comes to your bed/pillows, your shoes and a chair you're using every single day... You need to go with comfort and quality. You use these things Every Single Day so you might as well invest the proper amount of money to help yourself.

Does the leap has more cushion on the seat? If so, is it significant? I have the gesture but find it a bit too stiff for me. It’s only for a few weeks. Normally, will people get used to it?

Just tried both today and I would say Gesture is more of a right fit for me. Leap has excellent lumbar support but the seat is just too soft and the backseat is too reclining. Gesture with headrest on the other hand is like one of the best chair I've tried. Wish Gesture had the lumbar support like leap, that would make a perfect chair. I'm 178 cm and 78 kg (5'10, 172 lbs).
You've convinced me to buy a steelcase over a herman miller (mostly because I'll get what I need for a lower price). Thank you for the great video.

does the leap actually have more seath depth ? cuz when i look at 7:14 in the video, it looks very much like the gesture has more seat depth but online it says gesture = 18 1/4"" and leap = 18 3/4"
I sat in a Gesture and a Leap for only a few minutes, but the Gesture seemed more comfortable for me but I could have been tricking myself since I really liked the shape of the chair and the adjustable armrests. I was set on getting the chair, but now I am having second thoughts because of that price tag... Steelcase is having a 15% off summer sale, so this would probably be one of the better times to get one, but the moneyyyy...

Interesting that the Gesture does not have as much lower-back support because from the looks of it, it looks like it has more. I went with the Leap V2 for that reason b/c I like good lower back support.

You should also mention the feature that the leap chair back tilt is a two stages thing, it can stay at the upright or lean back pretty easily. The change between two stages is separated by a clear static friction. So you can switch between upright or lean back effortlessly. The back stays upright, even you put your back on it. And it tilt back when you push a bit, and stay there.
Also, another big difference is that when you tilt the back of Leap, the seat moves forward a bit, which makes it much more comfortable to lean back and relax.
On the other hand, the seat of leap is a bit warm (perhaps the same as gesture). And, I felt the lumbar support is a bit too much. My friend sitted on one of Leap, and got lower back pain after a few minutes (He had a back injured before). The seat of the Leap is also not my favor. The lack of the support of the front portion of the seat makes me feel the seat depth is just half of it. I felt like I am only sitting on my ass.

and it's natural for humans to sit on the ass. The gesture seat pan also gives some pressure to the thighs, but it's not the most comfortable (especially because you still feel your ass having much weight lol)

This makes such a massive difference to comfortability especially when you lean back.
Looking to get one used from a warehouse tmrw. I'm about 5'6 185lbs. Between the Steelcase think, leap v2, and gesture which is best? I have aerons at my work and i tend to sit at the very front of my chair and get annoyed by sitting in them.
Which is the best will definitely be a personal preference. I personally prefer the Leap v2 and that is the general consensus in our office as well. Good luck in your search! -GK
I want to use one of these chairs in a music studio to play guitar. It is important that the arms can drop very low to the ground so that my forearms and elbows do not hit the arms. Then I'll raise the arms to do office work. Would the either of these chairs be able to do this?

What color is the gesture?
Hi! I got the Gesture but I have felt a lot of neck tension when letting my arms rest on the armrest, why can this be caused? I was offered the option to change for a Leap v2 to see if it is a better fit for me. What do you suggest?
Hi! You can usually experience neck pain depending on how you have your armrests set. The best way to sit is to have your arms bent at a 90 degree angle and at your sides. If your arms are sitting too far out from your sides, and elbows sitting too low or too high, you will experience tension in your neck. Hope this helps! -TK

how do these chairs fare in hot weather? I finally will have a chance to try out both gesture and leap but in crazy humid weather, I'd probably have to go with either aeron or mirra 2. I wouldn't want my sweat to get into the foam daily.
Mesh chairs generally better for usage in non-air conditioned environments. Just make sure you're comfortable with mesh, some folks can't get used to the surface comfort.
@@oldtwinsna8347 I got the Leap in the end. There's no beating the comfort, sure it's sweaty and sticky sometimes but it's a lot more comfortable than Mirra 2 or even Aeron.
great reaview! leap v2 seems to have a higher back than Aeron, does that provide a better comfort? I have a old leap v1 the only thing I feel I dislike is the back is too low

I would say yes, but it seems it is not fully fixed, so there is 1-2 cm you can always tilt
My office had the Gesture and I liked it but I’m wondering if Leap is better for me. So hard to decide. I wish I could remember that chair better
We personally prefer the Leap in our office. We have a few Gestures, but they are rarely used outside the conference room. The Leap chairs are being used by many -GK

Not sure about bad for posture, but some just don’t like the seat pad shape. The Gesture abs Amia are better for those who like a flat seat design -GK

