I'm Japanese/Irish, which is why my name is down as Celtic Samurai. So this is like the ultimate music for me...
I'm Korean, Welsh, Scottish, English and truly appreciate the mixing of Celtic and Asian culture, too.
Well done, well done!! I'm sorry it took so long for me to find this, but now I am so happy that I did. Wonderful work.
what id really love to see is an ensemble of 2 shamisen, a kokyu and a shakuhachi playing an irish song. That would cover a typical celtic setup, 1 shamisen being like a banjo/mando, the other being like guitar, kokyu-fiddle and shakuhachi-tin whistle, that would be pretty cool.
This works very well, it has the playfulness of Irish folk but the solmnness of the shamisen.
Why is this combination the best thing ever? Its so good!
that sounds so freaking cool. The sound of the shamisen as a melodic element really sounds real familiar to Irish music because it sounds a lot like a banjo tone wise.
I like Irish traditional music, and I like the shamisen... It´s the perfect mix!
well done! me being Irish i had to give you guys tons of respect, traditional Irish music is hard to play as is but to pull it off on the Shamisen earns all the respect from me, the whole piece sounded so natural and true to traditional Irish sound. love it love it love it
Actually... I was looking for bagpipes playing jonkara bushi
I found bagpipes playing the blues a few years ago.
The sounds from the end of each sentence is perfect, I'm love it
@edelahaye Hi I am one of the Shamisen players in this video. Thanks for commenting and my sincere appologies for our mistake on the accents. as you can see we play a Japanese instrument. none of us are well versed in Irish music. But all three of us just love the sound and feeling of it so much that we had to try it out ! We appreciate the advice because without it we would never know what we are doing wrong.
Thanks again for taking the time to comment.
Cool
True Celtic Fusion! 🍀🇮🇪🇯🇵
we support you. i respect your tradition. cheers for ireland.
FOUND IT! Swallow Tail Polka or Swallowtail Jig!!
irish and japanese have to be my 2 favorite cultures in the world. ( so is nordic but they had a lot of influence on celtic music) to see them blended in such a way kinda gives me chills every time i listen to this song. awsome stuff
When Musashi pulls out a shillelagh instead of an oar
This s so cool! I'm really falling in love with this instrument. Hearing it play beautiful traditional Irish music really made my day, thanks for the great video.
@MML2BeachedWhale Hi I am one of the Shamisen players in this video and I have to tell you I am sorry to say that none of us actually know the names of the tunes either. there are two distinct tunes and we learned them by ear and without reference. We just know they are from Ireland.
Love it! Couldn't decide whether to add to my Celtic Playlist or Japanese!
this is brilliant. I love the sound of the sanshin, and I think it works really well fused with different genres.
Fantastic! I had never seen an Irish jig played on Shamisen before. Great job. :)
such great shamisen playing!
whoa! that was simply amazing!!! that made my whole day haha! im picking up my guitar now and gunna pretend I can play that haha j/k..amazing...
Great stuff! I've been trying to locate Monster of Shamisen version of The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly to show to my kids but it doesn't seem to be turning up here on RUclips, I wonder if you have a link?
Years ago, I used to often see a Tsugarur shamisen player busking in Kawasaki Station (mid-late 1990s), this really brings back memories, thank you! :)
this is very innovative! Kudos, to all of you it sounded great
would be awesome if anyone could name the song(s) they are playing :) amazingly done :)
obviously favorited
Once Again, MAGNIFICENT!!!
Awsum! haha.. i wish theyd make a banjo/shamisen hybrid. thatd be so cool.
Great!
Omfg XD I wasn't expecting to find this on youtube, strange, but very good !!!
amazing, thankyou...
Brilliant stuff lads (and lady) excellent
lol these are all dudes my friend
It's called the bachi...it's usually made of wood or the same material a common plectrum for guitar is made of.
@Irishlad23ni I can't think of a single person whom doesn't like the irish or especially the music. I love to dance to irish music. Although the people a floor below us may have some animosity for this reason.
