Your videos helped me discover the world of chairs and I’m very great full for that! My wife and I bought a Leap V2 and a series 1 chair and there is a drastic difference in the way we feel after 8 hours of sitting vs the chairs we used to have. My work usually the Amazon basics chairs which we all know are the most comfortable chairs with the best overall back support (sarcasm).
After trying Gesture I realized how important arm support is. Proper arm/elbow support encourages better posture with the rest of your body. I realized I was slouching on my current chair while using phone etc because my crappy chair had no arm support where I wanted and I was using the back to rest my arms. Leap seat is thicker than gesture, but slightly firmer (not uncomfortable) and flatter seat of gesture actually made me sit more upright. Great design.
I'll be picking one up.
Gesture or Leap?
your video has the information which I want to know about steelcase chairs,now I have no regret on my aeron purchase. I have L4,L5 disc tear and thought back support helps but it is the mesh seat, for my comfort
I sit in a Leap 2 at the office 8 to 10 hours a day. Bought a Gesture about a month ago for my home office after watching many reviews on this channel and trying all the models mentioned here at a local showroom. I have to say that I couldn't be happier with my choice. The Gesture fits me much better than the Leap and I find myself with less stiffness/discomfort after a long day. The adjustable arms are a really key feature on the Gesture as they let me position a number of ways around the desk. I also find the lumbar on the Gesture more to my liking. The lesson is that it's important to listen to the reasons why reviewers like and don't like a chair to see how that aligns with your needs. Probably more important than the showroom visit since you can't spend all that much time there. Thanks BTODtv Team!

I'm thinking about the leap, but I don't like lumbar support. Does the Gesture have firmer or stiffer lumbar support than the Leap v2?
@@nicbongo to be honest, neither has a ton of lumbar support. I'd note that for me, that is less of an issue with the Gesture because of the way it supports my upper back/shoulders. The contoured back of the Leap doesn't fit me quite as well (a bit too narrow) and i feel fatigue more quickly than in the Gesture. Still very happy with the purchase. Would also note that I recently found an unused Gesture at the office and claimed it as my own so now it's sitting bliss at home and office.

Appreciate the feedback. I've had chairs with pronounced lumbar support in the past and I think it actually injured me, so very hesitant to spend lots of money with a similar risk.

Everyone please remember this is in fact an opinion piece. He does his research and showing you the features but this is all on you to figure out which one works for you. If you have a retailer near you, please just go in and test them out.
I have had my gesture for about a year now and I'm super happy with it. I will say I agree with the lumbar support, more would be great.

for the series 1 is the seat suppose to shift a tiny bit? I cant figure out if it's that way so it switched between depths easier?
What would you recommend for someone that likes the HM Sayl but would like something with a taller backrest? I used the Sayl for 2 years but it's not tall enough for me to lean back(the ends stick into my back a bit, not horrible but not pleasant either). Budget is max 1k for something with fully adjustable armrests. I don't care about a headrest, nice to have if it's good, if it's bad I'd rather not have it.
I had a leap v2 for a couple of months but returned it because they had the issues with the crooked backs, and after 2 chairs they couldn't give me a good one (factory in France). I liked the Leap but it didn't feel like it was made very well. Had all sorts of squeaks and the lumbar adjustment was not gliding properly.
The cheaper Sayl is a better built chair in my experience, so I guess I'm biased towards HM but I'm willing to give Steelcase another shot.
Are there any other chairs you've tested with breathable backs and relatively flat headrests like the Steelcase Series 2? I'm 5'0" and I really want a chair with a mesh back and a headrest that fits.

