Glad I could help! If you ever have specific questions you can comment on one of my videos or DM me on instagram. If I don't know the answer off the top of my head I have a huge physical and digital library to research and find answers for folks.

Spectacular, informative video. Answered many of my questions regarding pyramiding. I am a member of multiple tortoise pages and forums...causes of pyramiding are often hotly debated. Hopefully I can share your video with them for educational purposes. Love the shirt!

Glad it was helpful! The role of humidity vs protein vs overall nutrition in pyramiding has been pretty well explored scientifically since the early 2000s. Unfortunately, outdated ideas still persist because 1) simple answers are favored by most people, and 2) primacy, the first thing we learn usually takes root and it is hard to change beliefs even with actual data.

HI. This video is amazing! We learn a lot about tortoise shell. I been looking everywhere for any scoot shells like the one in your video for my kid school project, but i haven't found any yet.

I have searched for a good explanation of tortoise shell anatomy before and failed. Your explanation is clear, precise and totally logical. Enjoyed it a lot and learnt from it. Will you do one on internal anatomy?

3 good ones to look for are, "Essentials of Tortoise Medicine & Surgery" and "Healthcare and Rehabilitation of Turtles & tortoises" a very large general reptile medical text book "Reptile Medicine & Surgery, 2nd Edition."

What kind of studies, books, ect. Did you use to gather all the knowledge behind this? :-)

Nicolai, thanks for watching and thanks for the question. It would be so much easier if I could just take a photo of my book collection. Aside from the experience I have from physically examining tortoises post-mortem, 3 books stand out that discuss shell anatomy in detail. Two are specifically on tortoise surgery and rehabilitation, "Essentials of Tortoise Medicine & Surgery" and "Healthcare and Rehabilitation of Turtles & tortoises" and the third is a very large general reptile medical text book "Reptile Medicine & Surgery, 2nd Edition." A good source for how Vit D is synthesized is any work done by Dr. Frances Baines. In various works she explains it both in science-rich detail and for the average keeper to understand.