The Leap provided overall better support throughout the entire backrest. The Gesture's adjustable lumber isn't as noticeable as the Leap, which can be a good or bad thing, depending on your requirements. - GK

The seat depth adjusts from 15.75" to 18.75". I would measure your current setup to see what is most comfortable for you. We have users in the office that are 5'3" sitting comfortably in the Leap. - GK

Great review & terrific channel: this guy does an excellent job. That said, the comments provide useful info since everyone is different & notices different stuff.
I tried both chairs, plus the best from Hermann Miller. Initially bought the Aeron; took it back for the Leap 2.
Aeron: surprising fail
The Aeron Chair at Miller is a work of art: breath-takingly beautiful. You WANT to use it. And it screams "I have too much money!" so if you're looking for conspicuous consumption & drive a Ferrari, this is your chair. Great to sit in, for 10 min. Cool mesh too. Here's the rub: no headrest, OK back support but not for everyone, rigid ridge under the front of your legs that totally kills it & can't be fixed with adjustments (the rigid frame is required to hold the mesh). I have circulation probs w my legs so perhaps I'm more sensitive to this, but I had to return the chair. Embody by Miller wasn't better in any significant way. Wow: I was surprised. Miller makes much of the fact an Aeron lives in the Museum of Modern Art in NYC: good place for it; people can look at it & no one's allowed to sit on display items.
Steelcase Gesture & Leap 2: both great, Leap better
Gesture by Steelcase was really comfortable & I can see it being so for long periods, if the back support works for you. No ridge under your legs with either Steelcase chair. Tilt mechanism is great but the Leap 2 is better. Back support is good with both, but Leap 2 was better. Regardless, 6 months later with the Leap I do find I occasionally drag out the Obusforme I use on the couch (note though that the slot between seat & back makes this a poor combo - Obusforme keeps dropping), so I wish I could increase the lumbar curve more. Still, back support is better than either Miller chair for me. Note: lumbar support improved with the upgrade from older Leap to the newer Leap 2: you'll feel quite a difference. The engineers reworked the design to significant effect.
I liked Steelcase cushioning & fabric better than anyone else. The fabric will wear well, is cleanable. Auto manufacturers should pay attention. Not so cool as the mesh on the Aeron: loved Aeron's mesh, if not the rest of that chair. But the fabric Leap is good enough; miles ahead of everyone else. If you don't have air conditioning consider the Aeron or other mesh competitors. Be warned: the whole mesh thing is REALLY difficult to pull off, not an engineering no-brainer. Creating a support system & finding mesh that will give but not stretch over time, won't fray & wear over time, obviously difficult. I've used lots of mesh chairs that have sagged, worn & frayed. OTOH, you can buy 4 of Staple's alternative for the cost of one Aeron, but that does seem wasteful.
Tilt on Steelcase
Tilt on both is great but slightly better on the Leap 2. Headrest is definitely available for the Leap (certainly 3rd party supply; perhaps Steelcase too); not sure about the Gesture (suspect not). The sliding pan works well, lumbar support remains with tilt. Tilt adjusts for range/depth of motion as well as stiffness, so you can dial in resistance to the lean back, especially on the Leap 2. This makes a surprising ergonomic difference.
Arm Adjustment
I loved the Gesture's huge range of motion on the arms, but still liked the overall experience more on the slightly less expensive Leap 2. The Gesture's arms look fancier: an engineering marvel. But the overall effect in seating isn't much different from that of the Leap 2, which provides pretty much the same range of adjustment up/down & in/out without all the wiz-bang engineering. Leap 2 uses a more traditional post w sliding armrest, but does it better than anyone. In this case execution on the Leap 2 beats innovation on the Gesture.
Playing Guitar
Something no-one has addressed: both Gesture & Leap make sitting cross-legged (any variation) possible & comfortable. And I play guitar, usually on a stool so there are no arms in the way. Playing guitar in either chair is COMFORTABLE. The arms on both get out of the way sufficiently that I don't worry about damaging the guitar.