Question, I'm in the market for a new chair, but looking for a specific feature, reclinable/foldable armrests, I use it in my home studio and when you play instruments like guitars or bass, the armrests are always in the way. I currently have a Zody, really nice chair, but the armrests makes me sit at the edge of the chair while playing. Any recommendation? I'd like to keep it not super expensive if possible! The Gestures arms go down super low. Otherwise, you might need to look at something with flip away arms. The BTOD Akir has this option or the All33 chair -GK

Hi, Do you know which is the best Steelcase chair with head rest? THINK or other model ?
Hi. I saw on your video that your arm rest are pretty much aligned with your desk (same height). So is it ok that your chair doesn’t roll under your desk? I always assumed your chair should have to roll under your desk when you’re away from your computer.
The Steelcase Think is an INSANELY good chair, and you can get used ones under 200 dollars (they are mass produced for offices so they are always available on places like facebook market). I have sat in office chairs for 10+ years and I use a Steelcase Think at home. I definitely recommend you get the one with the lumbar pad if you can. I also recommend the leather upholstered seat over the fabric ones (it just lasts longer and is easier to clean).
I've used Herman Miller chairs and various other ergonomic chairs, but for your buck I recommend a used Steelcase Think to almost everyone (especially those on a budget). Seriously, I worked in an office that used only these with hundreds of other people and I NEVER heard anyone complain about the chairs being uncomfortable, even though many of them had been around and serviced for several years.
I'm trying to get rid of my Think, the mesh with the ribbed back is not comfortable at all. Otherwise a great chair. Just wish I had the solid fabric or leather version.
@@xPorkchops007x I've seriously never heard anyone complain about the Think, but if for whatever reason the mesh with the ribbed back bothers you, there is the Amia which looks very similar, although I've never sat in one.
@@FastJohnnyNardGard I tried the Think in a showroom and it felt like it wasn't made for adults. I'm no giant at 1.8m and ~80kg. In that range I like the HM Sayl more(and bought one). About the same height in the back but feels like a much larger chair and holds your back much better. The seat is also more comfortable imo.
@@cristi724 The Think might not be for absolutely everyone. I would always suggest people sit in a variety of different chairs. My suggestion is mostly for people who don't want to or can't afford to spend a lot for a chair. You see quite a few sayls on the used market as well. Great looking chair but a lot of them seem to have a problem where the rubberized material on the armrests starts to chip or flake off over long term use.
@@FastJohnnyNardGard Have the Sayl for 2 years now, the armrests are holding fine so far. However, for used I recommend caution with the plastic base if there's no warranty. I had mine replaced after 1 year since the cylinder started touching the floor. I don't think the new base will last long either.
There's a metal base option now, I strongly recommend that one if possible.
Agree that the Leap's padding is lacking. One other thing to note is that it is a very narrow chair. I happen to fit it, but if you have any kind of wide lower body, I imagine the cushion will be much too narrow.
I’m looking to replace my secret lab titan exo 2022 because the padding is so stiff and hurts my tailbone and the shape pushes my shoulders forward. I’m thinking the leapv2 or the amia would do it for me but I’ll have to look for a deal
why is no one showing or talking about the Steelcase Reply Air? My sister got one from her work for working from home and and tried it and it feels like heaven for me. Wish it had a bigger backrest or a headrest but man the seat is really thick and comfy and the back even without the lumbar in it was like it was made for me and I just saw the chair only cost around 500? Only thing that holds me back is the no headrest, sometimes I want something to lean back on with my head when gaming (but also, the most headrest for some reason push forward into your head/neck and are not just straight like for example on the steelcase please just a straight cushioned plate where I can kick back all way to give my neck some rest here and there but.. well)
Steel case 'Think" is really comfortable. Since it has a floating seat. So there is no pressure from the below to the tail bone. Its like the Aeron chair. Our office got rid of all old chairs and got this chair. If you have back issues, get this model. Get the mesh back. Not the one with the cloth. The mesh also reduces the pain on the upper back. the fully padded version add some pressure back and does not feel good. Also the seat cushion does not press back on the leg thus reducing any push back pressure
After sitting in the leap v2, the think feels like a very high end office depot chair.

Hello, I bought this chair 'Steelcase Personality Ergonomic Task Chair' after using it for over a month find that it is not a good one, bcz whenever i am sitting for long hours it is pulling down wards and also getting back pain.