Well keep it up, as an Irish person . This was really enjoyable. Like a trad session. Very Good
素晴らしい
Fabulous, I'm hooked. :D
wow! love it
I'm surprised this didn't come up in Leaving Cert Music under "fusion" ... they're always looking for crazy blends of Irish and other cultures' music
that's was awesome!!!!
i am the 2nd generation Irish descendant.
I have a question about the Shamisen.
what"s is the default keys for these three strings.
cheers
awesome :)
Awesome! :D
Hey, I've watched a few shamisen vids now, I'm really loving it...
Just wondering though, what are you using to play with? It really looks like a paint stripper lol? Is it metal?
dude that's awesome! I wish i knew how to play that instrument. :D
I like the Japanese fire extinguisher at the end. Why is it there? Next to a toilet roll? Mysteries are awesome.
Yeaaaaaahh - HAI...! Brill'..
A fire extinguisher and a roll of toilet paper? Just in case the licks get too fast and torch the place, and the toilet paper probably for fans that just can't control themselves. You guys shred!
I'm not sure about the first tune (I know I've heard and possibly played it before), but the second one is After the Battle of Aughrim,
You're awesome :)))
What tuning / agari was this in? Does anyone have it written down? Would love to try it but I am struggling to play it by ear :/
Woooah, any idea on the name of the first tune?!
oh yes, thats great :D
@HerrMead If you mean the notes of the open strings, the Shamisen is unique in that there really is no default key .The 3 strings are adjusted during a concert many times. When the key of a song changes the Shamisen player adjusts in a few seconds to the new key. However in the recent past many players have chosen the key of C as a standard. This is just a way for everyone to be able to have a common key but the fast switching of the tuningpegs is still common when playing in ensemble etc.
@Irishlad23ni Ya, They live right next door to you and like drinking tea.
Anyone seen this "lost" vid: band of guys wearing wetsuits, playing out in the rain in a park in Japan...lyrics were half English, half Japanese, all funny.
noneofyourbusiness47 5 years too late, Gaijin Invasion, beautiful Tokyo is my guess
@Uuuuurk Celtic music actually did borrow a lot from many other European forms of music, including nordic music, especially considering that the vikings did own ireland for some time, look it up.
@kitadefan007 depends on how broken. If you really want to look into a cheap way to obtain a shamisen look up Kyle Abbott. His channel here on youtube is fiddlefella. He has written a book called Shamisen of Japan etc. look him up and his contact info. etc.
What songs are these? They sound familiar.
What's the name of the song, does anyone know? I'm also curious about the name of the 'traditional bulgarian' song they also have.
Do the Brits like your culture yet? I know I like it, I long to see the homeland of my ancestors. :D
What are the names of the songs they play?
It is sad that people have to have mental breakdowns. I saw a saying I liked hear a while back. I think this saying is great because it applies to everyone.
"All wars are civil wars, because all men are brothers." ~François Fénelon
@kitadefan007 I have some bad news for you. Shamisens don`t exactly fall in the cheap catagory of music instruments. With some effort you may find someone selling their Shami USED for a low price but even then the cheapest would probably be a little more than $250. new beginer Shamisens usually start at about $1000-$1500. And the pro models can be as much as $30,000.00. But either way goodluck and my advice would be look for people selling used gear etc.
@mortum000 nordic music i mean
@Uuuuurk oh lol, yeah, a viking is a viking
日本万歳!!!🇯🇵 Éire go Brágh!!! 🇮🇪
The two people who disliked this are probably Justin Bieber and his mom... or stupid. They're more or less the same thing.
haha.
das ist einfach irre! :)
It sounds like Irish Trad played in rubber bands. Not Good
HAZA KAFIR!
clever but Shamisen not suited to this music.
Not very irish. You should have played this in 12th notes.
Living in Ireland and being from Ireland are two different things. Somone from Ireland has more value in their opinion whereas the opinion of someone just "living" in Ireland is nothing but Crap! HA HA. Take that, fool!