Agree on Leap vs Aeron. I had a Herman Miller Aeron at a previous company and thought it was "just okay", i..e, incredibly overrated and overpriced. In contrast, the Leap I was given at my next company was SOOOO much better than the HM that I actually bought a similar Leap for home office use with my own money.
Steelcase doesn't offer a 5 year warranty in a lot of countries anymore lol, that's speaks volumes about their lack of quality.
Comfort is extremely subjective, more people do find the Leap V2 and Gesture comfortable, but there are still plenty of folks that find mesh chairs more comfortable.
I have the leap v1 and it's been great. Would you recommend me upgrading to the v2? They feel quite similar other than the slightly higher back and the 4 way adjustable arms.
The V2 has slightly less padding on the seat than the V1. So that’s something to consider.
Leap 2 has better back support. Sliding arms mechanism looks more normal: post with sliding arm pads, vs the adjustable swing arms of the Gesture. The effect for the user, though, is pretty similar. I play a guitar & want to drop the arms out of the way as much as possible so I don't damage the guitar. The Leap 2 works for this; Gesture would too. Tilt options & support are better on the Leap 2. I liked the Gesture; love the Leap 2. Try both if you can; if you're ordering from a distance IMO most people would prefer the Leap 2.
Upgrade from the Leap 1? If you live in it all day, I would consider it. Back support is better. You might try dropping an ObusForme support over it, but the slot between seat & back support makes this a bit problematic: the ObusForme keeps dropping.
Unlike most office chairs you can probably sell the Leap on Kijiji or Craig's List etc. Steelcase & Miller chairs are so well made there's a secondary market, & brand recognition helps keep the 2nd-hand price higher. Most anything else is yard sale fodder, but you'll get something for you Leap to defray the upgrade cost. Detail it first so it's pristine.
V2 covers more of your back
Tried the leap for a week. Had lower back pain. Removed the lumbar, was usable. Swapped it for the Gesture a week later, lower back now aches and hard to sit in the Gesture for longer than 30 minutes. I can't win. Not sure what was worse the leap or the gesture.
What did you sit in before? If it was something that promoted bad posture you are working through bad habits and that can be a longer process -Greg
Steelcase chairs 5y warranty for Europe is absolute joke. Any suggestions for A/S tier chairs with 12y warranty for Europe? Harman Miller? Which one (with good headrest)? I hope such a chair exists :(
Can you add headrest later when you bought those chairs without it?
Not from Steelcase. You may find an aftermarket product available, but they do not connect the same way as an original Leap v2 headrest will -GK

You can add a headrest to the Leap
You'll know if you need a headrest - these are folks with constant neck and shoulder pain, perhaps resulting from other injuries. Else, the rest of the population it is more of a luxury than necessity.

I just bought a Gesture today. I have to wait a week for it to be delivered. I asked the saleswoman to check to make sure that the hardwood casters were what I was getting. She told me that the casters it comes with are fine for carpet and hardwood. By looking at the Steelcase website, I can see the options available. Is the saleswoman correct or does she just not know what she's talking about?
Hardwood or hard surface casters have a soft material wrapped around the wheel to help roll better on the surface and protect the floors. There is a difference -GK

i hear the leap is better for taller people, around 6 6" .. is this correct?
The Leap feels like it has more pronounced lumbar support. It's obvious the moment you sit in the chair. I'm not 6"6 so I can't say whether either is uncomfortable when you get to that size. I'm just over 6"1 and 220LB. My inseam is 33 inches so my core is actually quite big. I love both these chairs and most people would be delighted with either. My brother is 6"3 and around 250lb and he thinks both are great too.

@@JohnSmith-bn7bl John Smith it is. If you want or need a headrest then I'd get the Gesture with headrest model. Otherwise I'd get the Leap v2. I acquired one from a company that went bust. They'd bought it new about 1.5 years ago and so it was lightly used. It was supposed to be a home office chair as I'd moved a HM Embody home from the office for remote work. I've moved the Embody back to the office and I'm still working from home. I rate the Leap very highly. It feels like it could get warm but apart from that it's brilliantly comfortable. The lumbar support might take some getting used to if you haven't been sitting on an ergonomic chair but I doubt anyone regrets buying either Steelcase product. They're big chairs BTW. Bigger than an Aeron.
@@sdemosi dont really need the headrest. ive just ordered from a local distributor, a leap v2. the rep. did say id have more room on the leap than the gesture. no doubt the gesture looks better ... but im in this for comfort.

That can be tough to diagnose without sitting in each of the chairs. If you're looking for something with neck support, the Leap and Gesture chairs have an optional headrest. This will provide some additional support for your neck. - GK
You don't need a headrest(unless medically indicated). I bought a Steelcase Leap V2 chair WITHOUT a headrest. My neck and my back pain is gone. The head will naturally follow the rest of the spine. Headrests are only truly supportive when you are working in a reclined position. While they may be medically indicated for those with specific diagnoses, they are not essential features for most individuals’ daily task chair. It is important that you are sitting in an ergonomic chair, and that you know how to properly use the features on your chair.

Leap V2 is better for long term sitting
I had a chance to try both of these chairs. Leap V2 had more dip on the seat which felt more natural to my butt, but Gesture was more comfortable, Interesting~. And My back loved gesture backrest. I thought it was perfect so I can't complain about the lumbar support. My pick is Gesture over Leap V2, but I may still go with X2 from X chair.
did you tried the gesture with or without the additional adjustable lumbar support?
@@Armin2208 Yes, I prefer the adjustable lumbar support. Once you set it to you liking, you will not use it again, but you need it :)
May I ask what is your height? I tend to think Gesture is more comfortable for taller people than the Leap, and vice versa.