Just got a used Criterion for 30 bucks! My back is still getting use to it though my right side is sore but thats from being in bucket seat gaming chairs for years im guessing idk if i dont like it ill just resell it for more than what i bought it for lol
How would a leap v1 compare to an amia? Both refurbished
For a 5ft tall petite female, seat depth and minimum seat height are important; are the Series 1 and Think appropriate? Regarding seat comfort, she prefers a more padded seat; does that change things?

Just received Leap today, it's a very very comfortable chair! Compare to Humanscale World Chair (my preivous chair, used almost 5 years), Most noticable areas for me, are:
1. Leap's lumbar support is significantly better.
2. Leap's seat flexibility is better, which won't make my leg numb.
3. Humanscale's seat material is softer, and the back material won't heat up quickly.
if the amia would have tilt lock it would be perfect, anyone know if you can mod this?
The series 2 pad “feels like a rock”… have you ever felt a rock before sir lol? Which material was that anyway, Era? Would the Billiard material be any better you think?

It is quite a bit different back experience. Still a nice option from Steelcase, but I prefer the fabric back for better support and comfort -GK
I’ve spent some years using a Steelcase Leap V2 and Herman Miller Aeron. The Leap V2 is an excellent chair and I like being able to pick colors, but the Aeron is on another level for build quality, styling , and comfort (if you’re not a leg-crosser)
I totally agree, Christopher. I simply can't see any sexy design elements on any steelcase chairs. they look so dull.
Chairs are so individual. It is why office chair reviews are unintentionally disingenuous since each person will react to a chair differently. To me the Aeron is insanely uncomfortable. And I have tried it many times. Nothing about it works for me. But lots agree with you and love it. Have to try chairs to find one that works for you

I'd love to see a review of the Steelcase Karman.
I currently have the Gesture and love it. However, the seat is a bit hard and I end up a bit sore after sitting 10+ hours per day. One thing that I love about the Gesture is the adjustable seat depth, I sit cross-legged most of the time, so I like to be able to extend the seat out as far as it goes. I'm interested in either the Amia or Leap, because they seem to have softer seats, but do they have the seat depth adjustment feature?
Yes leap has seat depth adjustment. It's not fine adjustment like your gesture, there are like 4-5 positions it locks into. Also I prefer the lumbar support of the leap v2 over the gesture
Ever had a chance to try out the Steelcase Please? I found that one to to be the single most ergonomical chair I have ever had the chance to sit in. No idea why it is only sold in Europe, Africa and the Middle East...

Would a seat pad by the brand “purple” ruin the ergonomics of the Amia. I figure I’ll just move the lumbar support up a few inches. I love me some soft seats. I’ve never been a headrest guy either. I’ll Just jump in my bed to relax. Aeron chairs are a scam. Feels good for 30 minutes then the problems start.

Have any of you on BTOD ever tested any chairs from RH like the RH Logic, it's owned by Flokk who aslo owns HÅG ( I think ). Just curios to get your thoughts, don't think it's a very known brand but the RH Logic seems very adjustable.
It's an interesting brand for sure. I did a bit of snooping for them. Doesn't look like they have a ton of distribution in the USA and definitely not readily available to the everyday consumer -GK

They need to make more of the armrests flip backwards if needed... For the price of these it's crazy that that's such a forgotten feature.

Looks like the Series 2 doesn't have the regular back anymore. Their website only has 2 open air back styles.
Just ordered the Amia! I've been using the Herman Miller Sayl and recently the Autonomous ergo 2 but both have been uncomfortable to sit in.
How was the Amia? Personally I m out of options really I ve tried basically most of these high end chairs. Last 1s gonna be Amia and Fern for me

I've owned an Amia and it's slightly too deep for me, causing back pain from lack of support. Would the Series 2 be appropriate? They claim the seat depth is an inch shorter, can you confirm?