Should i get leather? The fabric seems like it would snag in a year.
leather will be hotter, and is imo not as comfortable as fabric. Fabric is better most of the time for such chairs imo.
No, fabric doe snot snag in a year. Bought mine 2nd hand few years ago, still not snag. Leather is more expensive and hotter, probably less comfortable. Go for Fabric is my suggestion.

I purchased both. In my opinion, the Gesture is too firm a chair and doesn't quite "hug" your body quite the same as the Leap. The seat especially is a bit more firm than the Leap. Overall the Leap is more comfortable & softly padded, but for me the design of the seat pan with the sort of arc from the back of the seat, to the middle which is higher, to the front, puts after long periods of time a bit of a push on the front section underneath your thighs and doesn't help with blood flow. It left me with a bit of a restless leg feeling after a couple hours. If the seat on the Leap was redesigned to be a bit flatter, or have a seat pan angle adjustment for a small amount of positive tilt, it'd be way more comfortable for a wide range of users. The recline is a bit odd on this chair. Not a fan.
The Gesture, after a couple hours left me feeling like I might as well be sitting on a wooden chair. No difference in ergonomics or comfort because of the stiffness and/or lack of padding in general. Yes the armrests swivel around and are a cool design; I think the Leaps armrests are a bit softer though. For me, I tend to adjust them and leave them so the "cool factor" wears thin once you sit down to do some actual work. The Gesture could really just use a bit more of a padded back and a good amount more padding on the seat (perhaps a dual-foam setup with a thinner softer foam on top of the heavier dense foam) and it'd be a very good chair in my opinion. Looks great I must say, and the range of adjustments are nice, and the seat pan angle is a bit more open than the Leap so it's better for circulation. The Gesture does give you room to achieve different sitting positions throughout the day, while the Leap "locks you in" to more of a single seating position. The recline on the Gesture feels a bit more natural than the Leap.
IMO neither of these chairs have a really nice recline, or are as good as the Herman Miller chairs. Trying the Embody next, and I have a feeling despite what BTOD says, it will score overall higher in comfort especially in the seat with the flexible seat design.
Thank you for the feedback. The biggest issue with hitting 100% of the time for comfort scores is the fact each individual is different. When we score the chairs it's based on averages across a group of users that vary is size, age and gender. While we feel the Leap v2 is best for most people, it still is most and not all. I'm 5'5" 140 lbs and have had the HM Embody, HM aeron Size A and B, and Leap. For me, the HM Aeron size A won out. IMO Aeron is much better than the Embody as it is specifically sized (comes in 3 sizes for a tailored fit) and has a lot more adjustability. The Embody is more of a "one size fits all."
Thank you for your comment, I'm glad to finally find someone that's had the same experience as me. I have a Steelcase Think, and it has a similar seat cushion with a slightly mounded shape that puts pressure on my thighs. I'm likely going to return it, and was considering a used Gesture. Did you find the same problem with the shape of the Gesture's seat, or was the problem that it was simply too firm? I really want to like this chair, but maybe Steelcase just isn't the brand for me.
@@F15HB41T it's hard to say why, but the Steelcase gesture seat pan also gives some pressure to the thighs. the seat pan in the gesture is also the number 1 drawback for me. the rest feels awesome.

Actually i just tested the Gesture today and i really must say i never had a worse seating experience... I dont know exactly what it is but i wasnt just feeling it.
The seat cushion was way too soft imo, i had a feeling i was sitting on the plastic. The armrests are nice and fun but since they are THAT movable its almost impossible to get them on the same height which would be bad for posture. On the backrest i felt almost no lumbar support and overall i instantly felt uncomfortable in this chair.
I really dont know how to think about it now because its such an expensive chair and i expected much more.

These chairs are 100% not worth buying brand new anymore, because Steelcase no longer covers the full chair for 12 years. I genuinely can't believe Steelcase decided to cheap out with the warranty, despite maintaining that high price tag. Buying a refurbished one is probably the way to go atm.

For me and most others looking to buy a brand new chair, Herman Miller is the clear choice, providing I like mesh chairs. I've always wanted the Embody, but they only sell the really expensive gaming version in the UK.

I own a $400+ gaming chair and it can't be more uncomfortable. My back cries every day. If you're someone who spends most of your day working at a desk and want to sit comfortably with proper posture then it might be worth it to invest in a proper chair. Plus, these top chair companies provide more than a decade of warranty.
I used to think the same, until I ordered Leap. I wish I had bought it sooner.
It's funny how Steelcase's warranty for their chairs in the UK is equivalent to what most high end gaming chair brands offer, only 5 years. 🤦