After watching this and you guys wanting a thicker pad with the leap, I bought a used leap v2 local and then bought replacement pads and fabric from crandall. Hopefully its the lamia you guys dreamed of?
Using the pad Crandall created would not be my version of the Lamia I had dreamed of. If you look at the shape and softness of the Crandall cushion, it is significantly different than the Leap or Amia pad. They changed the density and the shape of the pad, with defined edges that will restrict blood flow versus promote it. I prefer the Amia seat pad because they still use a proper waterfall front design with a medium/firm density. The improvement for me is because of the increased space for the tailbone region in the Amia seat frame design versus the Leap -GK

I sat in a Please in a showroom. Extremely comfortable (much more than the Gesture, which I really wanted to love but just couldn't - the seat pan just doesn't work for me), but you should do some research on the back height adjustment breaking. There seem to be several reports on them breaking after 3 to 5 years, which is why I decided against it.
@@ajdaniels I've seen some reports on it but it has alledgedly been fixed in a recent update.
Weird question maybe, but would it be possible to make a Lamia Plus using an Amia seat and Leap Plus chassis? Would it retain the 500 lbs weight limit? (Assuming yes if it fits considering the seat pad isn't structural)
Looking at buying an Amia but I'm kind of close to that 400 limit and I just want to consider my options for future proofing lol
Why wouldn't you just buy a Leap Plus? The only issue I heard about the leap seat is the lack of padding at the tailbone, but I'm not sure that'd be an issue for you. I hope that didn't come off as rude, but do you see what I'm saying?

I just bought a steelcase gesture with headrest. Everything on the chair felt good except the seat cushion. Was way to thin and firm, and felt like I was always sliding off. I am 6'3 175 lbs. Would you recommend the amia for someone as tall as me? I was also considering the Series 2 air, but the seat cushion looks thin.

@@sittkukk8278 gesture with headrest, i regret it. But Ive spent too many years looking, buying, and returning chairs. At a certain point I gave up. I thought fern would work but nooooo, its awful.
@@Gavinbelson Yea same here. I ve looked at so many chairs for me Logitech embody will be my last high end chair and thats the stop for me. Tired of this nonsense. Will just go back to regular chairs at this point cuz these high end cushions are a joke :(

@@Gavinbelson That's unfortunate. Also to add, I had the Amia for a couple of days. The back was terrible imo compared to the gesture and the recline as well. The seat tbh wasn't as amazing people claim it to be. I preferred Gestures, but problem with Gesture is after an hour the pain kicks in and becomes unbearable to sit in. Like Gesture is softer but like you start to sink in the chair overtime creating pressure points. Steelcase series 2 I heard the seat is hard as a rock. Sorry for the long comment I just wanted to share my knowledge.
Can't wait for the Karman and your views on it... Really hoping it'll be the marriage between the Aeron and the Leap that I seriously want.

The Aeron has a sweet rocking motion. Only issue is that it doesn't come with a headrest -GK

@@morkoshenen I tried the Gesture once and what I noticed is that there is a massive swamp effect. In a minute I began to sweat. But it seems it doesn't do that to everybody.
But as it did that to me, I chose another chair (the Steelcase Please). But I miss the armrests of the Gesture which are awesome.
That Gesture looks EXACTLY like mine, which is the Cogent:Connect fabric in Graphite.

Thanks for these reviews, I watched a lot and was about to purchase a Leap or Gesture recently and went to a showroom to check them out. I then discovered that Steelcase only offer a 5 year warranty in the EU which put me off entirely. Do you have any idea whether Steelcase plan to change this in future, or whether I should just opt for a different manufacturer?
They already recently changed for 5 years, why you think they'll go back?
Probably nothing major. It might just be a regulation issue or some kind of cost factor issue in executing a 5+ years warranty in the EU (maybe materials, supplies, or labour?). Gotta think about all the chairs they've put out - as long as they can all be expected to be of the same quality, there's no reason to fear that it won't last for the same 12 years, baring some kind of misuse of the product of course.

Try your best to narrow it down before ordering. That will cut down on time wasted for you and money wasted on shipping for Steelcase -GK
I'll just say if your a big fella and you want a comfortable seat, do not get any of these chairs. I got the most recommended which was the Amia and it's not comfortable after awhile. The seat cushion is pretty thin so you might as well be sitting on- well... a steel case. On the flip side, maybe it being uncomfortable after awhile is a good thing. Getting up and taking a break. But it definitely wasn't worth the money. I have no way of taking it back to get a refund, so I might sell it and get something with more cush.
How do you feel between the Series 2 and the Amia if I have never used a "proper" office chair before? I'm around 5'10" or 5'11" and 220 lbs. Thanks!

I have the Think V2 with a padded back. DO NOT get the knit version. The fully upholstered version is immensely comfortable and I have nothing bad to say about it. Lumbar support works great and the seat pad is among my favorites.

I don't get why you miss the Please II in your reviews. I am 192 cm (6`2") high and tried Guesture/Leap and they are absoulutely uncomfortable for me. Please II on the other hand has all the bells and whistles for tall people. It has hight adjustable back, which is crtitical for correct lumbar support position
The Please isn’t available in the United States that’s probably why. I doubt there’s a real market for importing it either.

Never go with a cheap Ikea chair or definitely not a racing gaming chair if you work from home or in any circumstance. This can affect your work performance as you will want to leave your desk because of getting painful or tired legs. Go with a min 200 euro office chair or a steelcase secondhand.

Why do all the armrests have to be the thin hard style, plastic or otherwise? Where are the cushy armrests? Adjustability is great, but if my elbows hurt after hours of gaming, what's the point. My current chair has the option for the cushy armrests and they are so much nicer than the usual fair. Thanks for the reviews.
Soft, plastic feeling is better, than the hard thick ones. those make ur elbows numb. try buying padded armrests, they helped me with shitty thick/stiff armrests. When the armrest moves around is adjustable, it means its usually better.
Whether or not Steelcase will actually provide a build-your-own-chair option to customers will determine if Steelcase will become a leader in the field or slowly disappear like so many other office chair manufacturers.

The Leap sounds great buy it is truly the dumpiest-looking chair. As someone who has my workspace in the living room I’m hoping to find a chair with some aesthetic value. Right now I have an Amia I took home from the office three years ago. Totally comfortable. Not super sexy. Thinking of trying a Think with upholstered back. Also interested in Haworth Fern.
I would opt for the Fern if those were my two choices -GK

I went to a dealer to try out a bunch of different chairs and the Leap V2 was by faaaaar my favorite. Fern back was ok but I disliked the seat. I wanted to love the Gesture but I had the same experience as Greg feeling like I was falling forward in the seat somehow. I don't know I might still consider the Gesture. It wasn't bad by any means. But the Leap was ... leaps and bounds above the rest for me 😛 But dang it is not a sexy chair!

i’m sure those are good chairs and i get that there’s a lot of r&d behind it, but the fact that there’s so many flaws in 500-600 chairs and an headrest is 200 more tells me these things are crazy overpriced

Steel case suck my employer buys them by the 100's at a time and all of them eventually start squaking the spring inside is a poor design. You have to take the seat off by using a long screw driver to release the stop slides off. Then you have to spray silicon spray into the holes where the lift spring is after a few days it stops squeaking. 6-12 months later it starts up again I figured this out on my own because my employer outsources the chair repair it takes several weeks to get someone out to fix it I didn't want to wait.

seems like every video i watch from these guys talks me out of another chair. all the ones that are "just okay" are 2k+ and everything else has a slew of issues and is uncomfortable. guess ill just remain in pain forever
The solution is simple: Steelcase needs to create a build-your-own-chair option where you can get all your favorite features into one chair.

I'm sitting on the v1 and it's the worse chair I've ever bought. I've had $40 chairs better than this. the cushion is nonexistent after a couple days and thinking about shelling another couple hundred just so i don't have to suffer anymore.

i got a leap plus for 100 dollars
I got my first leap v2 for $50 and I got 2 more for $25 each. Just gotta find people on craigslist that have no clue what they have. Just a fyi if you got yours second hand, it might be an older model which has a side pinned gas cylinder. If you ever need to replace it it's gotta have the pin facing toward the seat height adjustment lever.
Leap is junk. It's squeaky even though they replaced the mechanism.
Maybe they just need breaking in or maybe the old ones are better made. The new ones my office bought squeak, but the one I have at home that's 12 years old is buttery smooth.
